Tic-Toc, the gentle sounds of the ancient clock in Ellie’s room filled the thick air. a gift from Joel. It was a warm, lazy afternoon. You almost fell asleep, almost. Her bed smelled like her, so did the ruffled, Nirvana t-shirt you were laying on. Everything in this room practically screamed Ellie. The scent, the sketches on the wall — of Dina, and Jesse, and you. Why did she have more sketches of you than anyone else? A dinosaur lego, a miniature solar system, obscure band posters, Oh! here’s the pin you gifted her once!, two pairs of mismatched socks, a random rock (“It’s from like, the moon” she said. It was from the local science museum.)

“El” you whined, receiving a gentle hum in response.

“I’m bored” you exclaimed with a heavy sigh. It's not as if she owed you any attention, she told you she had to study. For some reason, some odd reason nor you or her could put your finger on, you had to be there with her. “Well” you excused. “It’s not like I have anything better to do, right?” A lie. What about your project due Monday? Nevermind.

“Catch this” she exclaimed, tossing a serene light blue stress ball directly at your face.

“Ow!” you whined, yet again. If only you knew what those whines did to her.

“Sorry bro, gotta finish this fucking question. She said, flexing her sore hand. “Fuck this fucking Prof, seriously” She mumbled, clearly annoyed, clearly frustrated. Ellie had this thing, well, if you could even call something that she only had specifically with you a “Thing” — where she had to call you by those stupid names. “Dude” “Bro” “Jeez man!” just to see you squirm. Youd flinch ever so slightly, a fleeting reaction that betrayed a hint of offense flickering in your eyes. Every time you couldn’t help but pout, couldn’t help but look a little bit hurt, it did something to her. It wasn’t because she liked hurting you, God knows she didn’t. It would give her a glimmer of hope, of light. Shed journal about it, too;

“I called her Bro again. She looked really sad. Why does she get sad? I’m so fucking stupid. It’s probably because no one else calls her fucking bro, I’m literally delusional. Also had expired fucking Pizza. Worst day ever. Shit. Not that bad because she smiled at batted her eyelashes. God Ellie you need therapy.” YOURE A DUMBASS!!!!”

Half an hour had elapsed, brimming with Ellie muttering to herself under her breath. lighting a blunt, burning the blunt, passing it to you, begging you to give it back after 3 seconds.

You were pretty sure you had gone through every single app on your phone five times already. Stalking rando’s on Instagram, watching ASMR tiktoks, talking shit with Dina in the groupchat. How much more of this boredom could you take? My god, you were humming a stupid melody to yourself.

“Griiiind boy you know I grind when I pull-“

“Shh”

“Excuse me?” You said.

“I’m trying to concentrate. Also what the fuck is a Fartulum?” Ellie retorted, withdrawing slightly and punctuating her frustration with stomps on the floor. God, she was too fucking cute.

“Can I play on your phone?” You questioned innocently. One more opening and closing the same App and you’d have lost your damn mind. You could practically see the Candy Crush candies popping inside of your brain every time you closed your eyes.

“No” she answered bluntly.

“Why? you scared I’ll find your nudes? Not gonna look- Swear on my li-“

You could hear her eye rolling, somehow.

“I dont have fucking nudes” she affirmed with a touch of exasperation.

“Someone else’s?” you said quietly. Your tone almost exposed you. Almost.

“Psh… no” Ellie said in return, just as quiet. Her tone almost exposed her, too.

Wish I had yours. Shut it, Ellie.

“Then let me go on your phone” You whined, got off the bed and almost slipped on one of her belts that laid on the floor. So messy, so, so Ellie.

She cast a sidelong glance at you, her eyes darting from the corner of her vision. Her grip on the pen was incredibly tight. It happened every time you got near, got too close to her. Whether it was clutching the strings of her hoodie, her knuckles turning white with tension, or her toes curling in a clenched stance. Shed never ever admit it to herself, cool, calm & collected, but fuck did you make her nervous.

You settled yourself on the chair beside her, causing her to divert every ounce of her attention back to her assignment, shifting it solely onto you. You. You. You.

She gazed directly into your eyes, and a peculiar warmth flooded your face. Its funny how even after being friends for all this time, making eye contact with her managed to stir something within you. She asked you about it once, mid fight. “You never even look at me when we talk!” she huffed. “Yes I do!” no you dont. “No you don’t!” and when your lips quivered, turning you in, she left it at that.

Ellie scratched the back of her neck, her arms flexing subtly with the motion. You gave her that look, the look that made her cheeks go bright pink, her hands clam up. She bit her lip. “Fine”. You won, flashing her a toothy smile she couldn’t help but grin at.

And there you were, with Ellie’s iPhone 5C (Yeah, she never got that buying a new iPhone every 2 years phenomenon) laying on Ellie’s bed, in Ellie’s room.

