“ everyone has secrets, don’t they? i’m sure you’ll tell me yours when you’re ready. ”

The shift in their conversation made them feel uncomfortable. To go from discussing something so minor and silly to a topic that they did not want to engage in. For a split second, they were tempted to reveal the reason for why they asked such questions. Is it possible to acquire important items from the human world in the Devildom? Could they possibly go to the human world to grab essential items? Would Diavolo and Lucifer permit it? Yeah, anyone would have inquiries after hearing all of that. Maybe they should have asked someone else instead of the one demon that they were falling for crushing on. If he knew... Would he change his mind about them? Whatever the hell they were?
“ You sound so confident. ” Kaoru stopped pacing around and fiddling with the small toy in their hands in order to look at the other. The item was tossed in the air for a few seconds before they moved towards Satan, with a determined look in their eyes. They wanted to change the subject, to move onto something else, to wrap up what came up. So, after letting the toy fall from their hand onto the already messy floor, they carefully sat themself down on his lap. Arms moved to wrap themselves around his neck and even though they were completely flustered, they still met his gaze. “ I don’t have any secrets. Nothing important, anyways. Just a lot of secrets that I learned from snooping around in the human world. I only asked those things because I wanna retrieve some things from my home. That’s all. ” Amber eyes locked onto green ones before they slowly moved down to stare at his lips. “ Y’know, you’ve been in my room for a few minutes now and we haven’t kissed once. We should really change that. What do you think? ” It’s not like they’d wait for a response. Their change in behavior was necessary. Satan had to forget the previous conversation. And so, they moved one of the demon’s hands to their bare leg ( many thanks to skirts ) and leaned in to kiss the other.
Kaoru liked Satan, a lot, but he couldn’t find out about their struggles. It’s not that they were embarrassed or ashamed but worried that he would view them differently. The fact that their happy-go-lucky behavior was all an act. He seemed to like that they were so positive, so full of energy, such a bubbly person. What if he hated what they really were? Would he pity them if he knew that in the human world... They relied on therapy and medication to help with issues like depression and anxiety? What would he think? Kaoru was lying to him. If he even got a glimpse of the real side... Would he end things between them? Kaoru had to keep up the performance. They couldn’t be a burden. They couldn’t lose Satan.

Beware the Physical Exam! pt. 1
Cherry blossoms blanketed the grass, a spring breeze billowing the strands of your hair away from your face. You took a deep breath, enjoying the way the sweetened air weaved its way into your lungs, refreshing and light. Leaning back into the chair you resided, you closed your eyes and let the sunlight ice over your face.
You had suggested a flower-viewing reception from a lone windowsill in the music room. The host club watched as you leaned against the glass, entranced by the cherry trees scattered across their campus. The calmness that surrounded you made it hard to say no, especially when you looked so incredibly happy when they said yes.
Blinking your eyes open, your vision refocused onto the party surrounding you. Maroon tables dotted the park, each with their own arrangement of flowers and pastries. Around them, guests gathered, laughing and swooning over your friends, as flowy as the petals above you. A sentimental feeling blossomed into your heart, and you were grateful for the moments of happiness you got to create for others.
“(Y/n).”
You tilted your head upwards to meet Kyoya’s gaze as he held out a small stack of photo books in front of you.
“It’s time.” The megane’s head turned to look at the table of your favorite Hitachiians, where another brotherly ruse was under way.
“Kaoru!” Hikaru yelled as hot tea conveniently seared his brother’s finger. With his eyebrows stitched together, the redhead brought his twin’s finger to his lips, hoping that his kiss will heal Kaoru’s wounds.
“Honestly Kaoru,” He scolded as his lips moved around the burned appendage, “you have to be careful.” His gaze moved to meet orbs identical to his own, an over exaggerated longing flashing across his brown irises.
“From now on, keep your eyes on me, okay?” A whispering, pleading tone rang out from the twin’s lips, and Kaoru pushed a light blush to his pale cheeks.
Kaoru released a breathy sigh. “Yes, Hikaru.”
There was a pause as the boys stared into each other before the two girls in front of them burst into flustered squeals.
You rolled your eyes as you walked with Kyoya towards the performance. “What a waste of talent, really.” Sarcasm leaks from your voice with every word, earning a hint of a chuckle from your friend beside you.
As you near the twins, the girls are now blushing, one covering her eyes.
“Oh I can’t take it!” She whines, turning fully away from the brotherly-love, her face red as a rose. “It’s too overwhelming!”
Her friend takes a stance of seriousness. Urgently, she grabs her friend's shoulders and spins her back around.
“You have to watch this!” She encourages, trying to pry the other’s hands from her face. “You may not get another chance, who knows when this will happen again!”
Taking your cue, you and Kyoya appear suddenly behind the two flushed guests, fanning out a series of photobooks in each hand. You two are a pair, matching in uniform and expression. The only difference was that you had a bag crossing your torso, carrying the multiple copies you were planning to sell for the day. A host smile appears on both your faces, a practiced move for a practiced moment. The girls turn around in awe, scanning the pictures on the covers.
“You are absolutely right, Mademoiselle.” Kyoya begins as he lifts a cherry tree branch from above him, regarding the petals dreamily. “All beauty is fleeting. Just look at these cherry blossoms.” He twirls the small branch around in his fingers as a flower or two breaks off.
“You’ll never be able to see them this vibrantly again.” His introduction is punctuated as more petals fall to the grass below. You perk up, moving the books closer to the girls so that they may have a better look.
“That’s why we’ve compiled these picture books that contain photos that capture the beauty of the host club in each passing day. If you ladies are interested in collecting all four of them, we will discount the full set for you.” You set 5 covers on the table out in front of them, your’s and Kyoya’s book being left out of the publishing.
The girls hurriedly flip through the books, tiny squeals escaping as they find each picture.
“I’ll take them!”
“Me too, please!”
A gentle smile plays on your lips as Kyoya writes down their orders. The picture books are picked up, and the two of you leave to another table to perform the same pitch once again.
The ginger brothers look on as you leave, deadpanning at Kyoya’s quickness to make money at the most insignificant opportunity.
“They are an annoyingly good team.” Kaoru says as he places his hands on his hips, while his brother mirrors the pose.
“Yeah. And now we know how the club makes extra money.” Hikaru thinks for a moment.
“But I have to wonder…”
“...When did they take pictures of us?”
The twins watch again as the pair of you make your way to another table, shrugging and returning to their work.
A while later, you reached into your bag for a refill of printed photos, only to come up empty. Discarding the pouch from your shoulders, you dramatically let it fall with a heavy thud onto one of the chairs of an empty table.
“I think we just sold out, Kyo.”
The ravenet broke his attention from his black book to watch the fabric of the bag as it deflated, looking significantly more hollow than before. A content smirk made its way to his face as he hummed before making a new note in his journal.
“That’s good news. It seems that we will have to order more copies than we previously expected.”
“Looks like we make quite the team.” You proudly simper at him, walking to look over his shoulder at what he is writing.
Kyoya makes a noise of agreement as he opens the grip of his journal slightly, causing the spine of the book to widen, giving you more visual access to his notes. He couldn’t stop himself from allowing you to be as close to him as you wanted too.
You always theorized that a person’s handwriting is akin to a physical rendition of how their voice sounds. The font of each note is unique to that individual, created by the visualization of their own thoughts and the way they hold their pen.
So, of course, one of the first things you noticed when you first met the Ootori boy was his handwriting. Thin, neat lines created perfect Japanese characters across the page. It was strategic and sharp in most places, an example of perfect penmanship.
The margins, however, told a different story. While the main space of the page was precise, the margins were filled with calculations, afterthoughts, and even doodles of spirals and geometric shapes. Your eyes followed his pen as it scribbled across the crisp paper in one of the corners, the formerly thin characters becoming thick and rushed, contrasting to the elegance in the center.
When you looked at his countless crammed pages, you felt like you understood his mind a little more. Whatever he labeled creative and scrupulous was dismissed in order to make space for his bigger issues. His thoughts were defined and organized, those of importance were sure to catch his gaze first, and those added were scribbled into the borders of the page, saved for later.
You smirked when you caught a small smiley face that you had penciled in during a late study session the other night. You were pleasantly surprised to see it hadn’t been erased.
Another small breeze passed over you as you backed away from him, your legs leading you to take a seat in the shade of a tree near the middle of the meadow. Crossing your ankles, your back dragged lightly down the strong bark of the trunk until you reclined fully on the plush grass beneath you.
Kyoya followed you, choosing to lean against the tree rather than sit, complaining that if you wanted to pay to remove the grass stains that would inevitably streak your apron, that was your choice.
“You don’t seem to have many guests today, (Y/n).” He observes, still writing on his precious pages.
You shrug, watching the crowd of people before as they enjoy handheld tarts and tea. “I told them I would be working with you today rather than hosting. Some of them still came to enjoy the event and say hi, but I guess the others didn’t have enough motivation.” You smile and wave as you catch the eye of one of the girls who sees you regularly, her dyed hair swaying as she turns her attention back to her conversation.
