Counseling Seminar

Based on what I’ve heard and learned from our visitor speaker Ms. Mary Joy, according to her, counselling is a service that offer or give to a client or individual that is undergo in a problem and needs professional assistance.

The 2 concepts that I learned are: Individual Psychology, this concept explain the lifestyle interpretation, early recollections, social interests and underlying purpose of symptoms. In this concept, Ms. Mary Joy told us when we were child, our memories are processed by collaborative feedback. The true and reported memory. She let us remember our favorite story books and the memories of it and the reality. Psychoanalytic therapy, it aims to make unconscious motives conscious uncover. In this concepts, I learned that this therapy is achieving self- awareness, honesty and more productive and effective personal relationships.

The 3 important things that I learned are: Transactional analysis, this is one important thing that I learned. It is a talking therapy which client have sessions that designed to explore his/her personality and how this has been shaped by his/her experience. Cognitive techniques, this important thing tackles all about teaching client or individual on how to deal with their self-statement and encourage them to live based on reality in world. Emotive techniques, this thing tackled all about helping a individual to understand the value of unconditional self-acceptance and other’s acceptance.

 Based on my own understanding that I learned from seminar, 4 things that I will remember when doing in counselling are listen, observe, summarize, and analyze. You must listen to your client problem then follow it by observing what personality and risks that he is taking in that time. Then follow it by summarizing on your mind the problems and solutions in your clients concern. And lastly, you must analyze all the information that you have taken from your client then give him/ her a professional services that he need.
