Deciding to go on a hiatus, was probably the hardest decision you had to take. It's not that you didn't want to stop, but as of right now you just couldn't. Mentally and physically, all of you were exhausted. After 5 years of touring, recording, and putting albums out, promoting, interviews and so and so. You just needed a minute to breathe. 

And you did it. You went on a looooong vacation, sleeping and tanning for most of the time. You also reconnected with your family, spent time with your friends, and just lived. You also needed this time off to discover yourself. Who were you ? You were not just the girl from the band, the 6th member, you were now a grown woman, with ideas and dreams. 

That is what you tried to put into your first solo album. Your growth, your story, your style..Your album « A Letter to Me » came out to the world. It was your baby, an homage to the boys, to your family, and your younger self, because you made it. But there is one thing that you were less excited about. THE PRESS. You knew you had to give interviews as part of the promotion for the album, but you were not excited about it. While you were in the band, it was fun. You were never alone, always with at least one of the boys if not all of them. You made jokes and you relied on each other. But now, you were going to have to face it all alone. The first week of the promo went by quickly you were excited. to perform for the fans, the journalists were nice enough, so it was a good start. But you knew it could change reallllllly quickly and boy you were right ! 

You were actually sitting in a hotel room, all dolled up and dressed for your last interview of the day. A man walked in and gave you a smile before sitting in front of you, and introducing himself. 

Hello Y/N, I'm Joe from People Mag. How are you ? 

Hi Joe, I'm good thanks how are you ? 

Good, shall we start ? 

Let's go.

The interview started pretty much like the others, with questions about the songs, and the album. He was insistent on your relationship status but stopped when. he saw you wouldn't give him the answer he wanted, and that's when the interview took a weird turn. 

"So, Y/N, you started your career while in the band One Direction". 

"Yes, I did"

"All of the members put out new music, album, and singles, and they are doing pretty well, do you think you would do as well as them ?" 

"Well, when you put out a project, you want it to do good. Like every time we put out an album with the band, we wanted the fans to like it. And now that I'm on my own, I have to say it's a little more stressful because it's only, and I don't know < how the fans will react to the styles and everything but it's also exciting to be able to do this. You said, avoiding the question about the boys, but he came back to it." 

"Because, and I don't mean to put any pressure on you, but Harry for example did really great with his album do you want to do better than him ?" 

"It's not a competition. You said, trying to keep a smile on your face. There is enough of that in the music industry. Every time one of the boys put out a song or any project, I'm the first to listen to it, and send my love. I know firsthand how talented they are, and I am extremely proud of Harry for putting together such a great album that he is proud of and that his fans are happy to listen to. Do I hope the fans like my album, sure, but I'm not here to try and sell more than my friends, it's not what I'm about." 

"Good for you Y/N, and I mean you probably won't have the same success as them anyway.."

That's when you started boiling inside. 

"And why is that ?" 

"Oh, I mean that you were just the girl of the band, and people were fans of the band and now that you are alone, you are just a girl in the industry.."

"So you think that because I don't have the boys with me now that I won't do good ?" 

"Yes exactly, I mean don't get me wrong you are stunning, but you cannot expect your career to be successful without the boys..."

"Let me stop you right there. I have been in the industry since I was sixteen, I have been writing songs since that age and I have also been performing since then. I was not just "a girl" in a band, I was a member just like any of the boys, I have given my all to this band just like them and I earned my success." 

"Yes but," 

"No no, I'm still speaking, Joe. I find your question, not only offensive to me, but to all the women in this industry. So because I started in a band and I am a woman it means that I am less talented or deserving ? I think that you are forgetting that some of the biggest names in this industry are women. Or do you not consider Beyonce, Rihanna, or Stevie Nick talented enough ? Or Arianna, Celine Dion, Adele, I could go on ! "

"I am not here to teach you a lesson on feminism, even though it is clear that you need one desperately. But let me tell you this. Putting this album out has been one of the hardest things I had to do in my career, because yes I am scared to start over alone. I don't expect the same level of success I had with the band, because what we did was extraordinary, it was insane. And if I'm honest, I'll be ok with not having the same success as a solo artist, because I actually experienced this kind of love and dedication already. I'll be fine not touring stadiums again or having my album at the top of the Billboard 100, because I already did it. I just want to make stuff that is right, that is fun, in terms of the process, that I can be proud of for a long time, that my friends can be proud of, that my family can be proud of, that my kids will be proud of one day. And if the boys managed to get the same success, I will be on the front row cheering and dancing my ass off." 

