The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh

A Korean-folklore-inspired fantasy about a girl who tries to save her brother from being scarified to the sea god, only to tumble down beneath the waves into a strange world of spirits and monsters. It sounds like a lot of fun, marketing material compares it to Spirited Away, and some early reviews say it’s really charming!

The Honeys by Ryan La Sala

Genderfluid teenager Mars sets out to solve his twin sister’s murder, which leads him to a cult of picture-perfect popular girls who may or may not worship bees. It sounds like a bonkers queer YA Wicker Man, and Ryan La Sala is really funny on Twitter, so I’m keen on checking this one out at some point!

Lakelore by Anna-Marie McLemore

Local legend tells there’s an otherworldly space beneath the lake, a secret world of half air and half water-- but Bastián Silvano and Lore Garcia are the only ones who’ve been there. I love McLemore’s writing style so much (I want to catch up on their older books this year too) so I’m really excited to see what they bring to this new magical realism story. They seem to love playing with fairy tales, so I wonder if this will have some Little Mermaid elements...

Goes without saying--I’m hooked on The Locked Tomb series and I need to know what the heck is going to happen next!! 

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

The artfully-told tale of a guy in an impossible house. I loved Strange and Norrel, Susanna Clarke’s previous book, and while I hear this is very different the theme intrigues me and I feel like it would be great inspiration!

I’m taking two senior capstones this semester, which means two major original research projects (plus my other classwork). So my AO3 publishing history doesn’t show it, but I’m on my second desperate hyperfixation of the semester (Jujutsu Kaisen) and I’ve been prolific, though god knows how many of these I’ll publish in the end.

These are posted in order of most recent first, and names are “working titles from my gdocs” for the most part, based off of the songs I was listening to when I wrote them.

fandoms you write for: I am pretty much an adventure zone balance horse and i have not managed to be able to switch any other settings lol.

where you post: mmm... here for short stuff, and also AO3 for that and everything else.

most popular one shot: I am assuming that one shot means “not multichapter and not part of a series” so that would make it The Red String of Fate which was my first piece of smut and I actually still like it a lot.  Followed closely by A Good Boy which... yeah okay I’ve got a Brand.

most popular multi chapter story:  I think I had forgotten I would always love you is just gonna forever dominate as my most popular work and you know what?  I’m okay with that.  Cartography is the next closest one and it only has a third of the kudos.  But IHFIWALY is just so... sweet.  It’s so sweet.  I don’t blame people for loving it.  I love it too.  Also it’s hard to tell because it’s a series and not a single fic but I imagine the A Cold Glow and a Warm Body series is also pretty high up there, because the individual pieces are all really popular.

favorite story you’ve written: If we’re talking about “fic i had the most fun with” then we’ll have to go with the still in progress Wizards and Woodsmen, Beauties and Beast.  If we’re going with “fic i go back and reread the most” I’m sorry to say but it’s probably Send Nudes, Big Guy (OwO).  Oh, or End over End, I reread that one a fucking lot.  I really like that one actually so let’s go with that one first.

story you were nervous to post: I’m literally nervous to post everything I don’t know if you know this but I am 75% anxiety.  I know that Red String I posted at like 4am because I thought I would chicken out if I didn’t post it right that second and then force myself to go to bed so I couldn’t immediately delete it, and I just had to hope someone would comment on it that they liked it so then I couldn’t take it down (someone did).  I was also really nervous when I wrote A Good Boy cause it was something that people were hoping I would write (trans magnus) and I didn’t want to mess it up.

do you outline: uuuuuuuuh no.  I should.  I tried.  My brain is not meant to think that way.  I usually plan things ahead about one chapter in advance, but it’s not like... I don’t write anything down, I just hold onto it and ride the wave.  And reread the entire fic over every time I start a new chapter because I am That Person.

how many of your stories are complete: I have 28 fics, and only two of them (Wizards and Woodsmen, and Topography) are the only two that don’t have endings.  Wizards and Woodsmen hopefully will have an ending soon, but Topography... man I don’t know.  I liked it but it honestly hurt to write Taako;s past.  The chapters with Lup tho I really love.  The one where Taako cuts his own hair as a kid is A Favorite.

how many of your stories are in progress: dfghjdkjfsdfklsdjf I mean Wizards and Woodsmen is the only thing I’m actively working on.  It’s taken up so much brainspace I literally have been unable to write anything else.

coming soon: last chapter(s) of Woodsmen, and then I AM TOTALLY GOING TO DO THE SEQUEL TO SEND NUDES FOR SERIOUS.  I REALLY WANT TO AND I REALLY LOVE THAT FIC I JUST KEEP GETTING... DISTRACTED.  WITH BEASTLY RELATED SHENANIGANS.  I REALLY LOVE LOOKING UP DUMB EMOTICONS FOR TAAKO TO USE WHILE SEXTING.  IT’S IMPORTANT.  HE USES A COWBOY ONE IN THE LITTLE BIT OF THE FIC I HAVE WRITTEN.

upcoming story you’re most excited to write: I really can’t wait to be done with Wizards and Woodsmen, I need to have it done before January because I really do not want “spent two years writing a single fan fiction” to be a label I have.  And I am really excited to write some smut again lol.  That’s about as far as my brain will let me work right now.  OH I WANT TO WRITE SMALL TOWN AU I’M STILL TRYING TO COME UP WITH A GOOD TITLE BUT I JUST WANT TO WRITE CUTE SLICE OF LIFE STUFF.  I’m also kinda loving the Dadnus AU I came up with where Magnus is a surrogate for Kravitz and Taako, but that’s a weirdly specific AU for my weirdly specific needs so who knows.
