Seeing them was a gift, finding out she had nieces and nephews had been a shock. Albeit unsurprising given her history with her sister Veronica. Seeing them in the flesh was something different, they were her flesh and blood, even if they didn’t consider her to be so. “You’re here, I wasn’t expecting you for another hour - I haven’t even put the tea on to brew yet.”

                            In his Descendants verse, Nate legitimately does not believe he’s ever been loved. He cares about Chuck deeply, and believes in their friendship above all else, but he can’t bring himself to call what’s between them LOVE, solely because he doesn’t know what love feels like. He was all but abandoned by his mother, Alice, and while Mirana obviously cared for him deeply, she was never very motherly towards him, and certainly never said the words ‘I love you’ to him, simply because she worried that she was accidentally taking Alice’s place as his mother, and because the people of Underland practically worshipped Alice, that was the last thing she wanted to do. The idea that Alice had quite literally left her son in another world with no intention of ever coming back for him never seemed to change Mirana’s mind - she still told him Alice was his mother, that she was merely a caretaker, and despite the fact that Nate cares deeply for Mirana and the rest of the Underlandians, it’s created a deep-seeded feeling of abandonment within him, and leads him to throwing himself into crushes and chasing after the wrong sorts of people all the time. He falls in love - or at least, what he calls love - easily, quickly, without a second thought, and usually ends up hurt because of it. He’s harbored brief infatuations with all of the girls at Auradon Prep - though the longest and strongest of these crushes has been towards Audrey, - as well as Chad Charming, and a few others, but those crushes and infatuations have never led to anything simply because Nate avoids even mentioning it to them, out of a fear of them also abandoning him, choosing someone else over him, or any other number of things.
