[I have permission to reblog and gush about this so don't get weird nerds. I'm just VIBRATING with thoughts and how this and Nabooru's terrarium so ORGANICALLY showcase the differences in how they viewed their home and I LOVE IT.
For reference, here's Nabooru's again:
Tumblr media
Since the dawn of time, I've always loved the dichotomy of Nabooru and Ganondorf in a general sense. Of the super interesting dynamic that could and likely does exist between the two of them. One of the dichotomies between these two that I think is so fascinating and has been accidentally depicted with these terrariums is how Ganondorf and Nabooru view their home so differently.
As we can see in this and canon, Ganondorf sees the desert as a tomb for his people. A place of death and desolation that stretches as far and as endlessly as the sand. It's isolation and ruin. You'll find nothing but spirits, death, and no life outside of the hardiest of people, plants, and creatures. He loathes the desert and looks beyond its borders for strength, power, and prosperity as a result. It's what leads him to his ambitious attempts to steal the Triforce and take over Hyrule, much to Nabooru's chagrin.
Nabooru on the other hand sees beauty and potential in their desert home. She's always loved the desert, found its sparkling sands beautiful and the climate as a force that strengthened their people. She never blamed the desert explicitly for those who fell; instead, she would place the blame on the war that shrunk their numbers and supplies to near destitution. And of course some Gerudo did fall to the whims of the elements (peep the ghosty in the corner that serves multiple purposes i think but this is definitely one), but she pointed fingers at the political climate not the natural one for their troubles because she believed her people were more than equipped in most cases to deal with the desert. Unwilling and hostile neighbors are the true villains in the Gerudos' story.
Bringing this idea back to the terrarium, Nabooru's shows that there is life, beauty, and prosperity in the desert through depictions of the palm trees you can find at the oases and the gorgeous crimson blooms one could find if they knew where to look. The treasure is symbolic of the untapped prosperity she believes the Gerudo can access if they place their focus on trying. Thus, this was her position against Ganondorf when she understood that Hyrule had no intention of helping them: where Ganondorf looked to Hyrule and solutions outside of the desert, Nabooru insisted they focused on truly making the desert their own. In truly conquering the desert to achieve their dreams of allowing the Gerudo to LIVE not just survive.
But aaaaah. I was so pleased when I saw Parli's depiction of Ganondorf's terrarium because it just exemplifies the very different ideas they had about the desert pre-oot and I adore it so muuuuch. It gave me an excuse to gush about that and what Nabooru pushed for while Ganondorf was making trouble in Hyrule.]

[Your Sinday tidbit:
When Nabooru goes swimming, she prefers to skinny dip. She likes the way it feels and it doesn't make sense to her to either get the clothes she's wearing wet or to have special clothing to swim in.]

