It was late, it was dark, and Echo had no clue where they were, their nose and ears being alternatives to locate where exactly they were. Their nose picked up a rather familiar scent that eventually led them to the shabby building they were in now. Energy that allured them like a moth to a flame. Unfortunately, it seems that someone else is also present, a red being causing quite the commotion as he effortlessly pushes various items aside. While the quiet would be much preferred, Echo's curiosity took priority.

The young rat remained high up the ceiling, crawling and hopping along the wooden beams of the warehouse and eyeing the strange red creature. Deciding to take a closer look, Echo decides to attempt to greet him.

Though, with the lack of personal space.

The small creature flinches at the sudden scream, and a small flash of light briefly appears in the beings place. One second they're gone. The next, they're back close to the ceiling. Fur standing on end while their heart raced incessantly.

"Ah! Loud," Echo exclaims, recoiling back with their hands holding their ears down flat against their head, akin to that of a small child attempting to hide themselves away.

"Loud, loud, loud.", they repeat themselves. "Please don't be noisy. I-It hurts my ears a lot!"

It's a dream that's been more and more reoccurring as the days blur together and go by, a vast empty void accompanied by a thick fog. A figure shaped much like the one sealed away in the vat stands there, facing away from them. Echo always wanted to meet them, even if they were being taught to oppose him. To surpass his abilities and overpower him should a day he releases arrives, that's what they were built for. To be a weapon that obeys.

But not all creations are meant for their creators purpose.

They run, and run, and run, yet the figure walking from afar still remains no closer than it is now.

Echo tries to wave, to yell out, but nothing grabs the others' attention. Any noise they try to emit falls on deaf ears. Ironic, how alone they feel when there's seemingly someone present. Panic wells up in their chest, the overwhelming feeling of isolation becomes too much to bear. Mouth moving with no sound, the pleads to hear them silenced by the creeping cacophony of noise, becoming more and more abundant and visual not too long after as the world distorts around them.

Their red clawed hand reaches out, and as soon as that figure turns his head.

Echo wakes up.

Drenched in sweat, eyes shot open to see that they're in their bed, their enclosure, their prison. Telemetry electrodes stick onto their head and arms, monitoring their vitals. The uncomfortable pit that's been faint but present ever since that day, the day they saw that hedgehog, still naïve morality fighting what they were told. It's no longer becoming something to ignore. To keep going on like this will be the end of them. The noise of incessant beeping from the machines filled their ears alongside muffled alarms from outside.

the gut feeling insists that this is their chance. They need to get out. Be somewhere, anywhere but here.

This isn't a place for someone like them.

After an incident involving Echo’s death, they were unexpectedly visited and resurrected by Mephiles the Dark by making an agreement to aid in his plans as a way to get back at humanity for causing both of them harm. They now assist him in gathering the Chaos Emeralds to eradicate the ones that have mistreated them both. Though, Echo’s slowly doubting if this is the right thing to do…

MOVIE VERSE:

A living weapon created by G.U.N. using Shadows DNA and a lab rat as a base in order to recreate the ultimate lifeform. Unfortunately, the subject woke up far too early, resulting in a childish naive rat who wants to learn about the world.
