Holly and Poppy O'Hair Headcanons
Holly’s full name is Holly Ivy O’Hair. Poppy’s full name is Poppy Hazel O’Hair. 
Poppy uses she/they pronouns.
The twins were tower-schooled before attending Ever After High. 
Holly is cursed to have all doors that close behind her magically lock her in. She has to keep her dorm room door wedged open. Poppy isn’t completely comfortable with this and prefers the door to be closed, but she lets Holly keep it open a crack. 
Poppy was definitely one of those girls who cut up their dolls’ hair.

Holly is a morning person. Poppy is not. 
Holly is sometimes insecure over having so much hair. She can’t avoid stepping on it, getting it snagged on something, and sometimes dragging on the floor. She envies Poppy for being free to cut her hair.
Multiples run in their family. Their mother is also a twin. She has an older twin brother named Tarragon, but she got the Rapunzel destiny because she was female.
Holly has had a crush on all three Charming siblings at one point or another. 
Poppy was closer with Nanny Nona than Holly. Holly was wild and fidgety, frustrating Nona to no end. Poppy was the calmer of the two and thus got along better with Nona. Holly and Nona still get frustrated with each other from time to time.
Poppy loves spicy foods. She’s almost obsessed with them.
Their music choices differ drastically. Holly likes country pop music. Poppy is more into punk rock. However, they both share the same favorite artist: Dolly Charmton. Poppy plays the song “Midnight to Noon” to get her pumped up in the morning.
Poppy’s a great climber. She sometimes goes beanstalk climbing with Jillian. 
Holly is slightly taller than Poppy. 
Rapunzel and her husband work as the fairytale equivalents of district attorneys. As such, Holly and Poppy don’t get to see their parents very often - especially their mom - and it’s why they were left in the care of Nanny Nona. 
Holly does tutoring in Creative Writing.
Despite working in a literal barbershop, Poppy does not like barbershop music. 
Holly does not do things halfway and always takes the long road. She struggles in areas that don’t interest her, but she’s reluctant to take shortcuts. Her mother drilled into her head that “you can’t climb a tower if your hair is too short.” But Poppy tries encouraging her to “work smarter, not harder”.
Poppy has a thing for “baddies”. She used to have a crush on Sparrow, but got over him quickly when she found out he preferred Holly over her. She also has feelings for Duchess despite knowing she was voted “Most Likely to Steal Your Destiny.” Deep down, she knows it’s a problem.  
Holly theorized Daring wasn’t Apple’s Prince Charming but kept it to herself. The only person she told was Poppy. She was pretty happy when she found out she was right. 
Both sisters are devoted dragon moms.
They’re both very nervous for when their destiny comes to pass. Holly is a bit wary of living a lie; that she’s technically stealing her sister’s destiny. She’s also having some pre-guilt about blinding her future prince. Poppy is doing everything in her power to keep anyone from finding out the truth, because she wants to keep the life she’s been building for herself.

Super Casual Announcement Time
hi hello, it's me p. back again with another super casual announcement.
it's official, it's confirmed. i've done my final pre-surgical consultation. providing i don't do anything a bit silly in the next 7 days (like falling down the stairs again), this time next week (27th march) i will be having top surgery.
so what does that mean for this blog? i assume i'll probably drop off the face of the earth for 3-4 days around then as i suddenly adjust to being titless and fancy free. but knowing me, i'll probably make a vaguely incomprehensible post to inform you all that i'm fine. i'm pretty bad at staying off tumblr when i should be doing tasks.
what does this mean for my writing projects? everything will remain on hiatus / semi-hiatus until i can comfortably sit and write stuff post-surgery. or i'll dump little thoughts out via the mobile app. i haven't really figured it out yet.
how am i feeling? suddenly very nervous and excited! i have developed a mild tremor in my hands whenever i think about having surgery too much and i get the urge to scream very loudly into a pillow. i'm not great with managing big feelings so i tend to bottle everything up. i'm sorry if i come across as flaky or snappy! i don't mean to. my poor swiss cheese brain is yelling "SURGERY! SURGERY! SURGERY!" at increasing volume inside my head.

