I know I missed International Asexuality Day yesterday, but this is the prime opportunity for me to tell you all now that Salza (or at least, my version of him) is aromantic-asexual. He is completely uninterested in a romantic relationship, content with the close bonds he has with his team, and is a sex-repulsed asexual.
For that matter, nobody on the Armored Squadron is heterosexual. Dore is a masc-leaning bisexual, and Neiz is demisexual and homoromantic. They also happen to be not-so secret boyfriends, since it would be inappropriate for colleagues to be in a relationship and all. It's pretty much an open secret though, and Cooler knows, he just doesn't care as long as they don't let it affect their duties.
#[musings; hidden depths]#[pto; armored squadron]#[I never could ship Cooler/Salza romantically]#[I have my own headcanons about the depth of their relationship]#[but also I love the idea that Salza is the closest thing Cooler has to a best friend]#[because they both radiate “cultured” (nerdy) theater kid energy]#[with a touch of repressed goth for Cooler]#[also yes I am back on my Dore/Neiz propaganda train]#[you can try prying them from my cold dead hands]#[they are boyfriends you can't stop me]

🌠
Someone genuinely seeking friendship in Salza, especially other PTO members, Armored Squadron, Frieza Force, or otherwise. It’d be really nice for him to have someone besides Cooler to have reliance in, TBH. Salza doesn’t really do friendship ( more of everyone annoys him and he doesn’t know how to make friends ), so it’d be a bit of effort, but once he has some understanding that he’s allowed to feel safe and comfortable on occasion, he is a rather loyal friend.

Cooler and Salza
Salza: You’re giving me a sticker? Cooler: Not just a sticker. That is a sticker of a kitty saying “me-wow!” Salza: I’m not a preschooler. Cooler: Fine, I’ll take it back- Salza: I earned this, back off!
Cooler: *sighs* I have no friends... Salza: Salza: *coughs* Bitch, what am I? A roach?!

Anonymous asked: Is Cooler close with the Armored Squadron?
They're the closest thing he has to friends without actually calling them friends, because he would deem that rather inappropriate since they are his subordinates. In fact, Salza would be his best friend if Cooler actually allowed himself to acknowledge their particular companionship was beyond that of a soldier and a commanding officer, but he won't for a variety of reasons.
#[anonymous]#[inquiries; response]#[musings; hidden depths]#[pto; armored squadron]#[the Armored Squadron could be the closest things he has to friends if he would see beyond his own ambitions]#[they're loyal to him personally and in some degree he does reciprocate]#[he prefers hanging out with them over the Arcosian nobility any day]

@saiyanandproud asked: (now I'm curious -- how about the Armored Squadron though??)
Cooler, Salza, Dore and Neiz
*Comments under an image of a really hot knife cutting bread* Dore: Imagine stabbing someone with this knife. Salza: It would instantly cauterize the wound, so the person wouldn't bleed, so it's not very useful. Cooler: if you want information it is Neiz: why would you STAB a person when you can have TOAST?
Cooler: You were stabbed. Do you remember anything? Dore: Only the ambulance ride to the hospital. Cooler: That wasn't an ambulance, I drove you. Dore: But I heard a siren. Salza: That was Neiz. Neiz: Sorry, I got nervous.
Neiz: Die. Dore: Please don't die! Neiz: DIE! Dore: PLEASE DON'T DIE! Cooler, confused: Why are they yelling at a plant? Salza, watching while eating popcorn: They bought it together and Dore wants Neiz to accept it as their kid.

anonymous asked: do NOT bring up Cynara in that gaudy outfit, no one should have to wear that travesty
"What nonsense," Cooler scoffed, a scowl forming over his features as he regarded the idiocy of the inquirer's statement. His finger tapped against the polished glass of his chalice. "She was perfectly presentable in the uniform of my Armored Squadron. There is no need to be vitriolic simply because you're incapable of admiring the meaning and magnificence behind its color scheme."

