   (( @ that anon @eggplantdefender got bout icons I make my overlays in GIMP! It’s a free photo manipulation program and, once you get the hang of it, fairly easy to use. All I do is make a 100x100 canvas, get the layers I need(for lanterns; the emblem of the corps and the ring), and get to work. ))

This is the Red Lantern Overlay! To make the border of it, I made a line 2px around the very edge of the canvas and took a foreground-to-background set brush with a bright red and a dark red. I did the same for the second line, growing the selection by 2px and the same for the third, growing the selection by 4px. The emblem overlay was simple to do; get the Red Lantern Corps Emblem, give it a white background, and remove the emblem’s color. Then I just turned the opacity down. In order to make the ring stand out, I added soft white edges just to the corners and turned the opacity on that down(but not too much!)

I then added the ring layer and sized it down and moved it to the corner. Did the same for the Sinestro Corps overlay, Green Lantern overlay, and the Blue Lantern overlay.

Some other overlays I just messed around with- like Fame’s Mainverse overlay.

The background of the overlay is a brush in GIMP on the burnt fire gradient setting. The letters are Flame’s native language, Univeral Wolf, and stand for F.C for Flame Copps. The border is just a 1px wide binary brush.

This is Flame’s Lanternvrse overlay; it heavily uses the old, classic, checked overlay. Traditionally in black/white, I changed hers to red/yellow since Flame is in the Sinestro Corps(yellow) and the Red Lantern Corps(red). The border uses the same binary brush as Mainverse, only in red, yellow, and black.

Mainverse Split! This takes another overlay and softly erases some areas and then takes a gradient tool with the burnt gradient and applies it horizontally, giving it the vertical lines of color. 

SPNverse builds off of Main Split, but uses different brushes.

Mistaken Identity is my simplest overlay, being a soft edged white border and black font.

These three overlays- Galacticverse, Skullverse, and Rocketverse respectively- are actually made in Paint Tool SAI since I can’t seem to find GIMP’s clipping layers setting. Paint Tool SAI does have a binary tool so that’s how I made Galacticverse’s hard edges. Skullverse uses my Acrylic brush and many different layers, and Rocketverse heavily uses clipping layers.
