are you who, what, where, or why?
you are why
You are a very philosophical person, and you’re happiest when you’re able to sit and think for long periods of time. You’re interested on everything on a deeper level, and you aren’t content until you’ve thought about something thoroughly. You believe that often we act too quickly without taking time to reflect. You can learn a lot if you sit with your thoughts. People may think you’re a bit slow moving, but they don’t realize how quickly your mind is racing.

First thing's First...
I'm starting this page to kind of get all my thoughts, feelings, fears and all that out into the world. I want to help and inspire others. I want them to heal just as I am working on healing.
Here's a quick run down of why I am in the position I'm in. It's a story I've actually gotten bored telling, but it's necessary to understand why I have the trauma and attachment style that I do.
In 2006, I started dating a guy who would become my husband two years later. From the start, there were obvious red flags that I should have paid attention to, but I was a stubborn kid. I hadn't met many guys who admitted to liking me and the couple who did, I just wasn't attracted to them.
I thought this guy was the love of my life. Turns out he was the narc of my life. I stayed way beyond the relationship's expiration date. We were together, in total, nearly 16 years. We divorced in 2020. During the marriage, he constantly put me down in joke form, he cheated, lied, hid stuff from me, sabotaged plans, broke down all my boundaries, was disrespectful, wouldn't stand up for me, played the victim, gaslit me, took advantage of me physically and then insult the results of his actions, emotionally manipulated me, was super hot and cold with me, emotionally abandoned me for long periods of time, threatened to leave me constantly, threatened to kill himself if I wanted out, love bombing was a big thing with him as well. The list goes on, but like I said the narrative has come to a point for me where it's exhausting to think or talk about
Fast forward to today. I met a man who I love and turns out those toxic habits that were used on me, I use them now. This hurt the man I love very deeply. I ended things with him because I couldn't keep hurting him like that. He's one who will endure the world and I don't want to be the one to continuously break his world. So then I started a healing journey; not just for him, but mainly for me. It was him who made me realize I actually did need help. I've gotten a lot of confirmation that this time it will stick and I believe it.
Novemeber 9, 2022, there was a shift in my entire being. I woke up and felt like my body and mind were upgraded. There was no feelings of pain and anxiety (yes these things still happen, but not on the same scale as before).
I had already been reading a lot of books about changing your mindset, praying, meditating, isolating, looking deep, journaling, and practicing cognitive behavioral therapy. I then came across a therapist who suggested looking into the attachment style theory. So I took the quiz and I was shocked honestly. I thought I'd be one of the common types, but nope. It turns out because of the extended time in an abusive relationship, I had developed the rarest attachment style which is a combination of both of the common ones.
It now made sense to me why my ex boyfriend was constantly saying I was hot and cold toward him. I didn't even know it was happening. It was something I was so used to being a part of that I didn't know I was doing it independently of my ex husband. I didn't even know it was a problem then, but it makes sense now.
So I am setting a specific goal for myself:
Blog 3 times a week about my journey and healing progress.
I hope you will follow along, share your experience or start your own journey. Had you told me 2 month ago that I would be in the mental space I am now, I would not have believed you. That's how helpless I felt back then, but healing is possible! You can retrain your mind, heal and learn to love the person you are!

“…” [read] || one-shot
Summary: Nemo’s grandfather who…uh…tried to abduct him reaches out after months of silence. Nemo struggles with what to do.
