One Piece Chapter 1088 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
So we're back for some more One Piece, and given the title 'Final Lesson' we look to be wrapping up the Fullalead incident.
A giant hand looms over the escape ship, but how will this part wrap up
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release also
A pre-time skip colour spread for this week to commemorate the Netflix live action, even though it comes out the end of next month
We start with a flashback of the 'first lesson' Garp gives to marine students as a guest lecturer
A baby and an old man are stranded on an island of fierce beasts, but you only have a boat that can carry two, what do you do?
Young pre-puberty Coby answers as you'd expect: give the boat to the old man and the baby
But Garp says that's wrong - with a projectile aid - you should leave the old man!
Not-so-subtle foreshadowing eh?
Prince Grus had that cap even back then
Lecturer of course displeased by Garp's statement, since all life must be valued, but Garp retorts that the potential of youth is limitless, and thus you have to protect the future
Flashing further but not in present day, we see the fallout of Amazon Lily where Coby was captured
It appears he offered himself in exchange for 800 other marines and a battleship
Back in the present and we're back with the giant hand, cannonfire being useless against it
Oda, man, why is Tashigi here? I was so excited to see her come on board to contribute to rescuing Coby but she hasn't even stepped one foot off this ship! No fighting, no cutting this giant hand, why do you keep giving her nothing to do? Even Helmeppo's doing something!
Justice will prevail seems to be the prelude to Garp's latest plan
Coby's gonna destroy the hand once Garp gives them an opening, Helmeppo will make sure Coby has a clear shot and then Grus will use his fruit to catch the debris
Coby has doubts, but Garp says to never second guess yourself in the heat of the moment
Y'know like he did against Luffy at Marineford...
Grus and Coby are on the move, and the pirates chase him thinking them weak without Garp
Helmeppo takes a cannonball to give Coby and Grus more distance
Aokiji's back to confront Garp, but tis but a scratch
Aokiji says he was worried, so Garp launches at him, saying it's proof he's gone soft
Garp's taking aim at the main pirate head, right for Pizarro
Pizarro tries to not get distracted, but he eats a Galaxy Divide to the face
Much like Robin's DF, Pizarro sustains damage when the island is hit, which is a gigantic weakness to the fruit really, Pica didn't have that
The impact was able to split the whole pirate head too, which Coby takes as an opening
'So what are you gonna do?' 'I'm gonna live up to his expectations' - that's a good response
More flashing back as Garp asks Helmeppo why Coby is always looking so beaten up
Knowing that he wasn't combat savvy, Coby has been doing extra training on the daily, on top of Garp's special training, including working on the battleship bags
HIbari fears for Coby, as Kujaku looks to flee and Pizarro brags about his size compared to Coby
Honesty Impact goes straight through the hand, and the arm!
Everyone's surprised at Coby's strength, except Garp who's doing his proud parent laugh
Grus catches the debris and Helmeppo catches Coby
Hibari with a tacklehug as well, Coby's been picking up ships quite rapidly in his last few appearances
Celebrations happen as Tashigi confirms the rescue
But of course, Garp tells them to retreat without him
Coby wants to go back, but Grus remains defiant
Garp says they're all the future of the Marines as he stays behind, impaled in ice and surrounded by Blackbeard's men
And a solemn look on Aokiji's face
Narrator tells us that the news will say that Garp is reported as MIA after rescuing Coby, but also the headlines will be overshadowed by the Egghead incident, where Luffy will take on a siege on the future island
A break? Oda was 5 weeks not enough for you!?
It was another really good chapter, one that cements the progress for Coby with that punch.
I will admit that the enjoyment was dampened by the lingering issues I've had with this part of the story; frequent breaks upon breaks have not helped with pacing and Tashigi once again appears but does nothing.
It's not hard Oda, you put her here for a reason right? We could've had her on Egghead right now conflicting over statements that Luffy has captured the guy the Straw Hats let her take the Punk Hazard kids to in order to get treatment. Where's Smoker in all this too? You couldn't even let her cut one person? Could've even had her cut some of the rubble that fell out of Grus' net but noooooooooo. Do something with her, Chekhov's Gun is meant to fire! Also I still miss Bogard.
Also we got nothing of Perona and Moria, which is weird. Maybe they're on the Blackbeard ship going to Egghead? Seems strange we don't see them at all during the incident aside from the flashback of how Coby escaped his cell.
Aside from that though it kinda ended how I expected, Garp always would stay behind to defend Coby. He's looking in a bad spot mind you, but I still can't convince myself he's dead. To be fair, I can't convince myself that Kaido and Big Mom are dead either, but with Garp it feels like with all the Ls Fullalead took they benefit more from Garp being alive and used as a bargaining chip the same way they intended to use Coby. Garp is not SWORD either so the Navy don't have that out to use. In addition, Aokiji's ice can be used for pain relief and the spire could in fact be closing his stab wound, there's more to his face than just sadness.
Now though it seems next chapter we will return to Egghead, a chapter earlier than I predicted, so that must mean that 1090 has something cooking. But once more we are forced to wait, why does Oda like making us wait?

(.-_.-') *me not also being a FNAF fan*
The only one who don't find this creepy is robin, Mj and Luffy. Two partners and one friend who is just as creepy.
Nami would have pictures for blackmail for law and to sell.
What would Lucy do for names? Would he have nicknames, the -ya thing or a combo of both?
OMGGGG they doooo! Aaahahhahahha 😅😊
I bet deku's punches are better than Garp's. (Garp is so proud) Deku is very Justice oriented but also very freedom oriented so include them both you get the perfect person. (But will never escape Garp's fist of love)
Martin would prefer red wine I bet, idk why it just suits him. (He is a wine mom)
Add on the fact that sanji a scared of bugs is even funnier.
Ace: *wakes up* SHIT I LOST AGAIN!
Zane: *still snoozing his ass off and being a rock*
Dahlia would also be best buds with law from the goth in them to the bioscientist
Hey @botankirishima just continuing the one piece fusion au here, because the thread became way to long..... again X).
But anyways here is a list of all the fusion we created so we can remember them more easily:
Luke: Ace/Luffy
Sapphire: Sabo/Luffy
Sam: Sabo/Ace
Axle: ASL
The favorite Lucy (Lucifer): Law/Luffy
Zane: Zoro/Luffy
Raphael: Ussop/Luffy
Louna: Nami/Luffy
Orchidea: Robin/Luffy
Seb (Sébastien): Sanji/Luffy
Cotton: Chopper/Luffy
Mel: Brooke/Luffy
Freddy (lovely named by one of my friends): Franky/Luffy
Arun: Jimbe/Luffy
Senshi: Yamato/Luffy
Caranougat: Katakuri/Luffy
Anchor: Shanks/Luffy
Crow: Law/Luffy/Kid
Coffee: Carotte/Luffy
Luther: Peter/Luffy
Doc: Peter/Law
And here are some my friends created will we were in a vocal on discord:
Sher (Sherlock): MJ/Law
Devil: Monster trio
Deku: Coby/Luffy
Mike (Micheal): Zoro/Sanji
Obsidian: Shanks/Mihawk
Harmony: Uta/Luffy
Asahi: Ace/Yamato
Spiderlily: Robin/Peter
Jester: ASL + Peter
Martin (Martinique): Tony/Shanks
That all of them :).
-------
MJ is a queen okay, Sanji can't get close to her for two reasons, one she can and will destroy him and two pouting Peter that it. Like I say goth to goth communication, Luther is the sunshine while Sher is the sunshine protector.
Everyone is just exasperated at Ace and Zane sleep competition at this point.
No no I get what you mean, Lucy the therapist will Zane is the emotional support dog and he will happily do it.
You forgot the two queen May and MJ, both of them and Luffy are the only one that can calm down Doc enough. Poor Doc having endless thought going through his mind, an a worrying anxiety level and enhanced senses, he is literally vibrating right now, somebody help this disaster of a man.

Romance Dawn for the East Blue
Inspired by @feriowind‘s blessed tweet about Yamato winding up on Dawn Island :)
Enjoy 4k words of the 4 brothers driving everyone  crazy :D
[Read on AO3 or below the cut]
----------
Slowly blinking awake, Yamato struggled to remember why he was lying on the beach of some strange island, the smell of sea salt and trash mixing in the air into something almost worse than the confines of his prison of Onigashima. Almost. It was still freedom after all, and Yamato would gladly take this disgusting smell over his father threatening to place bombs on his wrists.