@viopolis asked: // A random(-ish) question for you: What would you imagine Cooler getting up to around GT's timeframe?
Honestly? I haven't really thought much of GT's timeframe. From what I recall of GT, I believe that Cooler was actually (briefly) established in that verse. However, he was dead and condemned to hell, so you only see him as a cameo in the background of a shot when hell opens up and all the villains come to Earth. Thanks for making him "canon" just to make him dead and a background shot, GT.
But, let’s disregard what GT says because it is boring and limits the potential of Cooler could bring to the story.
In GT’s timeline, I would have Cooler alive. I would imagine that, after his brother and father were killed back in Z, Cooler had to deal with the fallout of their deaths. Freeza, at that time, was considered the strongest in the universe. So, with his death, I can only imagine that it would have incited mass rebellion and civil wars. Hundreds of planets suddenly freed from tyranny and thousands of soldiers suddenly losing their commanding leader would cause absolute chaos. Planets would try to emancipate themselves from the Empire, and high-ranking generals would have in-fighting in attempt to take commanding lead of the Planet Trade Organization and the Empire. The Empire would be fractured and chaotic. And Cooler, the lesser-known son, would have to suddenly come back into the picture and spent all his time regaining control of the situation: reconquering planets, purging traitors, and focusing on stabilizing the PTO and Empire. I would imagine that, 30 years later when GT takes place, Cooler would be ruling the Empire, and this could be played with in certain ways. Either make him a neutral force or a potential threat.
Actually, while writing this, I came up with a thought of how I would have Cooler done in Dragon Ball GT rather than just giving him a cameo. Putting the rest under the read more.
GT, despite its heavy flaws, is an interesting concept in a sense that it revisits a lot of Goku’s history. A young boy on a magical journey with a group of friends looking for Dragon Balls, but this time, it’s because Goku is wished young again, and this time the journey is in space and with his granddaughter and Trunks to recover the balls before the Earth is destroyed. It’s a merge of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, mixing a fantastical adventure with sci-fi elements. And most of the villains he meets reflects his past in some element, whether as direct homage to past villains or as consequences of past actions.
If we follow through with GT’s premise, I would probably have Cooler be an arc villain in a reflection of his brother, but different in ways that correlates with how the GT villains have their own unique flavors. I would have him as the first arc villain, and build him up slowly as a threat. That rather than outright going after Goku, at least not yet, I would probably have him invoke some sort of propaganda against Goku and the Saiyans in general. Like, throughout most of space, Cooler paints the turmoil of the Empire as a bad thing because of all the chaos and death that was caused by the fallout of Freeza’s death. That hey, remember those nasty Saiyans who purged planets? The ones whose survivors that Freeza so graciously took in when their planet was destroyed? They murdered their rightful Emperor and nearly collapsed the Empire. You should blame them for the instability and deaths that happened. So, now Goku and his companions have to deal with a universe that is hostile to them for their Saiyan heritage. That way, we learn what happened after Freeza and his father died to explore the lore of Freeza’s Empire, and build up Cooler’ s cunning and pragmatism.
And then as we go along, we get glimpses of Cooler. Probably look into his internal thoughts and strategy, as well as his relationship with the Armored Squadron and his family. I personally think that despite the fact he’s now Emperor, a festering part of Cooler’s thoughts would be that he didn’t “earn” his Empire because it was the Saiyan that killed his brother and not him. Build up a resentment to Goku while reflecting his own insecurity.
Maybe I would also include Dr. Myuu in some way, to foreshadow his importance to the series. Maybe Dr. Myuu helps Cooler with spreading the propaganda (thus, showing his hatred for Saiyans), or maybe Cooler isn’t purely organic anymore but something of a cyborg, as a callback to Mecha-Freeza (while also hinting at the eventual Machine Mutants). Make Dr. Myuu like this side character to foreshadow the next arc. This way, the first part of GT wouldn’t just be as boring as it was until they get to Baby.
Of course, inevitably, Cooler would eventually confront Goku and be killed in the end. But I think it would be a lot more fun if Cooler became an established villain rather than just a boring, dead cameo. GT had some interesting ideas, but pulled them off rather poorly.
#[viopolis]#[musings; hidden depths]#[inquiries; response]#[I spent way too long on this but you really did get my brain flowing with ideas]#[and reminded me how much GT was wasted potential]#[and that Cooler deserves to have more than just two movies damn it]

Send my muse anons about their relationships. - OPEN
@saiyanandproud asked: What is your relationship with the Armored Squadron? Do you trust them, do you have a high esteem of them? Would you consider them a family, in a way?
“The Armored Squadron are my elite soldiers. They have earned my trust and esteem through their impeccable display of loyalty and efficiency, and will undoubtedly continue to do so,” Cooler praised graciously, and could see from the corner of his eye how Salza straightened up, chin held high as he managed the ship’s control panel. Though he could not see the blond’s face, the Arcosian could imagine he held a prideful smile. As would Neiz and Dore, had they not been away on an assignment at the moment. An assignment that he felt confident they would succeed in.
The Arcosian himself gave a relatively pleased smirk, folding his hands together as he leaned back on his hoverchair. “Though they are not my kin, nor would I ever consider them such, they have proven to be far more reliable than that of my own blood. And for that, I would sooner honor them then I would Freeza.”

