❝Well now. This looks rather... cozy.❞
It had been some time since Freiza had even bothered ‘visiting’ the seer; in truth, while it was satisfying to spook him, sometimes it was tiresome to deal with the fear that the Namekian exhibited. Useful, but tiresome.
So in the smallest effort to make the seer be more... ‘at home’, Berryblue suggested to allow the Namekian his homely accessories. Others that were in similar positions were given the same nicety, provided that they were conscious of a limit.
Frieza knew there was a trip out to Earth done by one of the scouts, probably at the request of Berryblue who might have managed to gotten the seer to talk about what would make his room more at home. This was the first time the emperor had encountered what that might have meant.
Reaching up and taking a part of the closest hanging drapery, he’d inspect its material (silk? He certainly approved) as the seer remained frozen on his chair - the visit was a surprise, of course. Aside from the customary knock to alert that he was here, he doesn’t often bother to wait unless otherwise asked to.
Gazing around, there were drapes hung from the ceilings, blocking off most of the blank steel-blue wall from sight and arranged in a way to make it seem more like... what’s the word? Pavilion? Yes, that was it - the room was almost transformed into a pavilion. Aside from the drapes, there was only a few added items that he could see, which at least meant that there wasn’t many objects to be bothered with.
❝I have to say that I am surprised that you hadn’t attempted to cram more than half of what ever dwelling you lived in into this room. Most certainly had tried.❞
❝Er... t-thank you??❞ It seemed that the Namekian was at a loss of what to say, a mix of the usual fear as well as unsure of how to reply to small talk. He wasn’t even sure if it was meant to be a compliment or not, Frieza suspected.
Stepping further inside, he’d gaze around as he took account of what was now part of the room, having a bit more of a sense of what this Namekian was like. He was an... odd one, that was for certain. A small line of books of presumably Earth-origin inside the small enclave near the bed, a framed picture right in front of them, a thick comforter of some kind spread out on the said bed...
❝Make sure you send your thanks to Berryblue for making this possible.❞ While he suspected that it’s already happened, he’d like to ensure that his old caretaker was given the respect she was due. With a hurried nod from the seer in assurance that he would, Frieza was turning away before his gaze went back to that framed picture. Without invitation or even asking, his tail snaked forward and took it off its resting place, prompting a objection that was immediately silenced from the Namekian as he’d watch the emperor examine the picture. A short human with magenta eyes, with one arm wrapped around the arm of a far taller Namekian of a slightly bigger build of muscles...
There was something familiar in the way that the Namekian held himself, with that golden ornament around his neck, his ears pierced exactly the same way.
❝Tell me; is this you?❞
Surprised, the seer would hesitate before nodding slightly when the Icejin glanced up. It wasn’t exactly hard to figure which one Frieza was referring to. Gazing returning to the picture after a few seconds of studying, it was like a large piece of a puzzle he held. This was several years old, from what he’d have to guess, and the human may seem quite happy... but he could see the signs of some kind of tiredness from the bags under her eyes. A slight hollowed look to the cheeks. Tired, and suffering from some kind of illness.
❝Hm.❞ Without further comment, he’d place the picture back to its spot, twisting it ever slightly until it was back in its position - a habit that came from when he had to return his own possessions to their places, and his caretaker would double-check his memory. Perhaps he may learn a touch more at a later date. Such as why it was that the Namekian, who clearly had the normal onyx eyes, now had the same magenta-color as that of the human. ❝Well. I must say that I approve of these changes. Better than most others, I would admit.❞
He was already turning away even as he could sense surprise emitted from the seer - he didn’t need to see it to be certain. ❝One last thing... I’ve been told by Berryblue of your name. Taiko, is it?❞
That... had been neglected upon the Namekian being pressed into his service, though at the time he had doubted that he really needed to know much about the other except what use he could be. ❝Yes... That’s correct.❞
❝Good. Then I can properly address you as necessary. Considering how hasty I were about having you situated, I suppose it had slipped my mind at the asking.❞ Not that it would have meant much since he had been in the process of changing his mind about disposing the Namekian. ❝If you need anything else, you know whom to request them from. Not many would catch my advisor’s eye, so I suggest to not be exceptionally... greedy with your requests.❞
❝Y-yes sir...❞
As the door opened, he’d glance back over his shoulder - the seer’s eyes were averted, antenna drooping versus the curled appearance they usually would be positioned. Terrified as the Namekian was, being isolated was not very... healthy. ❝You’re not confined to your quarters, by the by. While you are prohibited from leaving the ship for any reason except for my orders, you do have some leeway.❞
❝Ah..??❞ Forced to look back, Taiko seemed surprised at the suggestion. While not exactly.. confined, they had assumed that they had little ability to move around. They were all but prisoner by name. ❝I... I suppose...❞
❝And should you encounter any trouble - ❞ Here, he’d give the seer a slow smile, ❝ - simply tell them that their Lord Frieza would be most displeased about them harassing you. The kais knows how your seering works, and I’m fairly certain that being pushed around may cause some instability to the process.❞
Antenna shot straight up; wasn’t that kind of like lying?? And it was... the tyrant’s suggestion! ❝But - I -❞
Yet Frieza was already gone, chuckling to himself at the look of incredibility and bafflement the seer exhibited at the suggestion. Ah, this may be just as fun as the scaring. Maybe a little more enjoyable.