Looking around groggily, his eyes finally fell on the sad, wooden remains of a small boat, a boat that Yamato had been using to sail this unfamiliar sea during the past weeks. And he finally remembered the terrible events that had led him to this island.
Yes, it was a dark, stormy night, the likes of which Yamato had never seen even in the unpredictable New World, and definitely not since his escape in the peaceful and calm East Blue. He had fought to keep his boat from capsizing, fighting against the strong winds and ocean currents all by himself for hours… but then suddenly, a Neptunian so large it could only have come from the Calm Belt appeared. Yamato had managed to fight it off but unfortunately, his boat suffered too much damage from the power of his Thunder Bagua. He was then forced to swim to the nearest shore with the last bits of strength he had left—
"I saw the Lord of the Coast attack the fishing boat this person was sleeping in. It was really funny, when they woke up, they screamed so loud I think even the people in Fuusha heard. And then they fell in the water while trying to stand up. But the idiot apparently can't swim so I had to go fish them out."
Yamato froze in place at the boyish voice who was retelling his heroic battle so rudely. Wasn't he allowed to at least pretend?
Another boy, this one sounding even younger, started snickering then. "I like this person, Sabo! They’re so funny!"
"Luffy, you're the last one who should be laughing here," a third voice sighed. "Anchor boy." Yamato could almost hear the cheeky smirk on his face as he teased this 'Luffy'.
“Don’t call me that!” the youngest one cried, sounding like he was about to fight the other boy.
“Ace, don’t provoke him,” the first boy chided. “You’ll wake the idiot with your fighting.”
That was it.
“Will you stop calling me an idiot?!” Yamato shouted as he sprung up to a sitting position, an embarrassed blush on his face.
They all paused at the sudden movement, blinking up at him in shock. Yamato glowered at them one by one, taking note of how tiny these kids were—the blond and the freckled one looked no older than 12, while the other could be maybe 8. The blond was the only one dripping in water, just as much as Yamato himself was, and Yamato could only assume this was Sabo, the one who had pulled him out of the water. That would make Freckles ‘Ace’, and the youngest one ‘Luffy’.
Yamato had to wonder, though, how Sabo was able to save him all by himself. Yamato was 16 years old, a lot older than however old these boys were, and he was Kaido’s son—meaning he was already much taller than some adults. Although, he supposed he had seen stranger things and people a lot stronger than a human their size should have been. An image of Oden during his execution came to mind immediately but Yamato quickly chased the memory away.
“Oh look, the idiot’s awake,” Ace said lazily, looking thoroughly unimpressed by Yamato’s glare and simply returning it with one of his own.
Luffy, on the other hand, grinned brightly, hopping over to Yamato to stare up at him with stars in his eyes. “Are those horns? Real ones?”
Blinking, Yamato’s hand automatically reached up to touch one of his horns. “Yeah?” he replied slowly, unsure of what he was supposed to say. Was it that weird to people not from the Grand Line to see someone with features like this?
“That’s so cool! Join my pirate crew!” His grin only widened with his request—or demand.
Yamato tilted his head to the side. “You have a pirate crew?” he asked, genuinely curious.
“Well, not yet,” Luffy said, a small pout appearing on his lips. “But eventually, I will be the Pirate King so of course I will have one!” he announced looking so proud and sure of himself and Yamato felt his lips twitch upward.
“Sure, King, I’ll tag along with you,” he laughed, seeing no harm in indulging the adorable kid. And who knew? Maybe he really would end up sailing with him. After all, in 12 years, the Nine Red Scabbards would come back to Wano and Yamato needed to be back there by then. He needed to help open the country.
And who was to say he couldn’t bring the Pirate King with him?
Sabo clicked his tongue then, walking up to Luffy and ruffling his hair. “Stop that, you don’t even know this person’s name.”
“Oh right,” Yamato said, hitting t he palm of his hand with his fist in sudden realization. “Sorry. I’m Kozuki Oden. You can also call me Yamato. Son of Kaido. Thanks for helping me.”
----------
“Ace! Luffy! What’s the meaning of this?!”
Yamato groaned; always a wonderful way to wake up. “Are you drunk again, you bull-gorilla? Go away it’s too early for this,” he shouted back, not even bothering to open his eyes.
There was a moment of silence until someone stomped over to stand right above Yamato’s head. “What did you just call me, you brat?”
Finally, Yamato blinked up at the person with long ginger hair, a cigarette between their lips, and looking decidedly female. He closed his eyes again, mumbling, “Oh you’re not my father. Whatever then.” As soon as he was done, he pulled his blanket over his head to try and get some more peace and quiet.
It might not have been his father but it still was too early for this.
“Dadan, shut up,” some one whined from somewhere around halfway down Yamato’s body.
“Yeah, what’s the problem?” another person joined in, their voice coming from Yamato’s other side.
Oh right. Ace, Sabo, and Luffy had brought him back to their place last night; this had to be the nasty old hag they mentioned. Definitely seemed like one.
“First Garp drops you two on me, then you bring in more and more kids with you? What do you expect me to do, this isn’t a daycare!” It sounded like the woman was on the verge of a mental breakdown.
Finally, Sabo spoke up, sounding about as sleepy as Yamato felt, “Dadan, this is our brother, Yamao. Yamao, Dadan.” With that, he flopped back down, his head coming to rest against Yamato’s thigh.
“I’m not a pillow, you three!” Yamato snapped upon the realization of how the boys were laying with their limbs thrown all over the place, Yamato’s own body included. “And it’s Ya-ma-to,” he added with a sigh, already giving giving up on convincing them to not use Luffy’s nickname.
“Where the hell did you manage to pick up another brother,” Dadan complained and Yamato was starting to feel a little sorry for her. He had to admit that dealing with these three was like fighting a hurricane and it hasn’t even been 24 hours since he met them. At least now he was there, a responsible teenager to keep them in check. She should really be grateful he happened to… choose this island to land on.
“Alright, kid. I don’t care who you are you where you came from—” the woman paused, folding her arms over her chest as she stared down and Yamato— “but I will not feed you. One bowl of rice per day is all I can guarantee you.”
Yamato laughed, “That’s not necessary. Oden could do it, I would be a disgrace if I couldn’t take care of myself and my brothers, too.”
Dadan stared at him for a moment, blinking once, twice, before she threw he hands up in frustration. As she walked away, Yamato could hear her mumbling to herself about stupid brats who couldn’t be phased by anything and how she was going to ‘let Garp have it’ the next time he ‘bothered to show his sorry ass’ there.
Yamato simply shrugged and went back to sleep.
----------
Life on Dawn Island turned out to be surprisingly easy and, even more surprisingly, fun. It didn’t take Yamato long to get to know the forest, the mountain, and the Grey Terminal beyond it, running around the place with his little brothers like he was born there with them.
“Yamao, where are you going, that’s the opposite direction!” Sabo called after him in exasperation, pointing the right way.
A few days after his arrival, he went to retrieve his kanabo from the waters just off the shore. Ace had looked at him, asking why he was so desperate if it was the same weapon the father he so hated used and Yamato couldn’t admit he had a point but… he simply didn’t feel right without it. It was his weapon as well now, and the bull-gorilla wouldn’t take that away from him.
It took him three hours of diving but the happiness and rightness of his kanabo next to him was well worth the effort.
“What are you two anchors doing?” Ace shouted from where he was in the water and towards the two at the beach, looking incredibly annoyed.
Yamato and Luffy exchanged a glance before turning back to Ace and replying in unison, “Building a pirate ship from sand.”
Just then, Sabo’s head popped out of the water next to Ace. “I need a break,” he gasped, struggling to catch his breath after being underwater for so long.
“This club of yours better be made from gold, Yamao, or so help me,” Ace grumbled before leaving Sabo to rest and diving in instead.
Once he had his kanabo in hand, it became incredibly easy to hunt even the most ferocious beasts around, allowing Yamato enough room to stay back and direct the young brothers, giving them pointers and helping them with their hunting techniques. Usually, he simply watched, letting the boys do most of the hunt, even if it meant the prey got away sometimes. After all, making mistakes and losing was a good way to get stronger. So he let them do their own thing while making sure they were okay, and only jumping in when necessary.
