Hell’s Road

Here is a script following the spirit of Halloween. Enjoy.

The sound of typing if faintly heard. Black screen cuts to video of family: MOTHER, FATHER, seven year old AMANDA and new born CIDNY. Song Ghost Riders in the Sky by Jonny Cash slow and instrumental crescendos into background noise. Cut to new video family older by ten years celebrating mother’s birthday. Typing is heard again. Cut to family at graduation of CIDNY. No typing. Cut to police at door. Family is sad reason is not yet known. Typing is heard. Cut to CIDNY (23) screaming at nothing. No typing. Cut to hospital AMANDA (30) is in bed connected to many wires. Cut to CIDNY typing and reading on computer. Flipping pages is heard over music. Cut to family sitting in hospital room AMANDA is still not awake. Sound of pages flipping. Cut to CIDNY reading old musty books. No pages heard. CIDNY is at a crossroad. Cut to box, tight in, in hole and hands covering up the box. Cut to CIDNY a man is behind her, he has red eyes. Cut to two hands shaking, tight in, blood is dripping. Song ends.

EXT. DAY-OUTSIDE HOSPITAL

CIDNY runs from her parked car into the hospital.

INT. SAME TIME-HOSPITAL

CIDNY runs through lobby and to elevator. Cut to CIDNY coming out of elevator and running down the hall to a room. Cut to other side of door. CIDNY burst through the door and sees her family. AMANDA is awake on the bed looking at CIDNY. CIDNY runs and hugs AMANDA. Mother and father join in hug.

CIDNY

I’m so glad you’re ok.

AMANDA

I’m glad you made it in time for once, that’s probably why I crashed.

CIDNY

Oh, so this is my fault now.

AMANDA

You’re the younger sibling Cid, everything is your fault, or the dogs but I can’t blame then when they’re not in the room.

MOTHER

Oh my two girls, just as full of life as always. I’m so glad you’re ok Amanda.

MOTHER hugs both girls again.

FATHER laughs

INT. NIGHT-PARENTS CAR

MOTHER, FATHER are in car smiling and listening to music. FATHER shudders and eyes turn black. FATHER looks at MOTHER her eyes are also black. FATHER drives car into lamp post.

EXT. SAME TIME- CRASH SIGHT

CIDNY pulls up just behind parent’s vehicle, she is crying. CIDNY dives into the wreckage to help her parents but they are dead. Cut to, tight on, man behind CIDNY he has red eyes. CIDNY notices him. She runs to tackle him but he disappears into red smoke. CIDNY kneels on the ground.

RED EYE MAN

(RED EYE MAN adjusts the cuffs of his suit.)

Looks like I have to collect my payment early Darling.

CIDNY is non-responsive.

RED EYE MAN

At lest you got to see your sister again before you come and work for me. Sorry about your parents though, truly, but I have to keep soul counts even you know. Anyway, this might hurt a bit.

(RED EYE MAN pulls out whip.)

CIDNY

Can I call my sister first before you kill me?

RED EYE MAN

(Hesitates)

I’m not going to kill you but, yes I suppose make it quick.

CIDNY pulls out her phone and slowly goes through her contacts. Calls her sister and mentally prepares for death or forever separation.

AMANDA (over the phone)

Hey Cid you don’t have to check up on me every hour you know I’m fine.

CIDNY cries into the phone.

AMANDA

Cid? Cid are you alright what is going on?

CIDNY

I love you Amanda.

AMANDA

I love you too, just tell me what’s wrong.

CIDNY

I have to go.

AMANDA

Ok, go where.

CIDNY

I don’t know; I have to go with him. I’m sorry to leave you right after I got you back. I have to pay my debt.

AMANDA

What do you mean? What debt, what man? Where are mom and dad?

CIDNY sobs into the phone.

CIDNY

Dead. Their dead and it is my fault. I just wanted you back.

There is silence on the other side of the phone.

CIDNY (continued)

I love you Amanda, remember that. Good bye.

AMANDA

Cidny wait.

CIDNY hangs up the phone. The RED EYE MAN pulls the whip back and wraps it around CIDNY’s neck. She struggles against its hold. Smoke billows from the whip. Then fire erupts on CIDNY’s hands. She starts making sounds of pain. The fire moves up and down CIDNY’s body until it enfolds her whole body. CIDNY screams in pain then the fire dies. Standing in CIDNY’s place is a skeletal fire being holding the whip. The skeleton has long hair made of fire with a blue fire as a bang covering one eye. Skeletal being turns and kneels in front of RED EYE MAN.

RED EYE MAN

Good to have you back Ghost Rider.

GHOST RIDER

Mephisto.

MEPHISTO

Go get to work.

The GHOST RIDER nods and head back to the car. When it gets into the car it changes into a 1960 Camaro Ss with two red strikes down the hood. The wheels, the fin in the back and head lights in the front are suing fire.

A cell phone goes off in the GHOST RIDER’s pocket. It takes it out and sees the name before the phone burns in its hand. AMANDA was trying to call back. The GHOST RIDER throws the phone away and gets into the car.

INT. CAMARO SS- SAME TIME.

The GHOST RIDER settles in the driver’s seat. Tight in on shifter, a bone hand on fire shifts the car into drive.

EXT. CHRASH SIGHT- SAME TIME

The GHOST RIDER drives off, tight in on back of car. MEPHISTO is no longer on the scene. Johnny Cash Ghost Riders in the Sky original plays as car drives down the road.
