Something . . . something . . . while Daenerys will typically answer to all of her titles, she does not particularly enjoy being directly referred to as Azor Ahai or even Azor Ahai Reborn. There is a difference between "I have come to serve you, Azor Ahai" and "There, mounted on dragonback, sits Azor Ahai." Why doesn't she fully embrace being called Azor Ahai? Because it is a full name and was a full identity that existed before her ; thus, Azor Ahai represents an entirely different person. Now, this is not to say that she does not recognize herself as the subject of the prophecy when the revelation/process of reflecting and accepting comes. She just does not wish to usurp the legacy that this hero has/had, nor does she wish to eclipse her own name and legacy. She has worked hard and accomplished great feats to earn most of her titles. There is something about the simple fact of being born and having an entitlement to the name of a great hero that does not sit well with her, which relates to direct vs. indirect references to her as Azor Ahai/Azor Ahai Reborn. She, as Daenerys, wants to live up to the title, but she does not wish to overshadow it by taking on the name directly, nor does she wish to be overshadowed by its grandeur. It is out of respect. Also, Dany doesn't want any ideas floating around about how she's Azor Ahai's literal reincarnation ( because she is not ). But also, Azor Ahai/Azor Ahai Reborn are used so interchangably with the Prince That Was Promised, and that particular prophecy is so deeply tied to the Targaryens. She just vibes with it more.

Best Targ Women ! Needed to make my ranking for some reason.
1) Daenerys Targaryen (best girl ever may she live and prosper). She's every goddess ever.
2) Rhaena Targaryen (black bride) : iconic reserved lesbian who goes out of her mind sometimes in really impressive ways. Compares herself to the woman who ruined her life. Has tons of girlfriends (goals). Dies probably sad, almost alone. Hates most of her family anyways.
3) Rhaenyra Targaryen : So perfect in her imperfections. Loving mother, unquestionable heir to the Iron Throne, privileges gone to her head, political disaster in many aspects. Hate her, love her, she can't really leave you indifferent.
4) Aerea Targaryen : first female Targ heir, absolute teenage chaos on two foot intent on making the world a hell for those she disliked. Is living under the name of her twin sister (who lives under hers), which identity wise must be real weird for a kid. Horrifying death that will give you nightmares.
5) Elaena Targaryen : I need to know everything about her life it's criminal we don't. But she was the boss & controlled the economy. She was hot at 70.
6) Daena Targaryen : I need to know everything about her life like seriously (2). Rebellion ! Her brazen legacy haunted house Targaryen forever. Still does.
7) Alysanne Targaryen : She's not perfect, but she did a hell of a lot for Westeros and women, and stood by her principles (equality for women in matters of inheritance and education).
8) Naerys Targaryen : She just has something special. A magnificent aura of doom & religion.
9) Visenya Targaryen : love hate relationship with Visenya. She's so interesting but also she wrecked the life of my best girl Rhaena & raised her son to be a psycho tyrant misogynist (which is a great part of why she's interesting cause like WTF girl).
10) Rhaena of Pentos : cute cute cute girl. Has a pink dragon she probably named either by watching the sun rises or to make a clever metaphor (it is a clever metaphor !). Has a sense of duty. Is the opposite of her brazen twin Baela. Last dragonrider till Daenerys.
Plus, Targaryen women with potential (but not much action/info on them) :
- Aelora Targaryen whose story just begs to be told in full. Cause like, accidentelly killing your brother ? Being heir to the Iron throne afterwards anyway ? Damn.
- Jaehaera Targaryen, as the neurodivergent and ironically female heir of the famously misogynistic faction of the Dance of Dragons. Like come on.
- Baela Targaryen : Okay we do know about her and her character I just couldn't fit her in the top ; I'm mainly interested in the hypothetical/headcanon dilemna she could have had in the Velaryon succession matter. Mainly between being legally the heir to Driftmark & by it possibly independant (which suits her character), and her betrothal & fondness towards Jace (and future as queen consort). Along that of course, thoughts over women's rights & bastards' place.
- Rhaella Targaryen (sister to Aerea) cause like inside on the faith + similar identity crisis worthy situation. Like technically the legitimate heir to the throne during Jaehaerys' reign.
