Ian: Your runes are interesting, Solas. I've never seen spellwork like yours before. Solas: In my wanderings I've uncovered older techniques. They are impossible to fully replicate, the ancient elves drew from a well deeper than what I can manage. Ian: It's- it isn't that. I mean, unless- was it customary for ancient elven runes to be so polite? Solas: Excuse me? Ian: Your runes, I read- that is... most runes are commands, or wishes or-or hopes. Yours don't- don't read that way. It's like you're asking for a small favour, as simple as- as simple as asking someone to pass you something at the dinnertable. Solas: I have never had my magic framed in such mundane terms. Ian: It isn't... I mean, I don't mean it disparagingly. I think- it might even be refreshing, to see magic approached so... practically. Solas: Magic exists, whether I wish it or not. I might command it, I might even be more powerful for it, but an unsubtle rune manifests an unsubtle spell. Raw power does not amount to much if you can anticipate it, reroute it, outsmart it. Ian: In other words it's- it's better to say 'please and thank you'? Solas: I have often found that to be the case, yes. Ian: In that case... thank you for indulging my curiosity. Solas: Ban'serannas (You're welcome). The pleasure was mine.
