As Naima worked the room, Grayson kept watch between her and Hana. He watched her glance at her phone, look around the room, then head for the door. Bambi is on the move! He was making his way towards Naima when his route was suddenly blocked by a familiar-looking, older woman.
Adelaide: “Don’t you look delicious.”
Grayson had come face-to-face with what appeared to be an old bitty on the prowl and by the way she was looking at him, he had become her prey. What IS it with these courtly ladies?
Grayson: “I’m not edible, but the food over there is.”
Adelaide: “And yet it’s not nearly as appetizing as what I see before me. I hope the show is as good as the view.”
Grayson: “Excuse me?”
What show? A puzzled Grayson stood there for a moment trying to figure out what the crazy lady was talking about. While talking to Maxwell, Naima happened to look over to see Adelaide practically molesting her bodyguard. Poor guy. She decided she would go and recue him from death by cougar. Go go gadget, fake smile.
Naima: “Hello, Adelaide.”
Adelaide: “Naima! I was just telling your guest here how I’m looking forward to seeing him in action.”
She was obviously tipsy and lightly swaying in her red bottoms. Naima looked at her, puzzled.
Naima: “What are you talking about?”
Adelaide: “You know. Of the exotic variety? Who knew those Beaumonts were so wily! Does he do private dances?”
Naima: “Wait a minute... You thought Maxwell got Liam a male stripper? For his birthday?”
Adelaide: “And why not? You never know what side a man’s bread is buttered on these days, darling. Or maybe he was a gift for both of you? They do say that royals have the most... unconventional tastes.”
She said the last part with a wicked smirk. She was clearly trying to get a rise out of Naima, but she wasn’t taking the bait. Not today, Satan.
Naima: “It’s not that kind of party. This is my bodyguard, Grayson, not Magic Mike, and he just alerted me to a possible security thing so, if you’ll excuse us...”
Naima wraps her arm around Grayson’s and moves him away from Adelaide.
Grayson: “Thanks for the rescue. I was sure she was about to unhinge her jaw and swallow me whole.”
Naima: “You got off lucky. No one usually gets away from Madeline’s mom without getting their ass grabbed and her phone number stuffed in their pants.”
Grayson: “THAT’s Madeline’s mom? But she’s...”
Naima: “I know, right? Total opposites.”
Grayson: “Oh, before she pounced on me, I was about to tell you that I saw Hana head out of the ballroom.”
Naima: “Let’s go before we lose her!”

Hugs and Hiatus
This post is going to cover a lot of ground in hopefully as few words as possible.
First, I want to thank @thegreentwin for her apology regarding our talk over Liams with socks. I do wish to address a couple of things from the apology and subsequent comments.
· I am not upset you are writing a story, @thegreentwin, nor do I want you to stop writing it. Writing and the creation of content are beautiful things, and all of us in this fandom bring something to it.
· I am also not offended.
· As a commenter said, no one owns words. I don’t believe I have asked TGT to omit one word of her fic. In fact, I have never once said she copied any of my stories.
· I think where our miscommunication comes from is: I feel a similar idea doesn’t come after reading someone’s work.
From her post:
It was never my intention to copy dcbbw. I have read some of that series but not all of it, and it occurred to me at some stage in my writing that someone else had written something about fun socks at some stage. I thought the whole character was different enough that I dismissed it as a potential issue. I realise now that I shouldn’t have dismissed it.
· As small an element it may be, there is a reason I call him Sock Game Liam. It isn’t some tiny point to drive a plot forward. It is a part of who that particular alliteration of Liam is. After all, isn’t it the details that make PB’s characters ours?
· I do acknowledge however, there are going to be similar stories, plot lines, words and phrasings used, and quite possibly wardrobe/characteristics that our characters will share.
In short, offering a virtual hug and a truce. I’m quite sure the fandom is big enough for two Socked Liams.
With that being said (and hopefully resolved), I am taking a hiatus from Tumblr. No idea for how long, but I will be posting one last fic before I go; not tagging anyone because it isn’t Choices- fandom related. (Issa Squid Game because I am a full-grown, whole ass simp for Gong Yoo)
I will also be popping in from time to time because an unwatched blog is an open invitation.
There are other factors at play that have helped reached the decision to “call out” of the fandom, but the crux of the situation is the fandom is no longer what it once was three years ago: it has become contentious, competitive, and frankly I and so many others have seen more of our words, scenes, plots, and our versions of characters in stories that do not have our names on them over the past year than we can shake a stick at.
So going to take some time to decompress, relax, handle real life, and practice stress management.
Most of you know where to find me if you need me.😉😘

A Beautiful Ending
Prologue
Pairing: Liam x MC
Book: The Royal Romance
A/N and Trigger Warning: I’ve had this one stored away in my mind for a nearly 2 years, the idea itself being based on something I’d watched a long time ago. It will only be a few chapters long. **There will be a character death in this, and it does involve a child. ** I can say though, what you think is going to happen isn’t exactly what happens, not that that makes it any better.
