Eddie worries about Buck.

And, if he lets himself think about it, he feels a little guilty for only worrying about Buck now, and not before.

Sure, he'd felt bad for the guy when Tommy dumped him but, well, Buck had been dumped before. He always ended up fine.

Maybe Eddie should have caught on earlier to the ways things were different this time around. Part of that was because Tommy was his friend, and that made things a little awkward, but he'd figured out soon enough that if he just... avoided talking with Tommy about Buck and with Buck about Tommy, it was... fine. He was just a little more vague about it when he had plans with either of them. Easy.

It wasn't exactly like he didn't have anything else on his mind, what with Christopher speaking to him in actual multi-word sentences these days and the whole El Paso house hunt.

Still, he should have probably caught on the fact that it was weird, how easy it was to avoid the subject of Tommy around Buck. At least, in depth.

Sure, Buck talked a lot about how he wanted to reach out, how he'd seen Tommy bubble him again, and the baking... well, the baking spoke for itself. Still, it had taken Buck a full week to share any sort of details as to why he and Tommy had broken up, how it had happened. Even then, Buck had been pretty closed off about it.

And then Buck just... kept baking. And, okay, sue Eddie, it hadn't pinged anything at first because Buck has a tendency to get a little intense about things in general. Until now, those things usually only lasted for a short period of time before Buck wore himself out and things went right back to normal. Or he would go on to the next thing, which, for Buck, was normal.

But the baking went on, so Eddie had figured, hey, Buck had a new hobby. It was a way to cope that wasn't unhealthy for anyone except the people he kept trying to pawn his pastries off to. He was keeping local businesses running with his shopping habits. Buck was keeping himself busy, processing his emotions in a way that didn't involve suing the department or having to be bailed out of jail. You know, all good things. So surely it was fine.

But now... the Tommy thing.

Eddie had kept in contact with Tommy. They'd kept up their weekly hangouts and it hadn't been awkward, because they didn't talk about it. Tommy had looked a little more rough around the edges and he was a little quieter than he had been, but Eddie could tell he was dealing with it in his own way. Their sparring got an extra edge of intensity to it and Eddie enjoyed the extra challenge. Figured if Tommy wanted to talk, he'd talk. But he didn't, so they didn't. Easy as that.

Eddie thought it was, well, fine.

But now Buck is very clearly not fine, and Eddie just watches and sips his coffee while Buck gestures emphatically as he says something to Maddie.

“Have you talked to him?”

Chimney appears by his side and Eddie very nearly inhales his next sip. “Holy-- Chim, stop sneaking up on people like that.”

“Well, have you?”

Eddie dabs at his shirt, trying to figure if he's going to need to change or if the dark blue fabric masks the coffee stain well enough. Glances over to find Chimney still standing next to him, also watching Maddie and Buck.

“You talking about Buck, or Tommy?” Eddie finally asks.

“Either, or.”

“Talked to Tommy day before yesterday. He seemed fine.”

“What about Buck?” Chim says, turning towards Eddie. “Has he... talked to you?”

Somehow Eddie suspects he doesn't mean just in general. “About...?”

“His... theory.”

Eddie frowns. “No, he hasn't mentioned a theory. What kind of theory?”

Chimney ignores his question. “Nothing about Tommy seeming... off?”

“No, I...” Eddie hesitates, thinks back. “Well, he has been asking a lot more questions. But like, trying to be subtle about it, you know?”

Chimney hums.

Eddie casts him a sidelong glance. “Why? What'd he say to you?”

“I probably shouldn't say,” Chimney says. He's fidgeting. Eddie waits him out.

All it takes is a single raised eyebrow on his part and one glance up from Chimney, and Chim cracks. “Fine, but this stays between us, alright?” He glances around them. “He thinks Tommy isn't Tommy.”

Eddie lets the words sink in. Waits for them to make sense. They don't. “What the hell does that mean?”

“See? That's what I asked him, but he couldn't explain it. Just said he wasn't acting like himself.”

Eddie considers this. “I mean, he has seemed a little different, recently.”

“Different how?”

Eddie thinks its a good thing Buck isn't here to hear it, honestly felt guilty about even noticing it, before. “Honestly? Tommy seems... better.”

“Better how?”

Eddie shrugs again. “Calmer? Like he's actually getting some sleep these days.”

“Shit,” Chimney huffs.

“Yeah.”

“Don't tell Buck that.”

“Wasn't planning to.”

They finish their coffee in silence.

Yay! Thank you for responding to my last ask :) I absolutely love the family (Steve, Larry and Rob) Can I know your Mr. Small or Robert headcanons too?

Oughh This one’s pretty long, so once again putting it under a cut ⬇️

(Like last time, if u don’t care abt me yapping there’s some drawings down there too haha)

• Mr Small likes anime and cosplay.

The biggest reason for this is his cosplay of Sailor Moon in “The Ghouls” episode. But along with cosplay I feel like he just likes to dress up in general. He has a surprisingly large amount of outfits throughout the series like: The honesty bear (The sock), Criminal Bozo fit (The allergie), Classic Hippie fit (The Silence), The Small hours music video fits (The Singing) and a couple more that he wears frequently like his rollerblading fit and his meditation fit. And those are just the ones that come to my head first, there’s definitely more in the show I think. He also has a bunch of outfits in the comics but I haven’t read those (yet. I really want them)

Similarly Larry does the same thing actually. Although, it makes more sense for him since he does it specifically for work reasons (And we see him so much more often). The thing is about Larry’s outfits is that I think are especially cute is that he dresses up for his role (specifically as a stereotypical worker you’d expect to see in whichever store he’s in) even if there isn’t a specific uniform. I’ve made a post about this before right here. Basically something I noticed is that he puts on temporary tattoos for a few of his jobs, not to mention he literally put on a fake gotee for his barber outfit. I like to think Larry is too busy to have his own hobbies but he accidentally adopted dressing up and he thoroughly enjoys it, even if he’s not exactly aware that he’s doing it.