❝Of all the supposed concentration and extensive search, none of you can find the planet filled with Namekians -- yet you manage to find the single one on that hovel.❞ The voice was dry and rather humorless as the two men before him were left uncertain, keeping a hold on the third between them. Surveying the ‘guest’ they brought with them, he could see that the Namekian was trembling, petrified in his presence. Good -- at least that was right in the universe.
His eyes snapped back to the one that had approached him with this matter. ❝And you bring him to me rather than that radar’s schematics... why?❞ These men were sent to Earth to fetch that clever woman’s work, to ensure that finding the dragon balls would be done easily, whenever necessary -- as well as to be able to make that contraption whenever he said. The imbeciles that had successfully tracked and collected the orbs from the year previously had, unfortunately, lost him that very radar they were using in the process.
It’s infuriating enough as it were without being bothered when they have no real results. They’d best hope to make this worthwhile.
❝W-well, my lord,❞ began the one that he was eyeing, tugging the elbow of the Namekian who’d stumble out of his knee-locked stance, ❝we heard that it was the Namekians that... made the dragon balls, yes? So... wouldn’t it make sense that perhaps one of them could find them as easily as a radar?❞
❝Especially with those labs being watched more carefully by that traitorous Saiyan,❞ threw in the other’s input, daring to speak. ❝Along with... the other, hanging around all day - ❞
A single lash of Frieza’s tail caused all three of them to flinch, almost making this entertaining.
❝You mean Goku.❞ It wasn’t a secret that the Icejin despised that man, but he will not tolerate having his men tiptoe around the matter like he were made of eggshells. ❝What I expected from the pair of you is to stake out those labs until the moment they lax their attention or be distracted elsewhere.❞
Returning his gaze to the tall green alien who would shirk as though to be smaller, his scowl lessened ever slightly. ❝Very well -- let’s see if any fruit may be bore from this inane hope of yours. I’d hate to find only disappointment.
You -- Namekian.❞ That jolt going through his shoulders straight up to those rather willowy antennas gave him a small flicker of satisfaction. ❝Tell me, are there any merits to their thoughts? The last time I’ve visited your people, they at least had the sense to already have the dragon balls at hand, even if not in the same location.❞
A smirk would show when mentioning that mudball brought about the widening of the eyes; perhaps flashes of memories of his visit? The fear had to come from something more than simply knowing his name. ❝Well? Can your kind sense dragon balls?❞
❝Ah...❞ Evidently the fear was the kind that made it near impossible for the would-be victim to speak, though generally a little flick of his tail seemed to do the trick. It served that purpose now, causing the Namekian to flinch out of that state with a swallow. ❝N... no... ❞
❝No?❞ Eyes narrowed dangerously, Frieza rose from his seat and hovered forward until he was setting directly in front of the cowering Namekian, taking further notes about him that had not been bothered before. Golden trinkets of jewelry - a flowing white silken skirt - he looked about as pampered as an adviser. He certainly wasn’t a warrior worth an ounce of pride. ❝’No’, as in you can’t find them, or perhaps the variant that says you would never do so if you could?❞
❝I-I..!❞ The panic was quite obvious, which made usually the words more believable than answers caused by torture. ❝We c-can’t sense them. I don’t even know h-how they can be tracked by a radar! At least, I’ve never sensed them.❞ Shaking his head, the slender Namekian would shut his eyes tightly. ❝That’s the truth.❞
❝I see.❞ This was going about as well as he expected - absolutely nowhere. A huff left him as his swayed slowly behind him. ❝Then there’s really no point to continue this facade of questioning.❞ A hand would raise as though he was deciding whether to dismiss the Namekian with a wave of a hand or to obliterate him on the spot, but it certainly triggered a reaction as the third, unspoken man of the team suddenly lost hold of something he’s been holding on to as a yelp of surprise escaped him. Frieza barely got to glance in his direction when the peculiar blue-tinted orb was suddenly between him and the Namekian. With his arms still restrained, maybe it was a wild hope to have some sort of wall between him and possibly death.