“Ew - Ellie what the fuck? why is your screen greasy?!” You squirmed, fingertips grazing over her slightly sticky screen. Is that fucking chicken nuggets residue?

“Shut up, dude. You asked me for my phone so deal with the consequences”

Dude.

You rolled your eyes, proceeded to wipe the screen of her phone with the corner of her cozy flannel bedsheet. Her phone was really warm. One more month and it would probably set on fire.

“Password?” You questioned, and shifted to lay on your stomach, your cheek caressing the pillow. It had a little auburn colored hair laying on top of it.

Ellie huffed and waited a second before she responded, contemplating again. It’s harmless, fuck it.

“Okay, seriously - you could get hacked with that dumbass password”

“Pffft” Ellie huffed. “I’d fucking beat them up if they tried robbing me” she said, ever the brave.

“I’m not… talking about robbers, Ellie. Like, hackers?”

“Same thing”

“You cant beat up hackers they’re- Nevermind” you sighed.

If the room was classic Ellie, god, so was her phone. Default Apple background, because she truly couldn’t be bothered. iMessage, Instagram with four pictures on her feed; One of her arm slightly flexing her tat (who the fuck was the bitch who commented “damn” under there?), one of a stray cat wearing her grey beanie, a meme that says “Fuck sex. Let’s do something romantic like play Fireboy and Watergirl on CoolMathGames.Com” (God, she thought she was so funny for that one. 6 Likes, one from you, one from Jesse, the fake Instagram account you and Dina created for Joel, her ex Cat, and one from Dina and a spam bot). Next to the Instagram laid the NASA app (of course), Call Of Duty for iPhone (Made her sleep for only fifteen minutes one night), calculator, 9GAG (People still use that?!), and… her gallery.

You pursed your lips, contemplating the situation. Should you?after all, Ellie said; No nudes. So what could possibly be on there?

Of course.

You couldn't contain a soft giggle that escaped your lips, earning an inquisitive whine from Ellie. "What's so funny?" she grumbled, unable to resist her curiosity.

“Said you were studying, so study” You said, while scrolling through her gallery.

As you readjusted your position on the bed, you unintentionally swiped to the left, revealing her albums. Just harmless browsing, right?

A picture of you, laying on the grass, a bright, toothy smile spread across your face. It was from your Instagram, the one you deleted because you thought you looked dumb. The one Ellie commented a for once unsarcastic “Woah” on.

The album was locked.

You felt your throat go dry, heartbeat speeding up. Your leg started shaking, and God, you hoped she would come and snatch the phone off of your hand.

But she didn’t. She just shifted in her sit, cleared her throat and resumed her studies.

You shouldn’t have. But you did.

You felt like screaming at the top of your lungs. Was it even hotter in here now? Extra humid today? you bit your lip, it almost hurt.

A picture of you and Dina. A selfie you sent to the groupchat two weeks ago. Ellie doodled a green heart on it. You were sweating. A picture of you on Christmas last year. That same day you had your stupid fight on. You were wearing a Santa hat, mug of hot Coco and tiny white marshmallows in your hand.

Your stomach felt as if it were infested by a swarm of Ellie looking butterfly’s.

A picture of you sound asleep, in Ellie’s bed. She was mid-moving a hair strand away from your face. It was blurry. You recognized that top.

You were wasted that day. Blabbering uncontrollably about how you had to crash on her bed, because you were scared your new roommate would think you’re stupid, and dumb, and an idiot, for getting drunk at a frat party.

You couldn’t understand why Ellie didn’t want to help you. You almost kicked her when she said she couldn’t, that you’d be better off in your bed. “I snore. And I kick in my sleep - Seriously” You almost cried. You called her a bad friend, a fake one, because — isn’t that what friends are for? Shouldn’t they have your back when you’re a babbling mess? Hold your hair for you, put you to sleep, take care of you?

Ellie couldn’t sleep that night.

When you laid there, right on her bed, her face went so red and hot you could fry something on it. She almost hit herself in the face when her chest grazed your back. When your leg caressed her’s, and ended up on top of her thigh, she almost screamed. When you shifted to face her, an angelic, sound asleep expression on your face, she swore she almost died. The string of your top came off, revealing more of your shoulder, and the strap of your bra, Ellie turned around so fast she almost woke you up.

She slept for 20 minutes.

When she woke up, she had to make herself remember it. Remember you, laying with her.

So she took a picture. An innocent one.

You almost jumped when the pen fell slipped from her hand and she turned around to face you.

Habits: always eating snacks when stressed, fumbling with her hands and needs music to work and function. She is a very good listener and scares people with the knowledge she possesses over them in this way. 