• Rob takes both of Larry and Steve’s last names after being adopted.

I’ve thought for a long time which last name was gonna be their family last name but I was sooo hung up about it cuz both Larry and Mr Small’s last names are pretty important to their work. Larry is known all over town for being “Larry Needlemeyer” so it would be a pain to get that changed for him and be bad for his publicity as a well known worker. As for Mr Small he’s literally a teacher, everyone at his workspace adresses him by last name so it would be strange for him to change names as well. Basically what I’ve settled with for now is that they would share a hyphenated last name. So Mr Small’s would be “Steven Needlemeyer-Small” and Larry’s would be “Laurence Needlemeyer-Small”. This same thing would apply for Rob with him being “Rob Needlemeyer-Small”. I feel like this would be the best way for them to share a family name while staying consistent and least confusing. Plus it won’t affect neither Steve’s or Larry’s jobs all that much.

• Rob has a million nicknames

We all know the gag about Rob being called different names. I think it would be fun if when Larry and/or Steve calls for him (whether they need help or he’s in trouble) they call him by different variations of “Rob” like: Robert, Robbie, Roberto etc… I think his legal name would be still be just “Rob” tho, there’s really no reason for it to be anything else as that’s the name he remembers after getting out of the void.

• Mr Small is really bad at relationships

The thing about Mr Small his the he is one of the few middle aged adults in the show without a spouse or family members at all. Almost all of the middle aged adults in the show are the same age, we know this because they all went to school together but most importantly because they all went to prom together. My point is, almost all of the people he went to school with are either married, dating someone or have children of their own. Meanwhile he is single, no known family and doesn’t seem to have many friends outside of work. We even see him talking to Mr Corneille about his struggles online dating (The Wish), admittedly he wasn’t on a dating website but rather a pizza delivery app but that even further shows how he’s not super good with social queues and close relationships as he couldn’t tell the difference.

To contrast Mr Small, Larry is super good with people interactions. Obviously, with his work he needs to be. But as far as romantic relationship go, I think he’d be a very stereotypical good boyfriend type. Where he’d take his dates to nice restaurants, buy them flowers or go for walks. He likes things simple and classic.

• Rob likes video games

Idk I don’t really have a reason for this one. I think he’d constantly play Super Smash Bros on a Nintendo switch he was gifted for Christmas or smth lmaoo. The idea of him ragging online is very funny to me, especially if it’s stupid simple kids games where there isn’t much brain power to do them. He’d stream “Playing Fireboy and Water girl by myself!” if Larry let him.

hello everyone ! my name is hyune or phobia, i'm 21+ and use he／they pronouns. i'm currently looking for long—term one on one roleplays with people 18 and older, preferably on discord, or roleplay groups to join ˎˊ-.

⊹ i write in a descriptive, 3rd person point of view, normally ranging from three to five paragraphs. if you have a different writing style, shorter or longer, i'll match ! i tend to use a lot of prose and flowery language, as well as visual changes in my writing — including using capital words or fonts for emphasis. if you would prefer i don't do this, feel free to let me know and i'll leave it out !

⊹ generally, i prefer plots where romance is not the driving factor. i will often include it as a subplot, or something that furthers the main point, but romance—centered stories are not for me ! that being said, if there is a romance plot that you're very interested in, feel free to offer it and we can see if it's something that can be worked with. i absolutely love soulmate plots where neither of them are expecting it, or the soulmatism is the cause of sooo much pain and anguish.

⊹ i love angst. i love it. i live it and breathe it and i will injure and maim and maul my characters for fun! sorry about this! i like hurting them! fluff is so rare!! what is a happy ending without pain so they can appreciate it! etcetera. i'm sorry!!

⊹ plot—wise, once more, i tend to work with darker plots. many of my writings include death, light gore, religious imagery and blasphemy, drugs and illegal substances, and more generally mature themes. while i may reference suicide or self—harm, it will not be actively written. that aside, i will not write r*pe, ab*se, in*est, p*dophilia or any of the above topics including a minor. i also do not tolerate racism, and prefer not to write any kind of sexism. homophobia is a theme that many of my characters will have in their backstory, but not one i'm willing to include in current roleplay events other than as a reference to the past.

* as a note : any action by my characters that is illegal or generally seen as wrong is not one that is endorsed by me. these are actions taken by fictional characters in a piece of writing that stays between me and another writer or group of writers, and are not identifiers of a lifestyle that i believe others should attempt to emulate.

⊹ i will write smut if it furthers the plot or if we are close only. please do not request it; i will not write it as a focal point. any smut or sexual mentions in my writing are based purely on built chemistry and generally, will shape the plot: i do not believe that casual sex will not change a relationship. if that is a plot point for us, then by all means ! — i do not have any issue with discussing sexual themes in writing, and do believe in a sex—positive environment.

⊹ i prefer queer pairings. my characters' gender identity and sexuality often play a crucial part of their journey and even if it's not active in the roleplay, it is important to me and i will be talking about it ! most, if not all, of my experience lies with mlm ／ nb pairings, but i'd like to reach into wlw pairings and writing to better myself. ˎˊ-

⊹ most of my characters have an irl idol or celebrity faceclaim. i do not do real—person roleplay, though i may reuse names, but my characters are not their faceclaims. i use them because they inspire me and are fitting. all my ocs are close to or older than their fc. most of my faceclaims are k—pop idols. if this bothers you, do not bother with interacting! i have a few that are not, but i tend to have very low muse for them.

⊹ i prefer oc and fandomless writing. that being said, i do have ocs and canon characters that i've written in the genshin impact verse and bungo stray dogs universe. i'm very open to writing these, it's just not something i've done as often ! i'm also willing to dip my toes into honkai impact 3rd, saw, hannibal, or something with a plot similar to inuyasha, neon genesis evangelion, stardew valley, legends of zelda, reanimator, and a lot more !