tw: anxiety, depression, familial kidnapping
Nam-min. That was how the message opened. Nemo’s hal-abeoji had texted him sometime during the night. It was the first message he saw when he rolled over and picked up his phone. The contact glared back at him through the brightness on the screen. Nemo shoved his phone back under his pillows. He stared up at the thatched-work ceiling, taking one long, deep breath in that felt like inhaling water. Why didn’t I block the number? Nemo thought. His heart thudded on his tongue. Why didn’t I delete it? He should delete the message now. Nemo flexed his fingers against his bed sheets and he reached back under the pillow. But he couldn’t click on the message. His hal-abeoji had written with roman characters. Nam-min, he read again without even needing to think about it. He’d wanted Nemo to understand. Nam-min, I know it has been… and then he couldn’t see the rest, not without clicking it. Nam-min… “Nam-minnie!” Appa barked from downstairs and Nemo flinched in his own bed, looking toward his door like Appa was about to burst in and catch him doing something bad.  He darkened his phone screen again and scrambled out of his bed. “Nam-minnie, you up?” “Coming!” Nemo called frantically. He fluttered to his closet, grabbing his clothes and shoving himself into his work-out sweats and a t-shirt. On his bed, his phone buzzed. It was a tiny sound. Gentler than a bee humming. Nemo felt it in his whole body, like he was about to come apart. He tossed his phone in his bag without looking again and fluttered downstairs, making sure to smile as brightly as he could at Appa putting toast and gimbap on the table. He’d forget about it. That’s what he’d do. He’s forget about it, and by the time he got to school, his phone would be full of messages from all his friends, pushing Hal-abeoji’s message all the way down, like it had never been down there at all. ** Hal-abeoji texted again in first period. Nemo wasn’t going to look. He was paying attention: face forward, eyes pinned on the whiteboard where the teacher was talking about verb conjugations for French. He needed to be focused, he sucked at this class especially– English and Korean and French tangled up in his brain like a spiderweb. The phone buzzed a second time. Maybe it wasn’t him. It probably wasn’t him. What time was it in Korea anyway? No, don’t think that– Nemo didn’t care, remember? (17:35. It was a little before dinner time. Nemo knew because when his grandparents were in town, they’d eat together at 19:00. They took him to every restaurant in town. Halmeoni wanted to know what his favourite dish was at each one, and she had ordered whatever he ordered for herself. It didn’t matter what it was, she had done it with a smile. Maybe I’ll like it too! We’ll have something in common.) At the third buzz, Nemo reached into his bag, eyes darting from the board and down again so the teacher wouldn’t see. He flipped his phone around to see the screen. There was one text from Hal-abeoji, one from Tae. Tokki: Hyung said yes to tonight. ;) Right. It was Friday. He was supposed to go over to Tae-yah’s for a sleepover. But Nemo couldn’t focus on that one. It was the one below, texted to Nemo just four minutes before Tae: Hal-abeoji: I understand if you don’t want to … “Mr. Bae, no phones in class.” Nemo looked up, his face turning red at once. “Sorry, my abeoji. My dad,” he corrected quickly and felt the water in his lungs again. His chest burned, heavy and wrong. He put the phone back in his bag. “How about you translate this sentence then?” The teacher said. Nemo shrunk a little in his seat as she tapped the English on the projector. I ran quickly to the store. “Uh…I…빨리–thorns, I mean,” Nemo stumbled as his face brightened. He shrank more as the class erupted into giggles. Mei K shot him a sympathetic look from her corner of the room. “Hmm, perhaps we should wait until after class to text our parents, Mr. Bae? Anyone else want to help him out?” Nemo just ducked his head and rubbed at his forehead like he could scrub all the words of his hal-abeoji out. ** At lunch, there were two more messages. Nemo should not open them. But would they just keep coming? Maybe it was better to tell his grandfather to fuck off, the way he should have done in the first place when his grandparents came to town. “Nemo?” Nemo lifted his eyes from his lunch and saw Tae staring at him. “Uh, you okay?” “Yeah,” said Nemo. “Yeah, sorry, uh– I spaced. I had this stupid French pop quiz. My brain’s totally fried.” “Oh, yeah– I just uh, asked if you still wanted to come over? You didn’t answer my text so…” “No, of course!” Nemo