Word count: 1105
--------------------------
Billowing vapors of heat and humidity rose like seas of sweltering fractals across the tarmac. The slosh of softening tar and cement could be heard as a small caravan, led by the Royal Guard in SUVs and motorcycles, drove boldly through the gates that led to the private 757 jetliner owned by the Crown.
The limo came to a complete stop with a squeal of its brakes and dulling engine, just steps away from the plane. Bastien causally departed the front passenger's side, adjusting the brim of his black woolen suit jacket, the bright yellow sun reflecting in the shaded frames of his glasses. Within only a few seconds, beads of warm sweat had already pooled at his temple and slowly crept along his hairline.
A Cordonian summer could be cruel and intense.
Pausing for just a split-second, he winced at the stiffness and throb in his knee as he took his first step -- a constant reminder of what he gave for the crown six years ago at the Costume Ball.
A constant reminder of what was always at stake.
He stepped away with an unremarkable limp to the rear of the limo and placed a firm grip on the door latch; he glanced to his left, then to his right, ensuring his men and women were in their designated positions. Confidence and precision were essential here; everyone knew their part. One wrong move, an error in judgment, or a slight mishap, could make the difference between life and an unthinkable tragedy. Nothing should ever be taken for granted.
For what they are securing inside that vehicle wasn't just royalty -- a young King and Queen of Cordonia -- but a little family, precious cargo, timeless treasures of love and devotion to one another.
A beautiful beginning.
In all of his 25 years of service, Bastien Lykel understood all too well what the King had lost: a childhood marred of its innocence, the untimely death of a beloved mother, the horrific death of an implacable father, and the plans he had prepared for his life as the spare. It was all terribly sad, really, but in the here and now, His Majesty carried on happily with the help of one woman and the two children they lovingly brought into the world. To Bastien, he would be damned if he allowed another deadly incident to take all that away from Liam.
But sometimes, those unforeseen occurrences caught up with a person — destiny and fate bowed to no one.
Nodding to the driver who stood on the opposite side of the limo from him, they simultaneously opened the doors.
Almost instantly, a powerful gust of wind swept through the vehicle, causing Riley's lustrous textured hair to become artfully messy as it hurtled wildly across her radiantly smiling face.
With knees pressed together and her grinning one-year-old son -- whose wispy blonde locks resembled the most yellowish of marigolds -- wrapped in her secure arms, the beaming Queen stepped out into the noisy haze. Her floral print sundress twisted and clashed like a dauntless flag against her thighs, and she had the presence of mind to bunch up the lower part to keep her backside from making its way onto the front pages of newspapers again.
Shifting her son higher on her hip, the Queen whirled around to see if the other half of her heart was behind her.
Across from them, the driver stepped back and lowered his head to the towering figure of the King as he made his way out of the limo. Offering a courteous wave and smile to several dozen royal watchers, all pressing themselves against a chain-length fence several yards away, calling out his name, Liam reached back inside the limo where a tiny hand clamped onto his and scooted her way across the leather seats to join him at his side. A smaller version of her mother, the five-year-old princess shot a curious glance at the boisterous crowd; she could never quite figure out why people were so interested in what her family was doing.
While staff worked diligently on loading luggage onto the plane, the family of four joined Bastien, who would follow closely behind them as they headed toward the rolling steps of the jet.
The enthusiastic crowd roared louder when they got the first glimpses of the monarchs with their small children together. Liam and Riley enjoyed a popularity that seemingly was unparallel to anything the country had ever experienced. None of which would be possible without their generosity and charismatic personalities; the press and the people clung to their comings and goings like magnets.
Liam gently tugged on his daughter's balmy hand while she sluggishly trudged alongside him. He shook his head with an amused grin, taking in her dainty curls, bouncing and bobbing with each change in the wind's direction. There's nothing quite like admiring your very own piece of artwork, whose hearty giggles or cries had the ability to break him into a withering shell of himself.
Placing his other hand on the small of Riley's back as she took the first step onto the stairs, Liam's stoic gaze turned back to acknowledge his citizens one last time with a quick wave before ascending the steps behind his wife. Thoughts of a long, exhausting work week were put behind him, and he looked forward to landing in Greece within the hour. It had been months since the family last got away together and even longer since he'd visited his brother, Leo.
As Liam's foot hit the fourth step, a thunderous commotion of sorts broke out over the blare of the jet's whirling engines. There was no time to turn and see what had caused the crowd to erupt. No time to even process whether their gasps were something nonsensical or cause for concern. It was the gentle hand that had earlier clutched his so tightly, in only the way a daughter who trusted her father's loving protection would, slipping away, that gained his attention.
