The 4 main characters and Shira's pack are two different generations. Shira became leader of the wolves alongside her mate, Wolfram when the former chief died. Kahlan is her sister and Enid is a wolf from the pack. The events surrounding this saga are important to the development of the second one (the timeline in which the 4 live) but are huge spoilers. The four are very young or not even born here.

The four friends try to fix what went wrong in the past in the second part of the story. They are like teens here.

The third part sees them grown up and facing the consequences of part 2.