⊹ i've been roleplaying and writing for over eight years, on multiple different platforms from wattpad to tumblr to twitter, discord, and mewe. generally, i prefer plotting before deciding on characters as it allows me to be sure the characters will be ones that will help rather than hinder the plot and leave us at a standstill !

The Exocolonists of Vertumna (tumblr edition) Part 1: The starborn children of the Stratospheric

Sooo this is something I've been wanting to work on making for awhile, a tumblr text post addon for the big chunky npc list I've had for over a year. There's a lot of data I've accumulated over time that just doesn't fit in a google sheet in a decent way, and so I've been wanting to make some text posts to cover ideas that don't fit in my sheets, or might be an easier read for people who find my documents confusing.

I try to pull from canon as much as possible, and use speculation taken from a long hyperfixation on the concept of generation ships or bunkers and love for sci-fi media about it. The idea behind this list has always been to provide people with both an accessable set of easily usable/chuckable/maimable/fuckable/killable/ect names and ideas to fluff out the background of your own stories and with an illusion of consistancy, and to offer insight into my own headcanons that I've developed, so that people can take any bits and pieces they want and re-examine or reuse or recycle how they want. As always, I'll still try to mark which info is explicitly canon, but theres a lot of blanks to be filled in and my take on how things could be explained is far from the only one.

This one is gonna be an overview of the 54 people born on the Stratospheric and some approximate either in-universe or out-of-universe explanations for why things are structured the way they are. Future ones will cover specific sub-sections of those shipborn Stratos, overviews and department-specific pages about the adults of the Stratospheric, matching pages for people of the Heliopause, the children born during the final two years of the game, and even data for the kids possibly born beyond that.

In the earliest stages of drafting the ships population, the founders had planned to have exactly 100 people on the Stratospheric when it left Earth, primarily composed of their brightest and most promising between ages 10 and 25 (in local Earth years), and that 35 children would be born in five groups of seven during its 21(e)/20 (local Vertumna years) year journey, the maximum they could have fit in that ideal situation. On launch day in reality, the ship left with only 86 out of it's planned 100. Several of their important specialists were intercepted en-route to the launch pad, and a handful of their volunteer teenagers backed out in the final days and hours, while the reserve choices they had on hand were children chosen for their genetic diversity rather than skills or potential, with Utopia being an especially young outlier at just shy of 3(e). Outside of her and their sole member of generation one, Captain Eudicot, the ships population ran from original Chief Administrator Chiffon at 33(e) down to little Jubilation at 6-and-a-half(e). In one of the final documents outlined by the Earth colony's leaders in the hours before liftoff, the plans for the third generation were expanded from 35 to 50, adjusted for the younger leaning launch population and all the changes it entailed.

Similar to the founders original plan, spacer kids were still divided into five age groups (A, B, C, D, and E), with at least a year between the youngest person in one group and the eldest of the next. Half of this was to give the ship's lone acting physician a break period where there were no fresh infants or pregnancies to worry about, and the other half was to give the ship's administration time to carefully plan out the next set of children; How many children would be in this group, who was going to gestate the pregnancies, who their social parents would be (if any), what augments Instance would give them, and, most importantly, keeping an eye on the current genetic and social diversity of the third generation, so that they did not reach a genetic or social bottleneck too quickly (ie incest in a social setting, even if the two individuals are not genetically related). All of the embryos that would become the next group of children were created in the same few month period of time and cryofrozen until they were due to be implanted in the person chosen to gestate them. There were a number of extra rules that the Vertumna Group had written out that ultimately Eudicot and the council decided to abandon to at some point in the trip, all for various reasons, and not all by unanimous vote;

That there would be no need for drastic changes in the current groups' plans once the planning stage was over.

That every pregnancy would only include one fetus, with post-implantation embryo splits being selectively reduced.

None of the children born on the Stratospheric would have any genetic relationship with one another, and parents having more than one child would be discouraged, and that in cases where siblings did occur, either each sibling would only take genes from one parent (in family units with 2+ parents) or only the eldest child would have genetic relation to their parent and any following child would be purely from donated dna (for family units with only one parent).

That, at minimum, a quarter of every group should be set asside to for children with no dedicated family attachments, both to better. adhere to the group's original idea of having no parents, but also to give the young colony a bit more padding against the looming threat of everyone being second or third cousins in only a few generations.

Another rule that, while not completely abandoned, was less and less considered as the years went on was one that mandated how many embryos of each cluster were planned to develop with a genetically likely physiology that could get pregnant, a physiology that could get others pregnant, or anything in the vast array of historically normal and genetech introduced non-reproductive physiologies. This was never intended to determine the gender of the resulting children and any gene therapy they want or require in the future, or guarentee that the embryo would fully develop in the "intended" (solely in regards to their future reproductive capibilities, without further gene therepy involvement) way, but rather an attempt to gamble that at a decent number of the third generation would be able to continue the human species in the event their genetech was lost prematurely. For the original plan with 5 groups of 7, each group was to have a minimum of 3 embryos with an expected physeology that would be able to carry a pregnancy, 3 that could sire a pregnancy, and the 7th wouldn't have any requirements. The 3/3/1 ratio was followed exactly only during the first group, while following groups would only roughly follow this plan. In total, 54 children were born between leaving Earth and arriving at the wormhole; 30 out of them having siblings of some kind, with 10 of those children being born in sets of multiples (with two sets of twins and two sets of triplets) - with only one accidental post-implanation embryotic split resulting in two of those children - with 16 of the children have some genetic relationship with one another (though, with the exception of the identical sisters, none closer than genetic half siblings); and ultimately, only 9 children were explicitly born to be raised in the creche without parentage.

