inbox cleaning. @norringtxn said: "Our darling child ripped a fistful of my hair out today, so if you see a bald spot, now you know why it's there."

❛❛     hmm.   ❜❜
ESMERALDA HUMS, peering in closer with mock severity to inspect the SCALP IN QUESTION, deft fingertips parting long brown hair, and tsk-ing now and again as if the patient's prognosis was indeed severe. ( in truth, she can hardly spot any imperfection in him, she rarely can, though she supposes that spot behind his ear is a bit shorter than the rest ) she withdraws with a dire expression: brows drawn, mouth set in a frowning, formed line. once constant, such sentiments are rare on her features now, what with so much joy to keep them occupied.
❛❛     I'm afraid so, Mister Norrington. you haven't much left.   ❜❜
but the serious facade does not last long: after meeting his eye for only a few moments, his wife splits into a delighted grin, ruffling the hair she had so carefully analyzed until it is a decided MESS. then, doting, she presses a kiss JUST THERE, where she suspects Miss Louisa has made her raid upon his head. and another on his cheek for good measure. and another, just to satisfy her own whim, before wrapping her arms around him. ( both Sevilla women are inclined to want his body for their own, it seems. )
❛❛     and what induced the terror this time ?   ❜❜

Ah. A difficult question, with an even more difficult answer. Or perhaps it wasn’t. James was a man of duty, and one known to follow it to his death if need be. Before he had believed that duty was to be mandated by his superiors, but as of late he had come to realise that duty was dictated instead by the truth in one’s heart.
Tumblr media
“That would depend…” A rare twinkle sparkled in his eyes then. “Would there be room under your command?”
Tumblr media
As always, Jack didn't wish to cling too firmly to any one hope. He had seldom managed to keep the loyalty of his men. Those who chose him after a previous betrayal, however, often ended up being the closest he could get.
"There might be. James Norrington, do you have the courage and fortitude to follow orders and stay true in the face of danger and almost certain death? I mean, obviously I know you do. But can you swear it to me?"

for jimothy pls and thank u ღ
Inbox me a ‘ღ’ and I’ll rate you with the following:
(answering this generally for the character but like…each interp’s different, so this how she’d feel about the Jimothy of @norringtxn ‘s blog lol)
Romantic attraction: none | very low | low | medium | high | very high | extreme (insists she would never fall for an “idiot Navy prick” but I’ve seen her do it with others before.)
Sexual attraction: none | very low | low | medium | high | very high | extreme (she likes people who can handle swords and shout commands well)
Aesthetic attraction: none | very low | low | medium | high | very high | extreme (hates the wig but keeps staring when he isn’t in it lmao)
Sensual attraction: none | very low | low | medium | high | very high | extreme (she would tell you every reason she isn’t attracted to him at all to avoid telling you why she keeps thinking about him)
Overall Impressions:
Anne’s got no love for the English and less for their navy, but those who are audacious and ambitious will always hold some part of her respect—more if they have a moral code they stand by*, even if she disagrees with it. (*As long as said code does not seek to impose itself upon others, hence one of her many issues with the English and the navy, lol.)
Unfortunately for Anne, she’s also down bad with leaders who can hold their own in combat and/or go above and beyond for their people, and she’s on a hot streak of relationships with older men. I live for enemies to allies of necessity to however else it ends up…but Jimmy IS in well within her type and she’s mad about it. 10/10 would kiss in a stairwell and panic about it later lol

❝ in any case, if you're haunting me, are you not supposed to be frightening? it would appear that you're not doing a very good job of that. needs more pained groaning, claims that i'm going to hell. graphic depictions of my end. that sort of thing. ❞

Despite his irritated expression and his true feelings hidden behind his eyes, Carina only beams a wide, toothy grin. Any annoyed expression James has given her has only ever been met with unwavering loyalty and charismatic spirit. After all, where else could a not-child-almost-woman find safe sleeping quarters on the sea without being blamed for any misfortune? Where else could she occupy the strange purgatory between girlhood and adulthood with only minimal teasing?
“ ’Cause I am very helpful.” She swings her arms behind her back in a similar fashion to a soldier, perhaps only a tiny bit of mockery to make her point, “I am fast and quick in battle and I can climb the rigging faster than anybody here and I am small enough to pickpocket enough to afford a feast for everybody at any port we choose.” She ticks off each point with her fingers, pacing back and forth in a stiff fashion, “I am not susceptible to rum because it is vile and disgusting and tastes like sick. I am very good at playing the poor little orphan act.” With this, she breaks her soldier persona with her common pleading face when attempting to charm the townsfolk.
Tumblr media
“And!” Carina halts, hopping in place with one last finger pointed to the sky, bright smile breaking through her act at its finale, “I am a pleasure to have aboard.” She interrupts herself with an, “Oh!” continuing, “You would also have to watch me drown and that wouldn’t be pleasant for either of us.”