I am so so so lucky to get to experience this!
Throughout my entire life it has been such an evocative image. VR headsets forcing a person to look in to a spiral. heyy while on the hip hop + rap recommendations subject, ive always been interested but never really known where to start. right now all i listen to is CJ the x, quebrada queer (Brazilian!! super recommend), and definitely putting some more interest in Kendrick Lamar. anyone you'd recommend?
Okay first of all CJ the X is a badass name and second of all I listened to some of his music and I’m definitely getting some Rav vibes! I’d recommend trying a lot of Ravs music but especially listen to ‘Put it Down’ ‘Cinnabar’ and really the entire album ‘Solar Flare’ ! :D
But if you wanna branch out to more rap music then Kendrick lamar is definitely a good start! I suggest listening to the albums I recommended in my last post!! ‘DAMN.’ ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ ‘good kid m.A.A.d. city’ ‘Section.80’ ‘Untitled unmastered’ ect ect. JUST LISTEN TO KENDRICK HES GREAT!!!
Another great artist that I love with all my heart is Danny Brown! His writing is incredible and his beats are so unique! ‘XXX’ was definitely my favourite, but ‘uknowwhatimsayin¿’ ‘The Hybrid’ and ‘Quaranta’ are also amazing and worth listening to! He’s got some weird lyrics but shh just focus on the beat trust me!
I’ve been waiting this whole rant to mention this but if you wanna get into rap PLEASE TRY THE OLDER STUFF!!! 70s-90s!!! There are so many tracks from back then that I’d say still rival the quality of most rap today! One of my favourite albums from back then (which is turning 34 in 2 weeks <3) is ‘Amerikkkas Most Wanted’ By Ice Cube! The storytelling is phenomenal, clear political commentary, amazing yet simple beats, it’s got EVERYTHING a hip hop album should have! It’s everything hip hop should BE! 100% worth listening to, even if you’re not into rap.
I also want to mention this one hip hop group that I absolutely LOVE!!! A Tribe Called Quest! Their music has more of a jazz-y vibe than someone like Ice Cube or Kendrick but nonetheless, still amazing! I’m sure Q-tip and Phife Dawgs unique voices will get you hooked instantly! ‘Midnight Marauders’ and ‘The Low End Theory’ are such incredible albums with every track having a unique beat, yet still keeping the same feel and vibe!
Theres so so so many artists I could go on about for hours, but I’m just gonna keep it short and give you a list of a bunch of pre-2000s songs from my playlist! :)

You didn't think that much into it, though. The last thing you needed was the thought of Handsome Jack actually liking you for more than just your body and easy help. He was ruthless and cared about no one. At least that's what you were always told and assumed.
He sighed back, leaning forward to rest his chin on your chest, staring up at you with a smug expression. It was an awkward angle to stare back down at him, but it made you smile nonetheless. "I think that's what I like about you most." He hummed, "That and the fact that you save me about once a week, and god damn do you fuck really well." He partially joked and you groaned. There he went ruining the moment that you were starting to think was actually really sweet.
"Is that all I am? A toy?" You truly didn't care what the answer would be from the man, you were more so just playing along. But something behind his eyes told you that it struck a chord with him. His brows furrowing together. "Why the hell would you say that?" Well, that wasn't entirely the response you were expecting. Jack leaned back so the both of you were able to look at one another properly.
"Well, you only ever contact me when your bloody and bruised, and then we screw around, and I leave. Sorry, I was just playing around." You confessed, and he shook his head. "Have you ever thought about the fact that a call works both ways? You never call me, I call you for help because it's the only time you'll come and see me. I asked you to come over on three other occasions and each time you said you were busy. You only ever come if I'm dying, I can't believe you think so little of me." He spat, pushing you away from him. This wasn't like him, the sudden emotional change made your heartache. You felt horrible for making him upset. Then again, a part of you expected him to start laughing and point out the look on your face.
