At some point before Meredith 'defects' from Militech to Arasaka, she and her rival, Meredith Stout end up having so much tension that it manifests in a one night stand. They only ever refer to each other by last name, and it only ever happens once. Stout always questioned her loyalty to the corp, and what her intentions were - and it infuriated her to see Stannard rise in ranks ahead of her despite having fewer years of service. Stout had to know what Stannard had that she didn't — and she sought it out firsthand.