After that interview, you left, surrounded by your team. You knew people would talk about it, and everyone liked the drama, but you felt good about what you said. What you didn't expect was the number of celebrities reacting to it. Barely a day after the interview was put online your social media profiles were flooded with messages.

Louis posted a picture on his Instagram. Of you and him, surrounded by trophies won with the band over the year, the caption saying. 

@LouisTomlinson : For 5 years, I was lucky enough to work with a kind, talented and unbelievable singer, whom I get to call my little sister. She is not only an incredible performer but also a songwriter that has the talent to make me dance and cry with her lyrics. I am incredibly proud of her new album, and I know she will go far in this industry, so all your sexist ass can fuck off. I love you @y/n.

Niall addressed the interview during an instalive. "Yes I have seen, the interview, and all I can say is how proud of y/n I am. She is one of the most talented people I ever worked with and she deserves the world, so go listen to her album ! "

Liam's tweet was simple. @LiamPayne : So my sister has no talent ? #sheisnumber1 with a screenshot of your album at the number one spot. 

Zayn's reaction was a surprise to a lot of people. He didn't mention you in the tweet, but everyone knew he was talking about you. @Zayn : She's not afraid, she is shining. 

As for Harry, well mister mysterious posted a beautiful picture of you, on stage, in black and white. With a simple caption

Seeing larries kissing Louis' ass in his new post honestly just grosses me out. Do y'all not have any self-respect? Why are so many larries fine with being his punching bag, his scapegoat, being gaslit and manipulated, and having him add fuel to the larrie hate train? I love him too. But at some point, he has to realize this shit isn't okay. It's not okay to speak to your fans this way and disrespect them. To single one fan out. And to do it so publicly where the media can pick it up, where the solo louies & harries, antis, and gf stans can use it as ammunition against us. I can't even go on the pop culture subreddits I like bc of how badly the hate is against us. Not only was this a stupid fucking move before trying to sell tickets in LatAm but why in the world would you treat the fans who have stuck by you since the beginning this way? We've seen through the bullshit in both 1D and his solo career. We've seen through the false image that was painted of him, although now he seems more than happy to play along. We've tried to be there for both him (and H) because THEY made it very clear for YEARS that they were together, closeted, and fighting back. Look, I get it some larries are doing way too much with their theories esp the ones that think Louis, Harry, and T*ylor are all gay beasties who are going to bring down the industry together. But they started this shit. They encouraged fans to look deeper. They came up with the name Larry Stylinson, not us. They got the corresponding tattoos and made it very obvious, not us. Louis got the dagger. They did rbb and sbb, which really caused fans to start theorizing. Louis did the Spotify canvases that connected back to H and Larry. Louis did the promo (was it for Walls?) where we had to find the different locations, and they almost always had a Larry reference nearby (I know I didn't explain that example well). Louis specifically puts H and Larry references in his music that he knows we know about. He's the one that put out the Just Like You music video. He's the one that put Style on the wall of the Miss You video. They're the ones that continuously use blue and green lights. Louis specifically interacts with Larries and Larry related signs and flags at his show. I mean, the list goes on and on. So, if you want people to chill out on Larry, how about you stop feeding it? Because this whole back and forth is exhausting and mentally draining. I'm really fucking tired of being made the joke of this fandom by Louis when we've done nothing but see him for who he really is and love him for that. And now the harassment and death threats have skyrocketed from solos, hets, gf stans, stans of other fandoms, and people into pop culture. I'm tired of seeing mental health being used as an insult against us as well because Louis and Harry not only started this, they encouraged this behavior from larries for YEARS. And then you have people who used to be around them (from xf times) Rebecca and mainly Katie talking about how truly horrible XF, Syco, and Modest were. How truly manipulative. How horribly they treated everyone, esp the boys. I mean, she's even talked about how the boys still have some of the same people around them since the early days. I know she went after larries one time (maybe more bc I stopped listening to her after that), but she made sure to talk about them and basically say without saying that a lot of our theories about xf, management, and syco weren't far off. Others around them have played into Larry. So, why doesn't he tell them to stop. Like, stop going after fans for something you created and encouraged for years. Just ignore it until you're ready to come out, if that ever happens.

