Content warning: Not beta read or really edited if I'm honest. Vague Infinite Darkness and RE6 spoilers. Leon and his whole deal, especially post-RE4 stuff. Depression. Isolation. Implied suicidal thoughts. Reader is sort of a living emotional crutch for Leon. Also reader is not quite all right. I can't write domestic fluff for the life of me. Look, the grammar is going to be a mess, I constantly switch between using APA, AP, and MLA on a regular basis for professional stuff. My brain is gonna zone out here.

Song fic time and first time writing Leon. Came up with the idea while I was studying for my interrogation test for history and I had a concert where this song was performed playing in the background. Finished writing this in between studying for my psych exam in a couple days. Hope you enjoy (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)

The apartment is quiet besides the sounds of light music and cooking as he enters. Despite living there for a few years, it lacks much character causing it to feel hollow. One of the only things proving that it was Leon's apartment was the sun damaged photos, yellowed with time.

One of them from years ago as he visited Sherry on her birthday. The smile on the girl's face. Claire.

It all felt so distant.

Everything grew out of reach. Nothing seemed to last for a broken man, especially for one who had the bright sparkle in his eyes beaten out so violently.

As he approaches the kitchen, the smell of onion and herbs wafting through the air, Leon notices the nostalgic yellow tinted light that colors the white walls.

At the stove-top was a familiar figure standing before a pot of soup.

You.

A heart made of glass is always... hurting anything that tries to touch it. Yet you embrace it so tight without fear.

His arms wrap around your waist as his head sits upon yours in this rehearsed dance. He smells your shampoo as he takes a deep breath.

"Welcome back, Leon.” You say in a light tone as if he wasn't gone for a little over a week. "I'm making tortellini soup tonight."

He can hear how much you missed him. Even if you don't say it, those feelings tinge your voice.

"Mmm," he sighs with closed eyes, "That sounds good. Haven't had that in awhile."

Leon’s hold on you is strong. He wants to savor the moment.

There’s an itch in the back of his mind; one that would never leave. That this relationship would only hurt you. That he was taking advantage of your kindness. That he could never express just how much he loved the sense of normalcy you brought.

As if sensing his emotions, you quietly grab his left hand with a softness Leon wasn’t used to feeling.

Your hands were light compared to his calloused hands, which were covered in blood. Regrets marred his digits.

The plush feeling of your lips is unfamiliar to his inner wrist. This intimate touch caused Leon to melt.

A simple touch, a simple act, a simple situation in your eyes but it doesn’t feel so simple to him.

A clink as the spoon is set down. You turn around to face him.

But such happiness is sometimes, through cruelty of God, suddenly in front of my eyes… disappears and it makes me so scared.

The look in your eyes, how greatly it contrasted the steely eyes he would see everyday. Fresh eyes that didn’t twist with fear, changed. Not hardened by painful experiences. The look in your eyes is different.

Tired but understanding.

It is something that Leon was grateful for. A calm in a life that he felt so little choice or support in. A happiness from not feeling alone.

A deep hunger satiated but it caused a fear to rise.

What if you saw what he faces everyday? What if you got hurt even more than before? What if… you left?

They kept scratching at the back of his mind.

I live only for your sake. This voice will take an oath, to my dearest one.

Night carried on. Dinner came and went. No discussion of his work.

The ticking of the clock counting down the seconds before the feeling of the mattress would soon greet the two of you. The nighttime routine felt so unfamiliar. He was a stranger to this domestic moment.

“Apparently Sara,” your coworker, Leon had to remind himself as you spoke, “had decided to drag me out while you were gone. Saying that I was being too focused on work again.”

You roll your eyes in a familiar manner as you wipe the skin of your face with a cloth. There’s a soft, tired look, one that is aware of reality.

“Right.” Leon responds. “I already know you were hunched over your desk, typing away at a proposal looking like Gollum." He chuckles as he remembers the first time he saw you at work.

“Hey.” You pout cutely in response, before sitting on the bathroom counter and sighing. “Let me see your face.”