He couldn't catch her -- a fact that would torment him later. It wouldn't have made much difference, but his long-held beliefs were that a daddy was supposed to be the one to catch his child, not the guard.
But this wasn't a fall or a slip.
Liam's eyes widened, a noticeable expression of worry and panic etched on his face. His Princess laid limply, motionless, outwardly void of life, in Bastien's arms. "El?" he muttered, with a shudder in his voice, before tearing her away from the clutches of his head guard and cleaving her to his breathless chest.

The Final Goodbye - Chapter 4 (Finale)
Book: The Royal Romance, Book 2
Pairing: Liam x Riley
All characters belong to Pixelberry.
Description: In a slight canon divergence from book 2, Riley reaches her breaking point with the engagement tour and decides to restart her life when the court gets to NYC. Can the rest of the group clear her name, and convince her to come back before it’s too late?
Catch Up Here
Rating: PG (I think there are a few swear words in there, very angsty, but otherwise pretty mild)
Word Count: 2,525 (sorry, this is like twice as long as the others, but it’s worth it, I promise!)
A/N: We’ve made it to the end of the story. I appreciate you all so much for indulging me in this. I guess, technically, this is my first completed series (I promise, I’ll get back to Sapere Aude and A Taste of Cordonia soon!), so that’s a pretty exciting milestone for me. I really hope that at the end of this, you consider it worth your time.
I gush way too much over her, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop, because I’m truly blessed that we stumbled upon each other, so shout out @jessiembruno for all of your help with this, and with everything. I may have in person friends I go for walks with, but you’re still at the top of my list.

Maxwell, Drake, and Hana sat in silence on the couch in Riley’s hotel room, reflecting on the day’s events. Bertrand had told Maxwell that he found her, but nobody else had seen or heard from her since. They weren’t sure if she had seen Tariq’s statement, and were even less sure it would matter.
Hana broke the silence. “I can’t believe we did it.”
“I can’t believe Riley isn’t here. We should all be victory dancing right now.” Maxwell replied.
Drake patted Maxwell on the back. “She’ll be back, she has to be. There’s no way she went through all of this just to give up in the home stretch.”
There was a gentle knock at the door, all three of them jumped up in the hopes that it was Riley. Maxwell ran to answer it, revealing Liam on the other side. “Oh, Liam. Hey.” Maxwell stepped back, allowing Liam to enter.
Unable to contain his grin, Liam entered the room and approached the group. “I had a feeling you all would come here. I came to see you as soon as I could.” He looked around, noticing that Riley wasn’t with them he turned back to Maxwell and noticed his nervous expression. “Where is the woman of the hour? I wanted to personally offer my congratulations.” His face fell as he noticed his friends fidgeting, unable to make eye contact with him. Even without his years of training, he was easily able to read the tone of the room. He knew something was wrong.
“Liam...why don’t you sit down for a minute.” Drake placed a hand on his shoulder and attempted to guide him toward the couch. Liam shrugged him off.
“No thank you Drake, I came to see Riley. If she’s not here, just tell me where she is and I will go to her.”
“We ah...we don’t know.” Drake awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, unable to meet Liam’s gaze. “This morning, after you left, Maxwell and I came to check on her and she wasn’t here. It looks like she never came back to the hotel last night.”
Liam felt like the wind had been knocked out of him. He took a moment to compose himself, looking around the room at the sad faces of his friends. “She...she’s gone?” His voice barely above a whisper as he took a seat, afraid his legs were going to give out. “But you found Tariq, it’s over. Her name has been cleared. We finally have our chance to…” He dropped his head, cradling it in his hands. Hana sat beside him and wrapped a comforting arm around his shoulders. Drake and Maxwell looked at each other. Nobody knew what the next move was.
Liam sat in silence, his mind reeling with countless thoughts. All of the things he should have said, should have done. From the coronation, where he should have called her name, despite everything; to the previous night when he should have run after her the second she stepped off that stage. Maybe if he had gotten to her, he could have convinced her to stay just a little longer. He was so focused on retracing his mistakes over the last several weeks, that he did not hear the sound of a throat clearing at the door. It did get the attention of everyone else in the room, however. Their heads all snapped over to see Riley leaning against the doorframe, an awkward smile spread across her face. “Hey guys, what did I miss?”
The sound of her voice broke him from his thoughts. He looked up, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. Watching as she addressed the room, he took note that she was not meeting his eyes. He was preparing himself for the heartbreak that was about to come. She was only here to get her things, he was sure of it.
“Riley! You came back!” Maxwell ran to her full speed, pulling her into a hug so aggressive that her feet lifted off the ground. Once she was standing again, he pulled away and took her hand, rushing her toward the group. “What happened? We were afraid you were gone forever.”
