hi . ur literally the only other person ive seen who even knows that paul murray exists as an author, as well as the only person ive seen who has read the mark and the void (my all time favourite book ever)

yessss right back at you!! he's so underrated and his stuff is so brilliant, I'm so glad to know there are other people out there who were impacted by Paul Murray books :)

on top of just being a hilarious masterpiece of metafiction, The Mark And The Void was a wild experience for me personally to read as someone who's obsessed with a different Paul Murray book since like. TMATV is essentially a Paul Murray book that's a parody of a Paul Murray book about Paul Murray books featuring Paul Murray. it's like four layers deep of artifice. very strange experience for someone who has some degree of parasocial relationship with him lol.

it took me three years of being obsessed with Skippy Dies to delve into any of his other books and the part that makes me most insane in The Mark And The Void is when they're talking about how you see something new every time you look at the art piece:

because like....that's what happened to ME by vehicle of another Paul Murray book!!! like I've been obsessed with Skippy Dies for almost five years now and I'm STILL finding out new things about it and finding new connections, it's just like unbelievably incredibly complex and dense. like does Paul Murray even know that he himself created a piece of art like that. it torments me.
