With Mocha in her arms as she unlocked the front door to The Sipping Cup and stifled a yawn, Stevie made her way through the front of the coffee shop, flipping on the lights as she did. She'd been up late the night before, having begun a rewatch of Boy Meets World on Disney+, the nostalgia gripping her into the wee hours of the morning. So she'd later blame the fact that she didn't notice Dakota was already there on her lack of caffeine intake and the scream that left her mouth when the two nearly collided.

"Dakota! Jesus, you nearly gave me and Mocha a heart attack." The cat had leaped from her arms at the sound of her scream and now her hand was on her chest, covering her thundering heart. "What are you doin' here so early?"

"I can't wait for Pride this weekend," Lila grinned as she tried to fold up her flag but instead just shoved it in her supplies bag. A crinkled lesbian flag wouldn't hurt anyone, would it? "And to show you those places in London I've found this last year. You're gonna love it. Maybe we can even sneak into a theatre show or something."

Rosa whooped and applauded as the most recent act finished their performance, turning to her friend and co-worker, “They were so good! Don’t you think so? I’m just sad I’ve forgotten their band name so I can look them up later.”

"are you going to keep staring or join me?" asked dakota, her noses crinkling. maybe she should have thought it through. she hadn't even thought twice about how it was possibly insane. she had stripped off her clothes and jumped right in. it didn't matter to her how it might look. especially since it was so late and it wasn't exactly warm out. plus she knew that their friends might notice that they were gone.

dakota had no idea why she was even invited to a "family" dinner. it wasn't like she had much to do with her adoptive parents. apparently her brother had a new girlfriend that he wanted the whole family to meet. that was how she found herself in her childhood home and putting everything together for a salad. of course there had already been a lecture about her latest tattoos. she didn't think twice about how she heard voices and the front door. though she heard her brother's voice," kota! where are you?" she rolled her eyes at the sound," kitchen!" she was turning to grab the cutting board and beginning to slice up a tomato. though she nearly dropped the knife when she looked up to see her brother and his girlfriend. the woman she had hooked up with a party a few weeks back," you look far too pretty to be with my brother."

"It's nicer up here, right? Feels like the one place I can hear my own thoughts. Or even better, have no thoughts." Ella let out a long breath as she looked out at Tonopah Falls. She had led Dakota to the roof of the building where Lujosa Lounge was. It was a busy night and as much as Ella was tempted by losing themselves in the crowd, tonight was the kind of night they just needed some distance. But it was easy to find when they had found Dakota in the crowd and convinced her to slip away with them for a little bit. A bottle of champagne and a bottle of wine sat between them and if they had been younger Ella may have easily slid her arm around Dakota's shoulders. But they knew better now, knew that no matter how many times their crush for the woman resurfaced she would never feel the same or really see them in that light. Which was probably good and part of the reason Ella hadn't totally ruined this friendship.

"You still happy you came back? I don't know if you were missing much," they admitted as they reached for the wine and took a few long swigs. "I mean personally, selfishly so, I'm happy. I missed seeing you and pretty much you'll reach the year mark and we'll celebrate that and then you're never getting rid of me." They smirked though they hoped it was true. As much as Ella wished to run away, start over and disappear, they could never leave their sisters. And it was nice to be around Dakota again. In a way that felt both easy and terrifying. Like any moment Ella would spill out their secrets and let Dakota know just how badly she was doing. But every time she came close, something made her pull back. They didn't want Dakota's perspective to change. Or worse, her pity. "You good with the champagne and wine? I could always get us something else. You know I know a guy," they teased and nudged her lightly. "Just saying, you let me know what you want." @dakotafitzgerald

“I’ve got dinner ready for when we get back tonight so please don’t fill up on all the crap that you usually do,” Auden told his sister. “Or get drunk and end up in Delilah’s bed, that would also be a pain for me to come and get you especially since I made your favourite dessert.”

"For you, just how you like it." Hernando had been surprised when he had finally heard from Dakota, not trying to think too much about it or hold out too much hope. He had kept himself pretty busy lately with Aria's restaurant and some finishing touches on the B&B as it was slated to re-open next weekend. So Dakota's text had been a welcome surprise and he tried to be at ease as he sat across from her with his coffee as soon as he handed her the cup he had gotten for her. "Hospital taking all of your time, huh? Do you ever actually get any time off? I hope so," he admitted, folding one arm on the table as he looked at her. "So uh, you still liking Tonopah? I gotta admit, when we ran into each other a few weeks ago I thought I was seeing shit. Kind of shook me up. Not in a bad way just in a..way that reminded me that home isn't too far. Your past is kind of always around you, but doesn't have to be a good thing. I'm rambling, please shut me up and tell me about your day." @dakotafitzgerald

"I'm here to make sure you have a decent dinner and don't pass out on your couch before you remember to eat." Ella's smile grew slowly as they leaned against their car and watched Dakota walk out of the hospital. While Ella wasn't the best romantic partner or general human, they did take being a good friend fairly seriously. Especially recently. Part of that included showing up for Dakota when she had an especially long shift and when Ella was sure she wouldn't feel all too prepared to take care of herself. So that's what Ella was there for. They walked towards her and took whatever bags she had, putting them in their back seat before opening the passenger door for her. "Come on, Doctor Fitzgerald, your chariot awaits." @dakotafitzgerald

"I can understand that," Pepper sympathized. "I also grew up thinking that the way I was being raised was just how it was meant to be. Only with time and experience did I discover that it was not normal."

Dakota shrugged lightly, it hurt but it was also all that she knew growing up. “Honestly, I didn’t know any different, so I didn’t really know what else I was missing.”