There was an apprehension in Riley’s face that they hadn’t seen since the early days of the social season as her eyes scanned the room. She was trying to collect her thoughts and explain herself without letting it all explode out of her at once. As her eyes traveled in Liam’s direction, she moved her attention to the floor. She was sure he was upset with her, and if she saw any kind of sadness or disappointment in his face, she knew she would completely lose it. She focused her attention back on Maxwell, “You thought I was gone, and you still went through all of that trouble to go get Tariq and get him to make a statement?”
“Of course we did. You’re our friend, and we promised to help you.” Maxwell replied.
Riley took a shaky breath, trying to keep a handle on all of the emotions rushing through her at that moment. “I gave up on myself, and you guys kept fighting. I don’t think I will ever be able to thank you for that.”
She approached her friends individually, hugging them and speaking softly to each. Liam’s heart raced as he watched her move closer and closer to him, afraid for what that moment would bring. As Riley and Hana separated, Liam stood from his spot on the couch, taking a deep breath, preparing himself for what was about to come. For the first time since she had arrived, Riley and Liam locked eyes.
“Hi.” It was barely audible, but it was all Riley was able to choke out at that moment.
“Hello Riley.”
Tension filled the room as Liam and Riley stared into each other's eyes, each afraid to start the conversation. Drake, Maxwell, and Hana looked at eachother. “Alright, we’re going to take off. Brooks, good to have you back. We’ll see you in the morning.”
Drake and Hana walked toward the door, while Maxwell approached Riley. “Celebratory field trip to Coney Island tomorrow, Little Blossom. It’s going to be great!”
“MAXWELL!” He jumped at the sound of Drake’s voice, and rushed out of the room. Shutting the door behind him.
Liam decided to make the first move, he motioned toward the couch, “Would you like to sit?” Riley nodded and sat on the couch, turning her body so she was facing Liam, he did the same. “So...you left.” Riley nodded again, still struggling to speak. Liam needed to get the question out there, if this was going to be it, he needed to know now. “Do you...does that mean...have you changed your mind? About us?”
Riley’s eyes went wide, she wasn’t sure what to expect when they spoke, but she was not prepared to hear Liam question her love for him. “Liam, no! This wasn’t about us, about you even. It was about me.”
He reached for her hands as he took a brief sigh of relief. “Then talk to me Riley, what happened? Why did you leave?”
“It was just becoming too much, we were at that UN thing last night, another night where I had to watch her on your arm. She had sent me earlier in the day to pick up her wedding ring. I guess that was kind of like a reality check for me, that the wedding was coming. Time was running out. You’re supposed to be getting married in less than a week. Finding Tariq was starting to feel impossible. I was going to have to go back to Cordonia and watch you marry her. I know I told you that I would want to be in your life regardless, but as we got closer to a reality where I was going to have to live as your secret, I realized that I couldn’t do it. I can’t live my life like that, in a country where I have been ostracized, just to have little glimpses of a life with you. I love you more than anything, but I couldn’t live the rest of my life like that. I figured, since we’re already in New York, it would be easier to just break away now and try to restart.”
“Why didn’t you talk to me? Tell me you were feeling this way, we could have talked through it together. You just disappeared.” He brought a hand to her cheek, brushing away the tears that had fallen as she was speaking.
“I couldn’t tell you, I wouldn’t have been able to follow through with it if I did. You would have looked at me with those eyes, and said all those beautiful words that make me all mushy inside and I would have agreed to anything you said.”
The tears Liam had been trying to hold back slowly began to break free with her confession. He never wanted her to feel forced into anything, especially not by him. This whole thing had been his fault. She didn’t feel like she could be open with him, or she felt like when she was, he would railroad her into choosing his wants and needs above her own. That was never the life he wanted for either of them. “Riley, I am so sorry. The last thing I ever want is for you to feel like you can’t talk to me. I know that it has been...difficult for us to find moments to truly connect, but I had hoped that in those moments, we were being the best versions of ourselves. I had no idea I was so far off.”
“Liam, remember during the social season, all of the times where we would sneak away, or you’d spend an extra couple of minutes with me? You would always tell me how you were being unfair to the other suitors, and you were breaking the rules.” He nodded, a small smile playing across his face at the memories of their time together. “Your feelings for me were making you do things that you never would have done before. That’s what this engagement tour has been for me. I made a promise to myself a long time ago that I would never be ‘the other woman’, I would never come in between someone else’s relationship…”
“But you were never…”
She put a hand up to stop him from finishing his sentence. “...I was never the other woman, because your heart belongs to me. I know, that was your way of rationalizing it, and I love you so much that I started seeing it that way too. I would make excuses, that it was only temporary until we found Tariq, that Madeline had told you it would be ok. And I know she did, but I shouldn't have been ok with it. I compromised who I was, who I have been my whole life, because of my feelings for you. That’s not ok.” She took a deep breath before continuing. “Liam, I want to be with you, more than anything, but not if you’re married to someone else. I deserve to be the only woman in your life, and on your arm, for show or otherwise. If you can’t give me that, I need to walk away.”
