I miss you every day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made a sanctuary for Rachael to help deal with the grieving process.
it's been a long time now, but i still visit every day.
Some day I will visit her real grave, over near St. John.
Till then, she has her own sanctuary in my village.
I'll see about uploading my dream code some time if anyone wants to visit on their own whim.

Sylvie,
There’s so much I would like to say to you, some things I never told you, even though you probably knew. You were one of my closer friends on here, you were always here, constant, kind, patient and ever-caring. Almost my personal ray of sunshine and inspiration.  I loved you, friend. As quietly as a mouse, always proud of you and always reading your threads (with me and other people). I’m so proud of you and how your writing has progressed! You were--and still are one of my favorite writers.
I always won your giveaways, and I always had an inkling that you played a little favoritism there, even though I never brought it up to you. We’ve written together since 2015? A very, very, long time. I’ve always taken comfort in logging in (In my spotty activity) and seeing your little ooc posts, just reminding me that you’re here.
I will always remember you, Sylvie. I haven’t stopped crying since I found out, even coming back here, just for this post is painful. I’ll miss you more than you ever would have realized and writing won’t ever be the same for me. I know you wouldn’t want me to give up on it, but I’m going to take a little bit of an actual break here. You’ve made such a difference in my life and my outlook here, Sylvie. After my dad died, it was such a comfort, and even though I may not have been writing, I would log in, just to check on you.
Goddamn it.
Right now I just can’t--I just can’t do it. You’re missing, and it’s just not right here without you.

“Well, I wouldn’t have said it like that...” The young woman has a gentle vibe that is for sure. Don’t medics have to have a gentle hand, usually? A demeanour that says they care for others? Perhaps she wishes to be more headstrong.
“Is that something that bothers you?”