Yet Frieza felt a compulsion of interest as he’d see his own crimson eyes reflecting back, a memory of when Goku had the audacity to visit him in his own Hell to quite literally coerce him into helping with the Tournament of Power, with a black-robed old crone who had an object very similar to this. What was that old woman’s name..? Fortuneteller Baba, he seemed to recall.
She had been essential in bringing Frieza back for a singular day (so it was planned), but he felt that she had more to herself than to temporarily bring back the dead. Goku certainly seemed to respect her to a degree that made him wonder what was all that she held.
❝Tell me; do you, per chance, know the name Baba?❞
One magenta-hued eye opened with uncertainty, evidently expecting anything but that question. Perhaps a shot through the chest.
❝The... the fortuneteller? She... well... we seers look up to her, e-even though I doubt she’s even alive...❞
❝Seers.❞ Tail curving into a graceful arc behind him, the interest grew into intrigue. ❝The kind that says they’re peering into the future, correct?❞ There was simply a quick nod in answer. ❝Until recently, I’ve thought it all to be a fraud of some kind, yet I’ve begun to think it may be possible otherwise in thanks to this Fortuneteller Baba. Or... perhaps my initial assumption had been correct?❞
It seemed that his line of thoughts were confusing the other, more so in why he’s suddenly so interested rather than actually failing to grasp his words. ❝Some... are frauds, yes... They think it’s an easy cash grab to be vague about someone’s future.❞ There was a spark that hadn’t been there before, even as it faded quickly. Insult to his pride, perhaps. ❝The art itself is real however, if y-you’re trained in it.❞
❝Hm.❞ With a wave of his hand, the two men holding the Namekian would step away and leaving the captive all on his own, much to his abrupt confusion as he glanced to one then the other. ❝Then perhaps, if you’re so inclined, you could prove it to me.❞ Drawing the orb to hover over his palm, he’d glance up at the other after a few seconds to allow him to understand his words.
❝If you can do so to my satisfaction, I may even spare your life.❞

[ Forced Recruitment - Pt. 2 ] [ Pt. 1 ]
❝Just... prove it... by reading y-your future?❞ Everything had happened so fast that it was taking their mind to fully wrap around the situation. Obviously the biggest concern was that they were trapped on the ship with Frieza directly in front of them, which still sent tremors down their spine. That voice sounded pleasant (towards the end anyway, as ominous as the threat was), but his eyes were cold, calculating...
All this, because they got caught by the small group of the emperor’s men who were disgruntled with the state of how well-guarded their target was. Taiko couldn’t be sure when they’ve spotted the seer, but they struck near dusk, when the busiest part of the day had died away.
Unable to control the shudders, their mind still reeling from what they thought was certain death, the orb being presented to the seer would break them out from that slight daze.
❝I’d trust that it isn’t a difficult request, is it?❞ The tone was level and light, which probably made the situation all the more uncertain. It certainly didn’t calm their heart in the slightest. ❝To know one’s future certainly seems straight-forward to me.❞
❝Not difficult, no... just...❞ Swallowing back a lump that was trying to block off their air, their arms would wound around the orb as they tried to meet those crimson eyes. It was very difficult to do, unfortunately. ❝The future is h-hardly set in stone - I don’t know if there’s such a thing like an ‘ultimate destiny’, or a predestined fate of any one person. Everyone... is like a branching river, I-I guess you could say...❞ The eyes still never left theirs, but they seemed to sharpen as he wordlessly followed along. ❝S-so... it’s not so much as a solid future... you have several possible paths, and what ever choice you make determines the flow. There’s multiple futures hovering before you, until you pick the course of the decision.❞
❝Mm.❞ A moment’s reprise was given as those eyes finally left theirs, a visible change to the seer’s stance from great tension to slight relaxation. The emperor’s tail swayed thoughtfully behind him. ❝So... say if I wanted to know whether keeping you alive would be beneficial to me or not; you would show me the outcomes of either choice?❞
The feeling of something sinking down to their stomach made them wonder if that could have been a lump of ice or their heart. But now they were trapped by his gaze again, clearly expecting an answer with the slightest cant of his head. There was the feeling of slight impatience coming off of him.