“So you cleared your entire schedule to spend time with me? What a waste of an afternoon.” Kyoya teases, and you wish he would look up from his notes to see the daggers shooting from your playful glare.
Kyoya, on the other hand, had taken a like to this new urge to flirt with you, in his own style. It was never something he thought he would do so openly, but since all of this was quite new to him, he didn’t mind.
Before you could respond, a sharp whine resonated throughout the calm atmosphere.
Tamaki crouches next to you, resting his forehead against the base of the tree.
“Say, Mommy dear?” The blonde quietly pouts, his voice just above a whimper.
It takes everything in you not to giggle as you see Kyoya’s head fall slightly in defeat. But he lifts his pen off his paper and smiles softly, not bothering to look back at Tamaki.
“What is it now, Daddy?”
Your lips fold between your teeth, cheekbones defining as you contain the laugh that bubbles in your chest.
Tamaki’s eyebrows stitch together, a downcast look on his face. “I have a new theory. I mean, it’s just my hypothesis, but it seems that by being in the same class, Hikaru and Kaoru are able to spend more time with Haruhi that I get to here at the club! This gives them a chance to get close to her, and if that happens-!”
You stand, shaking your head in sympathy as you interrupt your friend. “Tamaki…”
“You just now realized that?” Kyoya asks, leaving Tamaki completely shocked and speechless, deflating completely.
The prince watches you incredulously as a whiteboard appears out of absolute nowhere. Filing away his notebook, Kyoya’s posture straightens. He whips out a long pointer from his jacket pocket as you arrange two pie charts on the board.
“According to my research,” Ootori begins, one hand casually in his pocket as he points to left pie chart, “in a single day, the twins spend roughly nine hours of class time with Haruhi.”
You join in, fingers wrapped around a second pointer, looking smart as you refer to the second, smaller chart. “Meanwhile, your contact with her is limited to a couple of hours of club activities.”
Kyoya’s hands move to adjust the frame of his glasses. “In other words, your involvement to Haruhi’s life each day amounts to no more than a mere three percent.”
You collapse the pointer in your fist and look at Tamaki with sympathy. “We’re so very sorry.”
But Tamaki springs up, hands over his ears, eyes shut, similar to a toddler.
“I don’t want to hear it! I don’t wanna hear it!” He shakes his head back and forth as tears spring from his eyes.” He rushes over to Haruhi, you and Kyoya following in his rushed footsteps.
“Listen Haruhi, I want you to stop hanging out with those shady twins from now on!”
You take on a confused look as the twins shout in protest.
“Shady?!”
“Yeah! Look at yourself, boss!”
Tamaki complains, backing away from Haruhi. You open your arms, used to being the one to calm him down from his tantrums. He hugs you but turns to Haruhi in your embrace, crying out to her.
“All Daddy wants is for you to go back to being the girl you used to be! For you to surround yourself with girlfriends and start leading a wholesome life!”
You roll your eyes in the hug, Tamaki forgetting that you are a girl, and you are also a friend of Haruhi’s.
“Who’re you calling Daddy?” A tired Haruhi asks with an irk.
Tamaki points at her, one hand still wrapped around your shoulders. “So do it! Change back now! Change back right now!”
“Tamaki!” You say to him, pulling out from his arms and folding your own. “You need to calm down.” The blonde pales at your tone.
“There isn’t much we can do anyway.” You remind him, resting your growing headache into delicate fingers. “Physical exams are the day after tomorrow.”
The twins nod, speaking in unison. “She’s going to be found out soon enough.”
Haruhi tilts her head. “Physical…exams?”
Kyoya’s eyebrows raise ever so slightly. “Oh, that’s right. I forgot all about that.”
Six of the seven hosts turn to look at Haruhi, each having your own reaction to the possibility of her no longer being able to be in the host club. It was hard enough to get permission from the school to allow you to be an official member, and although you all agreed it was sexist, you didn’t want to go through that trouble again.
Haruhi thinks. “Then that means,” she raises a finger, coming to the conclusion that most of you had already figured out, “there’s no doubt. They’re gonna know I’m really a girl.”
:::
Moonlight lit your path as you stepped out of the obsidian Lexus that your family owned, walking up the steps to your home. It was large, not uncommon for someone as rich as your mother, and it was pristine, not uncommon for someone as particular as your father. Opening the grand double doors, you were met with elegant emptiness, the ivory tiles of the foyer reflecting the fact that you were the only one home.
You sighed at the cold gusts surrounding you, already missing the warm air of your campus. It was nice to be away from everything for a while.
Your footsteps echoed as you beelined for the kitchen. You hadn’t gotten a chance to snack at the event due to all of the marketing, so your neglected stomach had protested the entire ride home from the academy.
Your eyes lingered on the framed pictures of your parents that were decorated around the rooms and hallways of your house. Some stilled memories depicted you as well, but for the majority, you were absent as your parents smiled back at you.
Surely they were making more, wherever they were.
You swung open the door to your fridge, fishing out some (f/s) and a bottle of (f/d). Kicking the fridge closed, you carried your snack and your school bag to your room. The bedroom was spacious and personalized, posters of (f/f) littered around the perimeter. It was the one room in the house your father didn’t fret over, upon your request. It was your space, and you argued that you were able to do whatever you wanted with it.
Different creations and robotics littered one side of the large desk in your room. The business of technology was the environment you were going to inherit one day, but the inventive side of it had become a passion of yours. Raspberry Pis and exposed wiring detailed some of your best designs so far, but the club had always come first, so they were left unfinished.
Your bag collapsed to the spot next to your door as you set your food on the nightstand. Sitting on your bed in the center of the room, you heaved a sigh of relief.
While you were making the necessary steps to take better care of yourself, you noticed exhaustion settling into your joints as you let yourself sink further into your comforter. Today had been a big accomplishment, generating a larger income for the host club while also executing the event that you had been planning for the past couple days. That satisfied feeling seeped into your heart, and you reveled in it for a minute before resting your eyelids.
You hadn’t realized you had drifted off before you were startled awake by a door shutting somewhere in your house. Your heart skipped a beat before you recognized your parent’s voices drifting through the hallways.
Dragging your body off the comfort of the mattress, you leaned against your door frame as the married pair made their way to their own bedroom at the end of the corridor.
“...this gap in the inventory, Marney, is essential to the launch of our new technology.” Your mom barked (n/l) in her bluetooth, your father trailing behind her with luggage piling on his shoulders and forearms. “If Rosalina and her team need to work overnight to make up the space, then so be it. I don’t even know how it got to be this bad, no one ever tells me anything.”
She met your eyes and a tired smile made its way to her face. “Hey, baby.” The (h/c) woman whispered while rummaging through one of the bags, not wanting to interrupt her phone call.
She pulled out a small bag and tossed it your way as her attention diverted back to her colleague, and your dad kept struggling along, giving a passing smile as he followed behind.
One of the bags seemed to be wobbling from your Dad’s grasp, so you quickly set down the gift bag and rushed to grab it before it crashed onto the floor. He gave you an appreciative nod as you walked with him to their room, which was even more grand than the rest of the house.
“How was your trip?” You question, generally speaking to both of them as you pile the luggage that you were carrying onto the growing mountain in the corner.
“Good, sweetie, it was good.” Mom waved you off as she disappeared into the bathroom, clearly occupied with other things.
“What about you, Dad?”
Your father glimpsed at you with his (e/c) eyes before sighing.
“Fine.” His voice was thrown behind him as he began to unpack. “The hotel was not up to the standard we thought it would be.”
“Oh please, dear, it was a 5-star resort.”
“A 5-star resort with cheap towels and tardy room service.” He called to your mother, who already had the shower running. A phone rang on one of the counters, and your father’s attention was permanently elsewhere.
As if you were never there, you slipped back through the door and into the hallway. Not like you expected them to notice.
The small gift bag was waiting for you on the desk where you’d left it. Picking it from the array of computer parts, the paper crinkled as you reached inside. Your fingers grasped a novelty pin with the french flag, accompanied by a cheap outline of the Eiffel Tower and a heart. Underneath the touristy images, bold, red lettering spelled out ‘The City of Love’ in cursive font.
Moving to the opposite wall of your room, you added it to your collection. The little things like these had become sentimental to you, since it was really the only thing your parents brought back for you from their trips. It was a piece of them you could have at all times, with you wherever they went.
An array of pins looked back at you as you scanned the multitude of touristy postcards and mementos a like, wondering how something so meaningless to others had become so valuable to you.
Thankfully, a ringtone broke your thoughts before your mind could spiral any deeper.
You crossed your room to your bag on the floor and pulled out your phone, watching Kyoya’s picture flash in front of you as your phone vibrated in your palm. Confusion graced your features and a small hint of excitement bubbled up in your chest, but you ignored it.