glanced to the left and his smile got wider as Louie and Finn approached. He slid his foot under the table to bump the toe of his sneaker against Tae’s. “Definitely. Hey guys!” “Okay mates, I’ve narrowed down the list for Operation: Romantic Flash Mob down to ten songs!” Louie declared as he sat down and pulled out his own phone. “Lean in, we gotta go through the pros and cons of each one…” ** He excused himself during biology. His brain seriously felt like a bomb, ticking down to absolute destruction. He couldn’t ignore the texts anymore. He was gonna call, Nemo decided– he was gonna call, and sneer at Hal-abeoji to leave him alone. He scrambled into one of the washroom stalls, locking the door and then fishing out his phone, holding it in his sweaty palms. He clicked on the thread, finally, at all four messages back to back to back to back. Hal-abeoji’s English was good. He wondered if he used a translator. He wondered if his aunt had helped him, actually. She had swore she had no idea about their plan back in Augustbut– what if that had been a lie too? What if this was all part of a new plan? They want to steal you again. He should not read these messages, knowing all that. But he clutched his phone, and his shoulders hunched, as he read each one slowly. Nam-min, I know it’s been awhile. You are owed this apology much sooner, but the truth is I did not know how to say it, and when was appropriate. I wanted to give you space, and your father space. But I am hoping this apology will not be too late, and you will understand how sincere I am when I say that we never wanted to hurt you and that I love you. It was the greatest joy in my life to finally meet and talk with my So-yong’s beautiful son. If this is the only time we get to talk, it will always remain a gift. But I hope it won’t be. When you are ready, I am hoping we can talk again, and I can repair what I broke. Two tears dropped onto his phone’s screen. I understand if you don’t want to acknowledge this message, or if you are not ready yet. Please do not feel obligated to respond. I want to do this on your terms. Your aunt wants to say she is sorry too; she did not want to text you since we already know this is intrusion enough. Please know that this offer will never expire. This will be our last message, but we hope to hear from you one day. Eat well, and good luck on your placement in the next few moons. We are very proud of the person you have grown to be. Love, your grandfather and aunt. Delete them. Delete all of them. No– drop your phone in the toilet. This wild thought gripped him and he thrust his hand over the bowl, his breathing ragged and a few more tears falling from his eyes, but right before he let go, he pulled his hand back. Don’t be stupid! It doesn’t matter! None of it matters! Why are you upset? Nemo shoved his way out of the washroom and splashed water on his red-rimmed eyes. This was all his fault. If he had blocked the numbers moons ago, he would have never gotten these texts. His grandparents and his aunt could disappear from his life like he never met them at all. And that was what Nemo wanted, wasn’t it? To forget all about them, and their kindness, and the dinners, and the gifts, and the stories of  his eomma, how they had made Nemo love them so foolishly, and led him straight into their trap. He hadn’t been good enough then. Nothing had changed since. Nemo pulled up his phone, went to his contacts and found Hal-abeoji and Halmeoni’s numbers, saved there with silly little heart emojis. It was the emojis that made him stop again. His vision got all blurry and he shuddered in a breath that felt like he was swallowing rocks. Nemo pulled up his texts with Tae instead. Sorry, he typed out with shaky fingers. Forgot I have a scout thing. Can’t. And then he turned his phone off so no one could reach him, and he could disappear too.

Bits and Pieces  -  Blue Jeans History   8/23/20
A couple of weeks ago I received in my inbox a quiz asking for which European city that jeans are named. I don’t know if the choices I was offered helped or what, but I actually guessed the correct answer: Genoa, Italy.
Genoa was originally known as “Geane” or “Jeane.” It was a French name that came from a cotton fabric called “jean fustian” that was made there. Because it was an industrial strength fabric, it was popular with sailors and fishermen of the Mediterranean area.
Fabric weavers in Nimes, France tried to imitate this sturdy fabric. The Nimes weavers called their cloth, “Serge de Nimes.” Their initial attempts didn’t work out, but eventually they hit on a cotton twill textile which they called “denim.”
