like. we know the green knight and bertilak is one and the same. gawain broke his promise TO lord bertilak by not returning the sash that lady bertilak gave him. thus, bertilak/the green knight would have every reason not to believe in gawain's words and the possibility of gawain fleeing rather than meeting his fate at the green chapel. but, against all odds, gawain upholds his vow with the green knight and there he is......and...

#this is why the green knight spares gawain. bc. even though he didn't uphold #his promise to bertilak he upheld his promise to the green knight.#and for that............bertilak can excuse gawain's prior deception bc gawain is still walking to his death #<- that and also the fact that gawain gets KNICKED with the sash on meaning that the sash does not actually in fact #'protect' one against all physical attacks like the lady claimed.#it's the fact that gawain lied and deceived — but gawain still showed UP. and for that. not only #does gawain keep his head. but. he is still honorable......#ellian's sgatgk lb
