Dynamite gumshoe gal.... I will NOT be talking about homestuck 2 or any of that mess. She loves baking and held so much rage inside of her and I understand. Was hated by large swathes of the fandom for "standing in the way of Dirk/Jake" because she had a crush on Jake. 

She had the hots for Jake, but couldn't accurately convey her feelings, and he ended up with another male character (Dirk). Later on she was brainwashed and evil and had him captured and it was heavily implied some awful things would be done but a fair amount of people who ship Dirk and Jake took that as free reign to villainize her entirely for getting in between them when she never really did.

So victimized by the yaoi fangirls people claim Random Fascism in the sequel was in-character

Peggy Carter

She’s a victim of Stucky mainly bc of the way marvel used her to give Steve an ooc ‘happy ending, but I know I’ve seen some posts calling her toxic or something it was 2019 so In CAT:FA, she’s introduced as a confident British agent. She has some chemistry w Steve Rogers (although more fans (on tumblr at least) preferred Steve and Bucky). She wasn’t just *woman who is strong*, but also had some emotional depth, with an actual range of emotion outside of angry and sad. She had a spin-off show, and she just continued to fight Russians and misogynists, even having chemistry in an almost wlw relationship and an eventual marriage to a famous shield agent. She went through character development and just was an awesome character. Then you know what endgame does? It has Steve Rogers travel back in time and take all of that development away. Most fans were mad at Marvel, and a lot were mad at Steve, but some fans threw Peggy completely under the bus, saying that they traded the (fanon?) queer ship/(canon) friendship for a bland love interest, which, um, she was so much more then that? I remember people really disliking Peggy, which isn’t fair to her character when she is/was so much more then that.

Peggy is vilified by people who ship Steve with his war comrade Bucky Barnes. I’ve even seen people claiming baselessly that she was secretly HYDRA the whole time. 

She gets in the way of stucky which OBVIOUSLY gives people, most of them women themselves, the right to be ridiculously misogynistic. Dismissing her character arc, traits, presence in the movies and her part in Steve Roger's life, saying she is insignificant on the ground of very subjective readings is one thing, but outright calling her 'just some old coochie', among other colourful, wonderful things, is another. They also keep reaching to villainize her (saying she's a literal nazi which she's not) and cancel her so their ship is somehow made more valid for it, erasing the competition as it were.

Ok this has a story. So in 2017 I started reading Homestuck and found this artist that had a lot of cool drawings and comics!! (I don't remember their name but they moved out of that fandom a while ago) but they mainly used tumblr to post all their art. They also made fanart of a lot of the shows I liked at the time like Voltron and Steven Universe, so I eventually made an account to keep track of everything, ended up following a bunch of other people and never left this hellsite (affectionate <3)

It's a self portrait and the best one I ever made or ever will.

It's a collage I made some years ago and I still really like it!! Speacially the colors <3

What are your ocs' backstories?

Im glad you’re curious of their backstories!

To cut out quickly, Kyuuta is a mute cryptid insert, like, I use him to interact with whatever fandom im in the moment. I kinda let him have a power of go through time and space (like the MSPA reader) So he can just, go whenever he (and I) Would like. Alba I gave more of a complex thought! Mainly bcs she was/is a homestuck oc! Like, I kinda use her too as in going through others universes and all but she has more of a original place in the homestuck universe. (Tho this story have not been thought through enough I still like it.)

Her name is Alba Suzuki, shes one of the five adopted kids of three people, Mike, Lúcio and Dr Faustus.  Shes the eldest of the kids and take cares of them just as they also take care of her!  

Mike is The younger dad/father figure/brother and the 24/7 dad taking care of like five kids, he’s kinda of a software developer and a tech guy in general? He’s trying to learn about robotics but its kinda hard being now dad.

Lúcio is a bussiness man tm. He work at sales and stuff But hes also a good dad, can be harsh but nothing radical, kids are great and he does what he can to help Mike around.