“Riley, my feelings for you have never changed, nor have my intentions. Now that the scandal is behind you, we can look forward to a future together, just the two of us. There are a few arrangements that need to be made, some conversations that I will need to have, but I need you to understand that everything is going to change from here. Our moment is right around the corner, if you can just stick with me a little longer.”
There was a rawness and vulnerability in his eyes that caused Riley to completely break down. As she began sobbing, Liam pulled her to her chest, his own tears falling freely. They sat there for several moments, purging the emotions they had been working so hard to hold back.
When they pulled away, Liam held Riley’s face in his hands staring deeply, desperately into her eyes. “Please Riley, just bear with me until the court leaves New York. If you are not satisfied with where things stand at that time, I will completely understand and support your decision to stay here.”
Riley blinked away the last of her tears as she considered Liam’s proposition. She slowly nodded her head, which was still being cradled in Liam’s hands. “Ok.”
He could barely hear the words escape her lips, but it was all he needed. Liam kissed the tear stains on each of her cheeks before placing a tender, lingering kiss on her lips. “I love you Riley, I love you so much. I promise, we’re going to get our forever.”
Riley wrapped her arms around Liam’s neck and pulled him into a tight embrace. He brought his arms around her, gently rubbing her back. “I love you too, Liam.” They sat in each other's arms, each comforting the other without saying a word.
“I should head to my room and try to get some sleep.” Liam broke the silence, standing and extending his hand to Riley. “Walk me to the door?”
She nodded, taking his hand and standing, leading him to the door. “You could stay here if you wanted.” She looked at him coyly.
“Riley my love, there is nothing I want more right now, but I can’t do that to you.” He brought her hand to his lips. “You’re right, you deserve to be the only woman in my life, and I am still technically engaged to Madeleine. I heard everything you said, and if anything more we’re to happen tonight, it wouldn’t be fair to you. To either of us. Just know that you will be the only thing on my mind until we are together again.” He leaned down, kissing her deeply, as he wrapped his free hand around her waist.
“Will you at least come with us to Coney Island tomorrow?” She asked hopefully.
“Only if you promise to ride with me on the Ferris wheel.”
She smiled, and Liam felt his heart skip a beat at the sight. It was at that moment that he knew they were going to be ok. “I think that can be arranged.”
He pulled her close for one last lingering hug. “Then I will be counting down the seconds.” He pulled away, kissing her on the cheek. “Goodnight, Riley.”
“Goodnight Liam.”
They shared a final smile before Liam exited the room, shutting the door behind him. Riley changed into her pajamas and got into bed. That night, she slept better than she had during the entire tour. She knew there was still a lot that needed to be figured out, and that it would likely be an uphill battle, but she was one step closer to walking up that hill hand in hand with Liam, and that’s all she had ever wanted in the first place.

Surviving Humiliation...
Have you ever wanted to just dig a hole and bury yourself in it?
Then somebody calls you out? Yeah, that’s her the ... girl left naked in the Zeta Psi Frat House... Yep, ‘Dirty Dalton’s’ latest victim...
You can’t disappear fast enough...
It’s all over campus, you haven’t heard?

-----------Memory Lane------------------
Dahlia had learned her lesson about 'opening the package before reading the instructions' as her grandma used to quote to her before she passed. She was having a lot of memories flood back to her through the tears she couldn't seem to end.
They would always talk about the 'inappropriate' feelings she began to have at such an early age. Grandma Addie always told her that everyone matured at different paces, and not to be ashamed of the feelings that embarrassed her... feelings It that made her feel like she had to keep to herself. It was like having the perfect best friend. She could always be herself with Grandma Addie, never having to worry about being chastised for just 'being human'.
The best advice that she had received from her, was to never cower away from the most difficult things to face. Doing so would only lead to standing still... With Dahlia's spirit of curiosity and adventure, there was no way she could 'stand still'.
Her mother used to always scold her over sitting with her legs open, and over Dahlia's reply, "What? It has to breathe!" She would always withdraw from the conversation as soon as the lecture over being 'lady-like' would begin... she'd heard it way too many times, and could repeat it verbatim...
But she was gone now... Grandma Addie had passed peacefully due to old age. She definitely couldn't go to her mother or father to talk... She was their brilliant child who would never be out sleeping around to discover herself, or focus on anything other than her studies. They had failed Dahlia in that department... always shying away from discussion anything relating to sexuality. Well, there was the one awkward conversation about birth control... Which they definitely expressed was only for precaution due to being in the company of older college goers.
