"Dad?" the nurse said quietly making his tearful gaze avert to the woman who had now helped deliver both of his babies, "since mum is resting now, It's heavily recommended that Fathers do skin-on-skin within the first hour of her birth," she smiled and finished filling out her charts before exiting the room to give him some privacy.

Quinn placed the baby down in the bassinet as he stripped himself of his sweater, "ooh, hot baby daddy" Honey mumbled tiredly under her breath as Quinn leaned over her bed and placed a kiss on her temple. "You should be sleeping," he scolded quietly as he picked the infant back up, ridding Hayden of her blanket and holding her up against his chest. "And miss the strip show? Boring" she whispered as she positioned herself to get a better sight of the baby.

Quinn sat back in the uncomfortable recliner chair, his fingers gently playing with the tuft of blonde curls on the baby's head. A sleepy smile on Hayden's face as her tiny fingers wrapped around his, face pressing deeper against his skin as her eyes fluttered open to look at her father for the first time in her life.

"Hi baby girl," he whispered as Hayden yawned, her hand squeezing his finger gently as her eyes shut, "you're so loved already," he looked up at Honey, admiring how flawless she looked in the moment, tears in her eyes and a sappy smile on her face as she watched her husband and daughter's first bonding moment.

"You kinda look like your uncle Luke, but cuter, which means he is going to be the absolute worst about this," Honey laughed quietly at that comment, knowing just how insufferable Luke is going to be, and how pouty Jack is gonna be that knowing neither his nephew or niece look like him. "And both sets of grandparents are waiting at home for you, Nana Ellen has been obsessively buying you clothes all year" The baby let out a soft murmur as she felt the vibrating of Quinn's chest as he laughed at the memory of his mom showing up with a separate suitcase just for her new grandbaby. "And Warren," he paused for a second to think about all of the moments in the past few months when Warren had been talking to his baby sister, waiting for the day she'd finally be here, "he's so excited to get to meet you, he's going to adore you" Quinn now had tears in his eyes as he whispered some more to his daughter.

“Oh, darlin', don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up It could stay this simple, I won't let nobody hurt you, won't let no one break your heart”

Honey and the two kids trailed into the kitchen, smiles on all of their faces as they told her about their days at school while unpacking their lunch kits.

"And look what he made me!" Hayden grinned as she pulled out a scribbled drawing of her and a boy with a heart around them, Honey's face softened as she looked at the blush on her daughter's cheeks. "He? Who's he?" Quinn asked walking into the kitchen to see the drawing that shed had been rambling about from the school's parking lot all the way to their front door. "Ryan C." she pointed at the little messily written name in the left-hand top corner of the printer paper.

Quinn's brows furrowed as he held the paper in his hands and scoffed at it, "no boys, too young for boys" he said finally with his arms crossed over his chest as he placed the paper back down on the counter. "It's just an innocent crush Quinn" His wife laughed at his scowl. "Boys are yucky, gross, and no good for my little girl," he said matter-of-factly as he kissed his wife and then pressed a sloppy kiss to his daughter's cheek who pouted at him.

The little blonde frowned at her dad as she looked at the carefully crafted picture this little boy made just for her, "stop trying to grow you're gonna give me a heart attack," and with that last sentence, he left the kitchen to help Warren get ready for hockey practice.

Honey smiled softly at her daughter, her fingers going up to her lips motioning for her daughter to stay silent just until Quinn was in the garage, "Ryan C. can be our little secret, okay sweetheart?" she asked watching as Hayden's face broke out into a much happier smile and extended her arms out to hug her Mom's legs.

“You're in the car on the way to the movies, and you're mortified your mom's droppin' you off At fourteen, there's just so much you can't do, and you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots”

Hayden's childhood had come and gone in the blink of an eye, her angsty teen phase rolling in at full speed.

Honey sat in her car with Hayden anxiously in the backseat, "You'll call me when the movie is done right?" "Yeah Mom," Hayden said quietly, watching as Ryan, her everlasting childhood crush walked out his front door, "please don't embarrass me when he gets in here, I might die," she said desperately as she looked out the car window to see the blushing boy approaching the car.

"Hey Ryan, how's mum?" Honey asked the boy as she looked back at him to make sure he was buckled in. "She's good, just getting home from work," he smiled awkwardly as he looked at Hayden, face broken out in a smile as she smiled back at him.

Honey couldn't bare the noise of tension filling the car, the silence became suffocating, and then she turned on the radio to drown out the never-ending awkwardness. The woman looked through the rearview mirror to see the young boy staring at her daughter, Ryan admiring her as she stared out the window. His hand inching towards hers, pinky finger intertwining with Hayden's, the curly-headed girl turned to look down at their hands, cheeks blazing red as she looked back up at him with a shy smile.

"We are here," Honey smiled as she parked the car right out in front of the theatre, "have fun you two." "Thank you, Mrs. Hughes," the young boy said as he got out of the car. "Thanks, Mum," Hayden said as she leaned into the front seat and hugged her mom before getting out of the car and waving her mom off.

“Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room, memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home Remember the footsteps, remember the words said, and all your little brother's favourite songs I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone”

Hayden sat silently on her bed, taking in that this was one of the last times she was ever going to sit in her own childhood room and it actually be full of her own personal things.