You put out your hand expectantly and he obliges as he puts his chin in your hand. Reaching with your other to grab his cloth and wetting it with water, you smile sweetly with the look that Leon loved.

A careful caress with the cloth as you clean his face. Your thumb traces over faint scars, reminders of the memories he can never escape. There’s a tightening in his heart at this touch.

As you finish and wring out the cloth, you turn back to face him still sitting on the counter. The softness of your hand shifts to cradle the side of his face.

In response, he lifts your chin with his fingers and gives that charming smile of his. “I have the world in my hands.”

“Not sure about that.” You reply softly. “Pretty sure I got it in mine.”

As you get into bed, due to a learned habit after living with Leon for four months, get into the side of the bed away from the door. He lies across from you and lets out a heavy sigh, as he feels exhaustion wash over him.

His hand finds its way to your waist as the light turns off. Leon’s face burrows itself in the crook of your neck, like something was commanding him to get as close as possible to you. To find the core to the warmth. The rhythm of your breath, a lullaby, gently sends him to sleep as his fingers curl atop your skin slightly.

Even at that moment, the scratching turned into digging.

Your eyes heavy and on the verge of the precipice, a whisper drifts from Leon’s lips as he is asleep.

“My only… Make me happy when…”

Will it be sent to you? Will it be conveyed? Words will never be enough… for this feeling of mine, to my dearest one.

By the time the rays of the sun bounce off your gentle skin, Leon is awake and doesn’t move as he watches you sleep peacefully. A smile creeps onto his face as he notices a line of drool.

In that moment, the man, who long lost his faith and wishes, says a silent prayer.

Ugh, kind of a hard choice but I’m still in love with School Life Melody Reiji simply because of his first shot:

Fantasy Circus Reiji (which I sadly do not have because I got into it too late), both Halloween Reijis, Dr. Camus, and MOP Masa are also strong contenders.

How did you discover UtaPri?

Kind of a funny story. I believe I downloaded the anime a few years ago initially because I was playing Mystic Messenger and Hakuoki and Amnesia and was looking for some otome-based anime to watch and that was recommended to me. Cue a few months later seeing actually seeing Tokiya for the first time and thinking he looked like Jumin Han so of course I had to watch it now. Well suffice to say I got so irritated at the the series cock-blocking me I didn’t touch it after the first season. 

So last year @ranmarukurosakis and @eaddi kept talking about Shining Live in our chat and finally after a month or two of it I finally gave it a try (“this Ranmaru fella looks hot I guess”) and after a few days dropped it because I didn’t understand wtf I was doing. A few weeks later I picked it up again to give it another shot and after some explaining of how it worked I actually got into it. Then I watched the entire series in a few weeks, during which I discovered how much I loved QN and a dumbass named Reiji Kotobuki fucking sucker punched me in the heart and it was fucking over.

What’s your favourite song overall?

“God’s Star” and “Night Dream” have been tied for #1 for months, with “Itoshiki Hito E”, “Non-fiction”, “Original Resonance”, and “Never” pretty high up too.

Something about the series that makes you smile?

Whenever Reiji appears on screen and his interactions with other characters, especially Ran Ran and Tokiya (“Aw, c'mon, Ran-Ran. Remember what we said about on-stage threats?” or Tokiya’s salty ass over Reiji in the “Never” episode). But to be more precise, anytime Reiji finally gets the love/praise/attention/cooperation he deserves especially in one of those rare moments it’s coming from a member of QN.

Once Reiji made it to the ocean stage, he took a deep breath before putting on his brightest smile and waving to the audience with one hand. His other hand contained an umbrella, which he placed next to his feet on the stage. He was too far away to do his usual greeting, so he simply blew them all a kiss. His emerald green cape  billowed behind him as he moved to unclip two pokeballs attached to his waist. Tossing them up, Bella and Lulu appeared next to each other, each giving a bow to the audience before the music began to play.