She couldn't let the hurtful acts of others force her into hiding, and no matter how difficult. She couldn't hide behind false excuses of contagious sickness any longer, so she emailed her teachers to inform them of her clearance to resume attending classes.
----------------- Later after morning classes --------------------------
It had been days after Dahlia had run out of the Zeta Psi Frat House, and she was sitting in her new favorite spot attempting to study for an upcoming exam. In the past, she had tried everything from all-nighters in the Study Hall with classmates, to private study in her dorm, to outdoor study sessions... just her, her studio Beats headphones, books and notes. So far, the lake seemed to be the place she could focus most, although her mind just couldn't stray her most humiliating moment since starting Princeton.
Man, did he just ditch us for some random girl?
Jay Christopher Hunt , aka J.C., was passing by with a group of his friends when he caught sight of Dahlia. After saying he'd catch up to them later, he hesitantly approached the shaded bench that she was perched on... certain that she wouldn't want to talk to anyone after the way she had been treated. He was very empathetic to the whole 'Sam's discarded playthings' club, as the number was beyond count... Hell, if he had to guess, he would say over half of the women on campus.
He guessed, by her silent lip movements, that she must have been reciting from her notes that she would periodically look down at... the notebook and notes spread across her thighs in the folded sitting position she was in. He watched the gentle breeze tussle her hair, blocking her view, and her constantly toss it out of the way again. A gentle smirk ran across his cheek as he admired her determined look, finding it very attractive, all the while wishing he had approached her before now. She'd just seemed too innocent... but after hearing her sultry moans... he was sure that the age difference would only matter in his mind... Which now, seemed not to matter at all.
Dahlia groaned in frustration, throwing her head back, her headphones sliding off and her quickly trying to catch them, knocking her notes and backpack from the bench as her legs flailed. J.C. rushed to catch her before she fell backwards off of the bench. Swiftly helping her up, he quickly moved to grab her notes before the wind could blow them too far.
She moved to lift the backpack, as it had her private journal, IDs, and dorm key inside... but before she could grasp the handle, J.C. had already scooped it up, handing it to her. With a puzzled look on her face, she quickly remembered her manners. "Thank you... I would have been fucked if those had blown away." His eyebrow arched at the word, her love sounds coming back to memory.
He cleared his throat, but really was attempting to clear the thought from his mind. But the clear image of her beautiful form just would not escape his mind. "Dahlia, right? We didn't get to meet, but I saw you with Sam at the Zeta Psi party. I was headed your way, but then the two of you disappeared...
Anyway, I'm Jay... Jay Christopher Hunt, but my friends call me J.C. So what will you be calling me? Oh, and nice to finally meet you..." He extends his hand, and hesitantly she shakes it..., "Dahlia... and since you pretty much prevented my failing my next exam, you can call me Lia... Oh, and I guess I will be calling you Jay, because I like to be different... how does that sit with you, Jay?"
"I can handle that... if you allow me to sit," he says in the most intriguing tone. Moving her things, and straightening herself on the bench, she replies, "By all means, please do." This was proving to be better than she'd expected... She was approached by a very attractive young man that smelled of Baryshnikov aftershave. The scent familiar because it was popular among the elite men of society... which is to say, her father wore it.
She took in his muscular tone as he moved to sit next to her, choosing the space closest, then her eyes quickly darted at his hands and feet. Her brow twitched with curiosity, she was already imagining his size in anticipation... that is, until the next words fell from his succulent lips.
"Look, I just wanted to apologize for that morning after... you know?" Dahlia is immediately taken aback, responding, "Huh? What do you mean... morning after?"
"Well, the guys and I were curious about who was making those sounds every guy wants to hear from their lady. Someone mentioned... well, that Sam Dalton had a girl in there... Bets were placed on who... none of us expected... well, YOU.."
"WOW! This is getting more awkward by the word..." She starts to pack up her laptop and notes, as Jay pleads for her to allow him to correct the way his words came out... "We all thought it was a particular Alpha SoHo that likes... you know, multi play..." As she moves faster, her face twists in total disgust, causing her to knock her things off the bench as she looks at him. He continues, "We stand in the doorway... she picks her next victim... that type of thing ???"
She shoots him an utterly disgusted look with her brows and lips clenched angrily; silently wanting to slap him. "That's the type of guy that you are... and you approached me?," she snapped, her voice escalating quickly. She wanted to scream out... even use the Emergency Blue Light phone. The incident had already caused her to take self defense through the campus' free R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) training as a refresher.
Sensing her distress, he apologizes for having approached her, but tells her that she was never in any danger of them, and was still welcome to "utilize" their Frat House in the future without interruption... it wold be the least they'd attempt to do at making amends for their behavior.