The weft and warp weave of denim allowed the organic indigo dye used on it to give one side a blue cast and the other side a white cast.
It is difficult for many today to even imagine a life without denim jeans or other styles of clothing in denim. Though I have many pieces of denim in my wardrobe now, I was not allowed to wear jeans as a child. I’m not sure why, but from information I have discovered and will give below – Mom might have had a reason based on the times. Consequently, I bought my first pair of jeans in my mid-20’s to wear as a protest statement to a teacher’s meeting. Times are very different now.
Blue jeans as we know them today in the United States did not appear on shelves until after the California Gold Rush of 1848.
The story goes that a frustrated miner’s wife complained to her tailor husband, Jacob Davis, that she grew tired of repeated mendings of pants around the weaker areas of pockets and front buttons. Couldn’t he make a pair of pants that wouldn’t rip so often? He decided on copper rivets and a sturdy canvas fabric called duck cloth.
Realizing that he had a special product, he wanted to patent it. But he didn’t have the experience nor the money to do that. He found a business partner in a new German immigrant with dry goods stores in San Francisco – named Levi Strauss. It was from Strauss’ store that Davis bought his supplies.
Strauss agreed to the proposition; Davis moved to San Francisco; they received their patent on May 20, 1873. They became partners under the name Levi Strauss & Co. Strauss ran the business side, and Davis was in charge of production.
The patent expired in 1890, but by then Strauss and Davis had such a booming business that jeans were already strongly associated with the Levi Company. They didn’t mind the competition. It was in that year that the 501 style Levi jean was first sold. The rest is history, as they say.
However, as Paul Harvey would say: “And now for the rest of the story.”
Jeans became popular after the turn of the last century with cowboys and workers who needed rugged clothing to withstand their tough daily wear. Levi Strauss & Co. became the first jeans to have their label on the outside of the garment by placing his signature red flag on a back pocket of the pants. That was in 1936.
Also, in the 1930’s Vogue magazine was the first to have a fashion model on the cover in denim pants. This was quite a fashion statement. It was giving permission to women to wear them as fashion – not just practical work clothing.
During the 1950’s, blue jeans became associated with the “bad boys” of Hollywood. Because of this connection, many American schools banned wearing jeans as “too provocative.” Herein may lie my mother’s reasoning. I went to parochial school, and if some public schools banned them – you can be sure I couldn’t wear them.
Not only fashion, but also cultures change by and within the decades. By the 1960’s, jeans were popular again. The hippie age arrived, and the casual less-structured clothing gave way to creative expression bringing on the personalized jeans.
At this time, jeans appeared with embroidery, rhinestones, patches, stone-washed and even bright colors. Gone were just straight legs. Remember the bell-bottom flare and low-rise hip huggers? This is the decade that also brought the jean jackets.
This fresh jean culture continued into the 70’s with the addition of denim skirts and vests. It also brought to fashion the concept of jeans as a fresh and wholesome look (Farrah Fawcett and Lauren Hutton).
Designer labels came on the scene during the 1980’s with Calvin Klein, Jordache and Gloria Vanderbilt. As we know, nothing in fashion can remain for long, but can (and often does) reappear. During this decade, the pant leg tapered to the ankle with the skinny leg look.
Out with the fancy designer and into the “grunge” era of the 1990’s. The carpenter pants, baggy jeans and multiple pockets and tabs.
Oops, the skinny jeans left too soon – they reappear in the early 2000’s. With the innovative denim stretch technology, the skinny jean got a bit of a new look. The ultra-low-rise, flare and boot cut leg and boyfriend jeans become hot fashion. This leads to the popularity of wearing jeans for date night, not just casual time.
For the past 20 years, almost anything goes. You can wear straight leg, boot leg, short/cropped/capri leg. High-waisted, low-rise, with a belt, no belt; overalls, jumpsuit, rompers; dark wash, stone wash, distressed and even vintage.