aloe , daisy , ivy [ headcanon meme ]
Botanical Headcanons || Open!
aloe : how does your muse handle grief ?
[answered!]
daisy : did your muse ever feel as though their innocence had been lost ? what moment in their life could be described as the end of their innocence ?
Tumblr media
[I don't think it sunk in at the time as losing her innocence, but the weight of her people's plight and their place in the world overall really sank in when Aveil's mother and the Gerudo's best general was killed in battle by a Hylian stabbing attacking her from behind. Though she was only five, she had already been surrounded by death for a good portion of her life, both from the conditions of their environment (though, before the war, things were better for the Gerudo) and due to the toll the war took on their tribe. However, because this death was more personal and one she came to understand is what lead to their loss, it was then that she started to really dig into ideas of not just wanting to be the greatest warrior the tribe had ever seen but also in wanting to help better their lives and make sure this couldn't happen again.]
ivy : what are your muse’s views on marriage ? do they believe it is something strictly for love , or an institution rooted in business & social benefits ? do they desire or have they desired to be married ?
Tumblr media
[Considering she was engaged before...everything, she doesn't necessarily despise the idea. However, marriage in Gerudo society is very rare since the general loyalty to the tribe doesn't always play particularly well with other cultures' ideas of marriage and how it should work, and the fact that it's not something that's pushed culturally (*stares in angy @ bo.tw and to.tk*) like it is for other cultures, especially when it comes to women.
With that said, Nabooru has a neutral-ish view on marriage, though, depending on the context, it might lean more toward a negative view when generalizing the idea of marriages for social benefits and the like as well as how Gerudo women who WANT to get married to a Hylian often don't because the Gerudo wants to be with their tribe as much as possible, but most Hylians expect to live with their partner full time (and if it's a heterosexual marriage, the majority of Hylian men expect women to take care of the children and home, meaning she would have to break from the tribe completely to do so).
Thus, Nabooru definitely does feel like marriage should be for love, not convenience or status or anything else, which stems both from her own ideals about love and relationships as well as how the Gerudo don't view marriage as a necessity in any way. To them, relationships are just as valid without marriage, so it's more typically viewed as a reason to celebrate with the Gerudo than anything legal, religious, or super binding outside of how the couple perceives themselves as bonded together or monogamous if that's how they feel.
As for Nabooru's case of nearly marrying, it was definitely out of love, but not something that was necessary. Even though her title would change, her duties would stay notably the same. What mattered to her in accepting the proposal was first and foremost she was in love. Head over damn heels. Second, it was because it further showed that Ganondorf not only trusted her, but that he trusted and respected her enough to WANT to name her his queen. But on top of that, it also meant that they could actually be public with their relationship instead of hiding it after the marriage (even though everyone basically knew they were at least canoodling anyway). Marriage itself wasn't the reason she accepted; that didn't matter because she liked their relationship as it was and didn't need anything like a ceremony or celebration to legitimize it.]

She's been in one of those moods, and she's been thinking about how she lowkey misses sharing her bed with someone. Not necessarily in a sexual way but just...that security of someone she trusts and cares for next to her. Waking up to them the next morning and starting the day with their company, even if only for a while. The potential for morning sex is nice too; she won't lie about it. It's something she never thought she would miss until the option just wasn't there anymore.