Mistakenship
This came to me in a fever dream. Thank @kusunokihime for insisting that I bring it to Tumblr, and for providing the muse Suigin Ryu in Minato’s life.
“Sorry, I can’t stay late today.” Minato was already packing up his paperwork. Thank goodness today hadn’t been too hectic, and he was actually going to finish on time today. If he’d had to tell Ryu they’d have to reschedule again, she might just kill him.
Well, probably not. But she’d be upset – they’d been planning this movie night for weeks now.
“Yeah, I get it.” Takashi winked in Minato’s direction. “Don’t worry, I can finish up here.”
“Uh, thanks.” Minato frowned in confusion but kept packing. If he hustled home, he would have time to change and shower and still be able to get to Ryu’s with time to spare.
“Someone’s eager to get out. Gonna spend the evening with your girlfriend, is it?” Manami asked from the next desk over.
Minato almost dropped the scroll case he was holding. “E-excuse me?”
“The girl with the white hair, whatever her name is.” Manami continued, not looking up even when Takashi bit back a laugh. “You’re going out with her, right?”
“N-no?” Minato managed. He and Ryu hadn’t… they’d not even discussed…
“Oh, I get it.” Takashi grinned, turning back to his work. “Yeah, I wouldn’t admit it either.”
Minato froze. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He asked, voice completely level.
“Well, she’s from some other country, right?” Takashi continued, oblivious, and would have said more if Minato’s shuriken hadn’t pinned his collar to the back of his chair. “Urk!”
“That sort of language is the source of half the problems in the village these days.” Minato continued, still without inflection. “I’d better not hear it again.”
“Uhh… sure thing, Mina.” There was a low murmur of assent as the dozen shinobi who’d turned to look at the thunk of the shuriken voiced their agreement. Minato, however, had already started out the door.
 -:-
“All finished. Here’s the record for ward seven.” Ryu handed the paperwork over with a smile. It had been a good day, nothing untoward had happened, and through the fervent application of effort and making herself scarce whenever she could, Ryu had managed to finish her duties on time.
“Excellent.” The next medic took the record. He was new; Ryu didn’t even know his name yet. “Everything normal with the perforated-”
“Yes, he’s fine.” Ryu was already taking her hair down. She’d scrubbed out and wanted nothing more than to sign out and get home.
“And the guy with the-”
“On new medication, seems to be going fine, it’s in the report.”
“And the-”
“Inspection for tonight, reassess tomorrow morning.”
“And-”
“Trust me, it’s in the notes.” Ryu was all ready to leave for the evening before this new medic looked up.
“I’m sorry, do you have somewhere to be, uh…?”
“Suigin Ryu.” She didn’t ask his name; she’d learn it soon enough, and she was in a hurry. “And yes, I do.”
“That’ll be your boyfriend, huh?” A passing nurse asked from behind Ryu. She froze.
“My… my w-what?”
“The handsome one with the blond hair. Always polite and helpful.” The nurse gave Ryu a knowing look. “He’s a real catch, actually.”
“M… Minato? He’s… he’s not…”
“Uh huh. Sure thing, honey.” The nurse scoffed good-naturedly. She took the record of Ryu’s duties from the speechless medic. “I’ll sort this out, you have fun. See you in the morning.”
“T-thanks. You too!” Ryu managed as she left the hospital with such alacrity as might justify the word ‘fled’.
 -:-
Minato, now in a t-shirt and jeans rather than his shinobi gear, was still thinking about the implications of earlier when he knocked on Ryu’s apartment. Did it really seem like she and he were…?
The door opened to Ryu, in similar civilian clothing. “Hey, Minato. You’re early!”
“I got out of work faster than anticipated.” He smiled and held up a shopping bag. “I brought food!”
Ryu smiled broadly. “Awesome! It’s been a long day, I really didn’t want to cook…”
“I hear that.” Minato followed Ryu into the apartment’s living space, which was best described as ‘cosy’. It was dominated by a television in one corner that had been an absolute bargain, and a blanket fortress that would provide a perfect place to sit, watch mind-numbing movies, and eat dinner in.
“How was your day? Same as usual?” Minato asked, kicking off his shoes.
“Yeah, pretty uneventful. Yours?”
“Same.” He hesitated. “Something odd did happen as I was leaving, I guess.”
“Oh? Y-yeah, same here, actually.”
That made Minato look over to Ryu in concern. If the village miscreants had been making trouble again… he probably didn’t need to do anything, really, but still. “Nothing bad, right?”
“Oh no, no. What was your thing?” Ryu looked… embarrassed?
Minato mentally shrugged and continued. “Well, as I was leaving someone said something that… made me think I was missing something, I guess. Like when you can’t see something obvious, and you’re the only person in the room who missed it?” Or one of two people.
“I bet that doesn’t happen to you very often.” Ryu snorted, grabbing plates for the food Minato had brought. “What was it?”
“Manami – you’ve not met her, I think? – Manami… she didn’t ask, but she said something that implied she thought we were… going out.” Minato said, trying to keep his voice at an even speed rather than hesitating and rushing in turn.
There came a crash from the kitchen as one of the plates slipped from Ryu’s grasp.
“You okay in there?” Minato stuck his head round the door to see Ryu’s shocked expression. “Ryu? Talk to me.”
“Uhh.” Ryu recovered a moment later, setting down the other plate so she didn’t drop that one and casting around for a dustpan and brush. “That was unexpected.”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought.” Minato didn’t elaborate but knelt down to help clean up the broken plate.
“No, I mean that’s basically what happened with me. One of the nurses…” Ryu, going a warm shade of pink, couldn’t meet Minato’s eyes. “She said pretty much the same. That you were quite the catch.”
Minato snorted, almost dropping a piece of plate for the second time. “Did she now?”
Mhm.” There were a few minutes of quiet as they cleaned up the shattered plate. When they eventually returned to the blanket fortress, food in hand, they both hesitated.
“Look, Ryu.” Minato put his food down on the sofa, which had been stripped of cushions to build the fort. “I don’t wanna make things uncomfortable, but…”
“You’ve been thinking about… it.” Ryu finished, putting her food next to his. “Weighs surprisingly heavy on the mind, doesn’t it?”
“It does.” Minato took a deep breath. “And as much as I hate to just acquiesce to popular opinion...”
Ryu didn’t finish that one for him, just gave him a look that was half expectant and half trepidation.
Someone’s gotta say it. “… Will you be my girlfriend? For real?”
There was a pause that might have been a second or might have been a thousand years.
“Yeah. Yeah, I will.”