“Hey, Kyo.”
On the other side of the city, Kyoya sat at his desk, papers strewn out on the glass surface. The hand that was raking through his hair stopped when he heard your voice through his phone. His heart thumped at the nickname, but he willed it away. There were more important matters at hand.
“(Y/n). I need your help.”
Your eyebrows raised, and you sat on your bed once more. It wasn’t every day the Shadow King reached out for assistance.
“What do you need?” You ask, only slightly concerned.
“I think we overextended our budget.” Something in you twisted at how exhausted his voice sounded.
“What?” You stepped up to sit at your desk, your laptop charging in front of you. Flipping it open, you pulled up the spreadsheet you and Kyoya share, scrolling through the charts and tables in order to reach the total amount spent.
Sure enough, the number you were looking at was in the red.
“How did this happen?” You question, searching for a miscalculation.
“It was my fault.” The boy sighed and leaned back in his chair, letting his hand snake behind his glasses to rub his eyes. “I have admittedly been slightly distracted these past couple of weeks and overestimated the amount of profit we would receive from the photobook sales.”
“Distracted? That doesn’t sound like you.”
“I haven’t really felt like myself, as of late.”
“Oh.” Unknowingly, you mirrored your best friend as you also relaxed into your chair, absorbing your attention into the man on the phone. “Is there something you need to-”
“No. There isn’t.” He interrupted you, his voice taking a tired, frustrated tone. “What I need is to fix this rift in the account in order to have any peace of mind for the next 5 days. I do not have the time for anything else right now.”
“Well, I can understand that. But that doesn’t mean-”
“It means that there is nothing more important than the club’s finances.”
You blinked, taken aback at how quickly things had turned south. You tried once again.
“Kyo, I was just saying that-”
“I don’t care about what you have to say about how I am supposed to feel.”
There was silence coming from your end, and Kyoya realized how aggressive he sounded. The black haired man cursed himself for getting so defensive. He swallowed, knowing that he wasn’t supposed to talk like that to someone he cares so much for.
“Kyoya.” A surprised tone drew out of your throat.
He swallowed, his pride leading a debate on whether to apologize or not.
“I’m sorry. I just…” He took a deep breath through his nose. “I value your advice, however, I would like to focus on the club’s finances.”
A hand went through his hair as he was met with silence. His mind raced with more decent ways to apologize before a small laugh lifted from the cellular device.
“Okay, Shadow King, I forgive you.” Chuckling through the nickname, you teased the ravenet.
“Remember, unfortunately, that while your organizational skills are god-like, you are not God. You can’t change everything in only one night.” The tension in the air dissipated as you laughed at your own joke, and Kyoya unclenched his jaw.
“Since when have I been named the Shadow King?” He irked an eyebrow, a lighter atmosphere falling around the both of you.
You shrugged in your chair, a small smile playing at your lips as you heard him relax. “I heard some of the servers call you that at the dance the other night. I thought it was fitting.”
Kyoya hummed as his mind flicked back to that blossom-filled night, the disgusting gestures and remarks those servers had made when they looked at you. He was pleased to know he had made an impression.
Your voice brought him back to the present. “And, if you want, I can bring in more guests tomorrow, help fill that gap in the budget. I haven’t been taking as many as I should lately.” You giggled sheepishly and put Kyoya on speaker so that you could send texts to all your regulars and some new recruits.
There was a rattle as the megane touched his glasses, followed by a slow exhale into his reply. “It won’t solve the issue entirely, but it is a step in the right direction. I appreciate the ambition.”
You purr as you send the last of the text messages, letting your head fall onto your desk as you rested your left cheek on the cool surface. Looking past your scrambled inventions, you noticed the beeping, blue numbers of your alarm clock. 23:44.
Your right cheek made contact with the table as you rotate your head, your nose nearly touching the phone in front of you.
“How do you feel now?” A softer tone left your lips, as if reading the time had made your body aware of how tired you felt.
Kyoya softened at the tiredness in your voice. “I’m doing better, thank you.”
A sleepy smile played on your face. “So the world isn’t ending?”
“Your sarcasm makes me like you much less.” There was a teasing lilt in his voice.
Laughing tiredly, you pick yourself up from your position. You take Kyoya off speaker and hold the phone close to your face once more.
“Kyo, it is way too late right now.” Your voice is closer to him now, clearer. He barely registers that he needs to respond.
“Hmm?” The Ootori son looks at his watch, realizing that while he was stressed over his work and got lost in your conversation, time left him completely.
“Oh, yes.” Exhaustion bloomed in his bones as he blinked the dryness from his eyes. “I need to get some rest.”
“Okay, well, goodnight then.”
“Goodnight, (Y/n).”
You held the phone to your ear a moment longer to hear the sound of the line going dead. Shutting your laptop, you placed your phone on its charger before going through your usual night routine. Clean, 1000 thread count sheets awaited you as you turned off your lights and climbed into your huge bed.
Glancing up behind you, the moonlight leaking through your window reflected off the pins lining your wall. A small pin of the Ootori Hospital logo sparkled as you drifted off to sleep.
:::
“He must be having a great daydream!” Honey’s voice rings through the club room as the hosts watch Tamaki practically drool all over himself, completely lost in his own thoughts.
“He’s kinda creeping me out.” Hikaru rolls his eyes as you stand next to him, nodding.
“I don’t wanna know what goes on up there.” You say as the group nod in sync, affirming that Tamaki’s mind is a labyrinth of the unknown.
You were preparing for your influx of guests for the day. You had signed on a lot of new recruits over the past couple class periods, which meant more people in the point system. Straightening out your uniform, you were excited to help the club in any way you could, even if it was just ‘a step in the right direction’.
Tamaki suddenly snaps his head towards you, making you sweatdrop.
“Envious? This is all part of my strategy.” He stands proudly and circles you, like a bird to its prey.
“While you were blinded by your jealousy, I foresee the outcome of the charade.” Tamaki parks himself in front of you, posture straight and pompous. More than usual.
“This anime is obviously a romantic comedy. Haruhi and I are the main characters. So that means that we are love interests.”
“Oh yeah, then what are we?” The twins ask, eyebrows raising.
“You guys…!” He interrupts himself to draw a line on the floor, separating himself from the rest of you. “Are the homosexual supporting cast!”
A deadpan look crosses your face as you make eye contact with Mori, who has the same straight-lipped expression.
“You’ve gotta be kidding.” The Hitachiian’s exhale as they look at the line, then each other, then the blonde in front of them with hearts in his eyes.
“Look, boss…” Hikaru starts, his face suddenly becoming serious.
“I don’t think you get it.” Kaoru finishes with the same look.
“If word gets out that Haru-chan is really a girl, then she won’t be able to be in the host club anymore!” Honey-senpai exclaims as he clutches Usa-chan to his chest.
“Whaaa?!” Tamaki’s eyes go wide as he widely gestures to you. “But (Y/n) is a girl and she is a host!” He whines, looking to you for help.
“Yes.” You say timidly. “But I was only an exception.”
Kyoya took this opportunity to share some history. “Host clubs, traditionally, only have male members, so in order for (Y/n) to be accepted as one, we had to get special permission from the Chairman.” Kyoya peered over his glasses at his princely friend.
You gave Tamaki a knowing look as he pales. “It took a lot of convincing, to say the least.”
Honey suddenly coos and grips your skirt, pulling your attention to him. “But, if Haru-chan started wearing girl’s clothes, then I bet she would be even cuter than she is now!”
You were confused before you saw Tamaki’s expression change out of the corner of your eye. He was put on the fence, and now was the time to push him over the edge.
Hikaru had a mischievous look on his face as he turned toward you. “She dressed like a girl in middle school right?”
You slowly caught on as you nodded. “Yeah, she must’ve been popular with all the boys.” Tamaki’s face fell from confused to jealous.
Kyoya opened his notebook. “According to our investigative reports,” he gestured between the two of you, “someone would declare their undying love for her at least once a month.”
A flustered blush made its way to the prince’s cheeks.
“Oh, I see.” Kaoru rounded Tamaki’s shoulder, “So the boss wouldn’t be able to get close to her.”
Tamaki’s torture was punctuated by Hikaru. “But we’d be able to because we are in class with her all day long.”
A quiet whimper squeaked out of the violet-eyed romantic as he made a determined fist.
“No way.”
The grand double-door creaked open as Haruhi poked her head inside, flushed from running through the halls to make it on time.
“Hey guys, sorry I’m late-”
“Don’t worry Haruhi!” You tried to stop him, but suddenly Tamaki was in her face and his hands were gripping her shoulders, tears gathering in his eyes. “No one will find out you’re a girl during tomorrow’s physical exams! So please promise you’ll stay our beloved secret princess!”
Haruhi’s eyes found yours as you shrugged, and motioned to just go along with it.
The brunette blinked. “Sure.”