- Daenys the Dreamer : like OF COURSE. I have headcanons. Of course I want to know more about her prophecies & her character. Or make it all up if I can't have it.
- Shiera Seastar ; I mean we don't actually know that much about the lady. She was witchy and liked by Bloodraven. Then what ? Then what. She was maybe the Westerosi Elizabeth Báthory. Then what.
- Daenerys of Dorne : really want to know what her time in Dorne was like. After all, her marriage was of historical proportions and she's implied to have had some good notions in ruling. Also how did she feel about the Blackfyre rebellion ?
- Helaena Targaryen : I do like making up headcanon about her lately. Gentle, spineless, lonely, crazy, crazed for life but kept inside a cage. Betrayed her sister, under difficult circumstances. But where they ever sisters in any real sense ?

Hey thanks for making such a cool blog! I use your post that lists the lgbt characters in asoiaf for reference a lot and was wondering if any characters could be added with the release of Fire and Blood
Thanks so much, I’m glad you enjoy that list! So, cut for F&B spoilers…
First of all there’s Rhaena Targaryen (eldest daughter of Aenys) and her many girlfriends/favorites, including Elissa Farman and Larissa Velaryon. Rhaena and Larissa were both married to men and had children, but I’m not certain that means they’re bisexual rather than lesbian, just that they were in a very regimented culture where marriage and children are not something most highborn women can just opt out of. (Especially a princess like Rhaena.) And Rhaena’s first husband was her beloved brother, her second was a forced marriage, and the third was most definitely only a beard, so I personally think lesbian more likely (with societal comphet).
Princess Saera Targaryen (daughter of Jaehaerys I) taught her “favorites” Alys Turnberry and Perianne Moore how to kiss, and then one day they started kissing while naked (which was “scary but exciting” per Alys), and they “took turns pretending [they] were boys” before eventually inviting Saera’s male favorites (Braxton Beesbury, Roy Connington, Jonah Mooton) into their sexual games. When the scandal eventually broke out, it didn’t end well for anyone in particular alas. (Well, Saera at least was happy, on her own terms.)
Jeyne Arryn, the ruling lady of the Vale during the Dance of the Dragons, was called “the Maiden of the Vale” as she never married. She had a “dear companion”, Jessamyn Redfort, and when she died, it was “wrapped in her arms”.
Laenor Velaryon, and his companions Joffrey Lonmouth and Qarl Correy, are in F&B, but there’s nothing new about them that wasn’t in TWOIAF or the history novellas. Other characters from those stories include Essie and Sylvenna Sand, but nothing new about them besides their deaths, unfortunately. Oh, and there’s Sabitha Vypren, who does a lot more in F&B, but there’s not much new about her sexuality – just a rumor that Alysanne Blackwood was her lover, as they shared a tent while on the march, but Black Aly’s courtship with Cregan Stark does seem to show she preferred men. (And frankly if I were a woman commander of a male army I’d rather share a tent with another woman commander than trust in what might happen or be rumored if I were on my own.) Though I suppose it’s possible Aly was bisexual, we shouldn’t really rule that out.
Speaking of bisexuality, this isn’t new information (as it was in TRP), but I should reiterate that Rhaenyra Targaryen became “fond and more than fond” of her cousin/aunt-in-law Laena Velaryon when she and Daemon Targaryen lived nearby, and they frequently raced on their dragons between Driftmark and Dragonstone. Dragonriding has always been a metaphor for sex (see Dany’s first flight; see Rhaena taking her girlfriends on dragon rides but never her husband Androw), so it’s very probable there was some sort of polycule going on there.  (See also the fact that Syrax was producing multiple clutches of eggs during this time, and it might be that the “male” parent wasn’t just Caraxes, but also Vhagar.)
Rumors were spread about “the three Jeynes”, Jeyne Smallwood, Jeyne Mooton, and Jeyne Merryweather, young noblewomen in King’s Landing to attend the Maiden’s Day Ball of 133 AC (to be a potential bride for Aegon III Targaryen) – that they “liked to dress in squire’s garb and visit the brothels along the Street of Silk, to kiss and fondle the women there as if the three of them were boys.” Whether these rumors were true or not is unknown.