“ i struggle with the idea of anyone loving me unconditionally. ” (let's have some childhood trauma-rooted angst, shall we? :'''))
[ Poetry Starters | @kusunokihime ]
[ Under cut for length ]
Ryu has found her, again. Taking up space in the front room, knees hugged to chest as she sits on the floor in front of an open back door. There is an onslaught of rain, unrelenting in its downpour outside. It kicks up the scent of moss and something else; something familiar and nameless. Her forefinger and thumb had been worrying at an old split in her lip; no wonder it would never heal.
The moonlight shimmers on the raindrops that kick up from the ground, a wobbling image of silver-white in a growing puddle. Ryu’s hair is a mirror image as she pads barefoot across the doorway and takes a seated position next to the troubled warrior. It must have been in the middle of the night; but Kimiko had no true way of knowing. Time had slipped from her reality some hours ago, most likely. Who knew.
Ryu was quiet besides her, as she always was when she found her like this. The chill from a winter wind probably contributed to her waking; Kimiko’s toes and nose had become numb some time ago. She never managed to drag her lock-gaze from the scenery of the back porch to meet her silver haired lover, at least not until she spoke. It was those words that threw a heavy stone down into the pit of her stomach. Rusted hues flickered over to the medic, watching the twitch in her parted lips. Now it was her turn to look far, far away. Into the rain, the moonlight, and into a time that was no longer; but ever present, even still. Kimiko’s throat was waxy and dry as a result of reliving a few too many bad memories, coupled with the sixth night this week she battled against her human desire to sleep for more than a few blistered hours. It was something about those words that didn’t sit right with her. Though, it wasn’t because they were new. No, she’d heard a string of words like that before, time and again - be it from her own mouth or tripping over itself in the recesses of her head. Perhaps, then - it felt wrong to be coming from Ryu’s lips. Why should she say such a thing? It was falsities. The Suigin’s thoughts on the matter cast aside, she was loved, unconditionally, without a missing beat.
Kimiko found herself straightened; her chin no longer making an indent into her folded forearms, her shoulders pulled back rather than crowding her neck. For a long while, Kimiko stared at Ryu as though she had spoken in a foreign tongue. Despite the wounds that lay beneath her collected exterior, she must have known by now that Kimiko would admire, adore, and desire the woman until her final day; come whenever it may. But that didn’t much so matter, now did it?
The kunoichi knew all too well the dangers of a lingering doubt. A seed like that was sowed in the soil of childhood - and had been bearing ripe fruit well before a young girl could grasp a stable foothold in the world. Her gaze, credulous and baffled before, softened into resonant understanding. It wasn’t often that she saw herself in other people - a rarity that she could ever view herself in the lens of someone she loved so dearly. Kimiko hummed, the sound slipping under the dance of water on pavement, gravely and short lived. Her gaze returns then to the scene outside, where the rain failed to relent, and the puddle drank every last drop it could grab hold of. Odd, how nature reflects some of the most primal desires of human nature. The rain; released haphazardly from the sky and eager to find a new home; draining to the puddle, which takes its fill and doesn’t know when it’ll reach its edges. Not until the rain stops. “You’re right.” She murmurs, voice hoarse with the haunting of a time long lost, of loves hardly experienced. Taken away without notice; the heart a puddle awaiting a time where it may drink its fill once again. “But struggle as you might to believe it; it’ll still be there, waiting for you to come around. To see it for what it is, and take it in; rather than leaving it at the door.” A raindrop had found it’s way on her lower lash line, and when she blinked, it left a trail down the angle of her cheek. Instead of rubbing it away this time, Kimiko allows it to take its course down the curve of her jaw and the dip of her chin.
“The rain is only an idea until you’re caught in it - and although you get drenched, you’ll never drown. And although you can get dry, it’ll remain; in your skin, your clothes, ..your memory. You start to appreciate it only when it feels like it’ll be missing from the rest of your days. But in truth, it’ll always be raining somewhere - and soon, it’ll be at your doorstep once again.”