There is a blur of blonde and ginger, then suddenly you are watching as Tamaki organizes a plan of attack for the physical exam tomorrow. You lean over to Kyoya. “Where’d he get the whiteboard?”
Kyoya shrugs, still writing in his book as you watched Tamaki scribble a dark Expo™ Marker on the board, random circles and lines representing formations that only make sense to him. Haruhi looks on before getting your attention.
“What are they doing?” She asks as Tamaki, the twins, and Honey all shout ideas left and right.
You sigh at their antics as you answer. “They are trying to find a way to save you from being outed during the exam tomorrow.”
“That seems a little excessive.” She says as she turns to you, but Kyoya just hums into his notebook.
“Maybe, but it is the only way to pay off your debt.” You elbow him in the side.
“It’s also because we want you to stay.” You say to her, but she seems lost in thought.
“Well,” The honor student puts a finger up to her chin, “my balance is 5,333,332 yen.” She begins to laugh, dragging the attention from the entire group. “I guess I’ll have to come up with another way to pay you back!”
The twins turn to you. “Do something! The subject doesn’t appear to have any motivation!”
Your eyes widen as you look between your friends. But before you could do anything, Tamaki is shoving his finger in Haruhi’s direction.
“Are you saying you hate being a host! That you hate this club!?”
Haruhi doesn’t hesitate. “To be honest, I would have to say yes.”
Tamaki blanches and hides in his corner.
The commoner turns back to all of you, a smile on her face. “I mean you guys aren’t bad but if the word gets out that I’m a girl, then there’s nothing I can do, ya know?”
The twins push you forward, putting you on the front lines.
“Quick, she doesn’t seem to care one way or the other.” Hikaru urges.
“We have to find a way to motivate her.” Kaoru orders.
Your mind reels as you look around the club room, trying to find any inspiration to keep your friend in your club. You were getting desperate when you saw a small nudge of Mori’s head. Following his line of sight, a light bulb goes off when you see the small sushi buffet set up in the club room.
“Fancy tuna.” You say as you whip your attention back to Haruhi just in time to see her eyes go wide.
A new motivation plucks Tamaki from his emo corner, a creepy stare glazing over his eyes.
“Oh, that’s right.” His lilting voice flowed as he crept closer to Haruhi. “You never got to try any during last episode’s party, did you~?”
The twins and Honey tease Haruhi with scenarios of the delicacy finally entering her grasp as she swallows, finally admitting defeat.
“Am I really gonna get to try it?”
A relieved smile crossed your face before you caught a glimpse of the whiteboard again, wondering just how your club was supposed to pull this off.

Hiya! Can I get some headcanons for the Sk8 the Infinity men (Kojiro Nanjo, Kaoru Sakurayashiki, Ainosuke Shindo and Tadashi Kikuchi) with trying to ask out a more introverted plus size/chubby reader. Can be either fem reader or gn reader.
(yes ofc !!! i’m so happy i got a sk8 request :D)
Warnings: Slight NSFW on Ainosuke’s but pretty much fluff all the way !!
~~~
Kojiro Nanjo
Every Friday at roughly 7:00pm you would come into his restaurant for dinner
You were always by yourself and you always ordered the same meal
He was completely enamoured with you, the way you spoke, the way you ate and the way you smiled at him whenever he took your order
As the weeks passed Kojiro would often sit with you while you ate
He would typically do the talking, you weren’t much of a talker and he didn’t mind
One night the restaurant was nearly empty and Kojiro thought it was a better time than any to ask you on a date
He’d never been nervous over this before
As he approached your table he could already feel his face heating up
His stomach was full of butterflies
He had never felt this way about anyone
He managed to cover up his nervousness with his typical charm and charisma
He asked if you’d like to go to a summer festival with him
You agreed, of course
You were surprised that someone like Kojiro had taken an interest in you
Once the summer festival rolled around Kojiro lost his mind when he saw you
You looked stunning in your yukata, it hugged your curves slightly and the colours brought out your eyes beautifully
Kojiro linked arms with you and refused to let go of you, he couldn’t let you go
The festival finished and Kojiro offered to walk you home
At your doorstep he held your hands in his and smiled softly
“Y/n, i have feelings for you and i want to be your partner. Do you feel the same?”
You smiled. “I do, i like you a lot, Kojiro.”
He gently pulled you into a kiss, ending your date and starting your relationship
Kaoru Sakurayashiki
Romance wasn’t one of Kaoru’s priorities
He was more focused on other things
That was the case and it stated that way. Until the two of you started hanging out again
You and Kaoru had been friends since high school and since then neither of you had much time to see each other
One day the two of you happened to run into each other at Kojiro’s restaurant
You were still in your work clothes a tight apron stretched over your curves (you were a baker) small patches of flour coated the front
You were talking to Kojiro, standing the exact same way you used to in high school, eyes pointed downwards as you toyed with your fingers
He missed you. He missed hearing your voice every day.
Kaoru approached you and Kojiro and gave you a small smile
“It’s so good to see you again y/n.”
You were blushing profusely
You all started talking and reminiscing, Kaoru and Kojiro were still insulting each other as per usual
The end of the night approached and Kojiro started to close up the shop, kicking you and Kaoru out
Kaoru offered to walk you home, hoping to finally tell you how he felt
He had always had a small crush on you since first year, as the years passed it only grew
You both walked in silence, comforted by each other’s presence
Suddenly Kaoru stepped in front of you, stopping you completely
He gently grabbed your shoulders and his face flushed
“Y/n. You mean a lot to me. I was hoping you and I could maybe go out sometime? Just you and I. I’ve wanted to since high school but never got the chance. I like you a lot, y/n.”
You didn’t say anything, you just leaned into his arms, hugging him silently
“I like you too, Kaoru.”
Ainosuke Shindo
You were only supposed to be his secretary, nothing more
He cared for you, sure, but Ainosuke wasn’t supposed to get distracted, after all, he was searching for his Eve
Each day he smiled at you, each day he fantasied about you, your beautiful body sat on his lap as he held you tight
Having you stradle him, your weight pressing into his hips as he touched and worshipped every inch of you
These thoughts drove him crazy. You weren’t supposed to be his Eve, you couldn’t even skate! How could he truly find excitement and thrill with you?
He had enough. He needed to see if you were his Eve
“Hello bunny.” You looked up from your computer to be greeted by Ainosuke. He leaned into your desk and held up a bouquet of your favourite flowers
“You and me should go dancing sometime, I have a perfect private spot for us. I think it’d be great to get to know you better.” He cooed
You reluctantly agreed, you weren’t a great dancer but if your boss wanted it, he would get it eventually
You decided to wear a simple red summer dress. You knew that Ainosuke would be dressing his best, seeing as he always does
Tadashi had picked you up and brought you to a small picnic area that overlooked Okinawa
Ainosuke was sitting at one of the tables wearing a blue casual suit
“Care to dance?” He reached out his hand
Tadashi played music from the car while the two of you swayed back and forth
“You know, I’ve been dreaming about you for a while, bunny.”
Your face started to heat up
“You’re so beautiful, so very beautiful. I want to be yours, do you accept?”
Ainosuke pulled you closer, your body pressed against his
“I do. Thank you Ainosuke.”
Even though you couldn’t see it, you knew that he was smiling
(side note !!! i know that tadashi is seen as Ainosukes secretary but i see him as more of a “personal assistant” if there was any confusion !!)
Tadashi Kikuchi
Tadashi has an unspoken love of flowers
He enjoys seeing them bloom over time, it brings him peace
One day he happened to stop by a small public greenhouse in the middle of a park
Only one other person was inside, you
You were knelt beside a large pot filled with peonies
You were stunning, even dirtied with soil Tadashi couldn’t take his eyes of you
“Excuse me? Are those yours?”
You perked up
Tadashi stood above you, pointing to the peonies
“Oh! Um- no actually they’re someone else’s. I just saw that they weren’t getting enough care so I started caring for them.”
It seemed as though Tadashi had met someone who cared about flowers as much as him
“Could I help?”
You nodded and he knelt down next to you, working on recovering unhealthy flowers
Months have passed and you and Tadashi have become close
Every day you two would meet up at the greenhouse and garden together
One day Tadashi was late. You were getting worried, maybe he had gotten sick of you?
Before you could think any further he stepped into the greenhouse
He was holding a small box
“Y/n! I’m so sorry i’m late, I was picking something up for you.” He handed you the box.
You opened it
A beautiful silver necklace with a small peony charm greeted you along with a note
It read “Y/n. I don’t have the courage to say this out loud but I would like to be more than just friends, would you like to cook with me sometime?”
You smiled. “I’d love to, Tadashi.”
I hope you liked this !!! requests are open so please feel free to send one !! <3
Okita's Route Part 2: Still on Kyoto Winds because I didn't realise that I'd ramble so much
Predictably, I'm enjoying Okita's route a lot more than Kazama's. Also, I'm skipping a lot less than when I played Kazama and Iba's routes, which makes a lot of sense because Okita is actually in the Shinsengumi and, therefore, gets a lot of screen time. So far, he acts like an asshole but this isn't backed up by his actions. Apart from the casual child cruelty X_X
Chapter, uh, 3? I think...