"Oh my god Hayd, look what I found" Quinn grinned as he dug into the back of her closet, a grin on his face as he pulled out her first-ever figure skating dress. Honey pouted as she took the tiny nylon outfit out of Quinn's grasp, "You were so tiny and so cute" she said holding up the little pink frilly suit, the woman looked up at her daughter who sat staring at the empty yellow walls.

"Hayd?" Quinn called out, pulling her attention to her parents sitting on the clothes-covered floor as they organized her things for her big move to university, "you okay sweetheart?" She shrugged, "I feel like I should be crying or something," she mumbled, sliding off of the bed and next to her mom on the floor. "It's overwhelming, I felt the same way you did when dad and I started school, I cried my entire first night there" Honey whispered as she pulled her daughter into a side hug, "but nana and grandpa are only an hour away if you need them," she said softly as she pressed a kiss to her daughter's temple.

"I was so nervous my first week, I had mom there, but I also had no idea what I was walking into" Quinn started, a frown on his face as he picked up a framed family photo off of her bedside table and placed it in her suitcase, "but you're gonna have so much fun," he opened his arms as his little girl shuffled her way over, falling right into his hold.

And at that moment it really hit Quinn, he had no more babies, his babies were now grown adults, living their own separate lives from him. "Are you crying?" Hayden asked as she sat up and looked at her dad who was in fact teary-eyed. "Uh no?" Hayden's bottom lip wobbled as she fell into her dad's frame once again and squeezed him, a sob leaving her mouth as he held her against him, hand rubbing over her back, cradling the back of her head as she cried into him.

"Thank you for everything you've given me" she whispered as Honey joined in on hugging her.

“So here I am in my new apartment, in a big city, they just dropped me off It's so much colder than I thought it would be, so I tuck myself in and turn my nightlight on”

Warren dropped the last box of her things on the floor of her dorm, "thank you," she smiled at her brother as he looked down at his phone. "Are you gonna be okay if I leave now? Hockey initiation stuff for the frosh is happening tonight and I have to be there," he showed her his phone which was currently blowing up with texts. "Yeah I'll be okay," she smiled and pointed at the open door, her brother climbed over the pile of boxes and hugged his little sister, "You call me if you need me okay?" The girl nodded and pulled away from her older brother, "promise," she said shooing him out the door so she could start organizing her room.

She sat silently, staring at the posters she successfully hung up on the walls, a proud smile on her face as she looked at the small shelf and bedside table she built all on her own. The blonde looked out her dorm window to see people partying in the streets, frosh week in full effect as she sat on the edge of her bed in pyjamas.

Her emotions lowered as she sat in a ball on her freshly made bed, tears rolling down her cheeks as she turned on a movie on her laptop and cried at the happy noises just outside her door.

“Please try to never grow up Oh, oh, don't you ever grow up Oh (never grow up), Just never grow up”

"Daddy?" Hayden whispered, cries leaving her throat as a half-asleep Quinn picked up his phone. "Hayd, what's wrong babygirl?" the sleep left his body as he listened to her sniffles on the other end. "I need to come home, I don't think I'm ready to be grown yet" she whispered, her throat horse from crying.

Quinn sat up in bed and held the phone closer to his ear, "I know it seems like so much Hayd, but you are so strong, you are so ready for this next chapter" he said lowly, not wanting to wake up or alarm his sleeping wife right next to him. "My first night of uni I was so lonesome for home that I called Uncle Jack and made him drive all the way to Umich just to spend the night with me in my tiny little dorm bed, Uncle Josh still has not let me forget about it." "I just- I do not know how to make friends, and I'm all alone, I'm not ready to be alone" she cried harder, "I'm just not ready for this."

Quinn frowned, wanting nothing more than to be able to be at her doorstep just to hold her and tell her that everything was going to be fine. For the past eighteen years of this little girl's life, Quinn had done everything within his power to stop anything from hurting his little baby. And now he had no control over her life or even a way to fix it for her.

"Baby, I'm so proud of you, and I hope you know that you really can do this," he said, her breathing becoming more even as she listened to him, "just get some sleep, and remember that you worked your ass off for this, and if anyone is more ready for this next chapter it's you."

The girl wiped her eyes, her sleeve soaked with tears as she nodded, "I love you so much Hayd, you're going to be just fine, okay?" he said firmly. "Thank you, Dad, I love you too" her voice still shaky, but the tears halted. "I'm always a call away, and I'll answer whenever you need me, okay baby," he said tearfully now. "I know." "Good, now get some rest, and call me in the morning when you wake up," he whispered before she hung up.

Quinn put his phone back down on his bedside table and laid back down, pulling his wife into his chest, and burying his face in her neck, "I can't believe our babies are all grown up" he whispered. "I hate it," she mumbled, his hand wrapping around her waist as her fingers intertwined with his, "the house feels too empty."

"Wanna move to Michigan?" he whispered jokingly. "Yes actually," she whispered back, "but we can talk about that in the morning," she said tiredly as he placed a short kiss on her bare shoulder.

I totally wrote the ending of this based on my first night in uni and cried the entire time I was writing it, cause everything Quinn said was exactly what my dad said while I was crying on the phone with him.