The 54 children of the Stratospheric:

Group A: The oldest spacer kids, they'd be adults at landing by Helio standards but they're still minors by the culture of the Vertumna group, coddled and babied more at landing than Sol when they reach the same age down the road, even if they still have adult jobs and responsabilities.

Group B: Kom's age group, with him as the oldest of the bracket, still young enough to be discovering themselves but old enough that the adults are rapidly giving them more responsibilities than their upperclassmen were at the same age. A series of unlikely and specific events led to the existance of the ships first set of multiples, and their existance provides in-universe backstory and reasoning for why some of the following children exist.

Quinine "Quinni" - they/them, later + he/him - 15 - same deal as Sorrel, even being named in the same event

Thicket - Any, masculine familiar terms - 14** (15th birthday after arriving on Vertumna but before Sol wakes up in medbay)

Twins Dysthymia "Dys" (he/him) and Tangent "Tang" (she/her) - 9 - in all of my headcanon documents, including this one, I am going with the idea that they are planned fraternal twins with seperate sperm donors; I know the take that they were idetical twins is a common one, but it isn't actually a canon one; nothing in the game actively states this, the idea that they were identical is simply a common and very reasonable take on the information the game gives us, but it was never something I got from playing the game myself. If you're curious about all the exact reasons for this you can send an ask and I'll elaborate.

Group D - The younger kids, like Anemone's triplet brothers, half of them have their holopalms installed but still spend a lot of time in the creche when they land. All but the eldest three are kids Sol and Tammy babysit, and 100% of them are kids Sol can later tutor in school

Group E - The youngest of the generation, all toddlers and babies on arrival, space born in technicality, but children of Vertumna in every other way. The largest of the groups with 13 children included, and the group with the most imaginative and most untested augments.

Nimbus - he/him - 3 - similar to the cloud triplets, we never get his age beyond that he's "little Nimbus", but he's old enough to be in school when Sol first unlocks the tutoring job so I put him at Nougat's age

Maraschino "Chino" - he/him & she/her - 2 -while Chino does appear in game with only the he/him pronouns used, "Marachino "Chino" with the pronouns he/him"'s age is never directly given in-game, a "Marachino "Mara" with the pronouns she/her" and an age of 2 is listed in the same file that gives the cloud triplet's their approximate age and listed as a child encountered during babysitting, so I went with a middle ground of having this character use both pronouns and later both nicknames

Tessera "Tess" - she/her - 2

Macaroni "Mac" - she/her & he/him - 1 - the child with the no pain augment is refered to with he/him pronouns in-game, but I went with a similar deal to Chino for variety

Contrivance "Connie" - he/him - 1 - the child with the shark teeth augment is also refered to with he/him pronouns

Twins Whimsy and Praline (both she/her) - 0 - while one of Dys's late game/high skill events has him talking about how at one point he and Tangent were "The Twins" prior to their relationship crumbling apart, I thought it would be narratively fitting to have a younger set of twins being planned/conceived/born at the same time as their relationship falls apart as Tangent gets further into genetics (where said twins were being made), making him and Tang lose their status as being "The Twins" in multiple ways

Benzodiazepine "Benji" - he/him - 0

Enigma "Ena" - she/her - 0 - the youngest child from the Strato's third gen and last one to be born in space is refered to with she/her pronouns as a baby, opted to keep those pronouns as she grows older

In total, the shipborn children and teenagers account for roughly 40% of it's landing population (39.7% when arriving at the wormhole, and 42.2% after the canonly unavoidable loss of life during it's landing). This number combined with the chaos of living on a new planet and the very likely scenario of the ship's brown dirt being lost would be a good starting explanation for some of the glaring failures in child wellfair and safety during the 10 years we see during the game, but definately not an excuse. Side note: Canonically, Anemone's brother Kom is the oldest shipborn child we see, and while I believe Lindsay intended for Kom to be the oldest member of gen 3 after Utopia, this is never actually stated in the game, and I was surprised to see that it was the intent as it never came across to me that way during my initial playthroughs. Nothing in here explicitly ignores or goes against anything said or mentioned in the game proper, but I know that having any of the kids be older than Kom is probably the not the most canon way to construct the generations layout. One of the canonly used names in the game, "Sorrel", has been given to one of these teens, but there is neither anything for or against Sorrel being this age, as the only information we get beyond a name is a manner of death and a place of work.

Mine’s Robin (she/her) (and not her original name), who’s got ENORMOUS glasses that make her eyes teeny tiny dots, and big sticky-out red braids on either side (she privately theorises that March doesn’t like her because she’s a natural redhead). She is a monster maniac, like Steve Irwin style enthusiasm, with added Merlin from Sword In The Stone vibes of being such a kooky brainiac that she loops back around to slightly feral cryptid energy. Often spends days without talking to anybody, but mention any item in a positive lens, even briefly, and she will eventually pop up and hand one to you without saying a word. This is how March was given a Magma Beetle. May not say much, but clearly listening. Classic pebbling.

She’s somewhat perturbed by the advancement of the plot in the game. See, she’s originally from Capital, and circumstances conspired so that she wound up saving some important noble from a fairly basic monster. However, aforementioned noble felt embarrassed, and they couldn’t disguise that she’d saved them, she had to drag them back to civilisation. So instead, he elected to spin it as having been an infinitely more deadly encounter, and the rumours have spread such that she wound up a somewhat famous adventurer based on a story blown completely out of proportion. So when she saw the posting for Mistria, she made the executive decision to change her look, change her name, and go into hiding until it blew over. So a ghost calling her a hero and finding the Dragonsworn armour out of the blue is not exactly conducive to ‘lying low’. But then she fell in love with Mistria, and the people there, and found all the cool stuff in the mines, and now she is never going to leave come Hell or high water.

