spring 2020: thoughts
stuff this season i’ve finished:
tower of god. mainly watched this to see what the hype was about. the story has an odd push-and-pull kind of flow? like the plot will progress, then go back a bit, then progress etc. the build-up was quite slow and i’ll admit my interest went a different direction halfway, but personally it’s something i’d prefer to read rather than watch. i quite like the rough lines for the art style though!
kakushigoto. hilarious, relatable and utterly gut-wrenching all in one episode x 12. plus the visuals for the opening were gorgeous, look at all those colors. if anything i kinda wish they’d split the story of ep 12 into 2 episodes (they dropped a lot of bombs in the span of 23 mins) or at least given some of those bombs to the end scenes of other episodes, but ultimately i liked how it eventually played out. oh my heart is tender
kaguya sama: love is war s2. it’s kaguya-sama, what else can i say :p our cast are more erratic than before, and damn if that rooftop scene with the moon didn’t tug at my heartstrings. also! miko is here! she adds a super fun dynamic to the council and balances all the chaos out. the op was my jam the entire season ngl
nami yo kiitekure / wave, listen to me! probably my biggest surprise of the season because i did not expect to like this one a lot. the anime format works super well because the seiyuus added the extra charm to the radio cast. sugiyama riho did extremely well as the prattling protag! it’s got a bit of heart too, and i love how extra the animation sometimes gets during the “fictional” stories
hamefura / bakarina / my next life as a villainess. (because the original title is too long, rip) yassss i am so glad they made this into an anime, and fingers crossed they’ll pick up more shoujo isekai series to adapt! everything was adorable and fun, and alan and mary were done so well (yes i’m biased). say what you want about anime!jeord, i found him to be such an unrestrained riot it’s hilarious. also, season 2! can’t believe i get to see my fav boys animated ;;;
honzuki no gekokujou / ascendance of a bookworm cour2. now we get in-depth with myne’s life at the temple and the worldbuilding has extended to the nobility, which is a whole new ballgame. if you’ve been to this blog before, you’ll know i had... things to say about certain parts but ultimately it was a fine adaption! plus season 3 baby, i’m ready for the drama
bna: brand new animal. brilliant. i mean, it’s studio trigger. the animation is captivating, the ost is phenomenal, and the characters are big fun. shirou is Big Dad Energy and i too will protect michiru with my life. the problems were resolved in typical studio trigger fashion (dramatic, flashy, and intense), the build-up to the showdown was an intense ride. i particularly liked the bits that showcased the beastmen around in the city! rabbit town, baseball, pingu, etc
ongoing (mostly postponed): fugou keiji: balance unlimited, toaru kagaku no railgun t, bungou to alchemist, appare-ranman!, bessatsu olympia kyklos, fruits basket, arte (haven’t really finished it yet)
as a side note: most of this season’s opening songs are bangers. even now i can’t get tenbin -libra- (shironeko project, which i kinda forgot about oops) out of my head