He wasn't lying though, he had asked you to come over three other times. Two of those times you assumed was just for sex, but the third time, thinking back on it now with the way he worded it. He did really just want to see you, even if he was drunk and you could tell.
"Jack, I don't think little of you," you tried to reassure him, and he scolded you. "Oh, yet you thought I was just using you as a fuck toy? Yeah, I enjoy it, but that's not who I am. I'm a lot of things, and I've done a lot of sick, idiotic things, but I'm not a user," he frowned, his eyes still focused on you. You could tell he was pissed, betrayed, hurt. You didn't know what you could do to make it up to him, and that's when you saw it. The blood dripping down his mask that made your chest clench in panic.
"Jack, did you hit your head today?" You asked all while leaning forward. "Oh, now you think I hit my head because I'm showing emotions? I'm not a fucking lunatic," he hissed, and you ignored him. Reaching out to touch the face of his mask. Pulling it back to show him the blood on your fingers. "Why are you bleeding from your head, Jack?" You asked with a stern expression. A bit upset he was ignoring the fact that he was still hurt.
"Oh shit," he muttered. Reaching up to touch the blood himself. Slight panic setting into himself. The last thing he needed was a concussion, or something worse. His head did hurt a little, but he didn't think it was that bad. "How many fingers am I holding up?" You asked while holding three fingers up for him. He pouted a bit, "Jack," you stated sternly. "Fine, three." "Good," you hummed, reaching into your bag for a light. "I'm going to shine my light on your eyes to make sure your pupils dilate properly, is that okay?" "Whatever you have to do, doc."
You completed the tests that you had to to make sure he was alright. Though you did suggest he take a concussion test, you knew he wouldn't. He was too stubborn to admit that he had one. Lucky for him you were sure it wasn't too severe if he did have one. "You call me if you start feeling worse, okay Jack?" He sighed as you mothered him. Closing his eyes while you worked on checking the wound through his thick hair. Minus the wound itself, he liked the feeling of you taking care of him. It made him feel normal in a sense. Like you were his loving partner, taking care of him after he got hurt at work, but he knew now that wouldn't be a thing. Or at least he assumed. You seemed to have higher expectations, or at least ones that weren't named Handsome Jack.
"Is it bad?" You shrugged. "Sort of? I suggest taking a shower before I stitch it up." You told him, moving some of his hair that fell onto his forehead. "Can you join me?" You frowned a bit, "Come on, just make sure I don't fall and die. Because if I die, I'm leaving you Hyperion as payback." He quipped, and you let out a groan. He knew you hated working for the place, let alone the thought of owning it. You were a medic, not a business person.
You knew that Jack was playing his games again. The moment the both of you got into the bathroom for him to take a shower he asked if you could join him in it. "As in without any clothes?" "I mean unless you want to shower with clothes on, what are you, crazy?" Jack asked with furrowed brows as he worked at removing his shirt. Turning around so his back was to you to allow you to remove your own clothes. Which did shock you a little. It did give you the chance to look over his back wound though. It was healing up nicely, just as you presumed.
"Alright," You hummed, opening the door so he could step in, you following after. Shutting the door behind the both of you.
The whole shower was quiet, besides the water that echoed in your ears. A nonstop stream that was almost comforting. His eyes were either on your face or the wall behind you the whole time while you helped him clean his hair and body. Giving you the opportunity to make sure he had no other marks hiding from you.
"Thank you," you froze up. God, you were sure you were wrong and this man had the worse concussion you had ever seen before. First, he practically told you he had feelings for you, and now he was thanking you? After nearly eight months of you helping him out like this? "You're welcome." You didn't question it, it was nice having him thank you for your service for once. You did practically do all of it for free. It was the least he could do, even if he was technically your boss.
