Mariana was excited to eat all the yummy desserts while she walked around the garden. She was sure she'd inhale them the moment Liza handed them over though. "They honestly look so good, as they normally do Liza. I don't know what you put in your desserts, but keep doing it." She had to pay her respects because any time that Mari tried to bake - it was either too much salt or not enough of something. Buying was just better for her.

She hadn't realized how long the months had passed. Mari swore she had heard about the baby about two weeks ago, but time didn't stop for anyone. "Aw, that's so sweet to watch I'm sure." She admired women who went through motherhood. "I'm sure it's been a whirlwind watching her grow every day now." She mused. @thelizaxlevin

Liza's smile just stayed on her face as she realized who it was that'd caught her eating. Her and her sister used to binge watch plenty of reality tv shows over the years, so it was always a pleasant surprise to see Mariana around. "They're my favorite creation this year, so good choice." She told her with a nod, moving to get one of her longer to-go boxes for the macarons and carefully piling them in before getting a second one for a slice of tart, her smile just growing at being questioned about Elise.

"She's wonderful. She turned six months a few weeks ago. She's just about mastered sitting up so now it's only a small matter of time before she gets the hang of crawling and then we're doomed." She joked.

In the days leading up, Ella had worried the edge of the paper so much, it had grown soft and fibrous. There was a hole right in the middle, where the creases from the folds met. Still, she felt calmer now, more at peace than she had since she’d texted Logan. These drawings were precious to her, yes. But if anyone would understand, it was someone who had known her for so long. Someone who knew...well, maybe not everything she went through, but certainly more than most people in her life. Logan would understand what this meant to her.

Ella had been to the shop more than a few times; she was perfectly comfortable there. The bell above the door rang lightly as she entered, though she announced her presence with an additional, “Hello?” as she walked in. Logan had offered to see her right at the end of the day, but she knew he was always booked up, so if he was with a client, it might be a moment.

Ella made herself comfortable in the lobby, though she didn’t have to wait long before she heard footsteps behind her. She turned slowly, rooting through her bag for a moment before looking up to greet him. “I didn’t want to bring anything that would be heavy to carry home, so I just have bread.” She held the small loaf out, offering it toward Logan with a smile. “I hope that’s okay.”

half-a-heart-beat in difference, notes not quite meeting the pitch, dance too made of frippery and they could feel the extra missing beat, 3/4 instead of 2/4 and that gap ached like a missing tooth. minimal beat but the unfinished phrase lingered in their head and the drums needed something more feral and sun-baked.

eleanor had played something after the coronation, touches of the blood-splattered stairs, of the cracked and broken crown in their music. not quite ottoman, not quite home, but it was a concept that they’d long learned to shed.

still, the refrains drummed in their fingers, war music begging to spill from their throat once again. part preparation, readiness for what they knew was coming, part a desire to go back home. 

it was driving them mad

that rhythm pulled them forwards, after-thoughts of melodies ghostly memories down the corridors.

so sayf followed, footsteps near-silent drums on stone floors, before stopping infront of the music practice rooms. mostly eleanor’s haunt, and not one that they’d ever had cause to visit before. but here they were, and the silence itself seemed to play music in their ears.

impatience dripping from tense muscles before they concede, something like sticky indulgence causing the corner of their mouth to curl as they step inside, close sound-proof doors behind them.

it takes at least an hour for them to warm up, to remember lyrics and open their lungs and polish off the rust to their voice. another half hour is spent with their eyes closed and the memory of chants, of steel, of drums, for the taste of sand, of dirt, of blood of sweat, and their voice is harsh like ripping steel strings and they are swearing war on this place for all that it stayed the same.

          “ sometimes i still think i’m back in COLLEGE — how different is it, really ?? ”     quite different, actually, but alli’s only paying attention to the similarities. she shifts the container of ice cream in her lap so it’s no longer dripping condensation onto her thighs.     “ me on the couch eating ice cream and pretending to watch things on netflix, YOU all dolled out, trying to get me to put a clean shirt on and go out. ”     there’s no real heat in her words, like she said, this is an ALL too familiar scene in her opinion ( even if going out now is hardly like the RAGERS back in ann arbor ).     “ c’mon, el — ”     brown eyes plead ( in what she suspects is in vain ) with her friend,     “ cut me some slack here. my brain needs ALL hours of the weekend to rest and recover before monday. ”

"Six months?" It was like time had gone by so quick. In her mind, Liza was pregnant just yesterday and now she had an almost 6 month old baby. "I can't believe it, but how exciting. Any signs of crawling yet?" Cami cleared her throat when Liza asked where she had gone. Where she had ran off to. Wording that she hadn't heard in awhile. "I didn't run off. My parents just asked me to come up and help them out." That part was true. "And I got some other things out of the way while I was there." She needed to. It did help absolve the weight she had felt on her shoulders the past three years. "But I'm back for good. Leaving AB is not something I plan to do." @thelizaxlevin

Liza just immediately waved off the apology, shaking her head as she gave her friend a smile, "No, it's okay. I mean, I do know all too well how busy life can get." After all, nothing had ever commandeered her time and her life as a whole like having a baby. Elise came first always. "But just the same it is good to see you back! You've definitely been missed." Liza moved closer then, rounding around to the side of the stroller so she could get closer to her friend, her smile still bright on her face. "I'm good! And so's she." Liza peered inside of the stroller as she spoke, the baby meeting her gaze and giving her a gummy little smile before her attention went back to the flowers and the trees. "She'll be six months in a few weeks, can you believe it?" She grinned as she said it, her eyes down on Elise for a few more moments before she looked back to Cami. "And you? Why'd you run off in the first place, Cam? And better yet, are you back for good?"