I do have a question. I know stunts suck and Harry has been stunting a lot. I know H*livia was extremely upsetting. But why do larries seem to get more people upset at Harry for doing a pap walk with T*ylor, or even the ones he did with OW where he was obviously miserable, then they do with Louis outright shitting on us - multiple times? I'd much rather see Louis have to do a pap walk or two with some girl than throw fans under the bus, you know what I mean? Because while stunting sucks, it's playing the Hollywood game and something they probably are required to do to uphold the het image. Choosing to shit on fans shouldn't even be on the table if we mean as much to you as you say.

Sorry for the rant and rambling. I'm just really hurt and have so many feelings and probably didn't express everything properly. I don't recognize this "Louis," and it's really put me off. I thought we were a team, and now I just feel completely unwanted by him.

I know this hurts, especially for those of you who haven't experienced this before. We shouldn't have to deal with this. I think most people are able to ignore it and move past it because they know he's closeted and why he's doing it. They know that Louis doesn't love them any less, despite what his public twitter account might suggest. We know he's got little agency and we know he's being made to do things against his will. We see past his image and actions.

I would prefer him stunting over lashing out against his fans too. Maybe that's not an option or maybe he didn’t have a choice. Either way it isn't okay. It wasn't okay in 2012 and it isn't okay now. The only thing we can do is stop supporting him and giving him our money. Some love him and want him to succeed, and fight with him against the chains holding him back. He won't be able to do that without larries. So they keep supporting him and live in hope that things will change for the better someday. It's up to you to decide what your limits are and what you can and can't support.

I saw another anti-AI post where the first words out of someone's mouth was "Plagiarism!" That is why it's so difficult to have reasonable discussions about these new tools--and how they be useful as tools--because people start screeching, "You're not a real writer!"

The article at the core of the post, however, is worth discussing because, yup, it is exactly what the antis are yelling about. The post, by the way, did not include a link to the article, just a screenshot of Publisher Weekly's Twitter promo of said article. Which is actually a rewrite of a Newsweek article about a man who was about to release his 97th ChatGPT-written "novel." I'll explain the quotes later on.

I've included a link to the original article because it's worth a read no matter what side of the argument you're on. The headline is absolutely clickbait. It's also full of self-aggrandizing bullshit.

Tim Boucher (the article is written by him, or, rather, 60% written by ChatGPT by his own admission) admits to making $2000 over the course of 7 months. Hardly the thousands of the headline. He's sold 574 books as of the article, which equals out to an average 5-6 copies per book, or an average of just under $21 per book. The books are 2,000 to 5,000 words each, so they're not really novels, but serial chapters. He is also, by the way, not selling on Amazon or any other distributor, possibly because some of the stories are too short for them to accept.

It also means he has an extremely small, niche audience who are interested in "dystopian pulp sci-fi with compelling AI world-building." He writes "majority of my readers being repeat buyers, many having bought more than a dozen titles. In one case, a reader has bought more than thirty titles."

I found this paragraph particularly illuminating:

"It's very difficult, for example, to have longer written pieces that maintain a coherent single storyline or character arc. So instead, I've tended to lean into short "flash" fiction slice-of-life collections, interspersed with fictional encyclopedia entries that deliver world-building and backstory, and point the reader towards other volumes where they can continue down the rabbit holes that appeal to them the most."

Right there is the issue with current LLM programs. You can get a coherent storyline and character arc with ChatGPT or Sudowrite, but it takes manipulation on the author's part. It takes being willing to put in the work to revise and massage the outlines. Dear god, don't use it to write scenes, because the quality of dialogue and description is horrendous.

This guy isn't. He's only willing to put in 6-8 hours to create and publish a book, which may include generating the cover and any brainstorming. What he is doing is the tech boy grift of inflating what the program is capable of and his own accomplishments. He's trying to shout, "I am a disruptor! I am the future!" (And taking a look at his website, he's also a conspiracy theorist about underground cities in Antartica.)

Sadly, this is exactly the type of person other tech bros who might be making decisions are going to listen to. And because he's publicity-hungry, he's making everyone else who is trying to use these tools to assist, not replace, the process look like a grifter as well.

Oh, and I can't help including this article written in response to the Newsweek one.