Her favourite townies are Errol, Eiland and March, but she really does love all of them. She likes Errol and Eiland for the shared love of knowledge (she and Eiland have great infodump trading sessions, it’s fantastic). March she finds funny more than anything else, she is 0% intimidated, and just finds it fascinating that he decided she was his nemesis based on literally less than nothing, he’s like a puffed up cat.

I love characters with special interests, and since monsters are one of mine, I feel a kindred spirit has appeared in Robin! I also love the little bit about March being jealous of her hair color -- it's so him lmaooo. Even if her suspicions aren't correct, they TOTALLY could be, and that's what makes it so funny.

It's really cool when characters are trying to hide from their past, and the setup of FoM really allows for the crafting of a good backstory in that regard. The fact that nothing especially heinous happened, and that she's gone into hiding to cover up a secret/lie that was never even one that she, herself, crafted? Perfection. It has the setup for either drama or laughs, or a bit of both, and I feel like it fits the spirit of the story and the increased presence of "the capital" as it all progresses. And now that Robin's been granted ACTUAL heroic powers from Caldarus... well, it sets up for a great reveal!!! Yessss more love for Errol, we love a knowledgeable and friendly old guy. He's such a sweetheart. And so is Eiland!!! I can imagine the three of them meeting at all hours, letting time get away from them just blabbing about today's cool find. Very cozy and nice vibes there.

Sooo yeah, here's the thing, I do have a hunger games rosekiller au and now that you've asked, I'm going to yap about it and then explain where it's at.

Its called "What We Love Most". I'm not going to go deep in detail on the premise but its a Wizarding au meshed with a Hunger Games au - which means ✨️magic✨️ and it's hugely important to the plot (exactly how will remain as mystery for now)

Anyway, I made a few changes to the games - the ages of the tributes are ten to twenty, and three are chosen from each district instead of two, and there are two winners instead of one. The prize of winning isn't money - it's freedom, and a special second thing that I won't reveal.

Here's the official blurb:

Barty Crouch Jr. is twenty when he volunteers for the games. Upon entering the arena, he knows that fear is a construct–a device used to weaken your opponent. He never thought he’d be afraid of anything. Not until now.

While my main inspiration for writing a hunger games au is obviously hunger games, one of my big influences is actually the show The 100 (I know super random). But it covers many themes that I find really enticing; love, survival, death, sacrifice, instincts, etc. just like the hunger games - but on an even deeper level.

While this fic will cover all of those, the main thematic questions I aim to answer are:

1. To what extent are we willing to go for survival? and how does it define us?

2. What boundaries does hope have?

And

3. How does love factor into both?

Whenever I write a story, even a simple one shot I consider "what am I trying to say with this story?"

Sometimes I come up with the theme questions first, and then write, and sometimes they begin to present themselves as I write, kind of like with my recent fic Love Was the Law - the theme just sort of happened.

Anyway, those are the three themes I'll be exploring more. I'm really excited honestly because I love writing violence, trauma and angst - it's my forte. So a Hunger Games au will be absolutely perfect for that.

Review: Avatar: The Last Airbender Live Action

First, some context: I started watching A:TLA when book 2 was airing. Since then, I watched it at least 10 times. Half of it in German and half of it in English. The last time was in 2020. I know a lot of lines by heart—yes in both languages. Zuko was my fist teenage crush and Oncle Iroh’s quotes helped my through a lot of dark times in my life. I might be biased because I love the original series a lot. But I try to reason everything carefully.

The Good

I loved it visually! Bending looked so cool and never felt out of place or weird. All of the shown places could be recognized in a blink. It was beautiful to see this world adapted in a realistic way.

The casting was mostly done perfect. A lot of the characters looked a lot like I would have imagine them.

The Kiyoshi Warriors were really awesome. Especially Suki—even though she didn’t got a name at all?!

I loved the addition with the 41st devision. It gave Zuko‘s crew actually a reason the respect him and fitted to his character and backstory.

Zuko and Iroh give the same energy as in the original. Usually this wouldn’t be something to mention, since I would expect this from and adaption. But due to issues you can read further below, I have to mention it. Zuko and Iroh might be one of the few characters that never felt out of character. I’m happy we got those two true to original at least.

The Bad

Since there is so much, I structure it even further into story, production and costumes.

Story:

I didn’t liked any of the story changes. I don’t even understand why they had to tangle all the storylines. The original book 1 is 20 episodes each about 20-25 minutes—which results in 400-500 minutes in total. The live action had 8 episodes each about 45 minutes to an hour—let’s say about 400-450 minutes in total. So basically, they could have taken the timeline as is is. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t advocate for a 1:1 adaption here. I just don’t get why they saw the need to tangle storylines, pull in things from later seasons and leave out important scenes, places, character traits and even whole characters. Each and every story change felt out of place, out of character and over all pointless. Nothing added anything that made sense. Just like it was changed because they had to change something.

Aang didn’t even learn water bending!!! Like what is the whole season even about if the main character doesn’t have a real character arc? All he does is having guilt over disappearing for 100 years. Yes that’s also a thing he has to overcome. But it is just half of it. And he even doesn’t really get over it. He has none of his childish fun moments like he does in the original.

Why did Sokka have SOOO much screen time?!?! Sometimes it felt like he‘s the protagonist of the series. Especially with Aang not even learning water bending.

Momo in contrast had like 0 screen time. But than in the last episode when he became important as plot device Sokka was weirdly attached to him.

Katara being her own master made it pointless to actually go to the northern water tribe. Yes there was Aang's vision. But in the original the plot is not mainly driven by what the fire nation does, but by what team avatar needs to do. Like… Aang learning bending!!!

We didn’t get the epic intro we could have. It felt like they tried to make up for it in the first episode. But having three different versions of the epic lines and finally Gran Gran dropping the original ones was actually the worst. It felt forced and as if she would read them out.

Everything regarding Azula was sooo off for me. She felt like a completely different character with other motivations and struggles. I wish she would not have been so present in the first season.