She had now inherited her own team of 'Big Brothers' to make sure nothing ever happened to her while she attended parties or just classes in general. It had been a situation that proved traumatic for her, and could've gotten their fraternity in serious trouble.

Littered souls
Book: The Royal Romance AU
Pairing: Liam x Riley
Disclaimer: All characters belong to pixelberry.
Rating: Mature
Prompt: Features @flashfictionfridayofficial
A/N 1: This is a one shot that takes place at the end of book 1. We know that Riley is staying with the Beaumonts and is in immense stress due to the claims made against her, questioning her character. Liam is desperately scouring to find out the culprit.
A/N 2: I am writing a fic after a break of almost 4 months. So please ignore the errors. Thank you to all those who stayed with me as I struggled in these days and thank for pushing me to be a better person.
I wait patiently on my burner phone as I hear the ringtone on the other side.
“Hello.” Her scared voice breaks my heart. What was I thinking? Building castles in thin air and dragging her along into my life, I messed up her innocence, her happiness.
“Hello?” Her feeble voice came again.
I clear my throat. “Hey, it’s me. How are you?”
“…Okay.” A delayed reply came back.
“I am sorry, my love, I have failed you.”
“It’s not your fault. I love you and I can see that you are trying but somehow it is not helping. We are facing a dead end everytime we feel we are closer to finding Ta…. Him” she avoids taking names. Another training she has been put through to be discreet when communicating. I wince at the thought of the pain I am causing her.
She continues, “It feels like someone has woven this web so strong and vast that there is no end to it. I am worried! What if we never find out?”
“We will.” “I will.” There was silence. I cant blame her. What am I expecting? I am giving empty promises. It’s a blessing that she has agreed to stay back and accepted my request. “You are there?
“Hmm?”
“I love you!”
“Hmm.” Just a small assertion.
“Sleep well, dear.”
“Good night.”
“Good night my love!” I keep the phone aside.
I lie down with a heavy heart. I want to be buried in some peaceful place away from this muck. I try to cover my eyes with my left hand but the glint of the ring on my finger disturbs me. The ring I wished was from Riley. I roughly pull it out and throw it on the sidestand. It falls down somewhere on the floor with a clunk.
I get up with a frustrated sigh and crouch down on the floor searching for the ring. I can’t misplace it even if I hate wearing it. It had slipped under the bed. I grab it and bang it on the side table.
I turn to my bed but stumble back with a shriek. There is a silhouette towering next to my bed.
“Drake?”
He moves ahead and as the dim light from the window falls on his face, I gasp.
“King Fabian?”
“A very good evening to you, son.”
I am confused but as if someone has clicked the button inside me, my manners speak up. I bow down with respect. “Your highness.”
“You are the king now, Liam. I am just a story from the past.”
Suddenly a sharp female voice booms behind me. “A story that everyone is proud of.”
I spin around to be greeted by another shadow.
“Olivia?”
She steps ahead in light.
“No, it’s Kenna. But you may listen to what Olivia has to say. That girl has got some nerve!”
“Sorry? I didn’t get you.” I am looking at her dumbfounded as she circles around my bed to join king Fabian.
They both look at each other and then turn to me. “Think son, think!” King Fabian speaks up. “You are going to be a great ruler unlike your father. But as his successor you have a whole lot of entanglements to clear up.”
Queen Kenna cuts in, “One of them is Tariq. Do you think a crime like that can go unseen in front of the monarch? Put yourself in his shoes and search for the man you need.”
King Fabian point out. “Think of whom your father trusts completely. Who is the one to know all his secrets and dirty deeds.”
“Who can that be?” I questioned.
King Fabian says in a harsher tone. “For the love of Cordonia, for the love of your life. Wake up Liam! Step up before its too late.”
Queen Kenna joins him as both of them start walking towards me. “ Act now. Go. Do it now. Stop your old man. For Cordonia. For love. In the name of the loyal Rys blood.”
Their sound starts echoing and they push me into a corner. I am scared, my eyes shut and I shrink down until I can’t anymore.
I throw out my arms to push them away. And my eyes burst open to a dark silent room. I realise I am propped up in my bed, drenched in sweat and my heart is racing.
‘Who is his secret keeper?’ I whisper as it becomes clear to me. I quickly put on my robe and rush to Leo’s chamber.
I finally see some hope. Hope to get back what was taken away from me, from Riley. We will be together again. I will be able to raise myself and Riley above the shambles of these littered souls.
The series of events that follow surprise everyone. I interrogate Bastein with the help of Olivia and Leo. Tariq is nabbed and the truth revealed. My father finally accepts his role in the whole chaos. I call off my engagement with Madeleine and happily marry Riley.
On the official round with my queen besides me, I walk through the family gallery. We come across the lifesize potraits of my ancestors Queen Kenna and King Fabian. Their infectious smiles shines upon us. I smile back with pride.