“Okay, here’s the plan. We go around the river, then we split up. Me and Luffy will go up while you and Ace follow the riverbed. It’s risky, but on my signal, you will catch its attention and keep it distracted. Then me and Luffy jump down at its head. Hopefully that will at least knock it out so you and Ace can then come help us finish it. And Yamao—” Sabo paused, giving Yamato a hard, subtly threatening look— “if you run ahead screaming and scare it off again, we’re having you for dinner.”
Yamato could only gulp and nod obediently.
He even managed to impress the local Madonna, the cute pub owner Makino. The first time she had come to visit after Yamato had arrived, she immediately dropped all the food, alcohol, and children’s clothes that she had brought, and ran straight to him. She gave him all of her attention the rest of her stay. And even though Yamato wasn’t interested, he had to admit that being fawned over, and especially the jealous stares all the bandits were giving him, felt great.
“Oh my,” Makino muttered when she noticed Yamato. “Luffy did say Yamao was a little taller than him but…” she trailed off, her expression turning troubled.
“You don’t have any clothes big enough for him, do you?” Dogra asked, munching on one of the cones Makino had brought.
The young woman shook her head, sighing, “I think I’ll have to make them all from scratch. Yamao, can you come here? I need to take some measurements.”
"Yamao, you're blushing more than Ace did!" Luffy pointed out immediately, clutching his stomach as he doubled over in laughter.
Yamato made sure his hand was coated in haki when he hit the boy over the head.
Over all, he had to say he much prefered the life of a cool big brother over being a pirate crew’s' ‘young master’. It was a lot more fun, a lot easier to breathe. He never felt more free than he did while laughing and running around the mountain, plotting pranks on their brothers with Ace, or getting grounded— getting thanked by Sabo for running off and beating up the pathetic excuses for pirates who had hurt Luffy and threatened the boys' treasure stash.
Even Dadan's frustrated screaming felt more loving than anything the bull-gorilla of a biological parent had ever shown him. And no, it definitely wasn’t much more embarrassing.
----------
"I don't want to be a marine!" Luffy screamed one morning just as the others were getting ready to head out to work their brand new tree house base.
Both Sabo and Ace froze, turning to stare at each other for a moment with wide eyes.
"Run?" Ace asked in a whisper.
"Run," Sabo nodded seriously before they both turned to look at Yamato.
The teen simply sat there, turning his confused gaze between Ace, Sabo, and the direction from which Luffy's voice came a few seconds earlier. "What's going on?"
Ace and Sabo exchanged a glance once more, seemingly coming to a mutual understanding before Ace answered, "Go see for yourself. Luffy could probably use the help."
Immediately, Yamato was on his feet, heading outside to save his adorable baby brother from whatever monster he was facing. He was slightly suspicious of the high five Ace and Sabo had exchanged, not as sneakily as they probably thought, but as long as Luffy was in trouble, it didn't matter much to him.
As soon as he made it outside the little house, his eyes fell on the two figures fighting just a little bit away from the house. Obviously, one of them was Luffy, who was visibly fuming; growling and snapping his teeth like he was getting ready to literally bite the legs off of his target.
The target in question was a tall, although obviously much shorter than Yamato, and muscular old man clad in a bright red and white aloha shirt, his arms crossed over his chest as he stared Luffy down. He looked thoroughly unimpressed by Luffy’s pistol punches—which admittedly still left much to be desired despite Yamato’s efforts to help him out; it was only a question of time before he managed to find the right bang feeling. The man he was fighting looked vaguely familiar but Yamato couldn’t place that face no matter how much he wrecked his brain.
But it didn’t matter.
“Luffy, are you okay?!” Yamato called in alarm, rushing forward while preparing to swing his kanabo at the stranger.
The both of them turned to look at him then, identical angry expressions on their faces and suddenly, Yamato realized who the man reminded him of. It was more than obvious where Luffy got his personality and expressions. Maybe he should… not attack this person on sight?
Making the decision for him, Luffy huffed upon seeing him approach, raising his hand and making Yamato stop. “Stay back, I’m fine! I can kick gramps’ ass myself!”
“Who’s ass are you gonna kick?” the man snapped, his light punch making Luffy clutch at his head. “You can’t win against the fist of love, Luffy!”
Yamato blinked. That was obviously haki but… fist of love?
Ignoring Luffy’s complaints, the man gave Yamato an obvious once over. “And who are you? Wait—” he paused, looking like he just remembered something— “you’re Yamao, aren’t you?”
“My name is Ya-ma-to, and I’m Luffy’s big brother,” Yamato replied, not entirely sure why he even bothered to correct anyone on his name at this point. No one ever listened.
“Part of the family already, hm? You have an impressive swing; you’ll make a fine marine.” The grandfather nodded, grinning at Yamato in approval.
Yamato did a double take. “I’m not going to be a marine!” he responded immediately, the horror he felt at the though clear in his voice.
“Exactly! We’re gonna be pirates!” Luffy joined in, fully recovered and launching a new rubbery pistol punch, which went completely ignored.
Gramps puffed up, raising his fist threateningly in front of himself. “Nonsense! All four of you will be the strongest marines the navy’s ever had if I have any say in it!”
“No way!” Luffy and Yamato cried in unison, the both of them jumping at the man in a joint attack.
A second later the both of them were rolling on the ground together, clutching at their heads and trying to recover from yet another fist of love. Seriously, Yamato only just met this guy, why was he getting a fist of love? Or better yet, why did it sound like he was already considered a grandson? He didn’t even know his new grandfather’s name.
He guessed it was simply one more proof of his relation to Luffy. It was exactly the same to when Luffy had decided by himself that Yamato was the big brother now, not even half an hour after meeting him, and just like back then, Yamato was powerless in defying that decision.
Not like he wanted to. He would be lying if he said being considered family so easily, so warmly, so unconditionally didn’t make him happy. But still…
“I’m already a pirate,” he growled. Not to mention marines did nothing but fight Oden and the Pirate King’s crew. Like hell was he becoming one of them.
Gramps took a deep breath, looking like he was about to explode, but Yamato interrupted him. “The navy wouldn’t want someone with my blood anyway. They’d execute me on the spot,” he said flatly, looking the man straight in the eyes, trying to convey how disgusted by the institution, the world government, the current world he was. Like hell was he participating in that. He’d much rather wait patiently for the one who was going to change it all and support them.
Neither of them said anything for a moment, neither of them faltering as they stared each other down silently. Until finally, gramps grinned, a smile so similar to Luffy’s that Yamato startled.
“If blood’s the problem, all the more reason you should join,” he announced, the smile never leaving his face even as his eyes turned almost sad.
Yamato tilted his head to the side as he watched the man slowly look at Luffy before his eyes slid in the direction of the bandits’ house. When Yamato turned to look, he could see Ace turning around and walking away, Sabo quickly following with a worried expression on his face.
Well.
At least Yamato wasn’t the only one who obviously hated his biological family around here.
Deciding to leave Ace in Sabo’s hands, Yamato turned back to the problem at hand but before he could snap at the man, Luffy did so for him, “No. He’s joining my crew!”
“Over my dead body!” gramps roared in response, looking like he was going to go off on a rant.
Yamato, however, wasn’t about to sit around and listen to that. “No, over my dead body. Do you even hear how fucked up it is that you need to join the navy to be safe from getting hunted? Neither of us going there,” he growled, baring his teeth for good measure.
The old man paused, blinking at Yamato once, then twice, before he burst out in laughter, one so loud, so honest, and so contagious that, despite having no idea what was so funny, it made even Yamato want to laugh. All his anger was forgotten as his lips stretched in a grin, shaking his head at the sudden realization of how weird this entire situation was. He barely knew what was even happening but… it wasn’t like Yamato ever really paused to think about things. If it felt right, he’d go with it. If it didn’t, fuck it.
And this, incredibly, felt right.
It was only a long while later that gramps finally caught his breath enough to speak, “I like you, kid. Are you sure you’re Kaido’s son?”
As if hit by the bull-gorilla’s Thunder Bagua, Yamato stopped laughing, only staring with an open mouth as dread ran through him. “How?” he could only say after a dreadfully long moment of heavy silence. Or maybe it was only a second. But it was too much, and made Yamato feel too on edge. Ready to fight. He didn’t want to even hear the bull-gorilla’s name; definitely didn’t want to hear it in relation to himself.
Gramps looked at him as if asking if he was kidding then, but with his only answer being a glare, he started laughing anew. “Kid, if you don’t want people to know, or the asshole finding you, maybe stop introducing yourself with ‘son of Kaido’ to anyone you meet. You have poor Makino quite worried.”
