Jet knew it would probably mean the end of them if they were caught. They knew Umbrella would not be so forgiving to catch them sneaking around - getting into places where they weren't given access to. And they knew they would either be used for experimentation or killed if Umbrella found out what they were planning, but...
They couldn't risk giving up on that, either. Not when Sev had been attacked. Not when they knew it could only be a matter of time before Umbrella decided their brother, or even both of them, were better lab rats than security. And while it would've been easier to sneak out with Sev on the claim they were on a mission...
They couldn't leave someone else behind.
It wasn't like they knew Matt personally. They never met him before, or had any reason to care, but... they knew he was being experimented on. Knew he was being tortured... and they couldn't leave him behind. It would eat at their conscience if they did.
And as stealthily as they could, Jet crept through the many halls of the Hive - ducking out of sight of any Umbrella agent they heard or saw, and kept moving. They already told Sev to wait for them, and while their brother wasn't quite right... they knew he'd listen, and knew once they got Matt, they would need to get out of there as fast as they could. Come hell or high water, they were determined to get the hell out of there.
It took a couple of tries, but they finally relocated the lab Matt was held in, and slipped inside. Their heart racing at the strange mixture of sterilization and disease, and at the fear of possibly becoming infected themself, despite InGen's insistence that they and their brother were supposed to be immune. But they did their best to ignore that fear, and quickly got to Matt's side - offering a crooked grin as they cocked their head. "Ask questions later, 'kay?" they said, and began to work at his restraints. "We're, uh, getting the hell outta here, so get ready."
Matt had lost his fear a long time ago. Now he was just angry. He had no idea how long he'd been in this laboratory without any clear indication of time, but he was already thoroughly over it and wanting to leave. The problem was that, every time he thought an experiment was wrapping up, the researchers just came up with more things to try with him. Were they just going to keep him here forever? Until what... he died? Sadly, possible death was probably the least of his problems right now.
It was boring, in between tests, to just lie there strapped to an operating table. It was also infuriating, because Matt had nothing but time to think about what an injustice all of this was. So... he took to yelling out his frustrations. "Come on! What are you waiting for?! If you're gonna torture me, then do it! Just get on with it, already!" Matt yelled in an angry growl. The long periods where he was just left alone were so maddening, because his mind ran away with all the possibilities of what might happen when the scientists returned...
Today, however, he heard someone enter the room and then just... not do anything? He heard shuffling, but no one addressed him or came directly over to where he was at first. That was weird. When someone finally did come over to him and speak, Matt got startled and stared in bewilderment. His mouth opened to ask any number of questions, but upon being told to save them for later, he agreed. "Yeah... sure..." he said, uncertain but optimistic.
Who was this person and how the hell did they even get in here? Matt didn't overly care because they had said they were getting out of here and were proceeding to cut his restraints, so how bad could they be? Matt struggled as the other tried to free them, helping the process along. Once one arm was free, he could reach around and undo some of the other restraints. "Thanks. I really we you one," he said, hopping off the table and crouching down to keep out of sight. "Do you know the way out of here?"

Available RP Verses for Matt/Nemesis
{out of mutations} Below the cut are all the possible verses for Matt and Nemmy. None of these are super rigid, they’re just meant to give people an idea of the points at which they can be rped, and to help me with tag organization.
Tumblr media
MATT
{ locked in like lab rats } ʰⁱᵛᵉ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - This verse will take place inside the Hive and during the evens of Resident Evil (2002). Your muse could be breaking into it with him after the virus was released, or they could already be in the Hive for some reason, an employee or a research test subject, and survived the outbreak when Matt arrives.
{ research and development } ˡᵃᵇʳᵃᵗᵒʳʸ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - This verse takes place after Matt is taken from the Hive and brought to the medical research facility in Raccoon City Hospital. He may be altered with the virus or through surgery but still is in his human form and has not yet mutated into Nemesis. Your muse could either work at the facility or be an experimental prisoner there too and somehow come across Matt. Escape plans and various other shenanigans will likely ensue, heh.
{ catch me if you can } ᶠᵘᵍⁱᵗⁱᵛᵉ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - Matt escapes from the medical research facility before he is fully mutated into Nemesis and is on the run from Umbrella. He will have some issues with mutating and other viral “powers,” but for now he stays human. This is a flexible verse that can exist pretty much anywhere and Matt can run into your muse however we want.