It wasn't long before the both of you were exiting the shower. Drying off and changing. Jack had a spare set of clothes for you. Most of the time it was the clothes that you left behind, but this time it was clothes you had never seen before. "Are they your size? I picked them out myself. It's an apology for ripping your shirt last time." He told you with a smug grin. He was still proud of that, but you didn't even have the time to be mad at him. They were your size, and the fabric was the type that you liked and that didn't bother your skin. "Yeah, these are great, thank you, Jack." You smiled back at him, and he nodded. Pulling his shirt back over his head after tugging his pants up his legs.
"See, I'm not so unthoughtful, am I?" He asked with a brow raised, sitting on the edge of his bed while watching you head back into the other room after getting changed. He knew you were just grabbing your supplies to bring them in there. He trusted you, after all.
When you did come back, he scooted back so he was leaned back against the head board. Waiting for you to come over and attend to what you both hoped was his final wound. "So," you started as you dug out the supplies to patch up his scalp. "If I'm not a toy, what am I? Or... What are we?" You asked, glancing at his eyes before working on his head.
He was quiet for a while. Long enough that it had you worried, but each time you looked down at his face he was staring at you like he was thinking. Thinking long and hard about his next words. Really, he was praying that you would know without him having to say anything. "Truthfully, I don't even know." He told you, and you frowned a bit. There it was, you got your hopes up just a bit and you were brought back down.
"Well, I know what I want," Jack told you, a small laugh leaving his chest. "I always know what I want, it's what I'm best at. I want you. I want you by my side when I take down the Vault Hunters and open the Vault on Pandora." You stopped your work, staring at him with wide eyes. He had to be joking, right?
"What do you mean, by your side? Like as your medic?" You stammered a bit, pulling your hands away and Jack took this as a chance to grab your hands, pulling them close to him. A crazy glint in his eyes that worried you a little. "Well, that too, but as my partner. My other half. I want you as mine, and I really thought I made that damn clear with you being the only person I ever screw around with. I mean, I let you leave hickeys on me, you think I'd let just anyone do that?" He laughed, and you felt your insides turning. You were scared he was going to start laughing at you if you said you wanted all of that too, I mean. It wasn't like you didn't like him. You liked him quite a bit, actually. You always just pushed those feeling away.
"Are you making fun of me? This is a joke isn't it?" He could see the worry on your face, and it frustrated him. "What part of I like you do you not fucking understand?" He snapped, squeezing your hands a little tighter, and that made you flinch, your eyes and jaw squeezing shut. He regretted his actions, wishing he didn't let his anger get the best of him, but it was just who he was.
He released the grip on your hands. Letting them go completely so he could reach up to cup the sides of your face. "Look at me," he wanted to see your eyes. "Hey, look at me, please?" He asked, rubbing your cheek bones as he waited for your eyes to open. When they did finally flutter open he smiled. A smile that seemed almost too genuine for Handsome Jack. It scared you a little, really.
"Look, I'm sorry I yelled. I just don't understand why you can't trust me. I've been nothing but good to you, haven't I? If I did anything wrong, tell me now." He spoke, and you shook your head. "You didn't do anything wrong." He nodded his head, "Then what is it?" You stared back at him for a second while you thought of what you wanted to say. You didn't want to confuse or frustrate him any more than he already was. "I just don't get it." He furrowed his brows, "Everyone told me you were some heartless bastard who didn't care about no one. So I always just assumed you were using me. I never told anyone about me coming over to help us, or the time that we shared, but the rumors that people spread about them. I believed a lot of them." "Why?" He asked, looking a little wounded. "I guess I just never expected you to like a nobody like me." He sighed, pulling you close to him so he could wrap his arms around you. "Yeah, well I guess I'm just full of surprises." You shrugged, resting your head on his shoulder. "You really are, Jack." No one would believe you if you told them you were sleeping with Handsome Jack anyways, but you were glad to know you were hopefully the only one. If you could even believe him.