I feel like Hijikata sticking up for Sanan is just making things worse X_X . Saying that he's not useless because he's a swordsman is just plain wrong. It makes it seem like he's just saying it out of pity. I'm sure that Sanan has plenty to contribute, besides slicing people up.
"Sanan is quite the beloved member here, isn't he? It's nice to see such a tight-knit group." -_- Itou is such a master of shade. Gently implying that they only keep Sanan around because of their relationship. You evil bitch X_X
"Ugh, who brought those bastards into the Shinsengumi?" RIGHT?! Glad to see that Okita's not blindly following Kondou's lead here.
"He is easily deceived by silver tongues, those who appear virtuous... but are real scumbags." As the great Roisin Conaty once said: "Charming is just lube for evil." However, this is kind of backing up what those asshole kids were saying earlier about Kondou being an idiot X_X
SNOOP SNOOP 👀
AH! OKITA CAUGHT ME TALKING TO MYSELF! AGAIN X_X
"Trying to run away behind our backs." -_- You know that's not true.
"Heh, I'm just messing with you." No shit. "I mean, unless you were escaping, then I'll slit your throat." -_- You just couldn't resist the opportunity to throw out another casual death threat, could you?
Is he worried about my safety? I KNOW YOU'RE TRYING TO BE FLIPPANT BUT I SEE THROUGH YOU.
"Good girl." -_-
"It sounded like something out of a fairy tale." Oooooooooh hooooooneeeey... Have you not been paying attention?!
Welp, Okita told me to scream so... AAAIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Oh, apparently, not that... OKITAAAAA! Bet he loved that.
"Aaaaaaaaaaagh!" Everyone, please stop screaming.
Ngl, Sanan looks good with white hair.
Apparently, Okita likes hearing me screaming his name... Good to know...
"Don't worry your little head. It would be my pleasure to help you die." O_O ... Isn't that a little hasty!?!
"You're not serious, are you?" HONEY X_X
"It's really annoying, you know. You think you're part of the Shinsengumi?" </3 Ouch X_X You're the ones who took me prisoner, y'know? However, Chizuru does often act like she's the only one who cares about the Shinsengumi members, which must be annoying af.
"We only keep you alive because you're useful. You are NOT one of us." Uh... Thanks for calling me useful? But is that seriously your attitude? Anyone who's not useful to you should just die? -_-
"His words shattered my already breaking heart." Aw! </3 Poor Chizuru bae!
"Seriously... You can really be a pain, you know that?" RIGHT. BACK. AT. YOU.
"It'd be easier to just kill you," Broken record much?
"Had their last thoughts as men been hope they might survive the madness? It sounded horrible..." YUUUP.
"Sano! Make something up!" Definite DnD vibes again! When you make the low charisma character roll deception X_X
"You're a miserable actor. Keep your mouth shut." I'm sure that this exchange won't seem suspect at all X_X
"Oh, Sanan... Who cares what you are? You're alive!" Bless Kondou's pure and simple heart :')
"Yukimura, you go back to your room. I know you didn't sleep much." Why am I the only person in this game who requires sleep? -_- Just a trend I've noticed...
"*Cough* *Cough*" O_O OKITA, ARE YOU OKAY!??? O_O
"You owe us a lil' booze! Or maybe even, heh, a little... company?" WHERE'S OKITA'S MURDEROUS INSTINCT WHEN YOU NEED IT!?!?
"Suddenly I felt a hand on my arm." BWOOOOOOAAAARP!!! PHYSICAL CONTACT ALARM!!!
"Calm down, kid." ... NO. I HAVEN'T BEEN TOUCHED IN MONTHS.
"Hey hey hey! Looks like she's got the hots for you, Souji!" Oh Heisuke X_X
"No matter what, I won't buy Ishida Medical Powder." XD Got to admire Okita for staying true to his convictions :')
"I'm using the hell out of you" O_o Calm down, Hijikata X_X
Guess I'm going to have to put stalking Okita on hold for now...
Harada and Shiranui should just kiss already.
""Huh? Chizuru?" Okita looked up from cleaning his sword as I entered the hall." OH, HE WAS POLISHING HIS SWORD, EH? ;P YES, I AM TWELVE. Tbf, his face really does look like he's been caught in the act...
"Oh shut up, will you? It's all your fault. The medicine you gave me totally doesn't w..." >:( I'm hoping that the reason that sentence trails off is because I give him a verbal smack down!!
"*Cough* *Cough*" O_O WELL, I GUESS NOW I CAN'T CALL HIM A CUNT!
BLOOD O_O
"It's nothing." ... BOI!!
This game is totally a forcing-stubborn-men-to-rest simulator X_X
"I'd been given instructions to stay away" from the physical examinations but ho's gotta ho', amirite?!
"Oh my... So you WANT to see those savages? What peculiar taste..." Itou, don't call me out like this. Although, I still feel like we should respect their privacy X_X
"Oh! Oh..." ALRIGHT, YOU THIRSTY BITCH, CALM DOWN.
*Camera zooms in on Nagakura's tiddies* -_-
"Your body's fine, Shin." - Heisuke.
"Don't you wanna order a slice of this beef cake? I got two meaty servings on a plate, right here." Aaaaaagh! X_X My eeeeyyyeees.... Can't... un-read... sentence... please... fetch.... brain... bleach...
"A medical exam is for finding problems, not showing off. Now move." PREACH, SAITO!!!
"I feel like it's rude to intrude..." AND YET HERE WE ARE X_X
"It grants immortality" ??? Except for the part where you turn to ash???
"You're forcing your body in ways the eyes can't see." LISTEN TO THE DOCTOR, GUYS!!!
Everyone's just... RIPPING Takeda to shreds XD
"I'm scared shitless, believe me." :'( Poor Okita
No smart comments here... this is just really sad :'(
He's seen me? It's been nice knowing y'all...
Finally, Chizuru calls out Okita for threatening to kill her so much.
"Desist, you hooligans!" Sen is such a Queen! I want a Sen route!
Chizuru and Sen standing up to these arseholes is giving me LIFE! :') PREACH, GIRLS, PREACH!!!
"What were you going to do if they hurt you gravely?" Regenerate, biatch! >:)
"C'mon, was she that pretty?" UM, YES. But I think that she gives off too much of a domme vibe to be Okita's type :P
Chizuru is getting VERY distracted by Okita's hair. You know those scenes in movies where the woman takes down her hair and it's all slow motion and super sexy? This series has a lot of that. Plus when they get their Western makeovers :')
"That's funny... You don't LOOK like an especially nosy, hand-wringing version of my mother." XD I mean, -_- That totally wasn't hilarious.
"I grabbed his towel and began to scrub his head." ... We totally are his mother X_X
"I feel like I remember a time when you were nice and quiet..." NOT ANYMORE, BITCH! AND NOW, I'M ARMED WITH A TOWEL >:)
"You're really good with your hands." O_o ... What?
"You tied your hair up so quickly..." Why don't you show me what else you can do with them? ;)
Now he wants to know what I think of his hair? :/
OMG, HE'S TRYING TO COPY KONDOU'S HAIR XD I HAVE NO WORDS (for once)
Oh, you're surprised that I kept my promise? I'll have you know that I am an honourable woman, good sir! >:/
But Chizuru's claiming to only have done it out of fear of being sliced and diced? :/Uh, sure?
Chapter 4:
"They're small potatoes." This game has some excellent phrases in it X_X
Itou wanting to change the Shinsengumi uniform because it's not "fashionable" enough is the kind of genius that I'd expect from this game's most relatable character :') Although, I personally think that the blue uniforms are pretty <3
Awe, Chizuru thinks that Okita's joking about killing Itou :')
Kaoru just VERY BLATANTLY giving away that he was involved in the notice board incident X_X
:O I'm slightly jealous to discover that Okita's casual death threats aren't just reserved for me!
I get the sense that Okita knows that Kaoru's a boy but I'm sure that it wouldn't stop him if Kaoru was really a girl. Hooray for gender equality!
"I felt embarrassed for even doubting her for a second," O_e SERIOUSLY??!??
We're just going to let him go now!?!
Now Okita's having a coughing fit D: It was so stupid to run off and make him come after us :(
"What if she had accomplices nearby" GOOD. POINT. Chizuru would be so easy to lure into a trap X_X
"Without me around, you're just a useless kid." But I have a great personality! So, together, we almost make one complete, functioning adult :)
"Stop being so timid." I wish that I had that power :'(
"You can rely on us when you need to." Aweee! ^_^
"even compared to the weakest Shinsengumi foot soldier, I was pathetic." HEY. STOP THAT. WHAT DID I SAY? GREAT. PERSONALITY.