❝ do give your self pity a rest, Mister Norrington. it doesn't suit you. ❞
HIS WORDS HAVE STUNG and so the future Mrs. Turner returns in like kind, jaw tightened and back much straighter than it had been. in the body of a once old friend she no longer RECOGNIZES the creature there, every word barbed and conscience impenetrable. it is as if with his position he has lost his entire self, rotting away with the fabric of his coat. Elizabeth can feel him slipping through her fingers despite her best efforts : like Atropos scraping up the spare fibers and molding them into the shape of what had once been a strong, unbroken thread.
You are worthy of everything. Everything else. that is what she wants to say, but her pride does not allow her. Would she have chosen to save Jack Sparrow if she'd known then that she was condemning James to die IN HIS PLACE ? He's right, of course. You have let him dash himself against the rocks to find Will, to find Jack, to find YOU. Of course one day the hull would break. she clears her throat, and instead of facing him looks out to sea.
❝ I am not responsible for your decisions in the Mediterranean. deflect blame elsewhere if you wish, but not TO ME. ❞

Well well, talk about barking up the wrong tree, eh? Norrington's always had this thing about being the upstanding citizen determined to put an end to the pirates' scourge, so finding him attempting to speak to Jack of all people about regret and whatnot? Doesn't seem like much of a sound choice, really. Now if it was Elizabeth the man was trying to appeal to, that'd make more sense.
Alas Jack is neither blonde nor so well-mannered so instead of any sort of sound advice he could possibly come up with (unlikely, but have some faith, would you?) he instead resorts to any drowned man's tried and true method to dealing with his woes. Rum.
The bottle makes a swift appearance from a nearby crate on the dock, not his own cargo but he doesn't really care about that in the moment if it means getting James off his back. Besides, he's kind of fun when sloshed, long as no one's stupid enough to give the man a sword.
"Well, have a drink mate." He shoved the bottle in the other man's hand and clapped him on the shoulder. "Nothing a little rum can't fix in this world."
With that he makes a swift retreat (after stealing another bottle for himself out of that very convenient crate) and heads back towards the Pearl and his quarters. Whatever Norrington's busy regretting isn't going to be his problem if he can help it.

OH,  HER DUTIFUL HUSBAND,  errant mind always straying  to thoughts of his beloved navy  and the temptation of his awaiting reports. but any frustrations that might have otherwise arose DIED AWAY at that wry little glance of his, that offered himself up as more than match for the pirate wife he had married. she stifled down the butterflies that arose at the look in his eyes, at the promise of the evening to come, and smoothed out the front of her dress as she rose from the table. all in all a successful dinner party. considering how wrong things might have gone.
❝     I'll ... walk with you to your study, shall I ?   ❞
Tumblr media
if UNCERTAINTY LINGERED in her syllables it was only at the expected role of a wife in such a place, and how much attention was due to the man she had newly married. Esmeralda found herself –– despite her better judgement and early protestations –– wanting to linger in his company, to earn more of those little sly smirks, to listen to the sound of his voice that soothed as smooth as a rolling tide. but far too bold, and too commonplace, to ADMIT she was growing steadily more interested in the man to whom she was wed.
❝     that is, if you should like me to.   ❞
Tumblr media
A compliment delivered, with an elaborately crafted mocking remark in between the words. James caught it, but found no offence rising up to meet it. A devious little look was given in answer instead, letting his wife know that he knew perfectly well what she meant with her praise.
At the mention of her name, Mrs. Roberts slid happily into the dining room to begin picking up empty plates. James suspected she had been listening in, and that the smile on her face betrayed her relief that the newly wed couple had not used their cutlery as impromptu swords to fight their differences.
Tumblr media
“Ah…yes. I have some reports I’d like to glance over before retiring to bed myself.” James stood, his mind too focused on the potential events of the evening to even attempt drifting towards thoughts of work and quills and numbers. “I hope you…I hope you have a pleasant evening.”

@norringtxn continued from here because of the smelly forced beta posting situation (that accidentally sounds kinky):
Norrington’s lips curled into a sneer as he listened, for every word Sparrow spoke was undeniable and unchangeable truth. The child had not chosen to withstand the cruelty of the tide. It had been brought along without a choice, and left to die amidst the timber that had taken its parents lives.
Once again, he let his gaze wander towards the little thing in Sparrow’s arms. A small rounded face, tiny fists that curled and uncurled with what little control the child had over their own fingers and two little eyes that stared up at him.
His heart shivered in its hiding place, and what was left of the man Norrington once was ached to pluck the babe out of Sparrow’s arms to accept into his own.
The captain sighed.
He already bore scales beneath his neckcloth. What were a few more if this little creature got to live?
“Very well. You will be in charge of it. I will accept it as part of the ship for the time being so hunger and thirst do not cause discomfort, but it will be your job to keep it quiet and entertained. The second our travels bring us close to dry land you will drop it off at the closest settlement. And for Calypso’s sake, do not let the rest of the crew learn of this.”
The sudden realisation of childcare hit Jack like a yardarm. Rescuing the babe was one thing, but remaining responsible for it? He was hardly fatherhood material and he had never wanted to be. Surely there was someone on this godforsaken crew who wasn't the most terrible of fathers?
As for the other order.
"Howzat, sir?" he braved asking. "It —" he dared peeking under the swaddling, "she, apparently — won't keep hushed long and the crew will start asking after where I'm at. Ain't there someone else with more experience you'd trust to keep watch on 'er?"