{ so where are you from? } ᶜʳᵒˢˢᵒᵛᵉʳ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - This verse is reserved for crossovers with muses from other fandoms, and can involve melding aspects of the muses’ two worlds or taking one of them and placing them into the other’s world. This verse can be set during one of the above verses, but may not follow the plot of the movies depending on how the different fandoms have been combined.
NEMESIS
{ nemesis program activated } ˡᵃᵇʳᵃᵗᵒʳʸ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - This verse would be the continuation of Matt’s laboratory verse, but by this time, he has been mutated into Nemesis. Again, your muse could either work at the facility or be an experimental prisoner there too and somehow come across Nemesis.
{ evolutionary dead end } ᵃᵖᵒᶜᵃˡʸᵖˢᵉ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - This verse would take place in Raccoon City during the events of Resident Evil: Apocalypse. The T-virus has escaped from the Hive via the R.C. Hospital and has spread out into the city. Umbrella has locked the city down and abandoned civilians and their own paramilitary inside its walls. They are about to nuke the city to cover up and contain the outbreak. In the midst of this, Nemesis is deployed to test his effectiveness as a hunter and obedience as a soldier. Your muse could work for Umbrella and maybe be Nemmy’s handler, or your muse could be a civilian, police, or even Umbrella paramilitary who might run into him in the city. Nemesis would be under Umbrella’s control, but that control can be broken in various ways.
{ s.t.a.r.s..... } ᵍᵃᵐᵉ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - This verse would use Nemesis from the Resident Evil 3 remake game. It can involve the events of the movie as well, but mostly this version of Nemesis will have multiple forms. First form is like the movie version, and second form is larger, more armored, spikier, and often walks/runs on all fours. Third form is that huge amorphous blob thing that filled up a whole room, so I probably won’t be using that one haha, but second form is a big possibility. This verse can also just include more game locations and plot, if your muse is a game muse vs. a movie muse.
{ dead man walking } ʷᵃⁿᵈᵉʳⁱⁿᵍ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - Just prior to Raccoon City being “sanitized” by a PTNW (precision tactical nuclear weapon), Nemesis is struck by a crashing helicopter. He is knocked unconscious and then nuked, heh, but the metal from the helicopter shielded enough of his head such that he could regenerate his body. It takes time, but once it happens, he is able to simply walk out of the ruins of the city. This is a versatile verse too because he can go anywhere, for any reason, with anyone... maybe with your muse.
{ back underground } ʳᵉᵗʳⁱᵇᵘᵗⁱᵒⁿ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - This verse would take place in Kamchatka, Russia, in Umbrella’s underwater research and testing facility. This facility has hyper-realistic simulations of cities and towns as well as human beings, for the purpose of testing how use of their viruses as weapons would pan out. Nemesis having been recaptured by Umbrella, has been once again placed under their forced control and would be one of the “biohazards” the Red Queen A.I. could release during simulations or to hunt down intruders. Your muse could work at the facility and maybe hate the way Nemmy is treated, or your muse could be a prisoner or infiltrator who comes across him.
{ i know i’m a monster } ᶜʳᵒˢˢᵒᵛᵉʳ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - This verse is reserved for crossovers with muses from other fandoms, and can involve melding aspects of the muses’ two worlds or taking one of them and placing them into the other’s world. This verse can be set during one of the above verses, but may not follow the plot of the movies depending on how the different fandoms have been combined.
SPECIAL VERSE FOR MATT / NEMESIS
{ winged justice } ᶜʳᵒʷ ᵛᵉʳˢᵉ - This verse is a crossover between Matt’s/Nemesis’ storyline in the movies/games and the mythology of The Crow movie universe. It’s either for Matt or for Nemesis with Matt as a starting point before his mutations, either in the Anderson movie world or the RE3-related game world. So either Matt dies and is raised by The Crow spirit, or Nemesis dies and comes back in the form of Matt. From there, the verse would take place either in the RE movie or game worlds but would include the mechanics and lore of The Crow universe.
