Thoughts on Jacob Brent basically making Munk, Tugger, and Misto siblings...?

Okay yeah thank you for this question actually

My thoughts are that I don’t think he explicitly said that they were all siblings in particular, the only thing he said was that Old Deuteronomy is Mistoffelees’ dad, which by itself, okay, wouldn’t have been my interpretation but that’s probably what the director’s told him. And it’s cute! They’re both magic, whateva

But that mixed with our interpretation of Munk and Tugger being siblings and Old D being their dad puts the tuggoffelees shippers in some interesting waters. I’m just gonna say right now that I do not ship incest and when I’m out here shipping tuggoffelees as I do, it is not, never has been, and never will be in context of them being siblings.

I think there’s a few ways to look at it that are all pretty valid

1. Munk and tugger are siblings, Old D is their dad, and Misto is not related

2. Old D is Misto’s dad and Munk and Tugger aren’t related (but maybe they’re siblings still)

3. Munk and Misto are siblings, Old D is their dad, and tugger isn’t related

4. All three of them are siblings, Old D is their dad, and Tugger and Misto are not romantically involved

It’s never explicitly stated that Old D is the father of Munk and Tugger, that’s just a really widely accepted interpretation I believe, and I think that Jacob Brent’s commentary adds an interesting background I didn’t really think about before

At the end of the day, ALW really intended Cats to be interpreted by the audience, and it doesn’t really matter what the actors have been told or have to say about it. I’m sure if we asked Ricky Ubeda, or any Misto’s from other countries they’d all have different things to say, and that’s what makes Cats fun!

On a bigger topic, why I think people ship irl people (as weird and creepy as it sounds) is because maybe (usually) people don’t have those kinds of interactions or relationships irl.

Seeing people have successful (at least on screen) relationship of what WE desire is pleasing. Whether it’s platonic or romantic, it’s like “aw they’re so cute, I wish I had someone that close to me :(“ at least that’s how I deal with/interpret this.

FoR exampLe: in many fanfiction tropes, the two charcaters start out not liking eachother, to friends, to lovers. You’ve heard it a million times, I know.

The idea of that dramatic ass trope is appealing cause we like the idea of conflict then resolution. So basically a story.

Im gettin there: my point iS- if it’s not hurting anybody, then it’s fine. (Of course Kaylee, duH!) If the people involved in the shipping have expressed deep remorse for the content mAde of them, then keep it to yourself. *cough* septiplier *cough*

I’m pretty sure, (u can prove me wrong btw, message me, whateva,) that Matt and Ryan have expressed that yes, it’s weird, but go ahead. In earlier podcasts, Matt had said “PLS DONT DRAW PORN OF ME AND RYAN,” but if I remember correctly in a later podcast something among the lines of:

“Don’t get the shippers started. YOU FREAKS. Nah jk, have fun.”

Again, THIS IS NOT VERBATEM, AND IF IM WRONG IN ANYWAY (which I know I am in SOME way,) LET ME KNOW!!! Thanks!

All in all, I’m tired of seeing people shaming other people for even remotely being like “oh yeah Matt and Ryan would be cute together.” If u don’t like it, don’t look at it