Scars: stretch marks on the belly and upper arms. Scars on the fingers and lowers arms.

Preferred method of showing care/ affection: she loves plants! She would sneak plants in the offices and places from people she likes.

You're a dinosaur 🦕 baby in the museum of my broken hearted 💔 past.

I haven't done much in the way of deciphering Emily's social media posts lately, but this one's GIANT, so hold onto your hats (Puns intended)

Just as the show has been leaving us hints about Beth's return, so has Emily in her projects, music, and social media posts.

I've written about many of them over the years, this one is no different, and it's no coincidence...

Most of you will know about Emily's new merch beanie with the broken-hearted dinosaur 🦕

It's inspired by her song Avett Brothers. Here is a snippet of the relevant lyrics from the song.

The broken-hearted dinosaur 🦕 and the museum are without question links to Beth's return, so let's look at how...

In season 5, Daryl and Carol jump into a car to go find Beth.

That car eventually helps Daryl find her.

That car is also connected to the episode Consumed, in which Daryl and Carol (after being recently reunited in 501) find a clue to Beth's whereabouts and go searching for her.

And It's by that car they get the initial clue that helps them to find Beth (Daryl sees the car with the white cross)

I'm sure you all remember that Carol plays a pivotal role in getting that car to work by charging the battery.

That car from back in season 5 has a very specific symbol on the keyring 🦕

Without that dinosaur keyring and Carol charging the battery, Daryl would never have found Beth.

The upcoming Book of Carol seemingly has many repeating themes from around the era of Consumed.

We will see a Daryl/Carol reunion, like we saw in 501.

The two will again be separated from the rest of their family like they were in Consumed (thanks in large part to the dinosaur 🦕 and the clue they receive)

The character Isabelle (Beth proxy) will be returning in season 2.

And, we know the storyline will bring them to a museum - The Louvre.

The broken-hearted dinosaur 🦕 is symbolic of a lost ancient giant love that is long in the past, thought to be extinct.

What's kept in museums? The past... they hold pieces of history.

In this case, as Emily puts it, a dinosour, aka ancient love ❤️

Emily knows. She's always known...

The show has more recently given us links to Beth and museums as well.

We saw it hinted at in Daryl Dixon season 1, especially in the credits with the self-portrait of Marie Gabrielle-Carpet, who lived in a museum...the Louvre, with her love.

Isabelle was a very obvious Beth proxy in DD1, and this self-portrait of Marie in the opening credits is shown along with the name of the actess who plays Isabelle. Linking the Museum to Isabelle and by proxy to Beth.

Genet in DD1 also mentions working in a museum to Codron when she realises Codron has switched sides and betrayed her by not killing Isabelle (Beth) and Laurent and stopping them from getting to the Nest (a representation of the pyramid/Louvre)

Thorne in TOWL episode one, a repeat of Dawn and Genet in many ways, also mentions a museum to Rick.

She tell Rick that the girl they saved, lived in a museum. The dead overran the museum, but the girl was saved by hiding in a giant grasshopper. That girl lost her family and had no one.

The giant grasshopper symbolism is linked here to a museum - linking it to Beth (also grasshoppers are Greene).

In this story, the girl that lost her family survived inside the museum, inside the (green) grasshopper.

Just like the key ring dinosaur in season 5. The dinosaur 🦕 museum in The Book of Carol could very well lead to a clue about Beth and a long lost love ❤️.

Now, If you read my last post, i mention the many links to the biblical story of Moses that were seen in TOWL episode 2. Well the "Giant" and "Grasshopper" symbolism is another link to the story of Moses, when he is leading his people into the promised land.

The verse they are pulling from in the story Thorne tells is in Numbers 13.33

There we saw the giants and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

When Moses leads his people to the outskirts of the promised land, they send scouts ahead, to go into the land before entering it. The above verse is what the scouts report back.

They saw Giants in the land and they seemed liked grasshoppers because they were so small in comparison.

I've written before how the Nest (pyramid shaped) in Daryl Dixon season 1 and the Louvre are both representations of the promised land in the story of Moses.

I also wrote about a promotion for The book of Carol x that gave her the symbolism of Balaam's donkey. (another link to the promised land)

And now we have this "Giant", "Grasshopper" and Museum symbolism linked to a museum to add to it all.

Overall, these symbols represent repeating history, and history is a dinosaur museum...Emily gave us a "key" to unlock the symbolism.

The Wolf comes home through repeating the past and a clue to her return is linked to a dinosaur 🦕 and museums and love, so the book of Carol is going to be very interesting, especially as we know that wolf 🐺 = Louvre.

Could the dinosaurs 🦕 broken heart 💔 be mended ❤️ by going back in time...to a museum of the broken-hearted past?

