Staying in the meeting room once the meeting had wrapped up had never been something she did. This time, however, she lingered by the table until the last outsider had exited the room. “Did you ah... notice how the Sävelsalos were around both the Ukrainians and the French at the party? They seemed awfully friendly. I’m sure it’s nothing but...” [ @aromancva, @rcmvncv, @cksvnv ]

“ so. the king of ukraine. ” the initial objective of their operation was to gather evidence. the best way to present it was still a murky point in their plans. “ are you close enough to assess him? he’s...reasonable? ”

meet oksana markovnikova, the daughter of a university professor and a nurse. not very special but not at the bottom of the pit either. it meant that both education and hard work were respected in her home. oksana was closer to his father, mainly because her mother worked quite a lot and was snappy because when she got home she had to do chores. oksana’s father had every reason to be a happy and attentive father.
her mother would have preferred to put her in a vocational school, so that she would learn something ‘useful’. oksana was a good student and with her father in the academic circles, it was a small surprise that oksana ended up doing what her father wanted, not what her mother wanted.
oksana went to study math, statistics to be specific. when that didn’t feel like enough she continued to study and got a degree in social sciences. she practically lives and breathes normal distribution. she appreciates her math degree but she knows how poor a decision it would have been to just stick to math. social studies, analyzing demographics, solving nation wide problems... it’s her heart is. she feels accomplished and important when she’s doing work that matters.
oksana is humble. in the sense that she’s got a fair amount of life experience and empathy. while it’s difficult to be a politician and to be empathetic, while looking at numbers and statistics she tries her hardest to remember the people behind the numbers. greater good is not an excuse she uses. she might not always come across that humble since she has a very inflexible stance on numerous issues. she’s very principled and will argue until she has no voice to win a fight. she knows she’s not more special than anyone else but she knows what her worth is and when to demand respect.
oksana forgets about formalities. it can easily make her seem rude or like she’s without manners. it’s just that she doesn’t really believe in social hierarchies. she respects, say, workplace hierarchies: there’s a boss, there’re employees. no company runs if everyone’s equal. however she does not believe that you can be born to be something greater than. everyone deserves respect but no one can demand submission.
it’s why she didn’t think twice about calling the russian crown prince stupid when she heard him say something she did not agree with. the royal rarely attended university parties but the bigger, more traditional celebrations apparently were worthy of him ( direct quote from a 25-year-old oksana ). she often wonders what would have become of her if she hadn’t been seated at the same table.
because after that evening she would actually strike up a conversation with the royal. after that evening she started noticing him at the university library. before either of them had realized, they were practically study buddies. late nights, lots of coffee, stupid jokes, endless amounts of complaining, alexei romanov is one of the three true friends she got from university. he is undoubtedly the closest one.
she didn’t think twice when he offered her a job by his side. they made a good team, he had influence and that influence trickled down to her. she could help. she could make a difference. she could be part of developing the broken country.
she never could have dreamed of becoming a duchess. it had never been a dream. it had never crossed her mind. truthfully, she didn’t find it a very glorious position. but it was a favour to lyosha, of course she said yes. the same thing happened with the title of a grand duchess. she never aimed for it, never really wanted it but somehow ended up with the grand duchy. a favour for lyosha.
she has always called herself a patient woman but vitaliya and the duke of komi are truly testing her limits.

“He has officially lost it. He told me to pick a date so we could go through with the marriage. I told him I’d think about it a while longer... I think our timing was good. Our play has come to an end.” [ @aromancva / @cksvnv ]

they’d been holed up in her room for HOURS at this point, examining the issues of ukrainian occupation from every angle. it’s rather telling when anya is the one to request a break and pull the dark chocolate truffles she kept hidden in her desk. the fine cocoa melts on her tongue as she holds the bag out in offer. ❝ if only we could direct vitya’s machinations towards yurivič. TWO BIRDS, one stone, ❞ she sighs. ❝ we should never have been here in the first place. ❞ but this was meant to be a break, so anya offers a nicety in place of her speculations. ❝ what do you think of the program so far? ❞

“ i apologize for work taking me away -- the urgent gets prioritized over the important so often. ” and perhaps passing legislation lyosha DID agree with was as much effort as anya was willing to extend towards mending that particular fence. “ where do we stand with milena and zhenya -- shall i speak to them more? ”

16TH OF NOVEMBER
The last grand meeting of the year in Northwest Russia was held this morning.
The meeting was lead by the Grand Duchess of Northwest Russia, Oksana Markovnikova, who was standing in for the czar. The practice is not uncommon in Russia. The grand duchy’s strategy for 2022 was finalized and approved in the meeting.
What was unexpected was how the duchess of Murmansk was unable to have a single one of her proposition approved. It is uncommon for the vote to be unanimous but each of her propositions were voted against by the members of the cabinet. The strange reception of the proposals has given room for speculation. It is possible that the young duchess is being smoked out of the cabinet by Markovnikova or the czar himself. It is almost certain that she has fallen out of the czar’s favour.