Uncle Iroh drank not enough tea. Lol. This is maybe a personal one and I cannot reason it to be honest.

I‘m disappointed by the Lu Ten moment. Fist of all, why did it need to be in season one?! But also: It was a bonding moment for Zuko and Iroh. It didn’t payed any respect for Lu Ten in my opinion. And leaves from the wine was barely noticeable and didn’t make feel anything.

Katara never lost her necklace. Which I don’t mind. But it made a huge plot hole for the headhunter Zuko hired. They tried to cover it with randomly finding a piece of fabric. But how did they know this belonged to the Avatar? This change feels similar to the one with the water bending scroll. Important things just become meaningless.

Agni Kai was once mentioned but never explained. If I didn’t know what an Agni Kai is from the original series, this would probably be either the most missed or confusing thing.

Hei Bai was never healed!!! Yeah sure, Aang saved the villagers. But what about the forest and spirit?! And why was there no winter solstice? And in general why did everything in the spirit world was so all over the place?

The siege of the Nothern water tribe being a distraction for Omashu is stupid. It would take them way too long to hear about it. So they would not be able to send troops there by time and it would not weaken them in any way.

The world feels super flat and boring. Because they tangled so many story lines, they got rid of a lot of places. No fire nation prison in the earth kingdom, no nothern air temple, almost no villages. You never get a change to explore the world and learn about the ordinary people.

Production:

The directing felt bad. A lot of people say, the acting was bad. But I don’t agree. First of all, a lot of the cast were children. I think it is not fair to judge them so easily and hard. In my opinion the directing wasn’t good. And you could tell because even the older and more experienced actors were really stiff.

The dialogs were almost always awkward. This adds to the previous point and is another sign that the acting isn’t the problem. The lines were sometimes random, jokes felt forced and original lines never made the same impact as in the animated series.

Some of the CGI green screen backgrounds were awful. They reminded you that this is a show which really pulled me out of the immersion.

Costumes:

The costumes felt lifeless. They could have added so much details to the garments and accessories. But of all things they decided to stick to the original with the costume design?! I expected the outfits to be a lot more toned down in brightness too. That’s something you need in an animated series, but not in a live action. So much missed potential.

Why could they not cast old people for old characters? All of them looked so stale, emotionless and almost uncanny.

I was sooo disappointed by Yue! Maybe I’m biased here, because she was one of my favorite characters of book one. But somehow she was the only character that didn’t felt casted perfectly. And especially her hair was awful and looked like a cheap wig.

Conclusion

Overall, I‘m disappointed. Again, I didn’t expected a 1:1 adaptation. But I don’t see that the same care was put into it like it was for the original. I would have wanted to have something that creates similar emotions and an overall known feeling. But it doesn’t. It’s confusing, flat and carelessly made. I can definitely see why the original creators stepped back from it.

If you think about watching it, I would recommend you the original. Especially because it is not that much longer. So better invest your time wisely.

GX FAIRY TAIL/GUILD AU REVAMP POST

since my ass was bad at properly compiling this stuff and I'm interested in doing something with this au again sooo this post just serves as a reintroduction to the concept and with a list of the assigned Magic, there are a few characters i never really settled on their magic even now so if there are any exclusions that'll be why some also have a combination which I'd chalk up to it's an au I can mess around if I want. Anyways! THE CONCEPT/GENERAL OUTLINE: While i call it a fairy tail au it doesn't really follow the plot of fairy tail mostly just borrowing it's magic systems and world-building (not to bash on the plot it's more just a personal decision) hence the alternative name for this au just being the guild au instead of a school Duel Academia is a guild, instead of duellists they're magic wizards and so on and so forth the plot's similarities lean toward certain important gx events but play out a little differently. like you'd still have stuff like SOL and Haou but the way they happen changes. if anyone wants further clarification feel free to ask and i'll go in-depth in a separate post. with that ot of the way let's get to the magic assignments and with a small explanation to why if applicable

REQUIP MAGIC - JUDAI (and Haou too) - I Figured this was the best parallel for the Elemental HEROs what with the many combinations and whatnot considering there are SEVERAL different requip armours it felt right. I say Haou too for the obvious reasons as there's not really much reason to change it other than the sorts of armour used. DRAGON SLAYER MAGIC - MANJOUME (Lightning) RYO (METAL) FUBUKI (FIRE) - Manjoume might seem like a little bit of a weird decision but cmon he's Manjoume Thunder it'd be fun (also in the time between this new post and the old post we now have armoured thunder dragon lvl 10 so that's pretty cool incentive) Ryo seems the most self-explanatory what with the cybers. and foobs getting fire bc of red eyes ICE MAKER MAGIC - ASUKA - This takes more from her manga deck n all but there's also just the fun dynamic of Fubuki being fire and her being ice MEMORY MAKER MAGIC - MISAWA - you could argue about something else being more fitting but idk i kinda enjoy this for him SATAN SOUL - EDO - mostly because some of the Destiny HEROs have that demonic kind of appearance (Dogma, Bloo D, ect) and idk there's something fun to it as a ploy to E HEROs being the requips CELESTIAL GATE MAGIC - JOHAN - this just makes sense. 7 keys for each of the CB an extra special one for RD and you can even throw in Crystal Protector and Vanguard too for some fun dynamics

YUBEL: i had a lot of different ones down for yubel due to plot reasons for the original but mostly crash and black magic i'm still hoping for it to be an amalgamation of stuff but what hasn't been really landed on yet just like the kind of magic where they're powerful enough to decimate someone but yet still have some sort of believable innocence (since part of their plans in the au does involve them infiltrating the guild at some point) PEOPLE I HAVE IDEAS FOR BUT NOTHING SOLID YET: SAIOU - I would imagine it to be something similar to Kana's cards but with Tarot cards instead not exactly sure of the ins and outs yet KENZAN - something of a mix between beast soul and animal soul take overs?? just with a more reptilian focus bc gotta keep the Dino DNA in tact O'BRIEN - gun requip might be an option but just a hard maybe atm I'll write more on bits later down in separate posts but that's basically it for now again feel free to ask for more if there is anything od interest

Have finally finally finally found a solution which fixes the majority of the geography problems in the RRL 'verse and drawn a map of the (fictional) area where most of the bits taking place in the countryside take place.