Eventually I did restore peace!

“Scotland? I thought you were from some island country?”
“Cordonia. And I am. But I need to show you something in Scotland. Something very important to me. To both of us.”
“What is it?”
“I can’t really explain, you have to see for yourself hence…” Liam spread his arms above his head, indicating their surroundings high above the clouds.
“I see.” Riley’s thoughts were firing in her mind like a meteor shower in the sky.
One second she’s working in the bar, the next she’s jet setting halfway around the globe with absolutely no idea what was about to happen, how her life as she knew it would be changed forever.
——
Fifteen hours later and an extremely awkward flight Riley stood at the stone steps of Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. The rain drizzled down hitting the umbrella Liam held over her head in sputters. “What is the place?” Riley stood in awe and something else, apprehension, fear, longing? She couldn’t pin a single emotion on it.
“One of the great British structures….” Liam paused, Riley interrupted, “No, not that.. I feel… like I’ve been here before.” Riley’s voice dropped into a whisper.
Liam slid his hand into hers. In that moment he felt drawn to her more than he ever had before as their skin touched, her small smooth hand felt like it belonged in his.
He led her rather reluctantly inside the imposing structure and directly to the gallery room. Her eyes were wide taking in all the strange sights of the castle. She had seen castles before in picture books and documentaries but never in person. Liam motioned for Bastien to wait outside as he guided her into the room with large canvas paintings of former and present British monarchs.
And there she was. “Liam, is this a joke?” Riley stared at the 10 foot tall painting of…. Herself. “It’s not, Miss Brooks.” He murmured. He noticed that chill he felt any other time he stood in the presence of Iseabel was no longer there. “Why the fuck is there a giant painting of me here?”
Her sense of dread of the unknown rose in her. Anger was coursing through her veins. “Why would you bring me here?” She felt the sting of tears well up in her eyes. “What kind of game are you playing? Is this some stalker situation?” Riley roared at Liam.
He didn’t say a word. He forcefully grabbed her and placed it on the frame of the painting.
“Feel that?” He shouted. “Feel what? I feel nothing.” She tried to pull her hand from the painting but Liam had his hand on top of hers keeping her hand still. He moved it to the actual painting.
The hair on Riley’s arms stood, the electricity flowed through her veins. Suddenly it all went black.
Liam let go of Riley and took a few steps back. Both of her hands were now on the painting and she was still. He heard the breath leave her body.
“Liam.” A small unrecognizable voice emerged from Riley. She slowly turned to face him. The iris of her emerald eyes had disappeared leaving only glowing white orbs where her eyes should have been.
“Save us. And we shall save them all. The true Monarchs shall rise and unite the great country in battle.”
The stone walls seem to spring to life around Liam vibrating and breathing. Riley rose from her feet above him. “Take your true place my King. Sire the heir that will rule over the kingdoms.” Bastien after hearing the commotion outside, now stood by Liam. Both of them stood in amazement and fear.
“How?” He screamed. Tears streamed down his face. Riley collapsed to the floor. Her body shook and convulsed. Iseabel was gone.
“Riley, Riley.” Liam knelt beside her wiping his tear stained face. He scooped her in his arms and he ran as fast as his legs would allow.
Riley woke on the jet. She woke as if she had been in a coma. Her eyes struggled to adjust to the cabin lights, her limbs felt heavy and weak.
“Liam.” She choked out. Her throat felt as dry as the Saharan desert.
“I’m here.” Liam sat beside her avoiding any physical contact with her.
“I remember.” She whispered as he handed her a liquid to quench her thirst.
“What do you remember?”
“Everything. I saw what happened to her. To us.” He listened as she paused to sip from her straw as she sat up slowly. “I don’t know how or why… but I saw us. You and me. Different of course, not how we are now but in the past. I found you.”
“Found me?”
“I remember dying. Over and over. The pain, the fear, all of it.” Riley’s words shook. “Blackness and then there wasn’t. I saw us again and again fighting.”
“I remember you Liam. I remember… the feeling.”
Riley stood from the small bed on the jet. Riley’s mind was no longer racing with confusion, she knew in that moment what she had to do.
“I need to..” she moved closer to Liam. His fear had him immediately take a step back. She reached for his hand. Her touch calmed him. She pulled him closer to her and cupped both of his cheeks in her hands and pulled him towards her. The feel of him beneath her palms, the prickle of his unshaven chin, the softness of exposed skin drew her to him.
She lightly brushed her lips to his. Their eyes fluttered closed as he deepened the kiss. His arms enveloped her waist as their tongues met for the first time in a heated full body kiss.
As the kiss slowed, Liam fought to catch his breath. Her kiss consumed him, his soul his very presence. He dropped to one knee and bowed his head.
“I pledge my life, my allegiance, my heart and my body to you my Queen.”
