"Doesn't that seem like a waste?" Nathan arched a brow at the woman. "I have no intention of burning blood to ash. If you reported a rebellion, I'd imprison them all and drain them one by one," he told her casually, meaning every word. The casual savagery was matched by the unabashed way he stared at her, devouring her every curve and asset. Slowly, with the careful movement that marked him as a predator, Nate stood from his throne. "Something tells me your village isn't rebelling, after all. They would never send me such a pretty, delectable gift if they were."

Tessa was still trying to process the situation. One minute, she'd been asleep in her bed, and the next, someone was pulling a hood over her eyes and tying her up, ignoring her pleas for help as she was bundled up into some kind of wagon for a bumpy ride... somewhere. It wasn't until the wagon had stopped and she'd been handed off to the castle guards that she realized what had happened. The town had been debating who to send for this year's sacrifice for some time now, with no willing volunteers, but last she'd checked, they were angling towards some sort of lottery. Either she'd lost the lottery in a big way, or someone had taken matters into their own hands and decided to make sure they weren't on the menu this year.

It didn't matter, she was quickly coming to realize. The guards didn't care what she had to say, she had been presented as the sacrifice from her town, and that was that. They took the bag off her head and even untied her, but the sharp weapons in their hands made it clear that running was not an option as they ushered her into the throne room.

"If I told you they were, would you burn it to the ground?" She replied bitterly before she could stop herself, still cursing the fate that had brought her here.