[It's me. Momo. Back at it again writing more Nabsgan one-shots instead of working on my New Year's Resolution of getting my book published. 👍
Anyway, I've just had a mighty need lately so this is happening. Small warning, it's a little spicy but nothing explicit or graphic. Got a little bit of angst if you know how to look at it ahaaaa. BUT I hope the three Nabsgan fans on this website enjoy this little sweet and fun thing I wrote for two dumbasses. :'3
Translation note: "miv ra'aq" literally means "my sun" but it is a term of high endearment for the Gerudo.]
While Nabooru welcomed the ache in her muscles from her final training session of the evening, the sweat glistening on her skin in the torchlight and the cooling sensation afforded to her whole body from the night’s air crawling in through the windows of the fortress, she did not care for the exhaustion weighing heavy on her limbs and eyelids as she trudged toward Ganondorf’s room. The final task and request of the night–one she was running later for than she meant to–and then she could catch a few winks of sleep before waking with the sun and starting over again. That thought in mind, she considered saving her some steps and energy after their meeting and staying in his room instead. If her tardiness didn’t sour his mood so much that he would refuse to let her.
Approaching the ornate doors, the gold embellishments gleaming too brightly in her tired eyes, she pushed the door open and entered, stifling a yawn with the back of her hand. “Sorry I’m late. I wanted to make sure the new beats for the guards covered the blind spots we previously had in surveillance.”
“I did not realize such a task would work up a sweat.” Ganondorf snapped his book shut and stood, dropping the tome on the cushions he abandoned. He stretched his arms over his head, drawing her gaze, purposefully or not, to the lengthening of his muscular arms and bare torso. His arms dropped back to his sides, thick brows low over his amber eyes and his disapproving frown tugging the corners of his lips downward. “Were you sprinting to do these rounds?”
“I’m here now, aren’t I?” she sniffed, folding her arms as she crossed the room. She paused in front of him. “And if you must know, I wanted to get a last training session in since the meeting you called cut my usual morning training short.”
“I suppose it makes the bath I prepared for us more worthwhile.”
An eyebrow rose in question, but she did not fight the calloused fingers tracing along the top of her pants to rest at the small of her back or the lips finding purchase against her neck. “A bath and feeling me up is hardly urgent business,” she responded, head tilting as her hands wandered along his sides, “especially not with that look you gave me when I walked in.”
“You know I don’t like to be kept waiting, Nabooru.” The growl in his voice sent a shiver pirouetting through her body, her response silenced by his lips attaching to her own. “And I don’t want the water to get cold.”
“I figured you would revel in the excuse to show off your magical prowess.”
A punishing nip to her lower lip elicited a soft giggle before she kissed him again, arms looping around his neck as he deepened the kiss. Hands on her hips, Ganondorf lifted her from the ground, feet leaving the rug beneath them. Legs wrapped around his waist as he carried her to the private washroom in the back of his room, the trip problem free despite their maintained lip lock thanks to his heightened awareness and familiarity with his space. One hand left her backside to push the curtain aside and, once they were in the room, the steam of his magically filled and heated tub swirling around them in a humid mist, he parted his lips from hers.
With a slight lift of her backside, he silently coaxed her to release her legs from his waist and lowered her to the mosaic-tiled floor. She dropped her arms from his shoulders in favor of pulling the ruby from her hair, her crimson tresses falling down her back and over her shoulders. She idly shook them out as she unabashedly watched her lover remove his pants and climb into the tub with a content sigh. The basin had been remodeled to give him ample space within it to stretch out and relax, despite his protests to avoid wasting time and resources when he could make due with what already existed in the chief’s or king’s quarters. However, Twinrova insisted the king deserved to bathe in privacy and comfort instead of being subjected to a tiny bathtub or the communal baths with the rest of the tribe. While the snobby demeanor of the sorceress’s request irked her, Nabooru couldn’t complain too loudly about it; private baths with Ganondorf were one of her favorite ways to spend time with him.
Plucking her rings off each finger, she set them and her gloves next to the wash basin, followed by her choker. “Is it still warm? Was all your attitude for nothing?” she asked, toeing off her shoes.
“Mm, indeed.” He draped his arms over the lip of the tub, cracking an eye open to watch her finish undressing. “It's the perfect temperature.”
“I’ll be the judge of that.”
Kicking her pants over to where she discarded her top–still the typical white of an Elite; her mother still worked on her specially tailored outfit to better suit her rank of second in command–she padded over to the tub and climbed in. Immediate relief washed over her, a pleased sigh escaping her lips as she sank beneath the water across from Ganondorf, adjusting her legs to allow them both to share the space comfortably. She inhaled the soothing hint of cool safflina entangled with the rising steam and closed her eyes. The combination of the two soothed both her aching muscles and her tired mind.
“Well?” asked Ganondorf after a moment, his deep voice drawing her back from her near doze.
“Mm, eight out of ten on the heat level.” Nabooru smirked when she opened her eyes, and noted the flare of his nostrils. “But the cool safflina scent is a nice touch and makes up for it.”
“In retrospect, I should have chosen a different scent it seems,” he mused, “one with less of a chance of putting you to sleep.”
“Like feet?”