Given that Kura's announcement of his graduation to chūnin had been rather spur-of-the-moment, Ryū hadn't been able to prepare anything for him beyond a very sincere congratulations. But since he told her, she's been working on something more. "I'm late, but this is for you!" is her offering, holding out a package. Within is a custom-sewn leg pack with his name embroidered along the front, filled with various poultices and medical supplies. "For when I'm not there to do it myself, ne?"
||  The flak jacket was nice, the extra pay too... but to receive his first present ever all because he graduated from an exam... he would go through that hell all over again if it meant he got another gift.
Tumblr media
At first he was speechless, taking the neatly made leg pack in his hands. A warm smile began to spread across his face, pink coloring his cheeks then-- he started to laugh to hide the fact he wanted to tear up.
「 Thank you... I’ll treasure this forever! 」

Cont’d from || ☕
"Is that girl getting enough rest?"
If Konoha was lucky about one thing, then perhaps the abundance of dedicated hospital staff was one of them. As a medic who wasn't a stranger to the grime of both the battlefield and the operating table, Rin was thankful for any and every kind of help that the hospital got from her fellow medics alike. Which was why, whenever she was on shift, she made sure to check up on everyone when the time permitted. It didn't matter if it was through the act of eating in small groups, or when she was helping the junior medics with their charts, or even if it was just a few minutes of rest in the quarters; what mattered to her was making sure that everyone's stress level didn't go beyond their threshold. A medic's life was stressful. Everyday, they were subjected to all sorts of challenges which ranged from common colds, to injuries and fractures, and this was on a good day. However, on days where things turned for the worse, they were subjected to both the tears and spite of a patient's loved one, as they watch the white sheets pulled over the lifeless body.
In an environment such as this, how could Rin simply sit by and mind her own business? As one of the tenured medics in both the hospital and the field, it was simply impossible for her to turn a blind eye to anything that could possibly affect her colleagues.
Which was why she took notice of one girl in particular. A very diligent and gentle girl who often spend most of her time along the alcohol scented hallways of their workplace. "I told her to take a day or two for herself." Rin remembered Ryu's supervisor saying over the sound of pages being flipped through. There were many patient charts to be studied that day, and lending a hand before her own day-off didn't seem too much trouble to add on her plate. The Nohara was used to it after all, since there had been a period where they'd been understaffed as well.
» » »
"Ryu-chan!" Which was why, on days like these, Rin made sure to treat herself to something leisurely. Coffee, tea, perhaps a meal or two-- all in the company of friends. It didn't always have to be friends from the academy, at times, she enjoyed the company of her fellow medics, and Ryu who had been working extra hard for the past ten days...well, it felt like she wanted to treat her to something nice for all that dedication and care. "You're not late at all, I got here just a little while ago myself." She gestured for her to sit down, all the while handing over the menu for her her to look at.
"Thank you for meeting up with me even if you should be resting." Despite being the one who invited the young Suigin, part of her felt apologetic about taking part of her junior’s time, specially when she knew that the girl should be at home, taking it easy..

@kusunokihime asked:  ❌ || Constance Reveau, to Reiji: Just relax, it'll be okay
Tumblr media
The Connie’s family has owned a ninja weapons shop for years. Connie has seen many different ninjas since childhood and has become accustomed to them and made many friends among them. She never envied them and did not want to become a shinobi. She doubted she would be successful in this. She liked helping them with weapons and was happy. When she started working in the store herself, she always gladly helped the shinobi in choosing weapons.
She was carrying a box full of kunai and shuriken and didn’t notice the boy running into the store. They collided and fell, the box fell out of her hand and hit the boy hard in the leg. When Connie saw his reddened ankle, she felt guilty.
"Oh, I’m so sorry, it's my fault! Just relax, okay? Everything will be fine. I'll get the first aid kit right now... Or maybe it's better to take you to the hospital? Can you stand up?"
