“The thing is that I have major trust issues so I tend to only trust those who don’t seem to see me as a means to an end or have plans to betray me, which my adoptive dad hasn’t done yet. So yeah, for right now I trust him but it can be easily broken in a heartbeat”.

“Only when he is trying to kill humanity. Everything else, he’s a really nice guy. Let’s me stay in the castle and asks me common questions that I am happy to answer”.

“I don’t believe in killing....humans. Demons, angels, pixies, and others are fair game but I don’t think dear ole dad wants me to do that too often around him. I am equipped with smiting monsters and stealing hearts from palace rulers and such since that’s mostly my job as a persona user”.

“Yes. If he was set on killing humanity again or at least trying to cause them harm. I will have to fight him, not just for myself but everyone’s souls. Would be devastated if I did though. I like him better than even my own biological father”.

Christmas celebrations shouldn’t have a place in there – a location forsaken by God, filled with heretics and curses that soils the earth and threatens the existence of mankind. A blight vilified by anything that is good and just, and yet everything is peaceful tonight. The lord of the castle wasn’t certain of the tastes of modern teenagers – the last time he walked among men, the concept of “teenagers” was barely a thing discussed among scholars! Regardless, a meal was prepared in one of the smaller dining rooms instead of the great hall. A cozy ambiance, with a fully decorated tree and a traditional Christmas dinner with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and vegetables….with a portion of curry on the side, a special Indian recipe that might please the boy. For the gifts, there were three packages: Dracula was aware that Akira enjoyed games, so he got him one of those portable Nintendo consoles – Switch? He wasn’t sure about the name, but it was compatible with the television bought during Black Friday. There was also one game, aware that a console without a game was nothing but a piece of decoration. And finally, the last package contains an ornate stiletto dagger, with golden hilt and a ruby on each side. ❝ Merry Christmas, my son.❞ …How odd. Was it supposed to be so…peaceful?

The angels in his shared soul are happy that even in places like the forsaken castle can celebrate the holiday seasons. Akira wasn’t so sure about asking his adopted father, the somewhat bane of all humans, Dracula to actually be in his company for the celebration of these two days but with being away from his true biological parents back the place where he grew up, there was a feeling deep down to share these times with family.

And behind all of that gruff exterior of the lord of darkness was a former man who had years ago, had a loving family as well. Memories did strange things to people and the world around them. Akira is actually happy to spend anytime with his adopted father since there isn’t a lot of time when the young persona user is out cleansing and obtaining more demons, angels, pixies, aliens and whatever else he could find out there.

However, he wasn’t aware that Dracula would had given him gifts and felt bad that he didn’t have anything to give back. He would probably give him something back the next day, it was only fair after all. Getting a gaming console, that was also portable so it could go anywhere he did, plus a game and something he could place in his room in the massive castle was a very nice and kind gesture. Not to mention all the food on the table for this special day. Of course, Akira really didn’t like seeing the plate of curry around since there was days that all he had eaten was just that but chose not to say anything rude. There wasn’t enough chances to eat the foreign food in front of him, including the mashed potatoes and gravy.

Akira’s truly grateful for this year, despite it’s up and downs and finally feels at peace for a moment or two.

Akira doesn’t know whether to laugh or cringe here. The question about the senpai part was normal because of the cultural differences. Someone must had told the vampire lord about that in passing. But the mere mention of the word ‘uwu’, actually that wasn’t even supposed to be said out loud anyways. More of an emotion or a feeling than anything else. That’s why it was mostly said through text and writing. Of course, Akira could say it because to piss everyone around him off and for the memes but to hear one of the most respected vampires of all time saying that made it so that the boy could understand why everyone hated that trend.

----“You’re not actually supposed to say that last one. I don’t know who’s teaching you these things. Must be the same person who taught Haru that dumb veggie song a few months back. Did a gremlin with headphones tell you that emoji? It’s supposed to mean when you are happy about something, not like you actually are that....I mean, it shouldn’t be taken lightly. More like a upperclassman thing or when you are working with someone that is more experience at a job than you are. More for seniority than anything else. Although, once you know someone enough, you usually don’t say it anymore. My girlfriend Sumi is an exception though. I don’t why she still likes calling me that”.