Landowners' houses indicated with squares labelled with the family name, houses of important working class characters indicated with an X and the name the story typically calls the main person who lives there, other pertinent locations indicated with a coloured in diamond. Ragged line is a small river and the normal lines are roads.

(Guy who hates having to draw complex maps voice) maps of the area are notoriously not very good. The last time it was mapped was in roughly 1725 before the massive population shifts caused by famines and riots and so on, and even then that was a halfhearted effort made by someone who didn't really care about their work both because the Marquess at the time paid them like 1 penny and a bottle of wine for their work and because it was the dead of winter when they were mapping and they were sooo cold. So there are basically no maps, and you had better know where you're going or have someone who does while trying to walk around here or you won't get very far. *Slaps the Durham estate* this lad can fit so many unmarked geographical hazards and dangers in it.

Continuing on, here is a colour coded map to explain to the viewer who owns how much land and where. Blue is Durham, red is Towers, pink is the Marquess, orange is Young, and the giant yellow eating everything is O'Neill. Hopefully this does a lot to explain why every single character is willing to commit untold atrocities to get their hands on Gerald O'Neill's estate.

Now, the astute viewer may have noticed that Gerald, who is Some Guy, owns 100000000x more land than the local Marquess. This is due to an extremely shady will change in about 1742, wherein the then-current Marquess (son of the one who wouldn't pay the mapmaker), who was dying of An Illness, changed "the land gets left to the eldest male descendant" to "the land goes to my eldest child" and his lawyer let it slide without investing further despite the land technically originally being entailed because he was about to die and his eldest child was a man so, ok, weird choice, but whatever. That man succumbed, however, to a hunting accident with suspicious speed, and then the Marquess died and before anyone could realise what had happened his second child, a daughter, had all the land and the title, also entailed but in such a way that there was no ambiguity, was given to her prepubescent younger brother. The family was so upset about 2 crushing deaths right after one another that nobody bothered to get angry about the situation and the new Marquess just bought an unrelated piece of land to live on... until the start of 8GOG, at which point Ten Thousand Lawsuits Over Inheritance At Once. A lot of complaints about reaping coming from the sowers &c.

after reading the situation with HC i was afraid the same happened to MoC since they stated you were an author they looked up at and the summary of the story always reminded me of MoC (i never actually read their story)

when i read the post i was so shocked and baffled and i thought well surely there's no way the issue with moc could be this bad but it was so far beyond that sadly. i didn't include screenshots of every single bit that was similar because honestly that post would have gone on forever if i had. and upon thinking about it further i would not even be okay with them slapping my name at the top of the masterlist and saying i inspired that when some of the story is taken scene for scene..

in my opinion, you can always tell when someone knows they're doing something wrong. and the fact that they had previously stated wanting to write a story inspired by moc then proceeding to do so without tagging me or crediting me shows that they know they're in the wrong to some degree.

writing is hard and it is difficult and it's something that isn't easy by any means. there is so much work that goes on behind the scenes and behind each chapter that is posted and my friends can attest to the fact that i am constantly running things by them 'is this good, does this make sense, does this fit the flow of the story, does this work with the tone, is this tone good for this scene' etcetcetc. and what people who plagiarize don't realize is that they are not only taking the hard work of authors (bc i do not consider you to be an author if you plagiarize) you are also taking the heart that went into writing those works, which is the most upsetting part. there are so many nuances and important things put into those scenes that were copied that lose value in being copied, and i wish that plagiarizers could realize how deep it goes

I've been thinking about dnd a lot. I miss it, and right now I'm rotating my hand elf paladin Moss and my unnamed Tiefling warlock in my head.

Moss is already in a game but we haven't played in a long while. I miss her. I like her character - amnesiac who is confused but got spirit. Genuinely a sweet and kind person that wants to see the best in others, but knows when to pick up a sword - and while the paladin class has A Lot, it's sooo fun and is honestly kinda my perfect balance of what I like? I like doing big close up damage but also having some spells on the side( I tried multi classing once. Not for me, too much information to keep track of-). I have to get used to the fact that I am, in fact, not a squishy bard but rather a tank that will most likely be taking hits for everyone lol.

My Tiefling warlock oc was pretty much made bc I was missing Moss and I wanted her to have a foil. Warlock is pretty much Moss' opposite? Kinda? Paladin vs Warlock, Moss is pretty optimistic all things considered, Warlock is much more cynical. Moss is more than willing to help those in need, Warlock is often out for herself. Moss doesn't really know her purpose ( amnesia), Warlock knows what she wants and is willing to do anything to get it. Basically sunshine and storm clouds lol. I don't see Warlock as evil per say, just someone who is headstrong and believes she has to only look out for herself.

Whenever I think of the two, it's usually in tandem with each other? Despite me not even knowing Moss' deal ( I left it in the hands of my DM) and I. Can't really play Warlock now can I? But I still end up thinking of them as like. Childhood friends that got separated by circumstances or something. Warlock has always had a kill or be killed mentality ( thanks to her family) but has a big ol soft spot for Moss despite Moss not exactly fitting into her own plans. No, it does not hurt when Moss doesn't recognize who she is, thank you very much.

