I see NOBODY talking about out local dwarf.
Look at him. He looks so terrified about the sole thought of his new friends meeting the one creature that ate all his friends before. He doesn't want to loose this guys. They're far too young. He himself was around their ages [relatively, Chil's out of this but he doesnt get it] when it all happened.
Oooh he panicking. He terrified now. His friends are going to die eaten alive. He just knows it. He can't see that happen. He doesn't... he can't. He's going to get killed. They're all going to get killed. Just like last time. PTSD hitting hard here.
OH THE SCREAMS. THE FUCKING SCREAMS. *cheffkiss*
He sounds so blinded by fear. SO TERRIFIED.
Listen to it in English and japaneese, i heard all the others, not as good. The English VA left his lungs in the studio I just know it. Same for japaneese.
This is the face of a man that knows he's met his fate.

Do you have any recommendations for books that are similar to acod?
Unfortunately, not really. I and others are on the hunt for them, though!
Primary one so far is The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir--the style of "fuck you knowing who the hell the mc/narrator is is a privilege not a right" is strong there. Similar in how drastically different events/understanding is at the beginning vs the end. Delightful science fantasy story. like acod you WILL be confused
On a related note: this is a list of books similar to TLT, so by extension you may find something there worth reading/similar to acod?
And I have yet to read him for myself, so this might be off, but I've heard good things about Ken Liu's books? About the plot and character complexity. Personally have been meaning to start the Dandelion Dynasty
Also if you're willing to branch out of books, I know I rec it a lot, but Black Sails (to me) has a similar vibe. It's not fantasy, but the layers to every action, the secrecy, the reveals, the character depth and how everyone overlaps and clashes with each other. Very compelling
I wish I could give you more! since acod i've been wanting to find more like it, but it is a process--we will get there, though!

**negative body-image & dysmor/phor-ia below**
it's gonna be 80 degrees here today (~26C for my non-farenheiters) and I was just planning on wearing leggings and a tshirt to go to campus and study, but then I was like idk! maybe a skirt or dress would be nice to wear on this hot day! it's been a while 🤔 and now im sitting on my bed, palms sweaty (mom's spaghetti), suffering from a bout of body dysmorphoria (body dysmorphia & dysphoria combo-platter), and feeling rly sad cuz the skirt feels so nice but im self conscious and overwhelmed 😮💨
anyway.

To try and get outta my writing slump I started writing stuff for Lacy and well,,,, when y'all find out who's on the other line 👀 girl has all the right or wrong?? connections...
Shifting her position so she wasn’t slumped in the bath, she instead leans an arm on the side of the tub and sets her chin on the damp skin. “You may enter.”
The door opens just a sliver, not enough for whoever is disturbing her peace to see anything untoward, and a meek voice slips through. “Pardon the intrusion, ma’am, but you have a phone call on line one.”
“Very well. Put them on hold for now.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