"Did you need something?" "Blood." O_O AH. Well, at least he doesn't beat about the bush! O_O
"What the hell? That's a little cold of you, having that pass for a good-bye, isn't it?" YEAH! :'( MIKI IS RIGHT! </3 :(
"Saburo. Watch your mouth." I'm sure that Miki is sad when Itou dies but 90% of their interactions are Itou telling Miki to shut up. X_X
"Is... Is that okay?" NO. IT IS NOT OKAY. SAITO AND HEISUKE ARE LEAVING, ALONG WITH LITTLE PIECES OF MY HEART. D'X
"would that mean I could never see them again?" *sobs*
"We're going to keep relations amicable between our two organisations." AHAHAHAHAHA HA.
"Okita...?" "... Hm? Damn." Uh, nice to see you, too?
"Next time we run into 'em, we'll probably have to kill each other." O_O Don't be so flippant, you ass :'(
"Swords don't think" damn, I didn't realise that you were sword-kin. Everyone thinks and has feelings. I'm sure that no power could convince Okita to kill Kondou.
"Takeda also left" and not one single fuck was given. :')
Just going to ignore Okita making fun of my "bed head" -_-
"I've come to take you" orly? ;)
"Look, lady, you're not part of the Shinsengumi, so I'd appreciate it if you could keep your nose out of our business." So, now that it's convenient for you, I'm part of the Shinsengumi? -_- I still haven't forgotten what you said before, asshole >:( Remember? HEART = BROKEN.
Sen knows that I'm a SLUT ^_^
"I can't tell if you have guts, or if you've got rocks for brains..." It must be the latter if I'm staying because of you XP
*Terrible decision immediately has lethal consequences*
LEMME GO! >:(
See Kazama post for my COLOURFUL feelings on this cunt >:(
Kondou can be so badass when he wants to be :')
Why... Hello there ;)
"Gotta admit, I didn't figure you for this type of girl." Then you haven't been paying attention ;P
Oh yeah: BWWWWWAAAAAAAARRRRP!!! PHYSICAL CONTACT ALARM!!! And then some X_X
"Didn't think I'd be getting pushed down into bed tonight, least of all by you." Oh yeah? Who else did you have in mind? Kondou? -_-
"Oh no! No no no!" Chizuru, we know you're thirsty and it's okay! Embrace the thot within! :')
"Tell me... How is it? On top of me. Does it feel good?" PLEASE SAY YES, PLEASE SAY YES, PLEASE SAY YES!
"I hadn't realised I was still on top of him." Uh-huh. Sure. And what a terrible shame that was.
"If I go out, Kondou will get mad at me." And then no more bum fun :( (me@me: WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!??! me: XD Sorry)
"Okita's eyes shone with admiration for Kondou." X_X The fanfiction writes itself...
Just to be clear, I think it's pretty gross to ship people with their guardians, even if they're both adults at the time, because that's called GROOMING.
"He isn't going to need the Water of Life. I'll make sure of that." ... How, Hijikata?! He's literally DYING of tuberculosis!
And now he's not eating :'(
"I just don't want to. Is that really a problem?" Yes, because you'll starve to death.
"Hm, you are a doctor's daughter... Maybe you just can't leave a sick guy alone?" Or maybe I just don't want YOU to die, ass >:'(
I WILL MAKE YOU WHATEVER YOU WANT, JUST EAT IT!!! Ooooooh! He's blushing :O
He doesn't like bitter stuff but wants me to put grated radish in his porridge? O_o Well, I'm glad that he's cooperating :D
"I'm only going to eat it if it's delicious." Well, if you don't like it, I'll try again! :D
"Don't think I've given up or something." Okay D': <3
EAT THE FOOD, OKITA >:D
"It makes me feel good..." Hooray ^_^
"Could you keep me company for a while?" :O Okey! :)
"What would I talk about?" HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND...
"He wasn't afraid to die," um, weren't you eavesdropping on his conversation with the doctor? -_-
"I want to help... But I'm getting weaker every day." Of course you do :'( This is more heartbreaking than him saying that you're not part of the Shinsengumi and just annoying DX
Maybe tell him that everybody likes having him around and that the Shinsengumi is where he belongs? Or, we could just leave him to wallow in misery... I guess that works, too X_X
"I couldn't see someone like Okita succumbing to a mere disease." ... Why, exactly? Is he supposed to fight it off with his sword or persuade it to fuck off with the force of his personality?
"He'll be fine. Right...?" NOOOPE.
SAITO 😍 I mean, uh, whatever... Totally not bothered at all...
WAIT, HOLD ON: SPY-TO. Yes, thank you. I am a genius :3
Finally murdering Itou for realskies! :')
I get that Hijikata and everyone are trying to look out for Okita but he's terminally ill. Keeping him out of the action is only going to keep him miserable until his inevitable demise. :'(
"Saito'll be here for a few days, so you'll have someone to play with." -_- Bit patronising, Hijikata X_X
Kazama being his usual, charming self X_X
Let's go find Okita and... Tell him to go back to bed? Okay...
What the fuck!?!! Kaoru!?!!
Do we ever get a decent explanation for why Kaoru was sent to live with some abusive fucks?
Kaoru... Why are you so short? I bet you were malnourished X_X
Okita's just watching this unfold, chomping on imaginary popcorn...
"Do you just plan to use her, like Kazama does?" O_o... I fucking hope not, because that would be INCEST!!!
"... No," OH, THANK GOD.
"What would you have done if I'd said yes?" Ugh, you said no already! Can we please move this conversation in a less incestuous direction X_X
"... No. You're free to take her." OKITA!!! HE'S MY BROTHER X_X Not that I'm expecting you to leap to my defense but this conversation is WEIRD as FUCK.
:O The Ochimizu! Is Kaoru trying to help Okita?! Misguidedly, but still.
"But... if their plan is to simply use my dear sister as some sort of demonic broodmare... I can't allow that to happen." ... Kaoru... :'O That's... Actually really sweet XO This is the first time that someone who claims to be part of my family has actually looked out for me :')
Oh, so Kaoru wants to use Okita to protect me from Kazama! I have a feeling that he's going to be disappointed if he thinks that Okita will do what he tells him to but I appreciate the gesture :')
"Please don't do anything that would hurt Kondou so, Okita." Ugh, even as he lies dying, he's supposed to be worrying about upsetting other people? >:(
"Okita the Fury; Okita the beast." X_X Bit harsh but okay.
"He had traded away his soul." Um, since when? XD
"Happy now, Kaoru Naguno?" "Yes I am." ... Fair.
"... For falling into my trap." Wait, what?!? O_O
"I'm happy I got to make my sister suffer." Kaoru, why? D': WE COULD HAVE HAD IT AAAAAAAAAAAAAA-AAA-AAALLL!!! DX
I'm glad that Kaoru did away with the Nagumo fuckers >:( But still, why take it out on me?!
Even dressed as a boy, Kaoru still looks prettier than Chizuru...
*Sigh* looks like I'm being choked, as usual X_X
I feel like Kaoru could easily have given Okita something much worse than the Ochimizu if he REALLY wanted to make me suffer.
"I'd run out of things to say." X_X Again?!
"This was my decision and I don't regret it." That is good to know :)
"You shouldn't get involved with a guy like me." Oh, here we go X_X
"That came out of nowhere," Too right!
"No" uh, does that mean "no, I won't get involved with you" or "no, I won't do as you say"???
Uh, is he crying?! "Hey! You can't just act like you're sick when you want something!" XD What the actual fuck is happening right now???
"I'm dead" ... Uh... Really? Because... You seem very much alive...
"I don't think Kondou wants you around just because he wants you to do things for him." FINALLY, some sense!
Aaaand, apparently, it's earned me The Unblinking Stare of Doom >:(
"Do you mind not trying to speak for Kondou." Do you mind not assuming that he's so much of an asshole that he'd kick you out just because you're inactive during the day?! >:(
"It's not like you're capable of knowing exactly how Kondou truly feels." YES, YUKIMURA!!! GET HIM!! >:D
"Do you think Kondou would still need me... Even if I can't hold a sword anymore?" YES.
"You're right." I know :3
"I'm just jealous of you, Okita, that you have someone like Kondou by your side." Yeah. >:'( Fuck you, Kaoru, fuck you, Kodo :'(
"Oh yeah, huh... I totally forgot." Ffs, Okita XD
"They just happened to be there when you were born, you know?" Yeah! >:( And they can all go to hell!
"Somehow, my chin had acquired something of an arrogant tilt" yaaaas! You live your best life, girl! Let go of the haters, cut out the negativity! Stick it to 'em!
Chapter 5:
"How dangerous could foreign weapons be?" Oh, my sweet, Summer Sanan X_X
"Why are you going on night rounds with us?" ... Wait, what?! Why am I going on night rounds?
AS IF putting myself in danger is going to help Okita in any way X_X
DAMN, KONDOU... Nice, uh, blood you're accessorising with, there. O_O MEDIC!!!