Before Ganondorf could process her ludicrous suggestion, Nabooru braced her hands on the lip of the tub and, stretching her leg toward him, lifted her foot from the water so it was level and an inch from his nose. She cackled as he grunted and turned his face away. “I think that would keep us awake, don’t you?”
“Childish,” he rumbled, but his smirk belied his annoyance with her antics. In half a blink, his calloused fingers snagged her ankle in a grip just tight enough that she couldn’t wriggle free from. “But I have a better solution.”
A firm, forward tug of her ankle yanked her beneath the water, her surprised gasp filling her mouth and lungs with water. Limbs flailed as she struggled to resurface, and her hands finally found purchase on the side of the tub again to tank herself back from the depths of the tub. She sputtered and coughed, her wheezing juxtaposed by Ganondorf’s hearty laughter. When she regained control, she slapped the surface of the water, splashing water in his face. However, his laughter was infectious enough to revive her smile.
“You wouldn’t be laughing if that killed me.”
“So dramatic,” he teased through the tail end of his chuckles. He held his arms out to her, beckoning her into them with a crook of his fingers. “I simply think you’re absolutely stunning when you’re soaking wet.”
Nabooru smoothed the curtains of damp hair back away from her face and heeded his invitation with a mild pout. It melted the instant she rested her back against his chest and his muscled arms curved around her frame. Her fingers danced idly along his forearms. “Well, there are much more pleasant ways you can do that.”
Another chuckle, and he lifted her hand to his lips. “Mm, perhaps,” he muttered, kissing along each of her knuckles. He turned it over and kissed her palm. “But I like to keep things interesting. I couldn’t bear to be predictable.” He nipped her palm, then, smirking. “I'll focus on that later.”
“I'll hold you to it.” Cupping his cheek, she twisted at the waist to steal a proper kiss. “I do still love you despite your attempt to drown me.”
He smiled as she resettled in his arms and nuzzled the top of her head. “I love you too, Nabooru.”
Silence once more fell between them, comfortable and easy. Ganondorf would occasionally toy with her fingers or kiss her temple, face lingering against her head. Finally, just when her eyelids closed and a dozing sleep overcame her, his voice, tender and velvet, tore her from sleep's grasp.
“I have something for you.”
“Mm, yeah?” she answered through a stifled yawn. “It's not bad news or something, is it?”
“I hope not.”
Carefully, Ganondorf readjusted her position in his lap so she sat sideways on his thigh. He held his hand out. Shadows swirled momentarily within his palm before a glint of gold replaced them. Nabooru's lips parted in awe, the appearance of the stunning and intricate piece of jewelry fully distracting her from her discomfort with the magic used to materialize it. The ruby shimmered in the light of the torches along the walls, the gold seemingly lit aflame.
“Did you make this? Like really make it?” she asked, tearing her gaze away from the armband to meet Ganondorf's amber gaze. “It's…stunning…”
“With a little guidance from Shini, yes. She probably could have done something more intricate but…I wanted–no, needed–this gift to bear more meaning than a craft commissioned from another. Or created through magic.”
Her heartbeat doubled in tempo, anticipation coiling in her core. “Oh?” she croaked out, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. It took every ounce of her control not to squirm in his arms. To not assume the meaning of his words before he spoke them.
“Nabooru.” His free hand cupped her cheek then trailed down to the center of her left bicep. “I can no longer remember a time where I was not in love with you. Nor can I fathom going a single day without you by my side in the future. Someday, I hope to call you more than just my lover, my second in command. I hope to call you my queen.”
Queen. The word echoed through her mind and off the stone walls and tiled floor, eliciting equal parts gratuitous excitement and mild panic. Years ago, she would have sworn to the world, the gods, and anyone else that she would never marry. It was hardly important to the Gerudo, anyway, and her ambitions would frighten most prospective partners. However, as her relationship with Ganondorf evolved, each new day making it harder for her to deny the depth of her love for him, the idea, when it waltzed into her mind on those idle days where she couldn't focus on paperwork or as she laid in his arms halfway between waking and sleep, ceased to feel so uncomfortable. Outlandish and impossible. And now, with his proposal presented, the knee jerk panic that swept in dissipated. Lips curling into a grin, she crushed her lips to his and looped her arms around his neck. He returned her kiss with equal ferocity, arms tight around her.
“I would be more than honored to be your queen,” she answered, breathlessly against his lips. “Not just for the opportunity to continue to lead our people at your side but because there is no one else in this world I can imagine binding myself to like this.” She cupped his face in her hand, thumb tracing along his cheek bone as she kissed him again. “I will love you until the end of my days and beyond, Ganondorf. Nothing will change that.”
He smiled and recaptured her lips in another passionate kiss, tongue slipping past her parted lips as the arm draped around the small of her back pulled her flush against him. His free hand masterfully secured the band to her left bicep. The cool metal on her warm skin felt right, the weight perfect.
“I just have one request,” rumbled Ganondorf, giving her kiss-swollen lips a playful nip and lick.
Nabooru hummed, amused. “And what would that be?”
The Gerudo king tugged her close, hands trailing the length of her spine to her backside. He gave it a squeeze as he leaned forward, his hot breath tickling her ear as he said, “I want you to keep the armband on while I ravish you tonight.”
The simple request sent a blazing fire rushing through her, thighs squeezing together. A nod. “Anything for you, miv ra'aq.”

