the thing about venti is that he doesn't embody freedom so much as he nurtures it. venti is who he is today because the people taught him to love and he returned that tenfold. the people were the first to teach him autonomy and freedom, and his response is to protect that ideal

I just really love mondstadt's relationship with their "absentee" archon a lot. there's something almost poetic about how just by being themselves, they sort of "created" their own god. a wind wisp became their archon by observing and living with them (ofc I'm oversimplifying it)

as described in freedom sworn, it's the anemo archon who actually takes on his region's characteristics, not the other way around. it is not that mondstadt is the nation of freedom because of venti, but that venti is the god of freedom because of mondstadt. and now you have that same archon asking what I will argue is actually the best quote of genshin, "what is freedom when demanded of you by a god?"

i've been thinking about venti raising a child that was entrusted to him by one of the hexenzirkel (specifically imagining the child being nicole's), perhaps. i think i'll pursue it as an oc idea more than a reader insert one, but i just can't stop thinking about him stumbling awkwardly through fatherhood because What The Fuck. he is literally a spirit of the wind and he has to raise a HUMAN (....more or less)? DUDE. WHAT THE FUCKKKK. plus he's also the god of freedom, so... he's raising this child in a very odd way. involved but only to an extent.

probably more involved than their mom, at least 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

venti has a HUGE regression range. usually he’ll stick in the 6–10 range, but he’s been known to go older or younger (more often younger).

i’ll define ‘baby’ as 0–3 for convenience. anyway!!!

when venti regresses young, it’s usually because he’s feeling something very, very intense. whether it be exhaustion, excitement, stress, or just the effects of too much dandelion wine, being emotionally and mentally overwhelmed is a one-way ticket to tiny town.

because of this, he inadvertently regresses a lot around diluc, who’s taken on the role of caregiver/damage control, because venti is a menace. a very cute menace, but a menace all the same. and diluc may also be a menace, but at least he’s a relatively responsible adult.

as you’d expect, he LOVES nursery rhymes and music boxes. even if he’s too tiny to move a lot, play some music and he’s doing a lil dance. he gets suuuuper giggly too, he’ll hear springy music and burst into laughter and it’s the cutest darn thing you’ve ever seen.

he loves being pulled around in a wagon. this is me projecting, but he ABSOLUTELY likes being in wagons. it’s just really fun!! you can feel the breeze on your face and watch the world go by, and fittingly, it feels freeing.

venti canonically changes his form sometimes. so if he can do that, he’ll probably shrink himself down if he’s regressing alone or with people who are aware of his identity. which—lucky him, that probably feels so safe!! being tiny and being held in someone’s arms is probably wonderful.

he has no self preservation whatsoever when he’s tiny. the number of cats he tries to pet is astronomical, on par with the number of allergic reactions he’s had to said cats. when he’s big, he knows better, but small? nope! cat petting time, right now, no matter the cost!!

he has a tiny piano that diluc gave him. he’s too clumsy to get the notes right when he’s in babyspace, but it still delights him to plonk out little tunes.

SUPER vocal baby. if he can talk, he's talking nonstop. if he can't, there's not a moment he isn't babbling or cooing or otherwise making a mild ruckus. nothing in the world delights him more than when the grown-ups respond to his babbling like it's a serious conversation.

when venti is small, he is not allowed around klee, because the combined chaos that they create and the way they enable each other are both far too dangerous. that stops neither of them. they play high-risk tag when venti's big enough and klee reads stories to him and puts on plushie puppet shows when he isn't, much to his delight. she's decided it's her responsibility to ensure he is okay and happy, because he always makes people happy when he's big and she wants to do the same.

venti is a serious cuddler. if there is someone nearby, they are getting a cuddle attack. he will drape himself over the nearest person, uncaring of who that person is, and this has been...not very good, in the past. fortunately, the knights of favonius watch him like a hawk, so he's never gotten hurt.

I mentioned this before, but please consider the idea of venti as a dionysian figure once again. dionysus being associated with wine, liberation/freedom, and death and rebirth, much like how venti himself is the god of wine, liberation/freedom, and is an actual psychopomp (stanley quest; many descriptions of the wind as something that can carry souls or lead one to a final resting place), but in the sense that he is also a memory escort. but what is death in genshin but a reset of memories? "death is just a one-time loss of memory" (aranaga)

plus the favonius church inspired by catholicism and (orphic) dionysus as a proto-jesus figure

ALTERNATIVELY he's hermes/pan. but I really wanted mika to be a hermes figure though

wind swirled around him like a raging vortex. amidst the cloudy skies, a clearing opened up, expanding to reveal the clear blue sky. in the patch of blue that appeared, a bright light flew into sight, glimmering in shimmering gold as it grew closer. a pokemon presented themselves, large and regal as they flapped their wings in front of what appeared to be a young boy. the boy cupped a hand over his eyes, looking up at this magnificent bird in awe as they got close enough for the boy to brush his hands down their feathers. the bird chuffed in response. those feathers were unbearly soft, and the boy could not help how he spent the next few hours preening those golden feathers while he hummed a little tune. / template

ho-oh was not the first companion that venti had encountered, but their bond had become so strong that venti could not imagine continuing on his travels without his bird companion. it would only be later on that venti learns that there is no other pokemon like ho-oh.