Dr Faustus is a scientist and its kinda always busy with assignments and some experiments. (Also every single one of the kids call him Dr Faustus dklasjdkla)

The three of them are friends and live together! Why they adopted a bunch of children? Lúcio wanted to be a dad and Mike wanted to help a bunch of kids. Hes kind of a natural nurturing guy so hes good. Both of them have help too of their s/o. Dr Faustus never agreed to any of this but his heart grew with the kids. Not thats hes constanly there to help or anything but still

Alba was not born blind, she got and infection when young. She can recognize light, but cant see more than that. (she can tell when one place is lighter or darker than the other basically) But she knows how to echolocate by clicking her tongue. Shes kinda rebel mad bcs after this her parents kinda grew overprotective.

Mike and Dr Fautus helped her with a more indenpendence touch that she craved hard by building some stuff to help with her disabilities. Her orange headphone actually is made to filter things for her to echolocate and hear better. 

Mike also created a sofware based on his Grandma to help her around.

 Your Useful Nagging Assistant or YUNA Is a high tech A.I. that takes care of Alba basically, she can grow out of her programation  but the core of taking care of Alba with the personality of her nana is intact.  YUNA usually talks/helps Alba around with anything she can, she hacks cameras to look around for Alba if needed and all.

Alba is careful usually but doesnt stop at the oportunity to mess around and get to things herself, she wants to have fun, she will!

just speaking in terms of the comic itself it honestly didnt do much for me by just reading it . like yeah vriska helped me come to terms with being a lesbian but highkey that was more thanks to the fandom for being so vehemently for or against it (which resulted in me having to align myself with a VERY passionate group of people either way. god im glad i stanned vriska nd got to hear the right voices). the same thing goes for lgbthsa too, that group was only made in response to shitty fans, not the comic. 

but yknow like. embracing my sexuality and finding a wonderful longterm friend group are HUGE deals for me and regardless of whether or not i like it the homestuck fandom (and thus homestuck itself) WAS a factor in building that.

thinking about it now thats probably why the epilogue felt so fucking maliciously bad; it told a "story" of how this closely knit friend group fell to shit so quickly and how love/sexuality is at best meaningless and at worst destructive. idk about you shelby but that was the worst betrayal ive ever experienced in my life.

id rather not get into the whole blame game of whether or not repeatedly putting my faith in homestuck was a stupid idea bc it usually just makes me depressed. the critical part of me says i shouldve seen it coming, considering all the bullshit that stemmed from troll call/friendsim (mainly talking about lanque but also marvus and elwurd lole), whatpumpkins abysmal communication, and to an extent even act 1 of hiveswap misleading us with xefros and dammeks relationship. the part of me that happens to enjoy enjoying things says that i should just give it a chance and just let the questionable parts fly. basically i have two wolves inside me and im a poor gay mentally ill minor that they keep bullying.

like . im not gonna get on my moral high horse nd say shit like "oh homestuck is so bad bc its horribly racist/ableist and vaguely lgbtphobic if you squint" bc lets be real half the shit im into is NOT any better  . that being said the bad parts of it are just so fucking exhausting and it just seems like theyre always getting more and more concentrated with shittiness and its fucking ALWAYS intentional for the sake of "irony" or "tragedy" or whatever excuse the writers wanna pull out of their ass for being sadistic.

as a 15 year old who is into homestuck rn, your post was interesting! every once in a while i do feel like i missed a reference, but for the most part i feel like i'm getting the experience. i am insanely curious though: what could have possibly been going on in the fandom that inspired the trickster arc?

first of all im glad u liked my post!! i honestly just got really into my thoughts and i had to share it…. im a fake deep hoe LMAO

now to ur question! its a VERY gud one… but unfortunately the answer is kind of troubling. essentially, the short answer is “kids who were pro-social justice.”

to expand on that, u may need some background. homestuck during this time (2013) had a notoriously garbidge fandom, which was well known for being full of infighting. homestuck drew a lot of different fans from a lot of different backgrounds, and it caught on really well with kids on tumblr in the age range of 12-18.

during that time, social justice was getting really popular online, so i can safely say that most of the kids that were homestuck fans were also in support of sj. those who werent were usually intensely anti-sj, and rejected any notions of it, especially where homestuck was concerned. that might seem unrelated, but it actually plays a big part in a lot of problems that came about later on.

