a scoff slips past his lips, though was there even an attempt to hide it? probably not. then again, diluc is right. kaeya would rather take on the pains of those he wants to than face his own burdens and pain. grabbing the glass in front of him, he lets out a sigh as he sips the red wine.

"other people deserve a chance of happiness, diluc. i don't care what happens to me... no one realistically does."

every undertone that was laced in was a whirlwind of conflict to the ears, though none need to hear this inferring of the wanderer's emotions. those cards he shall keep close to his chest, no matter how truthful or incorrect they are, it is still something to fall back to in the future to gain any different insight. right now, however, this is not their topic of discussion. future interactions are that, the future, right now, their shared lack of respect and adoration for archons was.

which leads him to the new issue, the spotlight on him. how many lies can he whirl in with truths to make it seem genuine enough that he didn't twist anything. a deep breath, this is going to be a ride and a half, letting the signature smirk take a hold and charm ooze out.

❝  no  kidding.  ❞  and  though  BITTERNESS  may  bleed  from  every  syllable,  there's  an  undercurrent  of  grim  amusement  —  as  if  part  of  him  truly  does  delight  in  hearing  the  deduction  (  the  criticism  )  spill  from  lips  other  than  his  own.  to  be  entirely  honest,  he  doesn't  HATE  his  creator  —  although,  there  are  times  where  the  wanderer  so  fervently  wishes  that  were  the  case.  hatred  is  easy,  after  all.  it's  simple  —  a  wildfire  than  burns  away  everything  unfortunate  enough  to  stumble  into  its  path.  more  than  anything  else,  he  merely  craves  her  acknowledgement ...  yet  it  seems  even  than  simple  wish  is  too  much  for  his  creator  to  entertain.  or  rather,  it  was  —  he's  no  doubt  his  own  actions  have  rendered  it  IMPOSSIBLE  by  now.

it wasn't meant to end this way, not that kaeya was complaining. stuck in fontaine finding answers and methods to dismantle the fatui behind everyone's backs, including his own father. but here he is, stuck with the eleventh and very much busting him out of his situation with some abyssal powers, no one needed to know how or why they exist. does he have feelings for the other? perhaps. it might be the abyss in their systems recognising the other as a kindred soul in some twisted capacity.

sitting by the fire and staring at it, he was tempted to depart and continue his plan to spite the father he never got the chance to have, yet it was the request from childe to stay that made him second guess his temptation and he instead glanced over to him.

"you want me, the smoothest talker in mondstadt, to stay with the snezhnayan menace? hm... you know, i have nothing else better to do. fine, i'll stay, we can chat." he agrees, it might turn interesting after all.

is there still pride in kaeya for making mikhail have to move him and sit him down on what both could argue is the true throne? always. he doesn't complain, doesn't make it harder for the tsar to move him. he just remains ever smug as he leans back to rest his head on the other's shoulder and hummed.

"maybe i did, maybe i didn't. maybe i just wanted a comfy seat, getting you was the bonus. regardless on what i want, how was your little business?"

the hand shook as he realised just what was being said, and kaeya couldn't help but lower his sword and aimed it at the ground instead.

"diluc... you're an individual, not crepus' clone. you do not see me chasing my father's footsteps, no one ever expected us to follow either of them, and no one ever expects a child to blindly follow their parent. crepus wanted us to stick together, to work together and protect mondstadt, not follow him into corruption! did you and him... ever discuss you taking his seat in the fatui...?" he breathed out in fear, it made no sense to him.

he tilts his head back at the sword pointed to his throat, eyes narrowed. he tries to keep his calm, but he can't contain the swelled anger and grief at kaeya's wish for the alternate path.

"another path? there is no other path! this is what he wanted me to do!" he finally snaps, "who am i to question father's choices for me? he wanted this for me, he taught me all i know so that i'd be prepared to take his role when it was time. you know nothing." his own tears sprung, desperation rolling through.

this was not the reunion either of them hoped or expected, to be frank. his memory of an uncle was so fragile and small, it would make sense he forgot it existed most of the time. yet, seeing the iudex of fontaine there, the cavalry captain paled ever so slightly. he reminds him of his father, and it sinks in his stomach at how little he truly knew of his family.

“monsieur neuvillette, was it?” he masks the fear and knowledge, he had to. they’re not the same people as they were in khaenri’ah, those people died centuries ago. “you would be right, though this is no business trip for me, simply a small vacation away from work.” he explains, afraid of what their conversation could turn to.

to see kaeya in fontaine was unexpected . in fact, seeing kaeya at all was unexpected in itself . he hadn't seen the boy in over five hundred years . he had left when kaeya was merely six years old . seeing him brought upon guilt , remorse , and longing for his home .

" you . . . " look just like your father , he wanted to say , but if he knew anything from his private network , he knew that the two were at odds just as himself and ulrich were . " you must be kaeya . i was informed you would be visiting . " he covered up .