Oh.
Whoops?
“Yamao, you’re stupid,” Luffy laughed.
The teen huffed, shoving hard at Luffy’s shoulder. “You’re stupid,” he hissed back, making Luffy stick his tongue out at him.
Yamato saw it only fair he do the same in return.
Just then, a dark shadow loomed over the both of them and they slowly looked up, only to see gramps looking down at them with an evil grin on his face, slowly cracking his knuckles. “Whatever you say, I will train you stupid brats into proper marines, yet.”
Yamato finally understood why Ace and Sabo’s immediate reaction was to run, then send Yamato as what he could now only assume being a sacrifice. There was no way even Yamato was going to be a fair match for this man. “Oh fuck,” Yamato cursed, scrambling to his feet to follow Luffy, who who was already hafway down the clearing away after taking the first popped knuckle as his signal to bolt.
“Watch your fucking language in front of your baby brothers!” gramps shouted after him just before something that might have been a pine cone flew past him at an impossible speed.
Yamato and Luffy exchanged a glance, identical grins spreading in their lips before they both took a deep breath. “ACE! SABO! HELP!!”
If they were to die today, they’d make sure to take the other two down with them.
----------
Hours later, Yamato lay awake in his bed on the floor of the mountain bandits’ cabin long after his brothers started snoring softly. He was exhausted from the day spent laughing and running away from gramps—or Garp, as he had finally learned earlier that evening once Dadan finally stopped hiding from the man—but as opposed to the others, he didn’t want to sleep.
Not when gramps and Dadan were busy talking on the other side of this thin wall. What had started as the two of them sharing their frustrations and complaints about their kids quickly turned into fondness as they instead told each other stories about the brothers and their antics. Yamoto wasn’t surprised the bandit knew exactly where their secret base was, just as he wasn’t surprised by Garp only pulling out the most embarrassing stories he probably could.
It was a good thing the other three had managed to pass out the second their heads hit their pillows or they’d be trying to fight the old man all over again over it.
Yamato, on the other hand, refused to miss out on a second of this. The adults might not have allowed him to drink with them, claiming Yamato was too young for that—to which he not-so-politely disagreed, but then Garp’s fist disagreed with him—but they couldn’t stop him from listening. Those were his brothers they were talking about and he wanted to hear all about the past ten years of their lives that he had missed.
And if he maybe got a little bit happy every time they brought Yamato up, well… no one had to know that.
“Yamao, I swear if you don’t stop laughing at their shitty stories, I will strangle you with your own hair.”

So... random One Piece post
I’ve started watching it again because I REALLY wanted to see the Wano arc and, of course, I couldn’t do that without rewatching the whole thing from the begining in my current state of critical thinking. This was important in the sense that my opinion on a bunch of things has changed. There are things that I found irritating the last time I watched it that now I find hilarious. And I have a whole new apreciation of the insane amounts of foreshadowing and early references Oda makes almost from the begining. Things that seem throwaway coments that later are revealed as esential to the plot.
But this post in particular was suposed to be about how much I fucking hate Sengoku this time around (I’m up to Marineford. Apparently he gets some more moments after timeskip). Last time I mostly thought of him as a tired old man who had to put up with Garp’s brand of bullshit. I even felt kind of simpathetic towards him in that regard. Now I have fully realized this fucker is the topmost military/cop dude in the fucking world. Under a government that’s corrupt to the core and that has been corrupt since it’s very begining, some 800 years ago. There is absolutely no way he got where he is by being a remotely good person. And the whole Ace thing proves it. Sure, Ace is a powerful pirate. But this fucker planned to kill him as a baby. He tells Garp that he had a big part of responsibility in the mess that’s about to happen in marineford, and what he means is “you shouldn’t have let that kid live to adulthood”. And he says this to the (admitedly stupid) fucker who is just coming to terms with the realization that his grandson may very likely die. Fuck Sengoku. He is not planing to execute Ace for anything he actually did, he’s going to do it just because he was alive at all. And when Shanks gets there. I remember I saw that as some sort of noble understanding. Something like “Even Sengoku respects Shanks” when in truth it’s just that Sengoku already got what he wanted and is in no position to win against another Yonko. If Shanks had gotten there earlier and tried to save Ace, the fucker would have kept to his bullshit, even if a cease-fire was still sugested.
And Garp is a whole new character now too. Before, he was a funny old man with no serious regard for authority. Now I see him as an abusive caretaker. Mostly out of ignorance than genuine lack of care, but the fact remains. And he is that kind of “parent” that sees the world trough a distorted lens. He loves his grandchildren and is secretly proud of their achievments even when he scolds them whenever they see him. But in his mind, that’s it. He loves them and that’s enough. He truly fails to see any negative outcomes. “Sure, I’ll try to arrest Luffy. Oh, look, he escaped. Isn’t that funny?” but he never truly stops to think that, because of the nature of his job and the path they chose, there very well could come a time when he’s gonna have to see them getting killed by order of his boss. And he keeps willfuly ignoring this right until the moment it happens. I can only asume he was actually expecting Shirohige to succeed in the rescue. But, considering he went out of his way to save the son of a pirate from being killed by the very people he serves I can’t really find a way to excuse that kind of blindness. I really hope he gets some development later on.

Turning back time - part 3
Marco couldn’t remember why he had gone back in time to this moment. he knew that the betrayal had set things in motions, but hadn’t his goal been to keep those alive he cared for? Had he tried to prevent Teach from escaping? Or was there another reason? He knew that Ace had to go and prevent Teach from capturing Luffy. It was why he only half-hearted let him go.
After the betrayal, everyone was trying to move forward, telling themseles that they chould have known sooner, seeing the signs. Whitebeard blamed himself for being so blind to Teach’s true intention, but Marco knew that they had done nothing wrong and Teach had decieved them all from the very beginning. It was hard to admit, but Teach was really good at it.
The months passed by far too quickly and while Marco was feeling happy - he was with his family again - he also knew he needed to prepare for what had yet to come. The war. It was tricky, as he knew that the deal was that he would forget what really happened, if he changed things. That the reality shifted upon the changes and therefor what happened in his future wouldn’t happen. He tried hard not to thin about time traveling, it only had him confused.
However, he couldn’t just stand by and see so many of his brothers die in the war. He wanted to save the lives of as many as possible. They would need a better plan and he would have to convince the others and Whitebeard about the plan. Without revealing too much of what he knew would happen. Instead he used the months to research the Devil’s Fruit abilities of the Shichibukai and the high ranked marines. It wasn’t too suspicious, as Marco long had wanted to do so.
This was why he could better change their plans in the war. It came, there was no question about it, as the events leading to it hadn’t changed. Teach had betrayed them and escaped and Ace had chased after him. Marco just changed a little of their plan to rescue him. He told the crew what he knew of the abilities of various of marines and the Shichibukai, he told them that Akainu was known to use whatever means necessary to maintain or secure absolute justice. Even if it meant manipulate pirates to do his job or kill his own marines, as long as the job was done.
Marco wasn’t overly too confident thaat they would succeed, as Luffy was still a wild card. Even if Marco knew what the kid would do in the war, he would react on instincts to the changes that might occur. However, Marco also knew that it had to be Luffy who freed Ace from the cuffs. It would then be Marco’s job to make sure the two got away and this time he would keep his head cool and not get caught.
At least he hoped so.
The war started off just as Marco remembered. Early on he was against Kizaru and he kept trying to be like he was in the war and back then in general, but also trying to keep himself from doing the same mistakes. It wasn’t easy, espeically when nothing he did could prevent him from saving Little Oars Jr. His heart cried out, knowing how much the huge giant meant to Ace and the others. Actually his heart cried even more, whenever he couldn’t prevent a family member from dying.
He could, however, prevent Squardo from stabbing Whitebeard. It felt good to at least make sure his father wasn’t wounded before entering the battlefield. No matter how dismissve Whitebeard had been about the wound, Marco knew that it had prevented his father from fighting better.
With that prevented, Marco kept going forward. He did fly to try and stop the execution and was only mildly annoyed that Garp stopped him. At least the old man wouldn’t participate in the war with all he had. The hit hadn’t even been that strong and Marco remembered that he later had mused to why Garp hadn’t been hitting him with full force and knock him out. Deep inside, Garp probably had hoped they would succeed.
And this time Marco would do anything he could so they could succeed.