Now, I could be totally going off the deep end but the way Xanthe and Cassandra are in like a LOT of covers/promo art together feels a little fruity. Constantine is also in Spirit World but he's not nearly as featured as Xanthe and Cassandra and that MIGHT be because they're both Asian and the book comes out during AAPI Month, but it feels like we're meant to pay extra close attention to Xanthe and Cassandra's bond

Like...Maybe I'm off base but I just feel like In Spirit World it is revealed that Cassandra is attracted to Enbies/Women/Non-Men.

Also Xanthe being full of color and light and Cass being a gothemite and accustomed to the dark/shadows. That dynamic?? Cute.

lame answer: xanthe and cassandra are featured most prominently on the covers because spirit world is part of dc's we are legends line for asian heroes, and constantine is also there because magic. more cynical readers will say that cassandra is spirit world's bat-character, like city boy's is dick and the vigil's is jason (though these two are less incorporated into their respective titles), being used to sell issues.

'ello again! It's been a month! What happened to the stories? Well...

(explanation below the cut - tl;dr: writing has continued but I had to focus elsewhere and not original works here. I am trying to edit and publish the current roster on magazines to earn some money through my writing. Publishing on tumblr makes it impossible to submit for literary magazines. Might open a patreon/commissions too. Also the Signalis Zine release in two days oh boy 👀)

Truth be told, I've kept writing all that time since the last promised update! But I have not been writing short stories for the weekly challenge because I've hit a couple of snags with it.

The biggest issue is that all the stories uploaded here so far are completely unusable. They are original stories, and I could theoretically submit them to scifi magazines and be picked up for publication. Unfortunately, publishing them on tumblr means they are automatically excluded because these stories have already been published - and because most magazines want the exclusivity of publishing an author's story first before everyone else, this renders them nonpunishable.

This is very unfortunate, especially because I feel A Dance With My Clone and Sorry About The Inconvenience have potential and could be enjoyed by a much greater populace. They are some of my favourite pieces I've written this year, and I sadly cannot show them to a wider audience, not unless I aggressively advertise them online. I also cannot sell them and earn some money from them, because not gonna lie I'm still unemployed.

So, if I am to continue my writing endeavours, I had to refocus elsewhere. The Signalis fandom is wonderful, and I've had considered starting writing fics there, and I am currently an editor for ECHOS: The Silicon Queen fic, found over on AO3. Hanging and seeing people discuss Signalis over on socials has given ideas about some stories to tell in that universe as well, and I need to find the time to write them.

But, ultimately, I more want to tell my stories, and stories from my worlds. The Defilerverse is very dear to me; this is evident as at least 4 of the 6 shorts published thus far are connected to that universe, with Friends And Foes being the most explicitly connected one. I've been unable to really get people interested in this universe thus far sadly (I suck at self-promo lol), and it is hard to build a fandom for your original work on socials in general, especially when your original work is only available in text format. And I do not got that much money to spare so I cannot commission a piece for each short story I write.

So... what now?

Well, I reworked A Dance With My Clone into something bigger and better. I've not had success just yet into getting it accepted, but I feel I am on a good track and it's been growing into a bigger story. I do want to share more of it, but unfortunately I really cannot if I want to have any chances of publishing it around.

Besides that, I've gone back into working on the main trilogy. Defiler Draft 2 is currently on hold whilst Maiden Draft 1 is being written. If all goes well, that one should be finished by the end of the summer. It's been legitimately a lot of fun working on this book, and I might start sharing excerpts and scenes, but as of now it's suffice to say this has been the main focus of my writing.

On a positive note, in the next two weeks there will be two new shorts out from the Signalis Zine I participated in! One I have already shared an excerpt from - it concerns Lilith Itou and Alina Seo and the fighting on Vineta. The second concerns a Kolibri and the Imperial Spy on Rotfront.

I cannot promise as of yet that the shorts will return, but we shall see! I might open up commissions and do stories for folks but that needs research.

Alright, so since you asked for it, here is my little take on ✨them✨ for 2x05

I have to say, @the1northlanderprincess already did a great prediction post a couple days ago so I'm not sure what else I can add to all of that except that - yes, Thony is in the truck that Arman is driving when they're arrested by Garrett, and that the warehouse scene with Kamdar and Nadia is actually for 2.06 😉 (I had the reblog in my drafts but must have gotten distracted by life and forgot to keep writing - I wish I could stay in TCL's world but yeah lol)

So with the new promo, what we could say is that Arman is most likely going to shut down and try to take over the business (with Nadia most likely also pushing him..) to quickly get rid of Robert.