📜 go for it!
Send in 📜 to get a random fun fact about my muse.
Friendship outside of his clan is severely looked down upon, but despite that, Cooler holds the Armored Squadron in such high regard that if they were Arcosian, he would very much consider them his friends. Especially Salza, who he feels most in tuned with due to their shared intellectual interests, mutual love for the arts, similar privileged upbringing, and firm professionalism towards their duties. Of course, ever admitting such a thing aloud would be considered shameful among his kin; those who served them could never be their equals in any way, and regarding them as such suggested a softness that the Cold Clan would find disgraceful. But Cooler conveys his attachment to them through favoritism that he would never show any other soldier, with the (arguably justified) excuse that as his personal elites, they deserve to be given more respect, which in turn makes them very loyal to him.

Guess what!? It’s HEADCANON TIIIIME!
Well, yesterday/today was my last day before I had to go back to work since I am nearly fully recovered from my surgery. This past month has been fun and extremely good for me as it's been a while since I had nothing to worry about. No work, no money, no bills, thanks to my family for helping me out and making life easier for me in the few weeks where I could literally only stay in bed for more than half the day. I drew so much and I am so proud of myself for attempting to improve in a short amount of time and reminding me why I LOVE this hobby in the first place. As I drew, I realized that I NEVER draw Salza alone, without Kida and I never really share my HC of his story. I've always had the idea that Salza was a mutant amongst his kind, the way Ginyu addressed Jeice in the Manga that Mutants are hard to come by and one of a kind, and because of that, I figured he had a very strong power level and intelligence (I mean, you had to in order to live that long beside Cooler). I've also always imagined that he came from a privileged upbringing, both his parents were respective best of their fields and very politically involved in their Planet's government. Because of his Mutant status, he was sent away to a prestigious Military School where he learned to resent all of his teachers because of their abusive and corrupt tactics and had very few friends there. (I HC that the Brench Army valued soldiers who did first and asked questions later, and tried to beat their newcomers into submission and erased any personality they had. They wanted the perfect, nonquestioning army.) When he came of age, he continued to train at the Military School, and discovered that he could manipulate his chi very well. He and others were sent away to King Kold's Military Training Camps to improve on said abilities and when he was sent back, the Brench Military forced Salza to face some of his old friends and kill them to showcase his strength and to serve as a reminder to anyone that the Brench military is not to be trifled with. Salza did so, but at a cost. Killing his friends and all the abuse he had dealt with did something to him, his personality and any humanity he may have had left was swindling. He came to hate his Commanders, he came to distrust his Planet's government, and resented his race. The final straw was the murder of his parents and younger sister. The Brench and Acrosian's had been at war for decades, each not quite having the control or the upperhand. Salza had been put in charge of his own Platoon, and was a critical member of the Army by his mid-twenties. He was approached by an Acrosian spy, they offered him a place in their Military, next to the Prince himself in return to betraying his kind. And so, during a critical moment of the War- he had them turn against his own kind. His soldiers did not question him, as was protocol, and followed his every order. Salza himself killed any general, lieutenant, captain- whomever stood in his way. With his betrayal, others followed soon and then the Planet Brench was invaded and successfully integrated into the Planet Trade Organization. He along with others were pitied against each other for the position of Captain of the Armored Squadron, an elite force of Mutants serving directly with Prince Cooler. Of course, Salza proved to be the strongest of them all and took the position swiftly and eagerly. As months passed, two more members were added. Despite having betrayed his race, Prince Cooler never questioned Salza's loyalty as Salza firmly believed that the Acrosians gave him the chance to exact revenge on the Planet that saw fit to turn him into a puppet. They wanted a weapon regardless of what he wanted, regardless of what they had to make him do- for that. They never gave him a choice, but Prince Cooler did. he gave him a choice. He is utterly loyal to Cooler. It's a little different, I realize. Many people like to portray villains as individuals who had been led astray and continue to resent those they currently work for. I decided to go on a different route, as in the movie, despite Cooler being defeated, Salza was still eagerly willing to finish the job himself. He was loyal til the end, so I not only realized that Cooler/PTO had earned Salza's total respect and his loyalty, I felt as if this was a good opportunity to show how a character like him can willingly enter such a horrid Organization, how an individual can turn from their people and embrace the one destroying it. It's a fun concept that I will definitely work on further. For now, this history I have of his is vague with the details not all there but I hope to flesh it out as time comes. Whew! Lotsa typing! Type type type! X3 Salza © Akira Toriyama