[Playlist is all over today, but I will always say that Hunchback of Notre Dame as maybe the best soundtrack of all the Disney movies. But also God Help the Outcasts is a huge Nabooru song. Especially the theme of "I want nothing for me but everything for my people" is very her.]

[Nabooru was so confused and lowkey mad at Aveil for the whole "honorary Gerudo" thing. While the frustration didn't last long since it didn't really matter with Link gone, she did make sure to give Aveil a talking to about basically letting people "join" the Gerudo like it was some kind of exclusive club. While Nabooru and the Gerudo had started making plans toward opening the desert up more to travelers to some degree, letting anyone in and giving "memberships" would not be at all what she had in mind for it.]

[I've definitely talked about it before, but I like this HC so I'm going to talk about it again.
OoT era Gerudo had a sort of "uniform policy", at least in regard to the prominent colors that appeared in their clothing. Style could generally be whatever they felt most comfortable with and suited their personal style (yes, I know we see like 3 models in this game but bear with me; I'm building this world from the crumbs ok). The colors were based on the sector they worked in, and everything else, from patterns included to the jewelry they chose to wear or how they styled their hair, was completely up to each individual Gerudo.
Here are the categories (we'll see if I've kept this consistent because it's not something that comes up often):
Guards: purple Warriors: red Stable hands/horse experts/trainers: yellow Healers/medics: green Artisans/architects/builders: orange The Elite: white
Children do not have a color they wear prominently in their clothing. Additionally, the chief, her second in command, the king (if there is one at the time), and his second in command have specially designed clothing for them so they stand out and do not have to wear a certain color prominently in their garb. They also sport headpieces that signify their rank.]

[While Nabooru isn't much of a natural dancer (or SHE feels she isn't), she does enjoy learning the different, choreographed dances her people do during festivals as well as simply letting loose and moving her body to music in that or similar settings. It's rare you'll catch her dancing in any other capacity unless she's just Feeling It. She can recognize that it's a freeing experience and good exercise, even if it's not something she does often.]

[Honestly, Nabooru was probably a bit floored about how many animals there were beyond the borders of the desert when she left it for the first time. The desert has its own share of beasties and monsters, plenty of which she did not get to see until later in her life thanks to the sandstorms Twinrova had created, but a lot of the wildlife she witnessed in Hyrule in that first sojourn were brand new to her unless she happened to come across a picture or something in a book (which wasn't all THAT likely).
While she was curious, though, she never got around to studying them or anything like that. Though, when she started traveling with Ganondorf, she probably annoyed the hell out of him with all her questions about the animals they cam across because she knew how much of a nerd he was and figured he probably had done his research and she liked to hear him talk.]

🦎 + marriage
🦎s for Headcanons || Open!
[After Ganondorf's demise, Nabooru swore off the idea of ever marrying. While this isn't necessarily surprising considering Gerudo culture, her own view of marriage itself, and how she doesn't feel she has the time to foster that kind of relationship, she not only doesn't see it happening, but she doesn't WANT it to.
Until Ganondorf proposed, she never expected to marry, even to him when they were in a relationship beforehand. Only with him did she LIKE the idea of being married, even if it wouldn't change much. Considering it now doesn't give her the same joy or comfort. Imagining herself bound like that to someone else doesn't appeal to her. Their relationship was special to her. HE was special to her, and she is pretty stubbornly convinced no one will be as suitable for her as he was. Plus, in a lot of ways, despite their differences and the end of their relationship, she would feel like she's betraying his memory (and she had already done enough to betray him). Their plans and what they were beginning to build together. In a way, she...kind of still feels like she's still engaged to him, either out of the love she felt for him even in their worst hours or some attachment to the fact that they never REALLY broke it off, the latter likely being exacerbated by being brainwashed before that could happen IF it was going to happen. It's why she hasn't pulled what so many people in movies and books and the like do with their wedding/engagement rings when things go south: she can't bring herself to get rid of or stop wearing the arm band he gave her (sorry, no dramatic tossing the jewelry into Lake Hylia here).
All of this even though she is fully aware he would very, very likely heap nothing but hatred on her name. That he would view their relationship and his proposal to her as a mistake and perhaps with no fondness at all. That he would kill her on site, if not torture her first. But...she doesn't hate him for what he did, not really. She was afraid of the repercussions her people might see and she was afraid FOR him when she saw him changing before her eyes, but she can't hate him herself. She does understand how he got where he was.
Because of this and other factors like the brainwashing leading to a sort of weird gap in time for her and her views of marriage anyway, when it comes to the promise she made to him and their relationship, she both feels guilty for seeking out marriage again and just generally doesn't have any desire to do so.]