doing bits and bobs on the blog, obviously. rn i'm in potc hell (thank the gang lmao, s/o for dealing with me go to: @mvrtogg, @itismissswann, @norringtxn / @collectorofmuses), and i just realized that the majority of people who follow me may not have read this page (or even known it existed!), so i wanted to give two important bits of context!
1.) anne bonny walked so her archetypes could run.
i literally found out two weeks ago that anne bonny isn't stupid famous. whaaaaaat? but actually, that did shock me. maybe it's because i had two pirates phases and like research, but i've known a little bit about her since i was a kid: specifically, that she was a kick-ass pirate woman. i've learned a lot more since then, and i love to share it; i joined a group that i thought had a pirate phase only to learn that...they hadn't. and had no idea who anne bonny was outside of being a character someone before me had written as well.
it was exactly then that i realized anne bonny isn't a super famous kick-ass pirate woman and i felt like that one part of dogma. someone was trying to explain how my take on anne bonny both was and wasn't in-line with the previous writer's and it took me a while to realize they were asking what show or book i used for canon because they doubted she was the same character, despite sharing the archetypes. so. just so it's out there, here's an incomplete list of archetypes we can apply to the historical figure anne bonny, kick-ass pirate woman:
riches to rags (gave up a privileged life to marry a pirate)
the redhaired irish
girlboss/tits out for piracy (she would famously whip her shirt off in battle so men would know they'd been killed by a woman)
did it for love (left her first husband and became a pirate with her second)
it's a love story (whatever else they were, history tells us jack and anne were in love, even if i don't usually use that on this blog)
three's company, too (anne and read were absolutely an item at the same time as anne and jack)
ambiguously queer (i advocate for a bisexual anne, but the only lady-type lover she took was read, who can be fairly read as transmasc, putting some doubt on the full connotation of her orientation/s)
short fuse (she was known to fight over basically anything)
2.) what in the url?
since anne bonny isn't the kickass pirate bicon of my dreams--we'll get her there, one day!--it's relevant to also share what the fuck my url actually means. because she was a woman a pirate a woman and a pirate alive during the early 18th century, we actually don't have much record of anne speaking for herself. the most popularly known quote we have was spoken directly to jack rackham just before his execution:
if [you] had fought like a man, [you] need not have been hang'd like a dog. -A General History of Pyrates, Daniel Defoe
she said this to him because he and his men were the reason the ship had been caught and they had been taken prisoner and she took that very personally, as well she should! (it turns out that both anne and read were pregnant, anne by jack and read by their husband.) the larger thing is, she wasn't wrong: when the ship was invaded, only three people stood on the deck fighting: read, anne, and an unnamed pirate who presumably died in the struggle. everyone else was hiding below decks. read, in fact, famously fired TWICE down at the hiding men, killing one and injuring another.
the really wild part of all this, though, is the ending of anne's story. we don't know it.
anne's execution was stayed on account of her pregnancy, as was read's. read would die in prison from a fever, and presumably their child did as well; anne, on the other hand, simply...disappeared.
...but what is become of her since, we cannot tell; only this we know, that she was not executed. -A General History of Pyrates, Daniel Defoe (which, if you keep wondering why i'm referencing it, is considered THE source)
officially speaking, we may literally NEVER know what happened to anne. all we know is she NEVERHANGD.*
thank you for your time and attention! ♡

Truce
Pain greeted him upon waking; which immediately soured Jack’s disposition, despite realizing--slowly--that he was at least alive. The details were fuzzy things...he had recalled that he had been on a three day chase with the Commodore’s ship; drawing the man into a narrow channel along the coast and getting both the Pearl and Norrington’s ship stuck there--run around in the low tide.
Jack had not been worried in the least...they were out of range of the naval ship’s weapons by just enough that all shots fell short. If Norrington wanted him, he would have to come and get him. And Jack was daring him. Half out spite and half out of...something else.
He had not however, expected what had come along next. To be fired upon by a THIRD ship coming down the river instead of up, and seeing both The Black Pearl and Norrington’s vessel as easy prey.
Jack moaned, feeling pain from his shoulder all the way down to his fingers; a deep ache that turned into a burning tingle at his hand. He rolled, trying to find some relief from the pain, curling in on himself as he braced the arm at the elbow. He found the skin tender and raw in places, abrasions and large gashes having been torn in both fabric and flesh. But worst of all, he found he had no strength in the appendage, only able to cradle it against his middle with the help of his right arm.
Sparrow looked around then, recognizing himself to be in a brig. And not alone either. To his surprise, the Commodore was there as well, for once on the same side of the bars as him.