Ah, vintage…that describes most of my wardrobe. I have some clothes that are old enough to legally drink in most every state of the Union.
For someone who can remember my closet and drawers having absolutely no denim to one that now has denim everywhere, I am grateful to that frustrated wife in the mid-1880’s who started this all.  Then Strauss and Davis teamed up to set in motion a fashion culture that lives beyond their wildest imagination. How lucky we are!

Hi friends! Happy Monday! A friendly reminder for today….
We’ve got this. 🙂
How was the weekend? I hope you had a fun and relaxing one! I had the most relaxing weekend that I’ve had in… a very long time. My friend Betsy flew in from San Diego and we spent the weekend hanging out, shopping, eating all the delicious things, and enjoying a magical spa day at Miraval.
Before she arrived Friday morning, I had to finish my CPR certification. I did an online and classroom combination since my certification had expired, and it was SO convenient to do most of it online. (Word to the world: don’t wait until the night before to do the full online component because it takes a few hours. At the same time, it was really helpful for me to have a refresher on all of this information. I’ve been CPR certified for 10 years now, and every time I have to re-certify, I’m SO glad I did it and so thankful for the information.)
Since the classroom component was only an hour long and I had to head directly to the airport to pick up Betsy, I took P to CPR with me. I figured you’re never too young to learn these valuable skills haha. (And yes, I called a couple of days before to make sure it would be ok, and they were totally cool with it.)
She watched me do chest compressions on the Brayden mannequin thing and even tried to a couple of rescue breaths. (The instructor got a kick out of it.) When I needed to practice roll bandaging, she was my model. She thoroughly enjoyed having her pretend wound bandaged up. After I demoed my skills and got my certification, we drove to the airport to swoop Betsy.
We were all ready for brunch, so of course I had to take her to Prep & Pastry.
MY OTHER VIDEOS
Kyle released new menus at Prep and Commoner & Co. this week and they’re both INSANE. He surprised us with a couple of fun things:
the cinnamon roll croissant
(this is seriously a dream come true… a cinnamon roll with flaky croissant layers)
and two of their new toasts. One had an egg, bacon and maple butter, and crispy brussels sprouts, and the other was smoked salmon with an herbed goat cheese.
For my actual meal, I rolled with the classic breakfast: scrambled eggs, housemade turkey sausage, potatoes, and gluten-free toast.
It was perfection.
When we finished brunch, we came back to the house to chill for a bit, and then decided to get some fresh air. I thought Sabino Canyon would be a fun *Tucson thing* to do, and since we had time to kill before we needed to pick Liv up from school, we decided to go for a little hike.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous – I think it was in the mid 60s and sunny – and we walked a couple of miles, enjoying the scenery,
and miss P ran almost the entire time.
She is suddenly really, intensely into running.
A couple of weeks ago, we went to take the dogs for a walk, and instead of riding her scooter (as she always does), she said,
“No mama, I want to run. Please put my sneakers on.”
I put on her sneakers, and she ran the entire time we were walking the dogs. I’m familiar with the distance since we’ve ran and walked it so many times, and her little newly 3-year-old legs ran .75 miles. She did the same thing at Sabino Canyon… started running, and hardly stopped. Maybe I have a mini Janae-esque speedster on my hands???
(She asked to wear her gymnastics outfit, too, and I was just like, “You do you” haha until I realized that she likely wanted to wear athletic clothes for her run? I don’t even know.)
After the hike, we picked up Livi from school, watched a movie at home, and then went to La Encantada for shopping and dinner.
My mom, stepdad, and nana met us there, and we had an awesome meal at Blanco. I almost always get the chicken tacos, but switched it up by ordering the chicken enchiladas. It was a WISE choice. If you’re in Tucson, definitely try the enchiladas! (And PS their rice is soooooo buttery and good.)
