like no joke this actually sounds like what i would do ⁉️from not being able to sleep even though it’s 2am, to being an annoying piece of shit, to being stupid and wanting to stargaze although i live in the city, to ogling at iwa bc 😋, to falling asleep even though i was the one insisting on doing the activity

19. 3am date with iwaizumi hajime

“Psst, Iwa, are you awake?”

…

“Psst, Iwa.”

…

“Psssst.”

“Oh my god, what do you want, Y/N?” came the grumbled response from your boyfriend, the annoyance evident on his face as he flipped over to face you.

You offered him a sweet smile. “I can’t sleep,” you replied innocently.

Iwaizumi stared at you, unimpressed. “It’s,” he glanced at the clock, “2.30 and you’ve been up since 7 this morning. How are you not tired?”

You hesitated for a second. “I may or may not have had a cup of coffee after dinner earlier…” you trailed off, half-expecting a lecture from him. You heard him groan quietly before he pushed himself up into a sitting position, with you mirroring his movements so that the both of you were now facing each other.

“Okay, so what do you want to do?” Iwaizumi asked, breathing deeply as he stifled a yawn.

“...If you’re sleepy, you can just go back-”

“I’m awake now so hurry up and tell me what you want to do,” he quickly interrupted you before you could finish your sentence.

You felt your heart melt, because despite his cold tone, he was still willing to sacrifice his precious sleep hours to entertain you. It almost made you feel too guilty about pulling him away from his slumber.

Almost. Tomorrow was a Sunday, anyway, so you could both sleep in.

“Let’s go stargazing,” you suggested cheerfully.

“You’re kidding,” Iwaizumi all but snorted at your answer. “We’re living in the middle of the city, the only star you’ll be able to see is the Starbucks down the street.”

You pouted at him. “Aw, don’t be such a pessimist, Hajime. Maybe we can still see a few of them,” you insisted, trying to coax him into agreeing, “pretty please?”

It was the sight of you batting your eyelashes at him that finally made him sigh. “Fine. Let’s go,” he agreed, pulling the blanket off his legs and standing from the bed. He walked to the closet to grab a shirt and pull it over his head, as he was used to just sleeping in a pair of sweatpants. With his back turned to you, you managed to get a tasteful view of him from where you were still sat.

“And quit ogling at me.”

Oops. You giggled and threw the blanket off of yourself. You were already dressed in one of Iwaizumi’s old t-shirts and your own pajama pants so you immediately headed for the door, only to be stopped by a piece of cloth thrown over your head and blocking your vision. You yelped in surprise, tugging it off to see that it was one of your boyfriend’s jackets.

“Wear that, Y/N. We don’t need you getting a cold tomorrow,” he said, walking past you to get the keys to the front door.

You were more than happy to comply, slipping your arms through the sleeves that were too big for you and letting the bottom hang over your fingers before following after Iwaizumi. Your footsteps echoed in the empty stairway as the both of you made your way to the roof of the apartment building you stayed in. At last, the both of you reached the end of the stairs. Iwaizumi pushed the metal door open and you immediately felt the cool outdoor breeze seeping in through the newly-made opening.

You settled side by side on some old wooden crates someone had previously left there, your shoulders and thighs brushing against each other’s, and craned your necks to the night sky to look for the stars.

Alas, the city lights seemed to have eaten up all the natural light from the stars, and you were only met with the pitch black sky. The only visible object was the faint glow of the moon, partly hidden behind some clouds.

You huffed lightly, making Iwaizumi glance at you. Though he knew your chances of doing any proper stargazing was close to none, he couldn’t help but feel a dull twinge in his heart at your disappointment.

“You can say it,” you told him.

“Say what?”

“‘I told you so’ or something.”

“I wasn’t going to say that.”

There was a pause between the two of you.

“You can see the city lights from here, though,” Iwaizumi pointed out, his finger directed at the multicolored lights that shined from the city centre.

You hummed in agreement, averting your gaze from the sky to the buildings a few ways from the one you were in. White and yellow dots sprinkled all over the streets and the structures, vibrant and eye-catching colours beamed from electronic billboards and some recognizable logos from brands that resided there. You had to admit, it was still a pretty view, even though it wasn’t what you were initially hoping to see.

Minutes flew by as you shared quiet conversations about nothing and everything with Iwaizumi, from your wildest conspiracy theories to your deepest anxieties about the future. Without realising it, the drowsiness started to kick in and your eyelids seemed to grow heavier with every word you said, causing you to rest the side of your head against Iwaizumi’s shoulder.

At the contact, Iwaizumi looked down at you, watching the way you fought to keep your eyes open and keep the conversation between the two of you alive. He smiled thinking of your antics through the whole night. Where else would he find someone who would wake him up at 3am and take him stargazing on the roof of his apartment?

Stargazing. That was what you wanted to do in the first place. When he looked back up at the sky, he saw that some of the clouds had parted, letting the moon gleam in its full glory and- what was that? A single star was twinkling right next to it, fiercely competing against the artificial lights from the Earth.

“Babe, look, a star.” Iwaizumi gently nudged you, nodding his head up at the sky. However, the only response from you were steady inhales and exhales. He looked down at you again, confused, and saw that you had, in fact, fallen asleep on him.

He couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped his lips, shaking his head at you. He moved his arms to tuck them underneath your thighs, maneuvering your body so that your chest was resting against his, and lifted you up. His heart skipped a beat when you, still asleep, instinctively wrapped your own arms around him and buried your face in his neck, your soft breaths tickling him. In this position, he carried you all the way back to your bedroom and set you down on the bed, covering you with the blanket before joining in right next to you.

Iwaizumi stared at your face for a while, admiring how beautiful and peaceful you looked. With a small smile on his face, he leaned in and hugged you against him, pressing a kiss on your forehead.

“Good night, Y/N.”