"I always just assumed you would want someone like Moxxi," "And have my heart broken again? No way, baby. Plus, you take better care of me, and you let me spoil you without having to flaunt it to the world." You smiled a little, he did spoil you. A lot more than you liked, actually. You always felt like he owed you back each time he would buy you the new supplies you needed and wanted for work or just the little things you wanted for yourself. No matter how much he assured you, you always wanted to pay him back somehow.
Your silence made him a little antsy, giving your hip a light squeeze. "Does this mean you'll be mine, and just mine?" He asked with a grin, and you smiled a bit back yourself. "Yeah, only if you let me make earlier up to you." You stated, beginning to place all of your appliances back into your bag while Jack settled down onto the bed. "Baby, when have I ever denied you?"

authors note / warnings: mentions of lack of trust in relationship, break-ups, infidelity! this was the most requested wip! taken inspiration from high infidelity by taylor swift for this one as well as jolene just because I can't write angst to save my life. I hope you all like it!

You could've sworn that he was keeping count, holding every little encounter you had with Austin against you. The first time you came home late after seeing him, you posting 'too much' with him at rehearsal and the accusation you were sleep-talking about him. You found it all a little childish. You had to remind yourself that Timothee came from a place of love and insecurity, that he just needed reassurance now that you were working so closely with Austin; but sometimes you couldn't find it in yourself.
Timothee knew he was turning into tortured soul in a loveless relationship. The three words now feeling empty when you spoke them to him. He wondered where you were on nights that you were home late and wouldn't mention anything. When he wasn't home, he barely received any text messages keeping him up to date with your comings and goings. He didn't want to be controlling and ask, but he also didn't want to have to seek it out from you. That wasn't the relationship he entered.
The shift between you both was recent, it was still fresh. Timothee knew when everything changed and you did too, because you didn't want to admit it, so you would say it softly in your head. It was when you first met Austin.
Table reads, rehearsing lines, time consuming and sleep-eating. You and Austin were spending majority of your time together pre-production, working together to create the chemistry that the audience would crave on the silver screen. You told yourself that you were dedicating yourself to Austin for the film and the film only. You were a dirty liar, you found solace in him.
Timothee knew that you were falling out of love. He could feel it. He was beginning to feel like you weren't loving him enough, that your focus was elsewhere- and he knew it was. It seemed to always be on Austin.
Part of him understood, his dirty blonde hair contrasted from his own dark locks so intensely. Austin was the sunshine, while he was a raincloud. He looked so intriguing, he had women flocking over him- that is the part he didn't understand. Austin could have any woman he wanted, why did he feel the need to siphon you from him.
He contemplated bringing it up with him, saying something that would make him stop. He couldn't find it in himself though. But Timothee knew that Austin would never understand what you meant to him. Austin would never understand the nights Timothee spent crying after he heard your lips utter another man's name in your sleep.
His heart slowly shattered as his chest was filled with insecurity, it was as if you had just recited a list of why he wasn't enough, and why Austin was.
You were home late again. Timothee knew your call-times, you were home two hours after you had wrapped for the day; and he knew exactly who you had been with. There was silence when you came through the front door. What once would've been calls of 'I'm home' and whispers of 'I love you', was simply nothing anymore.
"I need to ask you something," You knew it was coming, you knew for weeks now. It was only a matter of time before Timothee finally got sick of your shit and spoke up.
"Okay," You nodded, trying to remain as casual as you could, "What is it?" Maybe you could run now? Leave and never come back.
"You need to be honest with me," Timothee hadn't met your eyes yet, you knew why he hadn't, "I think I deserve that," He was right. He deserved that and so much more; more than you. You were a weak little girl who would decide which toy she wanted to play with in the morning.
You swallowed the lump in your throat, "Okay" You nodded.
"Are you cheating on me?"
There it was.
You let your thoughts scatter themselves around your brain. Ways to cover your own ass, ways to lie, ways to confess the truth to him. Tell him the truth. Sweet sweet Timmy. You didn't want to lie, but you couldn't break his heart the way you knew you would have to.