The battle kept raging, Marco made sure to keep stronger marines away from Luffy, but also keeping an eye out for possible seastone threats to him and other Devil’s Fruit users. He was glad to see that his knowledge about the DF users in the marines and Shichibukai had helped and prevented a few unnecessary casulties. Jozu still had both his arms, but Doflamingo was a pain. Luckily Crocodile had decided to go against him.
When Luffy freed Ace, he cheered alongside his family. Mostly because he had succeeded so far, but also because Ace was free. Now Marco only had to make sure that Akainu didn’t punch a whole into Ace and that Ace and Luffy got away. It didn’t matter if Ace came with them, the only thing Marco was set on, was for Ace to survive.
So when Luffy dropped the vivre card, Marco rushed towards him, successfully avoiding getting cuffed with seastones. It felt so good, when he got between Ace and Akainu, taking the full hit. Needless to say, Akainu was pissed. He had the perfect opportunity to not only kill off Ace, but Luffy too and then Marco got in his way.
“Ace take your brother and get out of here. You need to make sure he gets away alive, yoi.” Marco ordered, knowing that Ace wouldn’t have gone, if Luffy hadn’t been here, wounded and beaten up. Ace stared at Marco, who was now enganged in a fight with Akauni, before he grabbed Luffy.
He made a run for it, trying to avoid capturing. His little brother was in danger and Ace had to make sure he got away. It hurt him that he left his family behind, the brothers he cared deeply for, but he also knew that most could handle themselves and Luffy was the weakest link here, though he had proven himself to be a real fighter.
Marco was annoyed that he still could remember that Ace died in this war, meaning that until Ace and luffy was safe, there was still a risk that Ace would die. Marco might have prevented Akainu’s fist from penetrating Ace’s back, but there was still other ways he could die.
He was therefor pleased when Whiebeard came to his aid, taking care of Akainu. Marco thanked his father, once more telling him how proud Marco was to be called his son and that he would carry on his legacy. With that, he flew away, searching for Luffy and Ace. He found them and to his relief, not alone. Jinbe, Ivankov and Thatch were with them, fighting off the enemies. Luffy didn’t look all too well and neither did Ace, but both were alive and it counted.
Landing on a marine zombie, Marco gazed worried at Ace, who held onto an unconscious Luffy. This was far from over and Marco wondered if Shanks would show up at all with the changes Marco had made. “Jinbe. Get Ace and Luffy to the sea. Here, yoi.” Marco handed the former Shichibukai two corals, hoping that he would understand. After all, Marco didn’t want to rely on Trafalgar Law and Shansk showing up.
Nodding, Jinbe did as Marco said, though Ace tried to protest. However, Ace was too exhausted, physically and mentally, to even stop them from doing what they did. Marco made sure he had their backs, instructing Thatch in keeping a path clear for Jinbe. They all had to leave and they had to do it now. Whitebeard had spoken, Marco had come to peace with his death, though it didn’t stop him from crying.
All that was left was to survive and get back to the New World.
His heart stopped, when Akainu came to chase after Jinbe, while Marco was busy keeping Kizaru from going after them. Hopefully Thatch could help them, but even that made Marco uneasy. Sure he knew he couldn’t be at three places at the same time, but he really wanted to make sure the admirals stayed away from Ace and Luffy.
Luckily, the young pink haired marine - Coby - did come between Akainu and his prey, after Crocodile and Buggy had mingled. Marco felt relief, as this was something he knew from his future. Sure enough, Shanks showed up and nw Marco knew they had won. That he had won. Because Ace and Luffy was safe and so was his family.
When both Aikoji and Kizaru attacked the submarine where Luffy, Ace and Jinbe where, Marco lost the memory of ever having gone back to the past. He had prevented the deaths he wanted and giving his brothers the chances to live.
The angel smiled softly, as the war came to an end and the bodies were taken care of. She looked to her left and spoke softly to the figure there. “You were right, Rouge. It had to be him changing the future. You really are the right person to take over my position.” With that, the angel handed Rouge a necklace, before she disappeared, giving the task of protecting the time stones and the bright future to Portgas D. Rouge.

Under the whale
The man was walking in the thick, dark woods. The night was slowly beginning to fall, the sky was tinged with orange and pink, and a few distant stars could be seen, shining feebly in the immensity of the sky. The man, of an imposing build, did not seem lost at all. He quietly whistled an old revolutionary air, his arms loaded with cardboard. Despite his nonchalant gait, his attention was riveted on the wild beasts roaming the forest. Simple domestic animals for him, but it was inconceivable that his magnificent costume would be, even just crumpled, the seamstress would kill him when he comes back to MarineFord. His belly growled slightly as usual. The man continued to walk, following the path on the right which zigzagged between the pines and neat the silent river. After half an hour of walking, the man finally left the forest to arrive in a tiny clearing with a small wooden house
The man brutally put the boxes on the floor and sneezed loudly. He grabbed a candy hidden in his pants pocket (this one had left a trail of fat in his pocket that was going to give the sailor's seamstress a tough time), and finally eat it. He stayed like that, planted in front of his boxes, turning his back to the forest. He waited a few meters in front of the door of the cottage. After a minute, the small house seemed to come back to life. Light escaped from the room adjacent to the entrance door. The main door opened with a crash to let pass an imposing silhouette that rushed on the man. The navy managed to avoid the silhouette on top of him, but not to dodge the still burning stove that lands right in the middle of his face. The man winced and quickly removed the hot utensil, giving way to a cherry red face.
_What are you doing here old man? Asked the woman who had just smashed her own door a few seconds earlier.
Far from being intimidated by the tone of the woman in front of him, the man smiles with all his teeth.
_I come to see the monsters. He answered simply, picking up his cartons with ease and entering the cottage without even waiting for an invitation. He closed the door with his foot, the woman locked outside. She fumbled, threw her pan on the floor and yelled "LUFFY, ACE, GARP IS HERE".
[…]
The 4 individuals had gathered around the dining table. Garp, proud and imposing, watched his grandsons in front of him, a steaming chicken leg in his hand. Dadan, seated to the right of  the Vice Admiral, gave him a hateful look since his arrival.
-I hope you came to bring them back with you. Dadan whispered so that the two children could not hear him.
-I have to leave for a long mission with the Navy, I just want to enjoy my family. Garp simply replied, eyes blank.
The two children in front of him were drawing quietly (which was strange for such children) the drawings of pirate ships and the navy (which, just as oddly, did not interest the two children who preferred the black warship with the pirate flag), which the Vice Admiral had brought.
Garp remained, frozen in his chair, looking at his two precious grandchildren, trying to engrave this image in his memory.
_ Dadan brings us the sea monster! Garp yelled, a huge smile on his face, raising his glass to the sky to the ceiling, knocking over half the liquid on the floor. The two children cried in heart, swinging the pencils all over the floor. Dadan restrains himself from exploding with anger.
[…]
It was his very first awakening. Like an indelible trauma, there will now be a before and after this event. It was now Garp's first wake up since he had let his grandson die in front of him. The vice-admiral's night had been agitated, and memories more than ten years old had decided to reappear in his mind. Garp was lying down on his bed, his eyes fixed, shocked, his sheets soaked in sweat, as he remembered for the first time in years that evening when he had been able to enjoy his two grandchildren, together and innocent, for the last time.

I HAVE A THOUGHT
Okay I’m like, exhausted. Haven’t really slept in like, four days. I’m at the point where I just KNOW I’m tired but I just don’t FEEL tired and I’ve been thinkin. Hear me out, it’s probably impossible. I blame my tired brain.
Luffy's Gear Second speeds up his blood, which in turn speeds up his body, he's tecchnically moving at speeds faster than much of the world around him with no mental jetlag, and only few physical repercussions (it strainss his heart, I don't care if he's made of rubber, that shit is dangerous!!). But like, hear me out, I might just be really tired and coming up with stupid shit, but like, if Luffy Awakens his Devil Fruit, if at all possible for him, what if it's just like activating Gear Two.
But instead of just gaining a speed boost, ot allows him to go so fast he travels through time??? Or gains an ability akin to the Instant Transmission technique from Dragon Ball Z???