Upon hearing the melody, both pokemon began to dance in a makeshift waltz, neither moving away until they heard the lyrics of the song as sung by their trainer

A shining figure under the spotlight, But in a place that brightly lit, I know there is always a shadow present

Reiji brought both his arms up at ‘lit’, Bella doing the same as she used Sunny Day. The entire stage, along with the surrounding area soon became bathed in intense sunlight. Being in the middle, Bella was in the bulk of the light, giving a glow about her as Reiji turned his attention to Lulu.

When the stage was brightly lit, Reiji brought his arms down before extending his right outwards at ‘present’, prompting Lulu to stretch his arms in front of him before using Mega Drain. A stream of green energy snaked forward from Lulu’s palms, enveloping Bella enough to cast a shadow behind her. Bella maintained her composure despite losing some HP due to the move, though she allowed a small hint of discomfort to show on her face to match the mood of the song.

Every time my glass heart Touched anything, it was damaged

As he sang, Reiji made to move forward, prompting Bella to spin the flowers on her head before using Petal Blizzard. When Reiji ended up recoiling instead of going forward, this was Lulu’s prompt to use Energy Ball. The two powerful attacks, powered by the sun collided; one a flurry of petals and the other a swirling mass of condensed green energy. When both collided they cancelled each other out. However, the recoil from the attacks sent both pokemon stumbling backwards, as if they were hurt by one another.

So when I hold you tightly without fear, Why, why, why Is it this warm?

Once the effects of the attacks subsided, both pokemon danced back towards each other. Once they were within reach of one another, Lulu pulled Bella close and into an embrace and the two began to dance yet again.

On days of heavy rain, Our shoulders huddle together As under the same small umbrella, Both our cheeks turn red

At ‘rain’, Reiji reached for the umbrella at his feet, quickly opening it up and holding it above his head as Lulu’s arms reached for the sky before using Rain Dance. The sunlight that was previously bathing the stage with light was replaced by dark clouds. Large droplets of rain began to fall, slowly at first before coming down steadily. With the umbrella protecting him from the rain, Reiji continued to sing.

Occasionally through God’s maliciousness, that happiness Right before my eyes Might vanish is terrifying

As Reiji seemed to shrink back in fear at ‘terrifying’, Bella began to move quickly in a Quiver Dance. Multiple versions of her appeared all around Lulu, who tried to follow her movements only to lose sight of her as she seemingly vanished without a trace. In reality she used the last version of herself as a stand in to move behind Lulu, and it took the other a pokemon a minute to find her again. Once he did the two moved back to each other, resuming the same dance they had been using throughout the appeal thus far.

By now the song was reaching its final end., and the fruits of all of their effort boiled down to this moment.

This love song is overlapping With a bundle of dreams, and soars

Here Reiji waved his arm, and both pokemon moved apart. The wave of his arm signaled Lulu to move towards one end of the edge of the stage. In quick succession, Reiji waved his other arm, signalling to Bella to go to the other end. When he brought his other arm up, Bella lept into the air and used Magical Leaf. Glowing green leaves came from the flowers atop her head before shooting down into the water in front of the stage. When they fell they caught the drops of rain, creating a rainbow glow to surround them. The petals, upon hitting the water moved close together. When the attack was done, Bella twirled down from the sky and onto the petals floating above the water.

I want to encircle you with this love song So that it overshadows all other songs

At this Reiji waved his arm once more, prompting Lulu to bring his arms upwards. As he did so, the water began to ripple, which turned into rolls and then into waves as he used Surf. Once the wave, powered by the rain grew, it picked up speed and charged right towards Bella. Using the leaves as a makeshift surfboard, along with the leaves that served as her ‘feet’, Bella rode the wave as it travelled towards the front the stage. Twisting her body left and right, Bella managed to get the makeshift surfboard near the crest of the wave before it crashed into the stage and sent her into the air. Doing a somersault in midair, Bella directed her body so that it travelled over to the side of the stage where Lulu was standing.

Will it reach you? Will it get through? These words are not enough To express my feelings to my dearest person!

As the song came to an end, Bella descended from the sky, doing a twirl after the somersault to land in Lulu’s outstretched arms. Once in his hold, the two pokemon spun around joyfully before Lulu gently placed Bella back onto the stage and all three gave a bow, thus signalling an end to the performance.