🦎 + water
🦎s for Headcanons || Open!
[Nabooru actually really likes to swim, whether its for exercise, recreation, or just to relax. Back when she was young, one of the teachers always took any Gerudo that wanted to learn to swim to the lake during the summer months in Hyrule to teach them. It started out as a desire to simply never be caught off guard, in case for some reason she ended up tossed into a body of water in a fight or something. But then it turned into something she actually enjoyed and found relaxing.
Thus, if she leaves the desert on her off days, her first choice is to go to Lake Hylia and spend the day swimming. If not there, then she'll travel to one of the oases in the desert and spend time there, relaxing in the water. She finds both places peaceful, as usually there aren't other people there (Lake Hylia she's more likely to meet others like a Zora or two but she doesn't care; they usually leave her be). She enjoys the water quite a bit, and does appreciate it more than most probably would when she gets to enjoy it since it is so sparse in her desert home.]

[Nabooru is a sucker for jewelry (if that wasn't obvious). Most of what she wears regularly, like her headpiece, necklace, her hairpiece, earrings, and her arm band, are Gerudo-made and were crafted specially for her. However, she has other bits and baubles that were stolen. Prizes from successful raids or just...nabbed off a particularly stuck up noble in the castle or in Castle Town (though most of the time she'll sell those or give it to someone who looks like they could use the rupees). She likes the look of it on her, likes the extra sparkle and glamor it adds to her outfit. In fact, if her schedule ever allows, she has considered trying to learn how to craft jewelry herself (she doubts she'll ever really have the time, though).]

🦎 + her thoughts on the sheikah
🦎s for Headcanons || Open!
[I will start off by saying that, thanks to the Civil War, there is a lot of bad blood between the Gerudo and the Sheikah, despite them being all but gone by the time Nabooru matures. They were a big reason that Hyrule had the edge they did, and were probably the only reason they were able to ultimately defeat the Gerudo at the end of the war. With that said, Nabooru has probably heard the stories about them, learned that their people nicked the whole "seeing the truth" thing from the Sheikah (which is how they can navigate the last portion of the desert to the temple if they don't have the path memorized anyway before the storms subside with Twinrova's death), but still doesn't know much about them, really.
With that said, that doesn't mean she doesn't have an opinion about them outside of their role in killing and torturing her people, especially when she learns how the crown betrayed them in the end. She thinks they were foolish to serve Hyrule so staunchly, to the point where they would never even suspect that they might turn on them. Religious reasons about destiny and them being chosen to protect Hyrule's legends and the reincarnated goddess isn't a good enough reason for Nabooru. She would never say they got what they deserved, but she will be critical of them seeming to never think that the crown would turn on them, especially when they had to know that they feared the Gerudo so much because of their OWN strength.
As far as Impa goes, Nabooru doesn't have a problem with her, really. Tying into the last point, she doesn't understand how she could have served under the king when it was him that betrayed the Sheikah, even if she does claim she only continued for Zelda, at the request of the queen, etc. (I've seen a lot of different takes on this but, regardless, Nabs ain't gonna get and think it's foolhardy; she loosens this some when Zelda is in charge, but she still quietly hopes Impa won't be as blind [heh] as her people were). But, she holds no ill will toward her...something she can't really say about Impa who didn't seem to trust her on sight.]