Really, logic does NOT apply to Luffy, at all. He has gone into situations that have the odds SO stacked against him it’s not funny, but usually comes out on top! He’s a favorite of Lady Luck, has almost died like… 15 times, was fucking TORTURED as a child by a nasty, rotten pirate who didn’t care what he did because obviouSLY THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS, was RESCUED from CERTAIN DEATH by his CHILL FOSTER DAD™(Shanks), has managed to turn ENEMIES into ALLIES, not once but like DOZENS of times, rose to infamy in like… threeeeeeish months, survived his abusive freak of a grandfather (I love Garp, I really do, but that is NOT how you show love, and that is NOT how you treat a child. HE NEARLY KILLED LUFFY OVER A DOZEN TIMES USING THE EXCUSE OF “Training him to be an upstanding marine”! If anything, I think that Garp made Luffy begin to doubt becoming a marine, thought about it with a simple “I’ll have to listen to commands, and it’s a robbery of freedom”, but wasn’t about to abandon the option, because he still loved his grandpa and wanted to make him proud. Shanks and his stories of his grand adventures as a pirate merely allowed Luffy to harbor and grow that doubt into a hard-as-diamond belief.), stopped the civil war in Alabasta because WOW VIVI IS DISTRESSED LET’S NOT, broke into Impel Down, got terribly poisoned, was given the option to be cured but the cure was ALMOST just as deadly as the poison itself, went through TERRIBLE pain, and came out VICTORIOUS, albeit in technical terms ten years older (not physically, he lost ten years doing that. In my standards, he aged up ten years in bodily health. It won’t catch up with him til later in his life though, I bet), and survived getting the flesh on his chest, his RUBBER FLESH (ugh, that must have been horrible to see, and smell), melted off because he had been lucky enough to have caught the interest of supernova-at-the-time, Trafalgar Law.
With all of that in our minds, I wouldn’t doubt that Lady Luck would grant his Awakened Devil Fruit the ability to travel through time, or basically teleport.
Because come on.
He’d literally be stretching time and space.
’~’
I admit, he’d, at first, almost do something stupid. With time travel, he’d go back and try to prevent so much bad shit that’d happened to him without thinking of the consequences, as always, and he would end up DRASTICALLY changing things.
For example: he would go back to prevent, let’s say, the events of Marineford. Whitebeard would still be alive, Ace would still be alive, so much DEATH would have been avoided, and Teach would target Luffy and his crew in an attempt to become shichibukai. The vile man had seen Luffy’s wanted poster and decided to target him, and then full out admitted this to Ace at Banaro, and Ace definitely was NOT going to have that! I memorized their conversation as evidence because people like to sass me with a classic “YOU HAVE NO PROOF!”:
“First, I’ll go to Water Seven from here to kill Strawhat Luffy and hand him over to the government!”
“Luffy…!? What did you say…!? ”
“Oh? You know him?”
“I won’t let you lay a finger on him. He’s my little brother! ”
’~’
Luffy preventing Ace from being taken to Impel Down in the first place, which means preventing Ace from continuing to hunt Teach by, maybe, telling Ace about the Yami Yami no Mi and it’s abilities, and, if he manages it because coME ON, he can’t to save his life, lie about how he knows this, which would either drive Ace back towards Whitebeard in an attempt to prepare for such a battle, maybe even train more, or wouldn’t prevent Ace’s action against Teach, but would cause him to take the fight MUCH more seriously from the get go with the newfound knowledge. Going with the latter route, Ace taking the fight seriously from the start, if Ace seems too powerful to Teach, he’d do everything in his ability to flee the battle, as the man has always been a coward, and was never a carrier of The Will of D, despite being Marshall D. Teach. I don’t doubt that Teach would somehow escape Ace’s fury and flee Banaro, deciding against his thought of turning in Ace instead of Strawhat. He would hide out with his crew, or what may be left, for a lil less than a month. Lay low. No destruction, no killing, nothing from the Blackbeard Pirates. They would fall off the grid. Ace, having lost the man’s trail, would either continue roaming for any leads, or retreat back towards Whitebeard with his newfound knowledge of the man’s abilities, because he has SOMETHING on the man now, and his crew should know.
Teach would then head towards Sabaody and Fishman Island to have a run in with the Strawhats. They wouldn’t win that battle, and Luffy, plus his crewmates if they knew, would then be given to the government, and, knowing Luffy’s heritage, they’d rush to execute him almost as fast as they had with Ace. The papers would be full of excitement over it.
“SON OF REVOLUTIONARY DRAGON TO BE EXECUTED IN A MONTH!” the paper would scream, alerting everyone Luffy had managed to save or befriend, in one way or another. Shanks, Dorry, Brogy, Whitebeard (if Ace found out and lost his shit. He would try to leave, to rescue his baby brother, who doesn’t deserve to be executed. He would be held back, kicking, screaming, and crying out that Luffy was his first light in the dark, that he needs to save his little, adorable brother, that he’d always hate himself more than he has if he lets Luffy die. I feel that it would hurt Whitebeard and the others on the ship to see someone who was usually smiling and cracking jokes and being a nasty little brat on some days, and just an all around JOY to be around, be so… lost, and broken, and just a WRECK. They’d go and help save Luffy, I think. Whitebeard knows the importance of family, knows that Luffy means the WORLD to Ace, who was so, so PROUD when Luffy’s first bounty came out, and any brother of Ace was a son of his, and no one would be executing one of his sons when he could do anything about it.), two Yonkos and two giants.
The marines had been dreading in the original timeline that Shanks would join in the fighting when he arrived 15 minutes late to the war with a latte, imagine their horror as Whitebeard and Shanks join forces to save a simple, small boy made of rubber, who's grin and energy touched the hearts of practically millions on both the East Blue and the Grand Line.
But, the whole thing would be a plot by the marines to draw out Dragon, to catch him trying to rescue his son. But, the Revolutionaries, they are one big WILD CARD! I haven’t gotten enough about Dragon himself to even begin to THINK that be would mobilize forces to save Luffy. But, he did rescue Luffy at Loguetown, remember that. I bet he would be so so PROUD of Luffy, who was causing the World Government so much CHAOS, doing just what he had been doing, but instead of planning, like Dragon, he just went and did it. And if anything, the sudden headline would spark SOMETHING in the amnesiac that is Sabo, a deep-seated terror that he doesn’t know the origins of, or maybe it would knock him into a wave of soul crushing horror as memories of a small, bright little boy came crashing into him like a tsunami, he would drop the paper in horror, he never knew that Dragon was Luffy’s FUCKING FATHER, he would rush to Dragon about it, and if the man would do nothing, Sabo would become enraged. What a horrible father, what a SNAKE! He would beg, plead, do anything to get this man to save his FUCKING SON! And if Dragon was going to act, he would assign Sabo and a select group to infiltrate Impel Down to save Luffy, only to have barely missed him, yet they would be able to break out Luffy’s crew, if they had been captured when trying to help Luffy. Anyone can elaborate on what happens after this, I’m moving on.
If Ace had retreated to Whitebeard instead of going to Banaro to confront Teach, the man would have, more than likely, destroyed Banaro and would make his way to Water Seven. I estimate that he’d make it there after the events of Enies Lobby, unaware of the dramatic uppage in bounty that would follow. Aqua Lagoona had just passed, he’d just miss the Strawhats leaving the large city, but he would see the newly built Thousand Sunny flying as quick as a bee out towards the ocean, and he would follow. They’d go through some bastardized game of cat and mouse, I doubt Teach would even TRY confronting the Strawhats so close to Thriller Bark. So he’d wait until the fog lifted, like an idiot, because he probably doesn’t know the fog won’t lift. But, and correct me if I’m wrong, the fog DOES lift after Moria is defeated. He follows Luffy to Sabaody, where he confronts the Strawhat crew, and from here I believe the events mentioned in the last path would come to pass.
’~’
That was an example of what his meddling with time could lead to. Robin, of course, would stop him from doing it. She understands the risks of time travel, she’s read many books after all. Not only would she warn him to never use his power unless it was his ONLY CHOICE, she’d have him PROMISE!! And Luffy never breaks a promise, at least, not to my knowledge. It would be a great way to reset if he loses too much. And that means if he loses his crew, and he doesn’t feel he can go on without them.
Honestly, I find Luffy’s Gears facinating. Gear Two is advanced speed, Gear Three is damage spread across a large distance, and Gear Four is a mix of both. Truly interesting, the things Luffy has come up with for attacks and abilities when it comes to his own body. Which is why I’m instantly appealed by a Luffy moving so fast that he stretches time and space to the point of time travel, or teleportation.
And honestly, I kinda wanna see what other people have to think about my lil (understatement) rant here.
