     ❝ STOP -- !! ❞   

     THE TRACK halts -- Ziggy yanks his headphones from his neatly coiffed hair and fumbles to drop them around his thin neck.  ❝ All wrong, all wrong -- ugh. ❞  A vibrant groan tumbles from him, and he drags himself out of the chair to fling open the door to the recording booth, an accusatory finger aimed at Zack.  Despite his somewhat waifish appearance, the singer -- the famous singer, he corrects himself snidely -- certainly hopes he is duly intimidating.  After all, it would be unwise to waste his time, especially given his endless charity in being as kind as to allow less popular acts to share a scant sliver of his well-deserved time in the spotlight.  It is not every day one has the utter privilege of performing his instrumental backings.  The young man with the guitar is talented -- he knows that for certain, or he would not have hired him.  Whether or not he can keep up with Ziggy’s somewhat capricious demands is, altogether, a skill unrelated to music.

     ❝ I’M NOT saying it’s bad, ❞ he prefaces -- the curt frown spread over his thin lips suggests otherwise, but he makes some vague gesture with his hands, struggling to articulate a point that escapes him.  ❝ It’s just ... not good, ❞ he settles, ❝ and I need you to do it better. ❞ The critique is hardly constructive, but it’s all he delivers: there’s a strained smile stretched over his pink-glossed lips, taunt as a tourniquet, and manages between the clench of his teeth, ❝ can you do it over, darling ?  And can you do it properly ? ❞
