since Rinja is mentioned here ill just add my own reply to. this reply. also because i think its incredibly funny how different their coping really is
firstly, what i need to say, is that rinja is based on me. so guess what, they've got all the same disorders that i have and that is. affecting their ways of coping GREATLY. this little victorian guy has practically no fucking idea who they are as a person (besides mostly uh. being a sequencer. they know THIS for sure). they will also do far too many risky and impulsive things. they are also sensory-seeking as fuck they will feel awful if they do not have any enrichment and yes they kinda do use that to cope
and unfortunately very often the impulsive and risky things they do are related to their mind ! yes they do also have a special interest on that kind of stuff just like i do
the most... normal thing on their list (at least for them) is probably just. zailing to the dawn machine and staring at it. it does feel much better for them to get their mind filled with the thoughts of THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN TH and don't really think about anything else and feel the emotions that feel nice to them and everything else that comes with it. oh, and it surely feels nice to have a purpose instead of just not knowing what to do and who they are. and they do that... relatively often? which may be unusual even for an average sequencer
there are definitely more things they do to cope (not even as much with living in the neath as much as just not knowing who they really are. and also feeling the urge to constantly need to do something. no matter how risky it is)
such as going to the sixth coil, during the estival, and waiting instead of lighting up the place immediately just to feel what is about to happen. or staring at the correspondence symbols just to experience whatever those can do to you. or taking far too much honey. much more than they should. or catching a bunch of bees just to try the red honey. or even fucking drinking like 50+ bottles of laudanum at once rinja what the fuck was that why would you drink 50+ bottles of laudanum (they wanted to know what would happen and the reason is still was just to feel Something). or zailing and not caring about troubled waters. or going back to the magicians purely for one specific small part of... that
no wonder nightmares is a menace they get the most often when their coping involves many, many Terrible Things that they do just to cope with whatever they have going on. to fill the hole they have inside of them and deal with not knowing themselves really all that much
It's almost impossible to make it out unscathed when it comes to living in the Neath, and not everything can be fixed with just a cuppa and a stint in the Beth (for given value of "fixed" when the Beth is involved). For all the strange things your characters have gone through, what are some strange things they do to cope?
#they are so abnormal but also ive literally just based them on whatever i feel fkfjfhfh#because of whatever i personally have going on#they just have so many possibilities and they Use Them#wow that is. a lot of text. may edit it later to add more info lol#absolutely love how different our replies are btw#fallen london#failbetter games#[other people's posts]#(but with my addition)#[Rinja || The Light-Seeking Captain]

[ main blog - @rinja-espurr ]
welcome to my FL/SSea/SSkies/MoTR sideblog :) I post a lot of FL stuff on main as well but I'm gonna reblog a bunch of FL stuff here too (and post my FL-related art here). I have only one character (for now), so here's some info on this guy
[Rinja | The Light-Seeking Captain]
[they/them]
main stats: watchful | dangerous
Well, what can I say about this guy? They were just a normal person who got into the Neath out of pure curiosity. Everything, EVERYTHING they do is driven by a burning desire to find out. Learn everything they can. Find anything they can. Do anything with it, test it out, even if it means do that on their own self. And Neath is a perfect place for this: there are many, MANY things to find out, and you can't really die that easily. Living in the Neath quickly became natural to them. They love to spend a lot of their time on the Wolfstack Docks, and they were always drawn to the Zee. And there was a chance to explore the Zee in some way before getting their own ship, that is the Icarian Cup. I think they might have forgotten what the Admiral told them during their participation with the other captain. Anyways, as you can probably guess by their title... They became a Sequencer in result. Not very unexpected as they do not have a strong mind, really. Anyways, some time later they've managed to become a captain themselves, which gave them even more opportunities to explore. And they spend a lot of time at the Zee, and Zee is a dangerous place, so they often zail down to the Dawn Machine. Ah yes, normal way to deal with their feelings. Anyways, most of the stuff that is happening to them will probably be here in screenshots anyways. And drawings! I don't know what else to tell about them, really. Well, besides the fact that not only are they very curious, but very talkative. And friendly. And friendship with a sequencer can have... some consequences
