@amity-and-enmity; continued from X;;
She had been through this before with the others. So many people came and went, trying everything they could to get her to say something, anything, but she wouldn’t. She didn’t trust them, not a single soul. How could she? Every time she thought she could let someone in, they betrayed her. Sigh. But maybe, just maybe, if she played along just a little they would finally leave her alone? Doubtful, but worth a shot, right? Perhaps...
Finally tearing her eyes away from the ground, she looked up at the others playing before finally settling on the man beside her. He didn’t make any sense...
“---Why are you here?”

“---Are you a good guy or a bad guy?” A trick question really; she wouldn’t have approached him otherwise. Safe to say she’d been doing some checking; oftentimes putting herself in more dangerous situations by doing so, but he seemed... different? She hadn’t seen him take a bribe or look the other way when someone did something wrong. Then again, her intel consisted of a grand total of a week’s worth of surveillance; maybe she missed something. God, she certainly hoped not, but just in case, she kept her distance; ready to run the second he tried anything suspicious. Tiny as she was, she was fairly certain she could outrun him if the situation called for it; or at the very least, she would try.

“If you want to be someone’s friend, you have to express your like towards them; otherwise how will they know?” That’s right! How could they know she cared if she never actually told them, so... she tried. Of course, things didn’t work out quite as planned. Perhaps it was better to keep her emotions to herself after all. When placing the stuffed animals into their hands, A just sort of stared at her. B proceeded to look at the stuffed animal before turning back to her and laughing. Yeah, she wouldn’t even dare to try with anyone else. That doctor guy was a LIAR. Not that either boy had seemed necessarily mean, but maybe it was just time for her to accept she was no good at making friends. ---Uh oh, someone had entered her room. Maybe if she stayed very still in the pile of stuffed creatures, they’d think she was gone and go away.

Hiding behind large objects seemed the thing to do when everything was loud and monsters prepared to attack. Of course, these monsters weren’t what you read about in stories. Actually, despite other children’s fear of them, the redhead would have actually been far less terrified if their outsides had matched the insides. Moments tick by, her hands over her ears as the world around her seemed to be closing in when suddenly, it just stopped. She’s hesitant; her movements slow as she peaked her head out of her hiding spot. It’s an old man! She’d never seen him before--- oh! The monsters aren’t breathing anymore...

She had been staring, watching the man from the shadows as he stood at the end of the alleyway. He must have seen her, but--- why did he stop? What was he waiting for? Go away, please! People had yelled at her quite enough this week. She wasn’t doing anything wrong! ( Unless you count the fact that she as outside, by herself, in the middle of the night. ) Maybe he wasn’t here for that though? Perhaps he was nice? Hopefully, but not likely.

@clovisxbrowning; child! Jinx s.c;;
Three weeks ago, she had called the police to save her from the Kraj, only to realize some of them were in on it. She was scared, alone, and had been cooped up in an old, abandoned building ever since. It wasn’t exactly safe, food was difficult to come by, but well, she was doing her best. The place she had found kept the weather out well enough and was only used every Wednesday and Friday for a sort of fight club, so as long as she stayed really quiet during those times, it worked out. That was, it did until the stranger invaded her place.
He had seen her; she knew he had, but that didn’t stop her from ducking down in attempts to mostly remain hidden from him.
“---You’re not supposed to be here... Go away, please.”

@withakickinthehead; send ❀ to put a flower crown on my muse’s head;;
Even with as young as she was, the little redhead rarely trusted adults. Time and time again, they had proven to her just how unreliable they really were. She wanted to help; to put an end to the bad things going on around her, but try as she might no one ever believed her. It was because of that very reason that her initial response to the stranger’s appearance was, well, mean. She had wanted nothing more than for them to go away and leave her alone, but when they returned with a present in hand and placed it upon her head? Oh, despite her suspicions she couldn’t help the small smile that came to her features. Sure, it wasn’t the most grand of gestures, but it meant a lot to her.
“—Thank you… It’s very pretty…” Her words were quiet, her hands lightly fidgeting with the crown as she spoke; smile gradually growing before falling into a look of confusion. “I was mean to you; why are you being so nice, mister?”

“---I’m not supposed to talk to strangers, miss.”
She wasn’t, but that had never stopped her before. Then again, the circumstances had changed since then. Daniel wasn’t here to help her anymore. She had to play things smarter if she wanted to survive. People, adults, couldn’t be trusted. The last time she’d spoken to someone, they got her into trouble. Whatever game this was, even if it what they said was true, the risks far outweighed anything good the other could give in return. At least, it sure seemed that way.
“---You’re gonna get us both in trouble.”

“—He was gonna hurt a momma raccoon! If he did, she would have bitten him and he would’ve deserved it, but she still would have gotten in trouble!” she had read enough books to know what happens when an animal bites a child and it was obvious she was more than a little upset by it. The boy she had hit was older than her, he should have known better. “Picking on animals is not nice!” she paused in her ranting, looking at Bucky before frowning a bit. “I hit his bone, so it kinda hurts…”

“---I’m not lost; I just don’t know where I’m going yet.”
That wasn’t necessarily true, but it wasn’t really a lie either. True, she’d been wandering for the last hour with no indication to where she was, but didn’t you need a particular destination in mind in order to actually be considered lost? She didn’t recognize any of her surroundings though, that was dangerous; perhaps running off on her own hadn’t been the best idea. Then again, staying hadn’t been an option either. Hmm...

“Tears are handy for washing away troubling and sad feelings. But when you grow up, you'll learn that there are things so sad, they can never be washed away by tears. That there are painful memories that should never be washed away. So people who are truly strong laugh when they want to cry. They endure all of the pain and sorrow while laughing with everybody else.”
“---I don’t know if I’ll ever be that strong. I wanna be, but...” she paused, putting her face in her hands with a sigh, “---the tears don’t make it go away; they don’t make it better. Sometimes it’s just too much. Then, other times, I don’t really know if I feel anything at all. Growing up is confusing.”

“—MISTER RACCOON, WAIT UP!” A light laugh escaped the child as she chased her companion down the street. They had been playing for a while now; getting looks from passing adults. It was late; a child shouldn’t be outside right now, nevermind playing. She hadn’t paid it any mind though, at least not until she ran straight smack into a stranger; her tiny furry friend leaving her in the dust. “—I’M SORRY… I DIDN’T SEE YOU…”

“Wanna play?”
@of-fortuity; send “Wanna play?” for our muses to meet as children;;
His words were met with a look of confusion. Very rarely did anyone ask the little redhead to play and usually when they did, there was some sort of snickering that followed soon after, but that didn’t seem to be the case this time; odd. Of course, it could just be a trick. Last time she’d trusted someone she ended in the deep end of the pool. Then again, they weren’t around any large bodies of water this time; perhaps she could give him a chance? After all, he didn’t look very mean, but maybe that was a trick too.
Shutting her book with a light thump, Jinx shuffled to stand, watching the boy for a moment longer before opting to give him a chance.
“—Okay,” tilting her head to the side, a small twitch of a smile came to her features. “—What would you like to play?”
