"Heh. Ridiculous." Says the man in the fancy greek-inspired outfit, looking at magic spells and wizardry like it defied any sort of logic that he had been taught from his may universities with his many, many degrees. At least the power systems and elements of other worlds in the galaxy held more grounded lore than this. "Promises, in it of itself, are simply just words thrown together on a whim of an emotional instance that makes you swear some sort of loyalty to some sort of other emotion or being right in front of you, as a means towards an end goal. Whether that is love or hate, a cause or a simple act, and anything in between - yet, many people across many worlds break promises all the time, even unknowingly, as promises are merely just a spoken pact that you can not keep so simply, not a legally binding contract that makes you die instantly if things don't go exactly to how they must. It's ridiculous; absurd; poppycock." Says the intelligent man that just doesn't want to accept being spirited away to such a different and new reality.
They couldn't say they liked him. It's reminiscent of an almost nostalgic memory of their first arrival to this world, don't trust the wizards, and more so of some days after that, it's the wizards fault. Fear that turned into malice and a disaster only they could prevent, they understood the reasons why, no matter how unfair they thought it to be. However, this man shouldn't have those biases. Didn't have those biases. What he had instead was a closed-off heart, waving off not only their world but also their feelings in something shaped like arrogance.
They would like to like him. After all, he wouldn't be the first person their relation started off shaky with, and suddenly loosing your footing and home was terrifying. It might just be a reaction in retaliation. But...that didn't mean they had to excuse it.
"...Where I come from breaking promises doesn't mean losing something", they don't add 'either', their heart unable to agree with his worldview. "But, I think, making a promise with a friend, no matter how small, and breaking it wears down your heart", however, that wasn't here nor there in this conversation, regardless of how their personal views had started to change after meeting everyone. "It's different for them. The wizards here use magic with their heart, if they promise their love to someone that promise remains true as long as they feel so in their heart, even if they were to marry someone else. Words are important to them, that's why they won't make promises on a whim. It might be difficult for you and I to understand, but please don't force those feelings upon them. This is their world."
Even if he couldn't come to accept it, that was their wish. A wizard doesn't make promises, because if they break it they lose their magic. Of course they had found it difficult to understand, seeing magic itself was still unbelievable. It was a bit scary, and exciting, and more than anything they hoped that he too would come to fall in love with this world, if only a little.