And just throwing that in there but I could see a "Arman *anxious pause* talk to me." at some point coming from Thony, because she knows him, and will know that there's more than just the need to get away from Kamdar - it's the need to get away from this life. (CHILLS. THEY ARE GIVING ME CHILLS.)

Alright, let's not lose ourselves in feels before the actual thing.

So Robert calls for Arman's cleaning lady and it's only when Thony cleans up the mess he made on Robert's orders that he'll finally "break down" (I don't know if you guys can see but I'm pretty sure he has TEARS), and open up about how hard it's becoming for him to actually hurt and kill people for no good reason other than just getting to stay alive. She reaches for his hand to check it (when I said that his bruises are only gonna get worse...), and with him showing that vulnerable side and his true self, she'll understand and make sacrifices to ✨SAVE HIS SOUL✨

Thony is getting deeper - and will do things that are against her principles - just to get him out of the darkness. Honestly, I have shipped many couples, but NONE came to that level, I don't think I'll ever understand how they're making us feel the way we feel but holy crap.

So..after agreeing but still possibly adjusting things to make the less harm possible by selling drugs, he explains it all to Nadia (who's not pleased - the scene with Thony watching them argue), and takes Thony on an motorcycle ride to get the drugs/truck.

Something I'd like to add too, is that I hope and think that Thony will be the one suggesting the deal and having the upper hand. With the information she has on Robert/Maya, I fully expect her to bring Maya up and dangle all of that in front of Garrett to convince him to look away and actually help ✨them✨ and himself bring Kamdar and Cortés down. And here starts their partnership based on shared informations instead of relying it all on threats coming from Garrett.

In this house we support OT5. And while I'm personally up harry's ass, i'm also so far up louis' ass. I love them both so so much and i'll fistfight rads and henries. It's up to personal opinion who anyone thinks is better amongst all the boys (in my own opinion they're all doing very different stuff so i can't compare them in the same bag) but harry does undoubtedly receive more promo and clout, because he has a more competent team and was really marketed above the rest even during 1D, but this is not his fault!!!

An image has been created for him and his promo team pushes it because it sells; he's always been sold as an object/brand. First the pretty boy/womanizer in 1D and now the larger-than-life rockstar. Harry Styles the dorky dude with lame jokes an obsession with green peas doesn't sell, so that's not what they push for the general public. For louis, they've crafted an image of him being TOO genuine and TOO normal and a bit like a jackass/cool bloke that is also not true AND it doesn't even sell well. If anything, we constantly complain about louis' team sucking ass and not promoting him like they should. If louis could present his real, wise, caring, quirky flamboyant self he would also probably attract more sales. Anyways here we love harry and louis, come hang out!

I'm just starting to get into Harry Styles' music (obsessed with Falling) and when I browsed Tumblr I came across quite a bit of drama in the former 1D fandom when it comes to which one is the best solo artist. Louis-centric blogs, especially, talk shit about Harry and I was wondering if you're feeling up to telling me about what the beef is? 👀 (They were calling him fake etc)

hahahahaha that's totally okay! Ummm, I would say that you’re following the wrong people if you’ve made your way to the rad side of tumblr. The beef is that they think that - somehow - Harry is sabotaging Louis’ career/personal life. (*HEAVY Sarcasm here*) Clearly, this twenty-six year old man is the puppet master in the industry at large and all shady behind the scenes happenings in his former bandmate’s careers are his fault. Conversely, if you hang out with a lot of harries, you’re gonna see a lot of shit about Louis and the other boys. As well as a lot of really gross things about H himself. :(.

Louis is my personal fav for A LOT of reasons, but the primary one is that he has, for the last ten years, been fighting for the right to tell his own stories and be himself and he has NEVER ONCE stopped or backed down, regardless of how difficult it has gotten. HOWEVER! If you go through my blog, you’re gonna see that I LOVE H, as well as Liam! I think H tells stories in such a unique and nuanced way such that they are always both a reflection of him and a reflection of the moment in which he wrote it AND of the person they are about.

I REALLY recommend hanging w some of the crew I see on my dash because they are AMAZING people! If you want to catch up w some fandom history, @tellmethisisnotlove has A LOT of masterposts and history lessons and can take you through this band from the beginning to the end. The blog I was talking about earlier, @1ddiscourseoftheday​ has a daily rundown of what’s going on every single day, and the admin is a super cool human!