"What? No" You scoffed.
"Do you like Austin?" He shot back at you. He was being more upfront, maybe he would leave you before you could confess. You hoped he would.
"Timmy, we're just-"
He cut you off, "Friends? Colleagues?" He laughed, "Tell me please because I'm not sure anymore!"
"You're being silly" You tried to deescalate, you really tried. You knew it wasn't going to work.
"No, no I'm not," He finally looked over at you from his place across the room, "I'm losing my girlfriend to some guy I don't even know!" There were tears in his eyes. Threatening him with every word he spoke to fall. You couldn't see him cry, your mistakes would finally be real if he cried in front of you.
"Timothee please, you're not losing me," You whispered to him.
You were faced with his silence again. These days it was becoming more deafening. When he wasn't talking, you were left with the whispers of your actions. You hated what you had done, but you couldn't help yourself. Austin was intoxicating.
"You were talking about him again," His first tear fell. You were beginning to panic now.
"You have to stop making these things up just to find things to fight about," You tried to uselessly defend yourself, "I don't sleep-talk!" You do.
"Yes, yes you do!" Timothee stood up from the couch, not being able to contain himself anymore. He was fighting a losing battle and you both knew it. "You do it when you're stressed. You also fold the laundry messily and forget to drink water unless it's sitting in front of you. I know these things, he doesn't!"
"Oh my god, Timothee please," You sighed.
"No! This is serious, you're lying to me every day. I know you like him, I would just rather you come out and tell me instead of hiding it" He was yelling now, begging you for the truth. He came over to where you sat and got down on his knees in front of you. Grabbing your hands, he brought them to his lips as he whispered, "Y/N, Please".
As you took in his appearance, you saw just how much this had been tearing him apart. He looked tired, scared. You had done this to him. You never deserved him.
"He's just- He's just different," You whispered, taking his hands in yours. "I'm really sorry," You started to cry. Timothee took his hands away from your, letting them go.
"You don't really get to say you're sorry right now," He stood back up, sniffing away his tears.
"Timmy-"
"Please, don't!" He turned back around to face you, his entire being defeated. "Like, Y/N-" He sighed- "I know I can't compete with him, but I thought after everything that we've had you would at least tell me that you didn't want to be together anymore"
"I do!" You lied, standing up.
"No, no you don't" He walked over to you, "And the worst part is that I understand it," He nodded. "I understand why you would want to be with him. Austin, he's-" He shook his head, his brain flooding with images of his perfect smile and warm skin- "He's exciting and good looking. He's got a great voice and he's talented and he's the kinda guy that you want in life and I know that because I remember how you acted when you fell in love with me," He held your gaze, but there was no passion anymore. It was all gone. "I can see it, Y/N," He was finished.
"What do you want me to say?" You shrugged, "You wanna hear how I lied? How he makes me feel?" You were at a loss for words really, you couldn't stand listening to your own voice anymore.
"I want the truth, Y/N!" He cried.
"The truth is that Austin really makes me feel-" You sighed, searching for the right thing to say- "I don't know.. alive? That sounds so stupid and I'm sorry" You shook your head, you had failed this sweet boy.
"It's not stupid" He whispered, "I know that feeling, it's how you make me feel" He admitted. You closed your eyes, letting more tears stream down your face.
"Timmy, I'm sorry" You held his face in your hands, trying to tell him you knew you had messed up.
"I get it" He whispered, closing his eyes and letting you hold him one last time, "Really, I do. I can't compete with him, Y/N. I really can't," He shook his head. "He's great," Timothee opened his eyes and brought himself out of your hold, "Good luck with the rest of the movie, Y/N" He held your hand and put it back down at your side. "I don't know if I'll see it when you're done, but I'm sure you'll be great. You always are," He nodded, turning away and walking towards the front door.
"Don't go-" You cried.
"I have to, I have to go" He tried his best to turn back around to look at you.