"Lucky for us, they're idiots." Hooraaaay!
Okita's not going to be happy when he sees this...
Speak of the devil...
HIJIKATA, STOP BEATING ABOUT THE BUSH.
"I thought for a moment that Okita was going to grab Hijikata and shake him." :O :D Please yes!
Okita is suuuuuper keen to blame Hijikata for this -_-
"If he dies, it's your ass in the fire, Hijikata." Another excellent image but this pointless conversation has gone on for too long X_X
"I will find you, no matter where you may be, and I will kill you." O_O OKITA!! I THOUGHT THAT YOU SAID YOU WERE CALM!!! Bloody hell X_X
Oh no... What has Okita done now X_X
Killing spree, mad science, aggressive interrogation, Hijikata murder? The possibilities are endless with this stabby boi.
Where exactly am I running to? "I had finally found him." HOW?! With the power of love?! O_o
Looks like "Killing spree" it is X_X
"I'm about to murder you." Ffs Souji X_X
"I'm just doing my job." OH YEAH?!? THEN WHY DID YOU FEEL THE NEED TO GO BEHIND EVERYONE'S BACKS, HUH?!
"What's wrong with me doing what I'm doing?" Yeah, what's wrong with sadistically slaughtering a bunch of virtually defenceless men as they attempt to retreat?! -_-
"I just killed people, no matter who it was, as long as it was what Kondou wanted." *Sigh* Kondou's not going to be around for ever, you know? X_X Maybe TRY think about why your doing what you're doing. Maybe learn from Kondou's example?
"Do not ever act out and worry the chief like that again." XD You tell him, Saito!
"Idiots." XD Hijikata
"I didn't wake up until evening had arrived." Oh look, it's me :)
OH, FUCK. That looked like a Kaoru silhouette :O
Why do they keep saying that Kaoru "tricked" Okita into drinking the Water of Life?! Kaoru offered it and Okita drank it. No trickery here!
"They wanted to avenge Itou. You remember him? The man you deceived and murdered?" XD Can't argue with that :')
"shoot the weaker target first." UGH. Why do I always get SHOT!?!
"Call me what you want." Oh, I intend to 3:)
Omg, I didn't get shot! :O BECAUSE OKITA USED HIMSELF AS A HUMAN SHIELD O_O ... BUT WHY?!??
NO, DON'T CHECK UP ON ME! WE NEED TO MOVE BEFORE WE GET SHOT AT AGAIN!!!
Oh no! O_O Doesn't look like he'll be moving any time soon O_O
"Okita! Okitaaaaa!" O_O
"It kills me to see you hurt, just as much as it kills you to see Kondou hurt!" O: <3 :'(
"What an idiot.. " No, Kaoru! You're the idiot! Because you will never be happy while you continue down this sadistic, evil path, wasting your own life trying to destroy someone else's and refusing to let go of your spiteful jealousy >:( At least Okita's risking his life for something good.
"The more despair and anger you feel, the more you look like me." ... Silver linings! :)
D: Did they use silver bullets?! :O
Wait, when did Yamazaki get wounded?! :O
Bless Hijikata for letting me stay with my crush XD
Final Chapter:
Yamazaki is fine :D Hooray!
"They need men, so we need to go now..." Uh... Then why aren't you dressed? X_X
"... I want you to remain calm as I tell you this." That is... NOT AN ENCOURAGING WAY TO START A CONVERSATION O_O
D': Inoue has fallen. :'( It hurts every time DX
Aw, he looks really sad :'( and no wonder...
"as soon as we arrive, I'm gonna swing my sword at anyone and everyone." Uh... That's the spirit X_X
Third Phase, Part 4
Previous
.
Enma paced in the hallway outside of Mami's operation room, his parents were seated in the chairs provided, tense and still.
Mami had just been admitted to the room not five minutes ago and already Enma was being wracked by nerves.
He knew that the fatality rate of Hanahaki surgeries was very low, almost nonexistent, but it didn't stop him from worrying.
His set of footsteps was joined by another and he looked at his parents to see which of them stood up, but neither of them had. A look down the corridor told him who joined them.
Enma's breath caught in his throat as he saw Tsuna approach him, a paper bag in hand. Tsuna smiled at him, causing Enma's worry to lighten- it hadn't disappeared, but suddenly, it was all much more bearable.
Tsuna smiled at him and raised the bag in his hand, "I burned the cookie batches, as promised."
Enma almost burst into hysterical laughter.
Tsuna sniffed, "You don't have to look incredulous. I'll have you know the cookies would be amazing with pudding. Pudding is good, heavenly even." Tsuna shoved the bag into Enma's hands and directed him to set in one of the chairs.
Enma inhaled and exhaled, "Yeah, okay, I get it. Anyway, what are you doing here? Aren't family members the only ones allowed here?"
"I know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows the hospital management." Tsuna winked at him. Tsuna winked! At! Him! Enma nearly died, then and there, and Tsuna didn't seem to notice, "Besides, I'm already a family member, aren't I? That's my little sister in the room."
Enma's mother huffed and stood up, grabbing Tsuna from the arm and tugging him towards her; she kissed him on the forehead and pulled him to the seats, pushing him to sit between her and her husband.
Enma's father patted Tsuna on the head, chuckling lightly, "You certainly are, Tsu."
Enma's brain almost short-circuited, of course his parents knew Tsuna; they were the ones who dropped Mami off to her support group meetings and picked her up before they had to go abroad for business and Enma was delegated to the job. It was only logical that they'd met Tsuna.
(Hell, they probably dropped Tsuna off at his house, too.)
In a bid to distract himself of his family's treachery (his parents and sister knew one of the most amazing people on earth and they didn't even bother to tell him about it!), he checked the bag's content, wondering how badly Tsuna purposefully ruined the cookies, only to see that the cookies weren't burned at all.
He closed the bag and looked questioningly at Tsuna, who cocked an eyebrow at him and said, "I hope you didn't expect me to actually give Mami charcoal for her recovery. I do know how to bake."
Enma merely shook his head and turned it to stare at the surgery room's door, anticipating news about Mami.
Except this time, the sense of foreboding and suffocating worry had dispelled, lingering behind as mere smoky trails.
.
Mami came out of the surgery in good health and faster than her family expected.
Not that they weren't glad for it.
("It's because her Hanahaki was still in the middle stages," Tsuna had explained, "The earlier you get the flowers removed, the faster.")
The hospital kept her overnight for observation and discharged her the next day.
Their return was without fanfare; though Adel and Rauji were waiting for them when they got back.
"Of course we were waiting," Adel said in response to his surprise, "Mami was just discharged from the hospital after going through surgery to remove her Hanahaki, and you expect us not to wait?"
Enma shook his head as he followed his parents and Mami into the house, "That's not it. How did you know when she was discharged? Even we didn't know the exact time."
"I know someone," Adel smirked at him.
Enma stared at her for a few second before realization dawned on him, "You're in contact with Tsuna."
Adel's smirk merely widened in response.
Mami's welcome back committee didn't stop there, not that Enma expected it to; not an hour later, Kaoru, Shittopi, Koyo and Julie came over.
Their presence as a whole was boisterous (as was their habit) and Enma was thankful for it; their constant snarking and remarks didn't give Mami the time to dwell on her feelings, or lack thereof. Enma knew better than to think it was a coincidence.
The impromptu 'welcome back' party lasted well into the night, until Enma's and Mami's mother deemed the time too late and ordered them to bed.
The group crashed on the couches, Mami carefully and intentionally positioned in the middle in a way that wouldn't let her sneak away without alerting anyone to the fact.
They'd let her have her space the next day, but for now, they were selfish and needed to keep her close, to bask in the fact that she escaped almost inevitable, too close for comfort, death.
Enma threw himself next to Kaoru on the floor, near the couch Adel and Julie commandeered to wrap Mami between them, and smiled to himself. Rauji inched close to him as Koyo turned off the lights and joined them. Shittopi sprawled herself over one of the single-seat couches, feet thrown on top of the coffee table.
Enma drifted into sleep, content and relaxed with his family's presence around him.
.
The next day brought surprises, mainly for Mami.
When the doorbell rang insistently, everyone was confused; they weren't expecting anyone and Tsuna promised to text to tell them when he was going to come over.
Enma went to open the door and was astonished when he saw Fuuta at the door, looking disheveled, tapping his foot and fiddling with the hem of his shirt.
When Fuuta saw the door had opened, he rushed inside, side-stepping Enma on his way in.
His feet thumped on the ground as he followed the sounds to the living room.
Enma followed after him, worried about what may happen now, with Mami and Fuuta under the same roof.
"Mami?" Enma heard Fuuta whisper.
"Fuuta…" Mami responded faintly, looking like she was seeing Fuuta for the first time. Tears gathered in her eyes, "Fuuta."
Fuuta's shoulders were trembling as he walked towards her and cradled her face with his hands before engulfing her in a fierce hug; she hugged him back, just as tightly.