Madre took over for the girls – she watched them for the weekend! She’s the real MVP – while Betsy and I went shopping and then checked into our hotel at Loew’s Ventana Canyon.
This weekend was my bday gift, and all I really wanted was to hang out with Betsy and get some real sleep. I slept SO well both nights and it was amazing to have a weekend without a schedule or agenda. We knew we were doing a spa day at Miraval, but besides our treatments, we decided to go into it and just wing it depending on how we were feeling. It was so relaxing, and a much-needed refill on a cup that’s been feeling a little spent lately.
I have SO much to tell you about Miraval (and I’ll also compare it to Canyon Ranch) but it needs its own post, because otherwise this one will be TLDR. We spent the entire day at Miraval on Saturday (from about 8:30am until 7pm) and then went straight to Commoner & Co. for dinner and drinks.
This is random, but Kyle got me into bourbon cocktails. This one had vanilla and orange, and it was so smoky, slightly sweet, and delicious.
For my entree, I got the salmon from their new menu, which has kale chips and a mushroom risotto. It was perfect, as always. Even if I didn’t know Kyle (or be his kinda-twin), Commoner would still easily be my favorite dinner and date night spot in Tucson.
After we were totally full from a fantastic dinner, and refreshed from a full day at Miraval, we went back to the hotel for 9 1/2 GLORIOUS hours of sleep. When we woke up, my mom was already heading to the zoo with the girls, so we met Everly and Meg for crepes at the farmer’s market.
(This is the Breakfast 2.0 with no cheese on a gluten-free crepe. It has eggs, guacamole, green chilies, and salsa. Basically this is my ideal breakfast and I could eat it every single day.)
We walked around the market for a bit, and then it was time for Betsy to head home!
It was such an amazing weekend and the perfect ending to my week of bday celebrating. After I took the girls to swim, P crashed on the couch while Liv and I decorated for Christmas. It feels so festive around here, and I’m really excited for the next couple of months. <3
I’d love to hear about your weekend! Do you ever do getaways with your best friends? Where’s your favorite place to go? I still want to head back to Palm Springs one day- our girls’ trip there was a blast.
Have a happy Monday.
xoxo
Gina

Strikers Manchester United could sign in the transfer window to help Romelu Lukaku – Manchester United Season
The cameras were about to stop rolling at Carrington on Friday when a reporter wondered whether Jose Mourinho would be open to welcoming Wayne Rooney back on a short-term arrangement.
“No,” he replied. “I don’t deal in hypotheticals.” Rooney has already reassured DC United he will eschew a mid-season loan and Mouirnho has sensibly killed the Zlatan Ibrahimovic rumours.
But the United manager has coveted a back-up striker since January and there was casual interest in Marko Arnautovic and Mario Mandzukic in the summer. Romelu Lukaku has never broken the 30-goal barrier in a campaign and United are currently dependent on occasional number nine Anthony Martial for goals.
Here are a list of options for Mourinho to consider as back-up for Lukaku…
Wissam ben Yedder (Sevilla, contract expires: 2021)
In that post-Sevilla sermon at Carrington, Mourinho scoffed: “We went out to a side that’s more successful than Manchester United in last seven years in Europe. We went out to a side that has a huge tradition in knockout competitions, a side in the Spanish cup final. We are out to a team that knocked out Atletico Madrid in two legs.
“We are knocked out to a team that is brilliant in their approach for many years, with their scouting system, the way they invest with every Euro.” Perhaps Mourinho would consider signing the Sevilla forward who put two past United in March.
Ben Yedder, 28, is not the desired age for executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward but boasts decent pedigree. He attained his first France cap this year and is Sevilla’s joint-highest scorer with Mourinho’s compatriot Andre Silva, who is on loan from AC Milan.
Luka Jovic (Eintracht Frankfurt, contract expires: 2020)
Mourinho will not have seen the Serbian on his trip to Montenegro last month, since Jovic was with the Under-21s. His name shot up Google Trends the other week as he plundered five of Eintracht Frankfurt’s goals in their 7-1 annihilation of Dusseldorf and Jovic is the highest scorer in the Bundesliga, two above Robert Lewandowski.