Tumblr media
I’ll primarily be taking my inspiration from The Crow: Salvation, since Matt’s actor (Eric Mabius) is in the title role in that movie, but the functionality, motivations, and methods of “The Crow” in general will apply. Basically, either Matt dies in the laboratory or elsewhere, Nemesis is killed after the “sanitation” of Raccoon City in the movie verse, or he’s killed after mutating into this third form and being defeated in the game verse. Either way, he wakes up in the aftermath of Raccoon City’s demise as Matt and is thoroughly confused and traumatized. As memories and emotions come flooding back to him, he’s filled with the spirit of justice and vengeance that is The Crow, and with its help, he hunts down major players and facilities belonging to the Umbrella Corporation, all in the name of setting things right... or at least making sure things don’t get any worse.
What is his cause and why has The Crow raised him from the dead? He wants justice for himself, for his sister Lisa, and for all those murdered by Umbrella’s careless and greedy practices, particularly some members of the Sanitation team he lived that night of horror with in the Hive. He was written off as a foolish hippie and a trespasser who got what he deserved as a human and was treated like a dumb, subhuman animal as Nemesis, dehumanized and stripped of his identity and dignity as a person. Several Umbrella employees were blamed for the Hive incident as well as part of Umbrella’s coverup of the situation. So he wants those responsible for all these deaths, including his own, to pay with their lives, and to set the record straight with regard to the reputations of those used as scapegoats by the Corporation.
Matt could appear at any facility, be found in the wreckage of Raccoon, be encountered out on the road somewhere or in a random building... anywhere where he might be infiltrating and/or attacking Umbrella personnel or properties. This verse is pretty versatile, so as long as Matt is on that path to vengeance against Umbrella, your muse can aid him, join up with him, etc.
For those unfamiliar with The Crow: The basic concept is that someone dies in a state of extreme sadness, violence, and injustice, and the strength of all that emotion and the gravity of the plight of the dead summons The Crow spirit. In some mythologies, crows or ravens are said to be the ghostly, winged spirits of the dead. In others, crows and ravens can be a portent of death. In reality, crows and ravens are often characterized as dark scavengers who linger around the dead to consume them. So there is a lot of symbolism with regard to The Crow figure and dealing with the spirits of the dead.
In the movie franchise, The Crow is a nebulous sort of spirit who chooses dead victims who have unfinished business with regard to getting justice for themselves and loved ones. The Crow will raise this person from the dead, keeping them in a state that lingers between life and death, until their unfinished business is completed and they can rest. They appear alive, but that’s after they’ve clearly been observed by others to be dead. Mortal injuries can no longer harm/kill them and they are essentially invincible/immortal for the duration of their quest for vengeance. They are usually stronger, faster, more knowledgeable, more confident, and often darker and more violent than they were in life, and it’s all geared towards hunting down and punishing those who wronged them and their loved ones. Once that vengeance is carried out, the person can finally permanently die and rest in peace.
The Crow spirit, appearing honestly as more of a raven sometimes than a crow (larger and with a different wingspan and tail shape, so I guess meant to be a supernaturally large crow?), will help their chosen undead person to carry out their vengeance and bright to light the crimes of others that resulted in their death and the deaths of people they cared about. Usually it’s not just about punishing and exposing the wrongdoers, but also about exonerating and/or repairing the reputation of the deceased as well. The Crow will lead them places, evoke buried emotions and memories, or show them visions if they touch objects like personal items, photographs, or walls/furniture from living spaces. They will generally guide their chosen charge to the information and people they need to seek out in order to put the pieces of the puzzle together and figure out why they and their loved ones were killed and who is responsible. If they already know who is responsible, or they’ve figured it out, the objective becomes to expose the details an depth of their criminality, immorality, deception, etc. and sometimes even to make them feel the suffering of those they’ve killed before they themselves are killed.
In a nutshell, the dead person brought back to life is like a vengeful spirit, an angry ghost, a wronged soul, and/or a martyr figure, depending on the story of the particular person and the lore/mythology you believe in. The Crow, then, is like the “Power That Be,” the god/deity, the guardian angel, or the spirit guide that takes the dead person under their wing (no pun intended, heh) and “sponsors” them for a time, giving them the supernatural means to vindicate themselves and get justice for them and their lost loved ones, an opportunity they did not have in life. The boxes that must be checked in order for The Crow to take notice of you are that you were unjustly killed, had your reputation dragged through the mud, lost someone else very close to you as well who was killed by the same people who killed you, and you had to have died in a state of extreme emotion and suffering. The righteous cause of the deceased combined with the potent emotions felt at the time of death are what invokes The Crow and attracts it to want to raise and assist the person.