And then the two broke into tears.
Enma shuffled awkwardly in place, what was he supposed to do now? His phone chimed in an incoming message; it was from Tsuna.
[Is Fuuta at your place? Mama called me and told me he left in a hurry this morning and didn't tell her where he was going.]
[I told him about Mami.]
Enma raked his hand through his hair and wondered if Tsuna would be any help with the crying mess.
[Yeah, he's here.]
Tsuna's reply was fast.
[!!!!]
[I'm sorry! I didn't know he'd go over so quickly!]
Enma quirked a fond smile, Fuuta coming over wasn't a bad thing, exactly, Enma was just shocked.
Perhaps Fuuta was the help Mami needed.
[it's okay. I don't mind.]
[It's just that… he and Mami are clinging to each and crying.]
[And I don't know what to do.]
[Should I come over or do you think Mami has her hands full with one person crying on her?]
Enma smiled at his phone.
[I think Fuuta has it covered.]
[Besides, even if Mami has her hands full with Fuuta, I'll gladly give you a shoulder to cry on.]
Enma put his phone in his pocket and his flaming face in his hands, he couldn't believe what he just said to Tsuna.
The phone chimed again.
Enma breathed deeply, mentally and emotionally preparing himself to the response.
[Naw. I think I've cried enough on your shoulder these past few weeks to last us months ^^;]
[I don't think I've ever properly thanked you for that :3]
[My door is always open for you. You're always welcome :D]
Enma smothered a scream, staring at the screen.
Adel snatched the phone from him, inspecting what pulled at his attention so strongly. Enma couldn't even muster energy to scramble after the phone to try and avoid the inevitable embarrassment.
Adel typed on his phone with a curious look on her face. The phone rang with another message, and Adel's facial expression turned into a satisfied one as she read the contents.
She looked back at Enma with a raised eyebrow, noticing how he was still rooted in place; pocketing his phone, she guided Enma towards a seat.
"You stay here until you finally muster up the energy to move, okay?"
Enma nodded mutely.
.
He didn't get to check (rather, didn't gather the energy to check) until late in the evening.
[This is Adel. You completely rendered Enma unable to function.]
[Oh my god D: I'm sorry T^T Maybe I shouldn't have came onto him so strongly ^^;]
Enma dropped the phone as Enma .exe stopped working for the second time that day.
.
Enma was booted by his family out of the house the next day to actually go to work, instead of operating from home.
His parents were back from abroad and Mami had been discharged from the hospital the day before yesterday; he had no excuse to not go to his main office anymore.
The thought of the amount of paperwork that would be delegated to him now that he was back again made him despair.
(And Adel would be there, which meant no chance to 'take a break'. Read: ditch work.)
He sighed and squared his shoulders, fixing a smile on his face before entering the building housing the Shimon's business company. He was greeted by the passing workers on his way to the elevator, many of which asked him about Mami's health and expressed interest in checking up on her.
Enma waved at them and told them to ask his parents about visiting as the elevator's doors closed.
The elevator was empty, thankfully, so he used the chance to sag against the wall.
Back to work with him it was.
The moment the doors opened, he rose up and dragged his feet out.
"Good timing," Adel said the moment she saw him, approaching him and pushing the folders in her hand to him, "The Vongola sent back the financial reports."
Enma blinked, "Aren't those the ones I sent back before I relocated to the office in my house? That was almost a month ago."
"Yes," Adel said, her mouth set in a firm line; Enma sweat-dropped.
At least he wasn't the only family head who liked to procrastinate on regular basis.
Enma dragged himself over to his office, he was back to work.
Great.
At least the chair was comfortable.
Enma stared at the folders for five minutes straight, wondering with which one he should start.
After much deliberation, he picked the thickest one, better get the worst out of the way first and end on a light note.
Opening the folder, he saw that the reports inside were signed, money transfers were authorized, and a request to visit Shimon Island was sent.
Enma blinked at the request, wondering what the Vongola could possibly want from the Island. It wasn't like there was much of material value there, and that was the point of the whole contact that was made with the Vongola. As far as Enma remembered and from what his father told him, Kozato Makoto, Enma's father and the pseudo-former Shimon head, had contacted the Vongola with an agreement to help renovate the Island after an attack by a rogue spirit.
(That was one wild story. Enma would have been of a mind to dismiss it as fiction had he not vividly remembered the scythe the aforementioned spirit wielded being poised above little Mami to strike her down.)
Vongola Decimo himself had gotten rid of the spirit, and since then, he'd maintained interest in the Shimon.
Borderline disturbing interest.
Enma dug through the other folders until he happened upon a handwritten letter from the Decimo himself.
Enma stared at the letter as if it was going to eat him. Apt, considering that no letter from Enrico di Vongola was ever tame.
Enma gathered his courage and scanned the contents of the letter; phrases like 'union', 'destined soulmates', 'descendants of a tragic love story' and 'fate' jumped at him.
Enma rubbed the bridge of his nose and had to rescan the letter.
Ten minutes later, after rereading the letter and scrutinizing it many times, he discerned that it was actually legitimate, and no one had accidentally switched the actual letter with one of the Decimo's fanfics.
(It had happened before. Many times. Enma regretted each and every one of them.)
Enma sighed, sagging into his chair; it was always tiring to deal with Enrico's special brand of insanity. And now he had to go give Vongola Primo's descendant a tour of Shimon Island because that same descendant would be Vongola's appointed relations manager from now on.
Dragging his hand through his hair, he looked through the folders for any clue about the Vongola descendant's identity until he found it in a paper carelessly slipped under the money transfer documents.
He grabbed the paper and read it. The name stood out quite clearly to him.
He stared.
The office door banged open, Julie rushing through it while carrying a chair, "Who is-?!" Julie halted, dropping the chairs, "Why are you screaming?"
Enma's mouth snapped shut, silencing the shrill screams he didn't know he was letting out.
"I'm dead. I'm going to die." Enma returned to staring at the paper in his hands, he couldn't believe his eyes, "Please tell me Enrico doesn't know oh god."
There, on the paper, was the name Sawada Tsunayoshi.
.
"I had no idea." Was the first thing Tsuna said to him when they met up for the scheduled trip to the Island.
Enma waved him off, "It's okay. It's not the worst thing Enrico ever did to me."
Enma was a filthy liar; it totally was the worst thing Enrico ever did to him.
Enrico set him up to give his crush a tour of his home island after sending him a letter phrased to make it look like he and his crush were soulmates and Enma wanted to murder Enrico.
Tsuna sent him a look, "Okay, I'll bite. Enrico is bad enough I can believe that. Did he mention anything about destined soulmates because of our ancestors', and I quote, 'tragic love story'?"
Enma failed to suppress the full body flinch and blush at the question.
Tsuna patted him on the shoulder, "It's okay. It's going to be okay."
"Never mind that." Enma shook his head, "How did he get you to work on something like this? I'd have thought the Vongola would give more care and be more watchful of their founder's descendant."
"I had an agreement with Enrico after I became fifteen. I work at the civilian companies owned by the Vongola, and he takes me out of being in-line to inherit." Tsuna looked to the horizon, eyes distant as if recalling particularly traumatizing memories, "The things I did for him to convince Xanxus not to declare me the Dodicesimo heir." Tsuna shuddered, "Never again am I working in handling negotiations with other famiglie. It wasn't the dress or heels that were the horrific parts, but the way people eyed me."
Enma put a comforting arm around Tsuna, "There, there. Things will get better from here on out, I promise."
Tsuna blinked at him, "I still don't get it. I mean, I just smiled at them and they turned weird."
Enma's arm tightened around Tsuna; smiled? Tsuna smiled at them? What? Just what? Those lucky bastards.
What were their names? Enma needed to destroy the competition.
Enma forcefully halted his train of thoughts? Competition? He just had a crush on Tsuna, he wasn't serious about pursuing Tsuna in a romantic sense or anything. There was no need to get jealous.
Enma was a filthy, filthy liar, he realized as his shoulders drooped, eliciting a worried look from Tsuna.
"Oh, I'm okay, don't worry. Now where were we before we started talking about the Vongola?"
"The tour around the island."
"Yeah. The tour. So, Shimon Island."
"Hey, Enma? Did you grow up here?"
Enma led the way from the pier to the island, "Yeah. I lived here for eight years before we had to relocate. I don't know if you heard about the incident…"
"The attack?" Tsuna frowned, "Yeah, I heard. It was hard not to, the attacker disguised himself as my father, I heard it was planned to ruin the Vongola-Shimon relations."
Enma almost missed a step, but he recovered quickly enough, making sure not to let out any indication of his sudden surprise. It was a bit ironic; the one who came to kill Enma's family disguised himself as a man whose son went on to save Mami's life and, subsequently, Enma's family.
(A tiny, insignificant part of him wondered how differently things would have gone had the Vongola not been on the lookout for Deamon Spade. Enma squashed that thought a second later.)
