"You really should get your assistant to remind you when you have a meeting." Callum shook his head, nearly laughing at how rushed his brother always is. Why does it take him last minute to flake on him? He could have remembered he had somewhere else to be. Instead of giving Callum the hope of a quick lunch while he's away from bioTech; he kept a handle on his briefcase as he moved down the street. So much for catching up. He'd rather not think about the problems with his father. Their father he means.
"It is not my fault," Caleb scoffed on the other end of this conversation. "I am extremely busy lately. Maybe another time."
Another time. Always seems to be. Callum gave a sigh but realized it wouldn't do much. They're both busy. He just wonders how bad things are driving Caleb there at Atomix. Being CEO must be a killer.
Callum himself is on the verge of a run down. The executive at least has some downtime. He needs a new vacation. There is something coming up in Venice he has been eyeing. Maybe Daisy would love that.
"....."
He slowed his footsteps as the conversation hung in the air. Callum's distraction took a toll. In the way that he was not expecting.
Is that - Dahlia?
Sure enough his sister-in-law is leaving a club. Definitely not on duty. No she can't be because she's with a man. A man in a long black coat. The cane he gripped in hand is not the only stand out. He just stood out on his own. Slicked back dark hair, goatee and looking very much like some mafia elite. Must be his imagination. Of course it is. Dahlia is a detective but his imagination didn't conjure up the intimacy between the two stopping near a black Camaro. He put his hand on her backside. Pulling her in and talking closely, the man opened the door for her.
Callum watched the scene play out with his phone still hovering. Snapping out of it, he took a breath. "Caleb? Hello?" Damn it. He must have hung up.
He slid his phone into his pocket. Heading for lunch did not seem to be on his mind right now. Pretty quickly he turned around to walk back the way he just came. His car parked a few blocks away. Enough of a jaunt to think about who this mystery guy is. Dahlia isn't one to talk about her personal stuff. It's only just recently that they became close. Thanks to Daisy. But this. He wonders if she knows?
The question was on his mind while driving home. It stuck with him until he made it inside, depositing his briefcase as he did. "Daisy," Callum called for her before he found her fiddling with some new plants on the patio. "Hey, Daisy Day. Uh. You didn't tell me Dahlia had a boyfriend." That looked like he was a mob boss, remained unsaid.

Ask and she will receive his help. Taking the necklace in his hands, he lowered his eyes to the clasp. Unfixing it easily, Callum drew the gold around her neck. He fastened it and fluffed her hair back in place. One step around to see how it looked put a smile on his face.
He adjusted the flower to settle correctly. It looked far more beautiful against her skin. That’s a fact.
“There. Perfect.” Callum smiled, lowering down enough to put his lips to hers. “Oh.” He pulled away. “And these.”
A bouquet of yellow roses paired with white. Just the sunny disposition he was looking for.

Ringing out the rag in his hands colored the water in red. It was a surprise to see his ex-wife’s sister at all. He hasn’t exactly kept up with her family too often. That’s not to say he never sees them. He can count the number of times on one hand though. This is by chance.
Daisy was the youngest of three sisters. Callum always thought she was bright. A pleasant source of company whenever he would come around first attempting to woo Daniela. Seems so long ago. With him knelt in front of the younger Knights sister, cleaning off her hands carefully, he can say it was another lifetime away.
He felt extremely bad. Knowing what this was about as she briefly mentioned an injured dog it was not his typical thing to handle. She must have accidentally dialed his number. It’s the one explanation.
Did he care? No. He wouldn’t turn away anyone seeking help. Least of all he wouldn’t turn away her for anything. What would that make him? He isn’t that type of guy.
The quiet sniffles drew his head up. Focusing on her face instead is that -?
Callum clasped her hand. “Daisy,” soothing with his tone, brows scrunched together, he frowned.
Usually he was all smiles. The full dimpled white teeth showcasing his vibrant personality. Some said he was too open with it. A regular flashy executive with no care in the world. Oh but he had plenty of cares. In these last seven years divorced and trying to gain some semblance of new horizons in his life he found he cared a lot.
This time he looked nothing like that. He reached a hand up.
Gently brushing hair out of her face, Callum tried to hush her. Silently crying didn’t do much to hide from him. “It’s OK, Daisy. Just think that he’s no longer in any pain.” He cupped her cheek to his palm. Tear trails swiped away underneath his thumb quickly. “Hey, I’m here. It’s alright to let it out.”