"Can we please talk for a second?" You followed him, grabbing his hand softly. You let him pull away from you. You knew that there wasn't anything else you could say to him that would fix what you had done.
"There's not much more to say and I think you know that," He was right, you did. "I'll come get my stuff tomorrow while you're out and then I'm gonna go back to New York,"
"Okay," You nodded, "Are you sure you can't stay? Even for a little bit?" You already knew his answer.
"Completely sure" He opened the front door. Timothee didn't let himself turn back to look at you, for fear he would crumble and stay by your side. "Bye, Y/N" He whispered, closing the front door behind him.
There you stood, alone in your living room. You let yourself break apart from your own selfish actions. Nothing could excuse what you had done.
Timothee stood on the front step for a moment, letting the cruel reality set in. Austin had taken you, even after he had begged to keep you. He understood it though, he would never be Austin.

Note: This has implied/referenced dark topics, but none of it is explicit explored and depicted in the story! I was requested to write Astarion pre-Nautiloid interacting with either a spawn, or trying to get a catch for Cazador. I settled for this brief interaction because, for some reason, it got stuck in my head!
Even though this isn't Explicit, I still would rather minors DNI!

“You really should stop picking fights with Petras.” Astarion stiffens up when he hears a voice that isn’t Godey’s – a surprise, considering Cazador, but that ugly bastard always has such a strange soft spot for Dalyria that he cannot understand. He looks over to see her standing at the doorway, hovering almost uncertainly, before she huffs something out and puffs her hair out of her eyes. Even with them being ageless and their bodies not often showing signs of wear and tear, she looks tired, drained. She has rats in her hands and Astarion bears his teeth in a hiss.
“Really, Dal?” he drawls her name out, watching the way she twitches uncomfortably. She never likes at when he enunciates her name that way; it sounds too close to doll, Astarion is aware, which is what Cazador likes calling her before he whisks her away to hurt her in a way he doesn’t with some of the other spawn. “You’re bringing me rats? Do you think that is a peace offering?” he snaps out and she looks at him warily.
The room he is in isn’t the kennel; it is one of the many rooms unused by Cazador’s ‘guests’, the one where he will sometimes prison the spawn in while deciding what to do with them. This is Astarion’s; there are still documents of cases he worked on and scrolls of the many illicit deals he made with people most unsavoury. Blackmail that Cazador never uses, perhaps because, well, why would he need to? Dalyria looks around in the decrepit bedroom and tries not to linger on places where peeled flesh have long since fused with the ground, where blood dries and stains permanently. The smell does not help much. At the very least it isn’t feculent; it is hard to expend waste when your diet is entirely liquids that don’t go to your kidneys.
Her expression falls considerably. At least, Astarion thinks, it doesn’t have the stench of semen that Petras’ room has; Cazador likes his looks, personally, just like he does with Dalyria. He hears them, sometimes, when Cazador is being especially cruel. If Astarion has anything in his belly then surely he will retch recalling it. He looks at Dalyria’s strained wrists then back down to the rats.
“I convinced him,” she says with a shaky voice, “to not take punishment out on you this time. I found – I kept – I put him in a good mood.” starved and shaky, she makes her way over to Astarion and dumps the rats in front of him. They fall with an almost sloppy sound that makes her heave and him wince away. “Here are the rats he would have given me, alongside your share.” instead of leaving when he picks one of the putrid rats up, she settles down next to him, knees drawn up and gaze blank.
He takes a pointed sniff, the first since she comes in here, and fights back a gag. The stench emanating from her is horrid, especially now that she is so close to him, and her claws dig in deep into her knees. There are bruises that won’t fade, hidden a little under her dress, when Astarion peeks at her.