They could barely go over a tone of whisper. ❝Y... yes.❞
Taiko wasn’t the expert of reading tail language, but the slow way it’d arch and circle before relaxing seemed to mean quiet satisfaction. ❝Excellent; my, there’s certainly more to this seer business than I’ve been informed.❞ The smile was not reassuring in the slightest, especially as a corner would deepen to a smirk.
❝Then that is the quarry of the matter, Seer; shall I leave you alive, or would it be better to be rid of you entirely?❞
Under the circumstances, it’d be a wonder if Taiko could even be able to concentrate long enough to channel the power, let alone even remain calm right now. Their life was literally on the line, and the future would never bend to protect them. But they... had no real choice in the matter. Either they do this and possibly die, or refuse and most certainly face death.
Gingerly holding the orbs on the palms of their hands, the Namekian stared into the orb, forcing themself to only see the azure-speckled crystal that it was formed with. While it was near impossible to ignore the tyrant that plagued their nightmares even as a mere shapeless, vague shape of destruction, there were a couple of techniques they’ve learned to focus on the task rather than the person. Once that was achieved, it was a simple matter of channeling their energy into their hands.
Their body would truly relax from the tense state they’ve been in for hours, a trance enveloping the seer as the troubled expression simply melted away to something closer to a blank emotionless mask. The orb simply lifted slightly over their hands, gaining Frieza’s attention as he’d focus more on the crystal when it began to reveal glimpses of a way.
The first path was simple enough; the Namekian was let go, returned to Earth, but it seemed to be a future where they’d try to warn those at the Capsule labs. Whether they succeeded or not was not known, even though it was enough to know that they’d probably still attempt. Unaware of their surroundings, Taiko wouldn’t see the single lash of Frieza’s tail.
The other path straight-forward, the sight of the seer’s face going blank as soon as the Icejin used his death beam, going straight through the heart. It would be nothing more than a small clean-up duty for the servants, and none on Earth except for the clients would be the wiser. And they would never know what happened.
As those mingled visions of a few humans slowly walking past what was the seer’s pavilion would clear away, they were then replaced by yet one more vision, the most unexpected. A vision of the Namekian dressed in what seemed to be the force’s attire, silent and apparently meek, the orb more than once shown and used, although it wasn’t clear for what particular reason. But it was clear that whenever Frieza had the seer present, it was for this very purpose they were doing right now.
A thoughtful noise escaped the emperor now as the orb’s soft glow finally faded to its beautiful clear colors. While Taiko had certainly seen the visions, the trance induced onto them took a moment for them to truly react to them. By the time their eyes actually focused on the being before them, it was to see that he made a final decision.
❝Very useful indeed, Seer. How considerate of your powers to reveal all options that would lay before me.❞ An excited twitch at the tip of his tail was probably the most energetic they’ve ever seen him that didn’t radiate with malice entirely. ❝It truly isn’t a simple matter of yes or no. I would have to see how far these powers of yours could reveal to me.❞
Cold sweat was forming, rolling down their neck as their recently-calmed heart was racing again. ❝B-but... you said...❞
A brief laugh would leave the Icejin, already anticipating their words. ❝That I would spare your life if I’m satisfied, yes. And I’m fulfilling that promise!❞ A smile was given as his tail curled forward, hovering as though it were a snake about to strike. ❝For doing so, it simply means that you shall be of service to me. I could hardly trek back and forth to your little dirt planet whenever I’ve in need of you.❞
All Taiko could do was to step backwards away from the absolutely beaming emperor as he gave a hearty laugh. No. No no nonono...
But even as that simple word kept flashing through their thoughts, Frieza was suddenly right in front of them, the silence somehow even more deafening as he hovered with his tail dangerously close. ❝Understand me, Seer -- you might very well be a useful tool, and you shall be kept comfortably as such. I daresay that some of my men would be jealous of your treatment; you shall never have to see a day of combat.
But - ❞ Here, the tip of his tail traced against Taiko’s cheek, causing them to flinch at the cool touch, yet unable to turn their wide eyes from the other. ❝ - for every refusal on your part... if I catch so much as a hint of a lie...❞ Finding that he leaned close enough for his breath to touch their ear, it was a wonder that the Namekian hadn’t jerked away.
❝Someone else dies for your words. And that wouldn’t be fair to them, now would it?❞
Breath hitched, it seemed that the sense of hearing was fading, except for a faint ringing sound, even though the chuckle was loud and clear. Unaware of tears building until a trail of warmth was trickling down along the skin, the tip of the tail seemed to brush away the worst of it before it withdrew. Unable to keep them up, their knees gave out from underneath them as Frieza turned away, returning to his seat.