This has been your friendly neighborhood crow, signing out so I can attempt to sleep.

He replied "You will see as you live" which is a very bad advice for Ace who already lived for 10 years and mostly met people who told him he should die. Garp was too passive. And this passivity seems to be a huge character trait for Garp.
He dislikes the WG and that's why he don't want to accept a higher rank. But that's all. He does nothing concrete to go against them. He let shit happen even when he knows its bad. As long as he didn't do it himself, he thinks he isn't guilty?
He dislikes Luffy being a pirate but he is also proud of him. He would never actually chase him or try to put him in jail. (Remember the post enies lobby reunion)
During Marineford, he had this inner conflict going on. He was lost. So lost he became passive once again. I bet he was happy when Ace was freed and escaping. But he wouldnt have helped him escape if the choice was in his hands.
Why?
Why Garp never told Ace good stories about Roger? He knew the guy wasn't as bad as his colleagues wanted the world to believe.
Why Whitebeard never told Ace he was actually friend with Roger and not only a rival?
I think those two could have changed Ace's opinion of Roger. They were both his greatests rivals, one a pirate, the other a marine, and they both respected Roger a lot. They both know he isn't such a bad guy.
Why Garp didn't do anything when Ace asked him if he deserved to be born?
Ace could had found his answer earlier if only somebody talked to him.

Day 1: Character
Hi all! So, instead of posting in order here is number one, proceeding number 2...
Anyways, the prompt was characters so i aim to please! There are obv spoilers for p much everything so please dont spoil for yourself.
Monkey D. Luffy was a mystery inside an enigma. He was unusually idiotic but smart at the same time, in his own way.
He had little regard for the system of so called ‘justice’ or the world, for that matter.
He could lift his middle fingers up and say fuck you but he wouldn’t. No, he would become the king instead.
King of the Pirates and give the world the biggest fuck you he could.
Wherever he went he made friends; it was as natural as breathing, he was just…
There’s just something about Luffy.
Was it his charisma?
Was it the way he would kick anyone’s asses if they screwed with his nakama?
Or was it something written into their DNA, tying them with the free boy.
Makino watched over Luffy first for Garp but then she took a more parental role, allowing him into the bar as much as he wanted, the patrons simply adored him. But Makino saw the sadness in his eyes as he was clearly more lonely than the boy would let on.
Shanks was a pretty chilled guy so when the squirt had demanded he tell them stories of being a pirate he had indulged him. Who’d have thought that he would end up like this? He thinks, watching the blood, the carnage and more importantly, the fire-cracker that was Roger’s son.
Garp loved his grandson despite the fact that his good for nothing son had just given the babe to him without a backward glance. So he watches as he grows and finds himself more attached, he loves Luffy, he loves him more like a son than a grandchild.
Ace loved Luffy more than he loved himself despite the hatred he had for the rest of the world. It is why he couldn’t bear the thought of a world without his light so he moves and watches as his light flickers and floats away, the only regret heavy on his soul is that he will not see his baby brother become Pirate King.
Sabo loved him because he lit up the world and made Ace believe in himself. Years later and their pledge of brotherhood has not diminished. Sabo cries and sobs because ACEACEACEACE. But then he remembers someone else who believe he is alone, beingalonehurtsmorethandeath, and he pulls himself together.
Coby loves Luffy like a brother, it was only because of him that he had the courage to stand up to Alvida and say no. He becomes a marine for Luffy-san and when he sees him at Marineford… despite knowing that Ace is his brother, this is the path they have both chose. Later he tries to stop Akainu and meets the Yonkou himself, it is a befitting finish, he thinks.
Zoro joined him because of a promise and because he saw Luffy. And because of a promised dream, he will become the world’s greatest swordsman. He will make Luffy the King of the Pirates. He now follows the boy, no, man, because of all of the shit they’ve been through together.
Nami joined because of a mutual agreement but now she follows for she was encased within the charisma of the boy. She loves Luffy like a brother and cherishes his love whenever she sees him. He came for her even after everything.
Buggy wants to say he hates the bastard, well, he does. Partially. In Orange Town it was only fair that the bastard beat him, besides, it led to much greater things. Impel Down is hell and he unwittingly drags himself into a whole new mess following the rubber-bastard. And then Marine-ford… he hates it, the momentary grief he feels for the late Portgas D. Ace, son of Portgas D. Rouge and Gol D. Roger. So he helps the bastard out a bit whilst fighting World, it’s for a selfish reason but nonetheless he feels satisfaction as flames lick up the rubber man’s arm.
Gaiman watches the self-proclaimed mugiwara no Luffy hide the truth from him and he sobs, sobs that he wasted so much time here for those chests and now it was wasted. But he still loves the animals he is surrounded by. So, in two years time he will read the paper and jump in relief at the sight of the ‘Straw hats are back!’ emblazoned on the front page.
Usopp joined for adventure, he knows now that he never, ever wants to lead their band of merry misfits and he will cry and thank the man who saved him several times over.
Mihawk is impressed by the straw hat wearing boy, the one-armed, red-haired fool didn’t give away his treasure so freely. And then he recalls the rage in the boy’s face as he slashed the young swordsman. Then, at Marineford, fate smiles down on upon the boy and he escapes with his life.
Sanji joined for the ladies, well, that’s a lie and he knows it. He joined for his dream, but didn’t the rest of the fools in their tiny crew join for that as well? He remembers the hopelessness of being stuck on that island as his captain grieved and promises that he will never feel that way again.
Gin creates a new fleet, but, he knows that if Monkey D. Luffy, senchou of the mugiwara no ichimi, ever calls, he will join him.
Hachin watches in barely disguised confusion as he, and all of the other fishmen are defeated. Arlong had always taught him that humans were evil and weak. But then he will remember another before Arlong and cry for the man who is the hero of their country. He will try and defend the Sunny for a crew that is waiting for her.
Smoker ponders over the mystery of Monkey D. Luffy, son of the revolutionary Dragon, more than he probably should. He remembers the town of the beginning and end. But, more vividly the War of the Best replays in his mind and (he will never, ever admit this to anyone ever) felt his heart cry for the boy. But he is a Vice-Admiral and cannot ever endorse pirates so he will defeat Mugiwara no Luffy.
Dragon is proud of his son. He’s only met him once but Dragon watches from outside sources and the papers of what his son is doing to change the world. He might be doing it unintentionally but it is amusing to think about Sengoku’s reaction to his son. He will change the world.
Crocus knows that the crazy son of a bitch can do it, he has Roger’s smile, and the same air of confidence around him. Crocus cries and cries when he sees the news about Soul King, he shows an eager Laboon and the two cry in joy at the thought of one of their friends still being alive (was he really alive though?).
Vivi thinks that the Straw Hats are stupid, at first. She thinks they’re so dumb to be led into a trap like this, but she eats her own words as she watches a boy defeat Crocodile and save her Kingdom. She does not progress with him but watches through newspapers and den den mushi’s. (Her heart breaks at the battle of Marineford but she laughs when she finally figures out the meaning of the tattoo).
Tony Tony Chopper joins because, he isn’t a monster. He’s loves Luffy, his captain. He might be a naïve blue-nosed reindeer but he is Luffy’s doctor first and foremost. And if he has to be a monster to protect his nakama, then he will be a monster.
Crocodile is a shichibukai, he didn’t become one by slacking around. So he hates mugiwara no Luffy in the beginning, for such an awful good luck with Logia akuma no mi and watches as his plans fall to dust. He lost when he was a rookie, why should the overconfident bastard be any different? Although, he saves Portgas D. Ace, why? He doesn’t even know that answer… to piss of the Marines? Probable. Why did he save Monkey D. Luffy? He thinks it’s because the bastard will hurt more if he’s still alive after witnessing that.
Bentham never had many friends, ever. Not even when he was a part of Baroque Works, it was just how it was. No-one liked being friends with a queer. But after the fall of Baroque Works he protects the straw hat wearing boy because he is his friend. He feels like such a coward within Impel Down but… he knows he will have died to save Luffy’s brother.
Mr 3. Is unsure of the prowess of this boy, the powerhouse that took down his boss. He’s surprised when he runs into him again in Impel Down and even more surpised
Nico Robin is used to a life on the run. She joins the boy because he is stronger than a shichibukai, she will be able to use him to her advantage. But after so much, she can’t just let them die. And then… they come and she cries because her life has meaning. So, within their training she cries because her captain is alone.
