--- kagemori and rebirth

While I am uncertain what ending I foresee for Kagemori, I still want to discuss the possible endings I can see as a rounding out of his character and Robin's story coming to a close post-climax.

As a refresher, what solid canon I have is that Kagemori was a young human male who was transformed by a ritual gone wrong done by a cult member who worshipped the Dark One. The ritual was meant to make the boy into a vessel for the Dark One to return, but the father had not realized that the spirit was trapped still in the Lost Woods within the demon mask and could not escape into the mortal realm yet. Due to this, Kagemori corrupted and was swallowed whole by the Lost Woods.

For decades, he would wander, finding only fleeting companionship in the yokai who for whatever reason revered him like a Master. With no memories of his old life or his death, Kagemori pushed aside the treatment, feeling deep down he was being tricked.

He would come to meet Robin during her darkest hour, inspiring her to live if only to keep part of his shattered soul safe. When his connection to the Dark One and yokai was revealed by Ashireiko, the kitsune, a rift was formed between himself and Robin.

It's through understanding her destiny and connection to the Kobayashi clan that allows Robin to see that Kagemori is just a victim of prophecy as much as she is. They reconnect and seek out the Sun Village together, ultimately ending with Robin's kagura ritual purifying Kagemori and dissolving him into nothingness. This sacrifice allows Robin the ability to purify and seal away the Dark One completely.

What I don't have set down for canon yet is whether or not Kagemori returns. If he is truly alive, purified to a kami that can be by Robin's side in her newfound eternal guardianship of the world and its light. And if he does survive, what kami does he emulate?

My first idea was to connect him to Tsukuyomi- the kami of the moon who is both Amaterasu's brother and husband (I know, ew, but Kagemori is *not* related to Robin like that.) Kagemori's dark heart and rage becomes purified by the light of the sun, reflecting it back as love for Robin.

The second idea was be his rebirth as a god of luck AND darkness, like Daikokuten, who also connects in some myths as Ōkuninushi, Susano'o's descendant and god of fortune and agriculture.

The third was to have him mirror Konohanasakuya-hime, have him become a sapling/tree spirit that Robin nurtures back to health with her faith and love, sort of like a cherry blossom storm that her ancestor flourished.

Or is it more depressing and like old myths that Robin would be stuck as a kami after her ritual and alone, stuck among the heavens and earth all because that was what fate and the kami decreed...?