❝Take him to be situated; a small quarters of his own, I think. And have the armorer get something ready as well within the next few hours, since he can’t go prancing around in that attire.❞ There was a twist to his smile as Frieza glanced back at the shocked Taiko who was uncaring of being tugged back onto their feet. ❝I do believe the colors black and gold would suit him nicely.❞

Anonymous Client asked:
So how's life on Frieza's payroll, Taiko? Hope he hasn't hurt you.
❝No... no. He hasn’t hurt me, nor had he even touched me.❞
The seer was just as confused of this development as others might be if they only knew of Frieza’s reputation. But as it was pointed out to them before, it wasn’t as though it’s easy to replace someone with a very unique skill.
With a little sigh, they felt out of their element... as always, in this situation. ❝I’ve actually hadn’t been called all that much for a reading. When I do, I just... well, be professional about it. Give the possible timelines that were presented at his inquiry. Then I get to leave again.
So long as I do as I’m told and not even attempt to LIE... things are fine.❞

The look of disdain was hardly concealed, though the Icejin held a certain amount of curiosity all the same. With the reports from the drones, it had caught his attention purely on how few are left of their collective race.

.:saucy fanfiction:.
Clearly, someone thought that it was a great idea to break into Taiko’s private room and leave a neat pile of papers right on top of their bed while they were elsewhere (in truth just walking, half hoping for a sudden and brilliant idea to strike them). They hadn’t seen it right away, stepping inside and having the door closed while pulling the upper armor off over their head, but for now they’d leave the lower portion on, since it was basically similar as their old skirt.
They were just about to sit when their hand brushed against the papers. ❝What’s this..?❞ Who’d gotten into their room?? It... seemed that all the person did was leave this - everything else seemed to be left alone.
Already she was apprehensive as she picked it up - no title, nothing more than maybe fifteen pages. ‘Oh kai, is this...?’c
Crossing their legs as they sat on their bed, the blank front page was tentatively lifted to reveal the start of the story. ‘Who’d...’ They felt a loss for words even in their own thoughts as the story started right off with Taiko being invited to Frieza’s room, which already was foreboding to think about. ‘Who in this ship would write this..??’
They didn’t get far into this before the powerplay began and story-Taiko was pinned down by the confident emperor, and they were pretty much about ten shades of purple before pulling their eyes away. That was way more than enough. Porunga help them-
!!!!!
They were so caught between utter shock and disbelief that they hadn’t... realized that the door even opened.
❝You look about ready to pass out,❞ Frieza remarked, somewhat tetchy but more curious what was so attention-grabbing that his own presence was ignored. It was rewarding that the Namekian renewed his faith in their fear as they scrambled back on their own bed, the papers still in their lap. With the flick of his finger (much to the seer’s utter panic), the papers rose swiftly away from them and right into his hand.
❝M... m’lord... don’t... don’t read those...❞ Taiko tried to plea, which was kind of rare since that first meeting. But they’d quell at the glare given to them before he’d skim the words.
By the third or so page, those crimson eyes finally rose back up, coolly looking at the Namekian. ❝Where did you find this?❞
They’d just point at their own bed after a few seconds of hesitation. ❝H-here... I was taking a walk... S-so I don’t know w-who put it here.❞
❝Oh, I’ll find out whom it was. Rest assured.❞
‘That’s not assuring in the slightest...!!’ was all Taiko thought as the emperor left with the story still in hand, slightly crumpled in his grip.

.:saucy fanfiction:.
With the fanfiction shoved into his hands, Frieza couldn’t exactly retaliate with his usual attacks -- but his tail still swept out to attempt catching that anon by the leg. Done quite successfully, if he could say so for himself. It seemed that people kept forgetting that Namekians weren’t the only one that had stretchy limbs.
❝I will be severely displeased if this is yet another work made by the mind of the deprived.❞
Dangling the anon by the leg in the air, he’d flip through the pages, recognizing himself and his seer immediately - but what the hell is this?
❝That - really. The old monkey? Now why would he be part of this story?❞
Commentary made, the tail was tightening as he continued on. As suspected, this was indeed the lewd sort of story - what inane person, however, would want to write himself with EITHER of the parties, much less BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.
All that he could be thankful for, however, was that it wasn’t him the one servicing either. Curious though that they’d think the Namekian would - not that much was known about his kind, but it’s been rumored that they were known as one of the asexual race.
The story had lived for too long, and it would incinerate within his hand. Now it was for the other’s turn.
❝Disgusting.❞