Jovic is a diminutive 5ft 9′ but possesses a physical build that does not compromise his agility. He shinned his first against Dusseldorf but Jovic’s movement was reminiscent of Javier Hernandez’s alertness and United need a more mobile option as an alternative to the cumbersome Lukaku.
Mourinho is a stickler for a Serb, having twice bought Nemanja Matic, developed Branislav Ivanovic into the best right-back in the Premier League and shown interest in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Jovic is also only 20 and would represent a long-term investment.
Fernando Llorente (Tottenham, contract expires: 2019)
Given Mourinho once lobbied Real Madrid to sign Hugo Almeida and ended up with Emmanuel Adebayor, this is not as unforeseeable as it seems, and if there is one Tottenham player United would have little trouble in acquiring it is Llorente.
The Spaniard is, along with Moussa Sissoko, Vincent Janssen, Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld, unofficially available as the club tries to generate revenue in the January market as the new stadium costs spiral.
At 33, Llorente is the kind of name Woodward, the Glazers and, frankly, United supporters would turn their noses up at. Although he fits Mourinho’s forward profile, United discovered the pitfalls of having two battering rams against Burnley on Boxing Day, which marked the end of Ibrahimovic’s sorry second season.
Krzysztof Piatek (Genoa, contract expires: 2022)
A weekly pub quiz question might be who is above Cristiano Ronaldo in the Serie A scoring charts? Mauro Icardi? Mario Mandzukic? Paulo Dybala? Gonzalo Higuain? Dries Mertens? No. It is a 23-year-old Pole by the name of Krzysztof Piatek.
The irony is the goals have dried up since Piatek scored his first international goal for Poland last month, although firing blanks against Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini is no disgrace.
Piatek is six foot but a lean figurehead and all but one of his nine Serie A goals have come inside the box at a time United are lacking a regular penalty box finisher. Piatek has been predictably dubbed the ‘new Robert Lewandowski’ but only arrived in Liguria from KS Cracovia in the summer.
Javier Hernandez (West Ham, contract expires: 2020)
United have not unearthed a genuine gem since they introduced Javier Hernandez to the wider world the day after their Champions League elimination by Bayern Munich in April 2010. Hernandez was not renowned for his thinking outside the box but inside it he was predatory and garnered passable comparisons with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer; Hernandez scored three goals off the bench at Chelsea alone for United and 15 winners in two title-winning seasons.
Mourinho has spoken effusively about Hernandez. “I would never sell Di Maria, Chicharito, Danny Welbeck. Never. No chance,” Mourinho said in March 2017. “In the way we play at Old Trafford, in the way we dominate opponents, in the way we play in their box, I think Chicharito would have 20 goals easily, even coming from the bench for the last 10 or 20 minutes. He’d have 20 goals.”
There is a ‘but’. Mourinho was asked why he did not make an approach for Hernandez later that summer and replied ‘because he left the club a few years ago’. Hernandez is now 30 and only scored for West Ham at AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup this term.
Mason Greenwood
The 17-year-old has appeared 25 times for United Under-18s and scored 27. He has three in three in the Uefa Youth League and one in one for the U23s. United have arguably not had a more prolific goalscorer in their junior teams this century and Greenwood rubbed shoulders with the first-team aged 16 on the pre-season tour of the United States.
Mourinho has already promoted the Bradford-born goalscorer into first-team training this term and it would not be a surprise if he became the United manager’s seventh academy debutant before the end of the season.
United have witnessed through Marcus Rashford the benefit of promoting a youngster mid-season but such stratospheric starts are rare. Bedding Greenwood in would be essential but he already has an impressive presence about him and is not as callow as Rashford was at the same age. Another reserve outing on Friday night is likely.