one of homestucks biggest positive points was the kids being aracial. hussie made it explicit in tweets and such that the kids were intended to be without race, so readers could fill in whatever they wanted. fan artists really liked that bc it meant they could draw the kids however they chose, and it would technically be canonically accurate. thats a very difficult thing for a webcomic of all things to do, so it was exciting to have the ability to make the kids super diverse, in any sense of the word! 

unfortunately, the problem with this is that a lot of those fan artists were still making all the kids white. it didnt help that, in early pages, there were references to the characters being white (specifically bro, though if memory serves, john is also referred to as white), and much of the official merch also depicted them as white, like as the tarot cards that were released a few years back. even though hussie claimed to be dedicated to the aracial concept, there was a lot of pretty damning evidence that suggested he was really just depicting them as white.

pro-sj fans hated this, because even though the kids were TECHNICALLY aracial by the comics standards, it was clear that a bias was there. anti-sj fans defended the comic with their life against that criticism, saying it was the authors choice, and all sorts of similar things. that problem wasnt made any better by the introduction of kankri, a clear parody of Those Awful SJWs and a character which made it seem like hussie was siding with the anti-sj fans after all. at the time, i remember people trying to excuse it away by saying that kankri was an affectionate parody, or that it was only targeting Bad SJWs, or any other sorts of justifications.

it all came to a head in the beginning of the trickster arc tho, which, if you werent aware, originally had jane say this. it didnt help that he then went on to have ALL of the alpha kids appear in the same skin tone, and later made a tweet (that has since been deleted) saying that all of the trickster characters were white. it became pretty clear that the trickster arc, for all that it does contain some plot relevant stuff, was really just an excuse for hussie to isolate and mock the people that made up the majority of his fanbase.

though at the time i didnt fully understand that, looking back, it was a pretty swift knee to the gut for fans whose main reasons for enjoying homestuck had to do with the aracial aspect. on top of that, it was insanely audacious for hussie to even do something like that knowing that he was targeting a pretty sizable amount of his readers. to this day im not entirely sure what possessed him to do it. 

naturally, though, there was a MASSIVE backlash, and people were fighting about it for days. a lot of people i knew at the time stopped reading homestuck because of it, and those who stuck with it but dropped it later on cited the trickster arc as the reason why. it got so bad that, soon afterward, he edited the page to the version thats still up, which says “peachy” instead.

the racial aspect aside, even the stuff that happens in the arc proper is pretty clearly based in stuff that was happening amongst fans. in the arc, all the tricksters (except dirk) want to marry each other and have “a zillion babies.” it was a pretty clear joke about shippers in the fandom (especially since the arc ends with dirk and jake breaking up, and they were a fan favorite couple until that point). 

lastly, the fact that the arc just skips to the kids being in their respective moons, waiting to go god tier, seemed to be (in my humble analysis) a response to people who complained about the slowness of act 6. the trickster arc speeds the events of the story up considerably, to the point that we dont even see the path they take to get to the moons. they just. end up there. super hungover LMAO

but yeah tl;dr the trickster arc, or the handling of it anyway, was mainly a means of making fun of the pro-sj fans who rightfully addressed the fact that homestuck was failing as an “aracial” story, since there was a clear bias in favor of the kids being white. said mockery bombed spectacularly, cause, surprisingly, making fun of ur target audience is a bad idea.

What Made You Decide to Get a Tumblr: Back in 2011 my friend @robotlesbianjavert convinced me to make one, and then I eventually got into a bunch of fandoms that were really popular back then (mainly homestuck, marvel, and...the dreaded superwholock) and in 2013 i decided to make a tumblr about books, which was basically just a catalog of my library...didn’t even know booklr was a thing until ~fall 2014.

Why Did You Choose Your URL: Originally the blog was suspension-of-reality, but then it sounded more like a weird aesthetic blog than a book blog so I decided to combine two of my favourite things, forests and books! Originally I wanted it to be a play on The Forest of Hands and Teeth, like The Forest of Pages and Ink, but it changed to the-forest-of-books for some reason.