Also, and this is very important, they're both sword fighters! Cause of course they are, what type of doomed(????) yuri wouldn't have sword fights. Moss, as a paladin, generally carries and sword and shield of reasonable bulk. Warlock on the other hand I imagine carrying a saber, I think it's called? Those things swords that look elegant and good for fast movements. Think Weiss from RWBY ( heh. I think if I just said that before, I wouldn't have to explain Warlock huh lmaoooo. I think even her design in my head is pretty much akin to Weiss in some ways). Warlock is a spell caster first and foremost but I imagine she grew up in a family that made sure she knew how to wield a sword before anything else. I've always seen Warlock as more nimble in comparison to Moss. I know I say multi classing isn't for me, but I can see her at least being a rogue too.

So. Basically. Moss is a Redemption Paladin ( this might change but I felt it fits her character) and Warlock is a Hexblade warlock ( and maybe rogue but I'm not 100% sure)

Also to be clear: I haven't played Warlock at all. She's just an oc in my head right now. And I don't even know if she'll be able to be connected to Moss, since Moss themself has a lot going on. But I still adore them, and I should really give Warlock a name. Also Moss isn't Moss' real name, it's just the first thing she saw upon waking up in the campaign she was in and she couldn't remember her real name ( which honestly doesn't feel like her name anymore anyway so.). Her name is Moss.

Kuroha's nickname for Ene, "Dear little rabbit" is intentional, because bunnies are the prey of snakes.

Kuroha's nickname (pet name) for Ene would be "My dear little bunny/rabbit" or 親愛なるウサギちゃん (Shin'ai naru Usagi-chan; "[My] dear/beloved [little] bunny/rabbit")

His chosen nickname is definitely on purpose on his part, because bunnies are the prey of snakes, and he is the hunter. Mankind is his hunting ground. So, it still ends up playing up to his ego.

so!! unlike the au where walenty takes paris's place, they swap with delta this time. they're lowkey thriving compared to their own canon it's amazing... ANYWAYS one of the first things I did was discuss khiyophor (χ-04, the ∆ of beldam institute got replaced with a χ because I didn't wanna name walenty delta) and what powers they could have! I still think telekenisis would've been an okay-ish fit but I wanted to be original...

I didn't have a lot of good ideas, so at the end it came to choosing between aerokinesis (air manipulation) and portal making!! I really liked the vibe of aerokinesis and the possible visual of soldiers wearing gas masks because there won't be any oxygen on a planet, or a horrible tornado that completely destroys a civilization and leaves nature to retake its course. it's also reminiscent of delta basically nuking cities by squeezing them with telekenisis while still being its own thing :3

however I also liked the possibility of khiyophor stalking people through mini portals! lil peepholes... they're also weaker in terms of raw power so they'd need way more precision..... that's so walenty I love my control freak.......

also! whereas delta's powers have an electric aura and johanna's a floral one, khiyophor's are cold/icy :3 this also corresponds to the rest of their overuse symptoms!! but first I gotta explain other stuff LIKEEEEEE THEIR DESIGN! rah I love character design

look at their little outfit.... it's actually quite inaccurate to empire design conventions since alia's and mine aesthetics are so different but it's okay......

they're taller in this au than in their canon! not by a lot, but a little. also a bjd (ball jointed doll) like paris! originally this was for thematic reasons (already being porcelain doll-like, control symbolism, dehumanisation), but their visual similarity to paris (or more importantly, sabina) does actually play a role! I also changed them to be strawberry blonde rather than purple haired to really zero this in 😭 khiyophor is not related to paris, they're just the same species (actually I think paris is only like half doll while khiyophor is full) and both blondes (different blondes but still) and have black eyes

oh also small detail! I stole @/sir-fenris's hc of doll ppl constantly being tiptoed because of doll feet being built for heels. this is why khiyophor has platform heels instead of their usual platforms

similarly to how delta can sense "touch" with his telekenisis, khiyophor's portals have their own senses! for sight and sound it's like watching something from a camera monitor but that monitor is its own eye, for touch smell and taste it's like doing it through a bag that dampens it sorta? so often during attacks they just have a portal at the sky as a vantage point and overview of the battle. alia compared it to the eye of sauron....

anyways how they're deployed issss actually among other soldiers! their portals close inwards and have sharp edges, so they stay at the ship, get coordinates called out to them, and snip off heads while the rest of battle is happening. yay? khiyophor can have multiple portals at once when uncollared!! so if they're not reaching their limit when the battle is over then they even teleport leftover body parts that fell to a storage bin

speaking of their limit!! the overuse symptoms have stages! gradual deterioration >:) I started a drawing with this but haven't gotten back to it bc I'm me

at first it's shivering because they're still feeling heavy winds and blood sprays and all the other sensory stuff! quickly goes into like. small twitching and muscle spasms, then the shaking is more violent (clack clack clack bc of doll joints!) and they start slouching at this point 😭 martino gives them a slap on the back of the head like you do with old computers to restart them... it works......

but yeah they are shaking twitching hardly even keeping their eyes open. also they do the thing where you tear up not as a crying thing because your body is trying to expel something dirty from your eyes or cleanse them or smt. they do that. also fall at the next stage, has to be caught so that they don't hit their head 😭😭😭 poor baby tbh

another thing!! you remember how I mentioned aura in reference to the air feeling electric around delta or floral around johanna?? khiyophor's is cold!!! the windows are frosting are frosting over. everyone is shivering. buttons and controls get locked in place. there is a guy who's entire job is to give everyone muttons. it's very cold 👍

in the worst cases there'd even be frost forming around khiyophor but if they've been pushed that far they're half delirious already so that's when the attack is called off!! khiyophor is bedridden for an average of 4-7 days. this is the estimate because it happens often and khiyophor has a weak immune system and some unspecified disability that would have killed them long ago if they haven't been heavily medicated since it surfaced at beldam (spikes and worsens from stress khiyophor just crushes occasionally)

also!! this is in direct contrast to canon!walenty's own insanely strong immune system. χ-04 is sickly frail victorian child core to balance that
