a starter!!! for @deterioate
Tatum was only at the station for one reason and one reason only; to speak to her father about her wedding. That morning she had picked up her engagement ring, found the flowers she wanted, and even found a nice dress that would do. It was productive but she was drained and a part of her felt like something was off or missing, or wrong in general. She couldn’t quite pinpoint it and figured maybe, just maybe her father knew what was really going on or could even lead her in the right direction to a stable mind. The brunette knew the station like she knew the back of her hand, every deputy and desk jockey, she even knew where they hid the good coffee so walking in like she owned the place was nothing new to anyone. Greeting everyone as she passed by, Tatum made way to her fathers office and as she found herself getting closer she noticed the door was closed. A rare occurrence, but Tatum pay much mind to it. Without even knocking she swung the door open with a bright smile, “Dad, I got my ring--” And instantly she cut herself off, that bright smile turned down and the woman found herself halting in her steps. Her body instantly turned numb, cold, and she felt like she was suffocating. There he was; Elijah, standing there with the same statue she once remembered, the same man she once adored. Elijah, the man she thought she’d marry and grow old with, the one she gave her heart too when she was too young to even realize what love really was but didn’t care. The same man who ripped her heart out as if it was nothing. Tatum told herself to act calm, cool, and collected, to breathe but all of that was out the window the moment her green hues landed on him. Her instincts were telling her to run, to move as quick as possible and to never look back but she knew she couldn’t do that, not after she had so clearly made herself known.
“I... I’m sorry.” She muttered, her voice quiet and wavering. “I didn’t mean to barge in... I-- Elijah, it’s good to see you.” She didn’t know how to do this, how to act as if she was okay with him. She tried to tell herself she was; she was in a committed relationship with a great guy, engaged, looking to buy her own house. She was a school teacher and she was good but this? This made her feel empty and lost and confused and she hated it.