And last but not least, there’s the rogue Tyroshi pirate Racallio Ryndoon, King of the Stepstones… around whom swirled many rumors, not in the least that he sometimes dressed as a woman and “played the whore”. This may have been a fetish thing rather than transgender identity, though, as he also liked to be beaten by his wives. Still, his enemies often called him “Queen Racallio”, so… um, I think that’s the best we can expect from Gyldayn/GRRM.
Anyway, I think that’s it. Though if anyone notices I’ve missed anyone, please let me know!

Female Dragonriders in Westeros
Visenya Targaryen - Older sister of Aegon the Conqueror, wore mail and wielded the Valyrian steel blade “Dark Sister.” Mother to Maegor I Targaryen. Rider of Vhagar.
Rhaenys Targaryen - Younger sister of Aegon the Conqueror, loved music and stories, conventionally beautiful. Mother to Aenys I Targaryen. Rode and died on Meraxes.
Rhaena Targaryen - Oldest child of Aenys I Targaryen, wife of Aegon the Uncrowned, “Black Bride” to Maegor the Cruel. Totally gay. Rode the dragon Dreamfyre, who birthed Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon eggs.
Alysanne Targaryen - Fifth child of Aenys I Targaryen and wife of Jaehaerys Targaryen. She was called the “Good Queen” who helped her husband rule well for many years. Ventured as far as the Wall on her dragon Silverwing.
Aerea Targaryen - Willful child of Rhaena Targaryen. In fight with her mother, mounted Balerion (”the Black Dread”) and disappeared. Was gone for a year before she returned deathly ill. Apparently could not control the dragon. (Thus you may dispute her status as a dragonrider, but Balerion didn’t kill her so... I kept her on the list.)
Rhaenys Targaryen - Called “The Queen that Never Was.” She was the oldest child of Aemon Tararyen and Jocelyn Baratheon. Aemon was the oldest son of Jaehaerys and Alysanne, and there was some question as to her right to rule, but a Council was gathered and chose Viserys I Targaryen instead. (Fuck the Patriarchy!) Married Corlys Velaryon. She rode a dragon named Meleys and nicknamed “The Red Queen.” Rhaenys died fighting during the Dance with Dragons, where it took two other dragons to bring her down.
Laena Velaryon - Daughter of the Queen That Never Was. She rode Vhagar the last surviving dragon of Aegon’s Conquest. Later she married Prince Daemon Targaryen and became mother of Baela and Rhaena (see below). She died due to complications of childbirth (the baby did not survive) and was found trying to reach Vhagar so she could fly one last time.
Rhaenyra Targaryen - Oldest child and heir to Viserys I Targaryen. “Darling of the Realm” and “Half-Year Queen.” Was blocked from taking the Iron Throne by her younger half-brother, Aegon II Targaryen. The war between them was called “The Dance of Dragons.” She rode the dragon Syrax.
Helaena Targaryen - Wife and sister of Aegon II Targaryen. Was forced by cutthroats to chose one of her sons to die, only to have them kill the one she didn’t chose. Locked herself in Maegor’s Holdfast until she flung herself (or was pushed?) from a window. Before all that drama, she rode Dreamfyre the same dragon mentioned above.
Nettles - Called “Netty.” During the Dance, anyone who could successfully mount a dragon was rewarded. Nettles, a lowborn whore’s daughter, wooed a wild dragon called Sheepstealer by feeding him. Accused of traitorously sleeping with her husband by Rhaenyra Targaryen. Netty flew off on Sheepstealer never to be seen again. (Fic! The Adventures of Netty!)
Jaehaera Targaryen - Daughter of Aegon II and Helaena. She bonded to the hatchling Morghul who was not yet large enough to ride when he was killed in the storming of he Dragonpit by angry Kingslanders.
Baela Targaryen - Bonded to Moondancer and successfully fought and defeated Sunfyre the dragon of Aegon II Targaryen, despite being barely large enough to ride. Moondancer was killed, Sunfyre never flew again; but Baela survived.
Rhaena Targaryen - Sister of Baela. Bonded to Morning who was hatched in the Vale of Arryn. Died during the reign of Aegon III, the Dragonbane.