Bellamy is a proud member of the Donquixote Pirates, he likes that, just mess shit up and you’re guaranteed a spot in Doflamingo’s crew. But the straw hat fool kicks his ass, just like that. And suddenly he is killing his friends, a cause of the flamingo and he cries, because he is given a second chance but is it really worth it? And then he wishes for the rubber fool to kill him, kill me. And he is proven wrong.
Blackbeard likes the kid, he’s got good fire within him, chasing his dream like that. But when he learns that the crazy kiddo is Ace’s lil bro he thinks well damn, one way to kill two birds with one stone. Later, after Marineford, he knows that he’ll have to kill the bastard, finish him off. It’ll be fun to watch him write in agony. He wanted to make him burn with his own brother’s akuma no mi but that idea is shot out as the bastard from the Revolutionaries beats him to the punch.
Montblanc Cricket is a crazy fool chasing a stupid dream. But that boy… he is just as dumb. But even so, when he hears the golden bell ring, he cries because thank you Mugiwara no Luffy.
Wiper thinks that the Straw Hat boy is a fool, and a weak one at that. But he is proven wrong as Enel falls and for the first time in a century, they are all at peace. He waves the straw hats away and knows that they will take the world by storm.
Aokiji is a fool, he knows this, but he does not care. He allows Nico Robin to live, he did, after all, let her escape all those years ago, it’s only fair if he lets the grandson of Garp live if he is willing to put his life on the line.
Franky joined because of his dream, they’re a crew of dreamers. And as his body becomes more metal than human he still loves their crew, he will become stronger so that his captain does not have to carry the burden of grief like that ever again.
Brook joined because he could. Well, that’s why he did in the first place, later on, it’s because the boy has bought his respect, as has the rest of them, so he sets sail and watches in horror as his crew is sent away because it is just like before. And when the tattoo comes through he starts a new career (temporarily of course).
Camie likes the pirates, generally, she doesn’t like pirates because pirates mean more abductions but one has to give someone the benefit of the doubt. And then she herself is kidnapped and then she’s on display and men and Tenryuubito and then Luffy. After the War of the Best she is sad for him but then when she sees him two years later she knows that he is okay.
Shakki has met many people over the years, both as a pirate and as a bar-tender on the Sabaody Archipelago. Monkey D. Luffy exceeds her expectations but at the same time fulfils him, she’s glad to see the straw hats come back together after two years of training.
Rayleigh is reminded of his own captain as he looks in the eyes of the straw hat bearing boy. A charisma of daring and challenge within him. It’s only proven as the brat single-handedly punches a Tenryuubito without any remorse. Afterwards, he’s glad when Kuma knocks him away because it means that they will not face utter annihilation. And then, he offers to train the boy because he has the potential but it is untapped. So he tries to help the boy heal and train.
Trafalgar D. Water Law isn’t sure what to think about Monkey D. Luffy when he sees the boy for the first time, he knows that the boy is a D, obviously. But he fights alongside Kidd and mugiwara-ya, decidedly impressed by the skill of the boy. Then the serious rage as he punches the Tenryuubito. And then he sees him broken and wonders if he will gain the courage to go on. When Law meets up with him later on, in Punk Hazard, he is amazed by the stupidness of the boy, but at the same time he is not surprised and he’s glad that he found a partner to take down Doflamingo down with.
Eustass Kidd dislikes the straw hat shit, because he knows that he’s going to be a pain in the ass to defeat when it comes to One Piece. And when the straw hats resurface two years later he laughs because, finally, someone worth defeating.
Jewelry Bonney thinks that the kid is certainly interesting, and then Marineford happens and she wonders whywhywhy, and that Blackbeard will pay. Her thoughts stray to the fool who didn’t surface until a couple of weeks after the war and rings the bell, signalling a new age. She likes it.
Kuma is first and foremost a revolutionary, he was secondly a shichibukai. This does not affect his day-to-day life and he fights against the injustices in the world alongside a man with a tribal tattoo. He watches as his leader looks to the East Blue every single time. He likes the Luffy boy, he knows that they’re not strong enough to face the New World yet so he flings them away and makes a promise for a boy in a straw hat.
Marguerite has never seen a man before in her life, but Luffy is the exception to this rule. And after he is brought back from the War she hasn’t seen a man so… broken.
Boa Hancock hates men, hates them as much, maybe more than Tenryuubito. But then Monkey D. Luffy comes crashing down into her life. He is a man, but… maybe. He can change her… And then… Then her Luffy is in such agony because his brother, his light, is dead. She knows how it would be to lose her sisters… For that to happen to her Luffy… But thankfully he seems to get over the pain of loss during the two years he trains.
Ivankov is an okama, he is also a revolutionary. But he simply adores straw hat boy, not just because of the strength of his spirit but also because he is Dragon-boy’s son. It is a depressing thought to know that the boy’s brother is dead but he knows that the boy will be fine, he has Rayleigh and Jinbe to stress over him.
Jinbe joined the man because he was asked, simple as that, Luffy is a man worthy of being followed by him and it is long past due that he flexed his wings as a pirate he is proud to be. So he reminds Luffy of what he has to live for and relishes in their meetings two years later, first at Fishman Island and then at Whole Cake Island.
Whitebeard is impressed by the cheeky brat, having the gall to challenge him and defend him from the Crocodile brat. So, he knows that there is a strong possibility that Monkey is the D Roger has been waiting for. And when a sacrifice is made of blood and fire he will enact his revenge and hope that his crew will protect the straw hat brat.
Marco decides that seeing as it was Ace’s final wish to protect his baby brother so he swoops down, deciding that Monkey D. Luffy will survive this, even if it means death. And then when his aid is requested long after the revenge war that they lost. He gives it, because Monkey D. Luffy asked, and he is the only link he can think of for Ace…
The Marines think that Monkey D. Luffy is suicidal for his actions at Marineford, any sane person would run away, tail between legs at the thought of fighting the Navy’s best. Although, he survives, so what does that say about their thoughts?
Fukaboshi thanks mugiwara no Luffy a lot, he is happy that the boy broke the law about the exchange of blood and defeated Hody of the New Fishman Pirates. He mended fishman island even if he didn’t think it. And the fact that the boy was going to contest for their territory with a yonkou… he owed a lot to the mugiwara no ichimi…
Shirahoshi has never left the tower she lives in for almost as long as she could remember. It is a condition of her living, but Luffy-san… he comes in and breaks her fragile world into little pieces and she is grateful for it, so very grateful. It is her dream to see Luffy become King of the Pirates now…
Doflamingo is a heavenly demon, he fell from the heavens to this ungodly realm. But he will rule this domain eventually. He hates the straw hat fool, ruining all of his plans and getting the stupid boy his revenge. His plan is in shambles but he laughs because he knows he will be released, he knows far too much.
Rebecca thinks that Lucy has a very good chance of winning, he is obviously very strong and agile. She is worried about winning the mera mera no mi, then she discovers just who Lucy is and resigns herself to her fate. And then her kingdom is free and she lives as free as anyone else, all because of the Straw Hat Pirates.
The Tontatta tribe is very secluded, has always been this way since the very beginning (after their release at least). But even so, they willingly commit to the Straw Hat Fleet, even if their commander did not agree, if the Straw Hats are ever in trouble they will come in all their forces.
Bartolomeo finally meets his idol and can’t help the tears swimming in his eyes, even so, he promises that he will win the mera mera no mi for Luffy-senpai! And then when he is officially a part of the Fleet he smiles for he may be needed by Luffy one day.
The Straw Hat Fleet is comprised of over 5000 members in total, none of them are officially bound to their leader for he did not want to oversee such an amount of people. Instead, they pledge themselves to him and promise to come if they are ever in trouble.
Admiral Fujitora, for the first time in many years, wishes that he had not slashed his own eyes, he wants to see Monkey D. Luffy’s face. See his smile, what kind of man must he be for an entire kingdom to protect him?
Carrot thinks that Luffy is funny, he smiles a lot and laughs a lot. He’s also super strong, strong enough to avoid the two elders on Zou! She was very excited to go on an adventure with the Straw Hat Pirates to save Sanji-san!
Reiju’s first thought is thank god Sanji ended up with such a crew. They’re so nice and she can’t help and hope that he had a semi-normal childhood after he left. She wishes it for Sanji, he was so nice and she couldn’t do much about Ichiji, Niji and Yonji otherwise they would hurt her.