Wind blew through your face as you legs felt weaker and weaker. Running as fast as your legs would carry you, you tried so desperately to avoid your fate. Balls of fire made their way towards you. Surrounded in heat and ash, you looked up to see those eyes. Those red, glowing, eyes, she was your beginning and end.

As the flames began to engulf you, your mind went black. You woke up with a silent sob and beads of sweat coding your forehead. Scrambling to the back of the bed, you let your tears flow freely. Reaching your hand for Ronald, and holding him agaisnt your chest, you wailed.

3 days, it had been three days since the museum. Three days since Wanda had threatened your life. Since then, you had been trapped in her home in Westview. You rarely left your room, you couldn’t shake the image of her bringing you to your demise. The only thing on your mind was your old life.

Wanda heard the screams and sobs and immediately ran to your shared room. She had been reading the dark hold in the twins room for the last few nights. Distracted in her own magic, she was pulled away by your sounds of terror.

Before she even entered, the room, she knew what was wrong. Your thoughts screamed at her. She knew it, you knew it, and she hated herself for it, but she deeply regretted the events of the museum.

As she carefully put down the dark hold, she made her way to you. Curled up in the corner of your bed hugging your stuffed dinosaur, soft sobs escaped your mouth. The sokovian joined you on the bed and you tensed as her hands wrapped around your waist. You cried tears of frustration. You should hate her, but you couldn’t.

Melting into her embrace, you sobbed. You hated how her sweet and caring touch made it impossible to hate her. You hated how she kiss your forehead and whisper sweet praises into your ear. You hated that you were hers, and yet, you wouldn’t change a thing.

“Shhhh my love, my little dino, it was only a bad dream. I love you so much. I won’t lay a hand on you.”

You scoffed in your head. Empty promises.

“You are mine forever and always my little t-rex. Nobody is going to hurt you.”

The combination of her hand in your hair and the humming in your ear made sleep come back to you. As your captor love lulled you back to slumber, you layed your head on her chest. Before sleep took over you, you could’ve sworn you heard her.

“I’m so sorry, my dino.”

The game developers and artists did an amazing job! I can’t put my finger on exactly what makes it so special, plenty of games these days have amazing graphics and art. So maybe it’s just the state of the world rn that makes this little digital museum feel so tranquil but whatever it is, it’s good. I can’t wait to fill the museum up if it’s already able to make me feel so peaceful while mostly empty 🦋🐟🦕

As someone who has been playing animal crossing since it was on the GameCube, going through the museum on New Horizons just now was like a deeply religious experience and maybe it’s the cabin fever getting to me but I started tearing up walking through the aquarium tunnel

A little update!

I’ve had a few days to think about it, and I’ve started thinking about the stuff I like about the movie.

- I really really liked Stygimoloch’s scene. Genuinely charmed.

- that opening scene felt like a different movie. Truly excellent, chilling dino-horror (WHERE’S MY DINO CRISIS REMAKE)

- again. Zia is Bae.

- There’s actually some pretty funny stuff early on. Chris Pratt���s big scene on the island is great.

- the gyrosphere sequence is actually pretty tense and well-directed.

- After speaking with my buddy Thomas Adams, curator of paleontology at the Witte Museum, he pointed out how he liked the (admittedly inconsistent) moments of the dinosaurs just being dinosaurs. Obviously stuff like the Baryonyx putting itself in mortal danger to kill some humans is ridiculous, but the handful of scenes of the dinosaurs behaving like real animals were nice for him.

So check the link for the full audio review over on OneofUs.net, where I along with Chris, Patience, Michael, and Frank, “discuss” the movie ;) But if you want the short version? It’s a bad movie. Like, a shockingly terrible script for a major motion picture. I felt like it was made like of those movies you see on Best of the Worst - just written by people who have no clue how to make a script. Laughably awful. The dinosaurs are neat, I guess? Kinda low-quality CGI for a film with this big of a budget. The handful of animatronics are cool, basically the only times that the dinosaurs look truly good, despite the needless CGI paint-overs. The Indoraptor is a cool movie monster, way cooler and more threatening than Indominus. The characters are flatlines across the board. Bryce Dallas Howard is somehow LESS interesting than the last film…and her motivations are almost completely unexplained except for maybe one throwaway line. Chris Pratt’s character is written, again, by someone who has seen other films, and knows that characters are supposed to have things like “refusal of the call,” but doesn’t understand that choices should be motivated in a film. The only enjoyable character is Zia, Paleo-Lesbian ❤️ Lastly, it has one of the worst executions of a super intriguing plot twist that has some of the worst setup and payoff put to film. Again, made by people who don’t know how movies work. I pray that Bayona gets away from this one uninjured. When he gets to make proper horror sequences, the film shines. Overall? 5 out of 10 Barbasol cans for being perfect MST3K material.