What was a compliment without a proper meme to go along with it. Hopefully, the centuries old vampire turned father figure in Akira’s life could at least get that reference or so he had hoped. All kidding aside, there’s a few things that the trickster did admire about the almost castle-bound myth from legend. Not only was he from a story Akira loved reading when he was a little kid besides the Arsene Lupin novels, but the guy was a celebrity among the vampires. Also, the coolest. Still, he had to make sure the compliments were more aligned with the other’s Castlevania roots and not actual fiction.

----“It’s cool that you found someone to love after the death of your first wife way back in the day. It takes a lot of courage to move past losing a loved one, something I wish a certain THERAPIST would catch onto. And that you were willing to destroy humanity because you loved her that much. While not a really good reason rationally, I can tell you loved her with all of your heart. Hopefully, I can find someone like Lisa and be happy in an old Victorian mansion and fight demons / shadows together for the rest of eternity.....I swear I’m not a vampire.....even though I dress like one when I’m in my MetaVerse outfit. Even though he ended up on another joke, Akira’s eyes were crying over how much his adopted father figure had loved his wife.

IT’S CHRISTMAS SOMEWHERE

While Akira could understand why Dracula would dislike celebrating the holiday because it around the time that the boy himself saved humanity on Christmas Eve back in 2016 and he knew the Lord of Darkness didn’t care too much about humanity even if his second wife was human as well, didn’t mean that there wasn’t a good enough reason to celebrate. Oh well. They were there giving out presents and having good food so perhaps that counted for something. At least they were not fighting for the balance of the world or something like that.

He unironically likes the knife better than the drone. The mechanics on those reminded him of the technical palaces and jails, with all of the security measures to ensure humans like him were caught and dealt with promptly. Not something Akira wants to remember. The less he thought about the distortion and other world, the better. Anyways, he scoops up the knife gently and then spins the weapon in his hand as Akira ponders on who could get some use out of the drone in question, not really realizing that he hadn’t thanked Dracula for the gifts in the first place until a clearing of a throat was sounded off during his little spin parade.

The blade is almost dropped carelessly but is up-righted, balancing on Akira’s finger as the boy looked up and realized that he hadn’t actually thanked the Lord of Darkness for the two gifts for this day.

“What I mean in non-verbal communication is that I like the gifts, but just was lost in thought in who would really love to have this drone. It’s not like I am going to spy on anyone with it. That is something that a certain Therapist does on monitors in the Lab of Sorrow. Now the knife, the weapon is great. I love it a lot. Not as great as Paradise Lost mind you, but still cool. Awesome design”. He then mumbles a small thank you before returning back to his discarded meal to poke at some peas still on the plate, thinking the conversation is over at the moment.

Perhaps Akira wasn’t being as sneaky as he though he was, roaming around the castle like some type of spy working for a secret group. Okay, he was on stand by for the Shadow Operatives but that didn’t count his very Solid Snake like crouching on the cobbled stone ground and hiding behind several statues that littered the cursed halls. But running into vampires that kept on looking at him like he was some damn clown, on his way to the circus probably alerted the one that actually owned the castle in question.

Of course, his beloved tailcoat was the part of his outfit that got caught initially, causing the rest of his to be dangled up in the air, upside down he might add. There was some type of sickening feeling, almost like he was going to throw up his breakfast, which was consistent of only gummy worms. They claimed to be sour but instead they were more sweet. But that wasn’t the point and Akira wished he focused on the present and not some company’s lies right now. Legs and arms flailing about, he tried to make sure that the momentum would make him get loose enough to fall to the ground, but instead found himself being held like some child by a many century old lord of the vampires. His adoptive father to be exact. On why he was being picked up like a sack of potatoes was quite odd since he was sure Dracula wasn’t the type to just pick up anybody, let alone a human.

Staring up at the man with a squint in his eyes, Akira huffed, not liking this one bit. “Hey what’s the big deal? I know I’m like still a kid, even more so in vampire’s eyes but that doesn’t mean I like being picked up. I’m like a cat, in some respects. And most of us counterstrike with a scratch or two. Knock it off why won’t you?”. He had his knives ready in hand, just in case this was going to end up in a fight. Not like he wanted it to be but you can’t just pick him up without permission and that even extended to adoptive family members.