“Why did you fight with him?” she asks. “You know he...” neither of them continue that sentence; how Cazador looks at Petras is something Astarion pretends he doesn’t notice. It isn’t the same way he looks at Astarion, enraged and oh-so-gleeful at the idea of flaying him, but at least it doesn’t involve bodily fluids exchanged between them. Strangely, Cazador doesn’t find him desirable. Attractive, yes, attractive enough to twist his womanizing ways against him. Not enough to want him. “I was lucky this time, I don’t know if I can do this again.”
The laugh Astarion barks out burns his lips, melts his teeth, and Dalyria gives him a worn glare. “That bastard decided to take his anger out on me,” he spits out, “I only escalated it and finally gave him his due. Really, now, Dal,” and again is the flinch; it makes him hesitate for less than a moment. Only for less than that. “You know he showboats! He thinks himself more favoured than me because I lose my spine and have it crushed up while he gets to have himself ripped open!” she shushes him when he is about to start screaming; the walls have ears, who knows who will hear? And Astarion grits his teeth. “He had it coming. And I was not in a good way that day.”
“Cazador won’t favour you like he does Leon if you keep acting out like that,” she says, almost skittish, “and he won’t be giving me any supplies to help us – you, myself anytime soon, you know that.”
He looks at her. She stares back. “What a failure of a doctor you are.” he says blankly and Dalyria’s eyes flash with anger, only for it to melt away just as quickly. She looks hollowed. He sees himself reflected, though warbled, in the ruby of her eyes; he looks just the same. “Besides, Leon always does his best to brown nose to Cazador as much as he can. No one can match up to him. Not even you.”
The rat in his hand is heavy and disgusting. She seems to have cleaned it up as best she can before coming here, as though to spare him some indignity, and he can’t help the next roll of sharp laughter that escapes him. She doesn’t react; instead, she just watches quietly while he brings the rat up and sinks his teeth into it, drinking hungrily from it.
“I think,” she says, “I think out of everyone, Astarion, you’ll be the one to escape, and you’ll be the one to do better than all of us. But I don’t know when that’ll happen, not when Cazador seems to be getting so... so paranoid, now.”
He snorts. “What a delusional idealist you are, Dalyria.” and she looks down at the rabbits. Her stomach rumbles like his does, a vestigial, mocking memorabilia of mortality. He hoards the rats closer and Dalyria closes her eyes before she stands up.
Something drips down her legs. She is quick to grab something to wipe it off of the floor, off her thighs. He watches her scrub herself raw, like he has many times before. The rat in his mouth tastes like bile.
“I’m sorry, Astarion.” Dalyria says.
“Aren’t we all, Dal?” and she walks away. The wood does not creak beneath her feet. She turns to look at him.
She closes the door.

If you were tagged here, that is because you graciously accepted my invitation to help out with this year's edition of the Movie Odyssey Award for Best Original Song (MOABOS). I welcome you to the eleventh edition of MOABOS (MOABOS XI) and the tenth edition with outside help from family, friends, and followers on tumblr. When I first opened this up to other folks in 2014 (MOABOS II), I believed that this would last but only a few years, at most. And every time the year is new, I have no clue whether or not there will be another edition of MOABOS.
But here we are yet again. The Movie Odyssey Award for Best Original Song is not possible without all of your help.
For newcomers near and far: This is a classic film blog (concentration: pre-1980s Hollywood, but I have various specialties outside of that and watch plenty of newer films). That blog's primary purpose is to host my nearly 800 film write-ups tagged "My Movie Odyssey" (an index can be found here). MOABOS is one of my blog's year-end traditions, and just a smaller part of a larger one. On my blog, the Movie Odyssey Awards honor some of the best achievements from movies that I saw for the first time this calendar year (the "Movie Odyssey") with an Oscar-like ceremony. I choose all the nominees and winners from each category, save one: Best Original Song. It is the only category that does not require you to watch several movies in their entirety. MOABOS is my way to say thank you for your friendship and moral support no matter how long I've known you. It is, sneakily so, a way to introduce all of you to music and movies I enjoyed this past year. And you might learn a snippet of film history through this!
INTRODUCTION
An unspecified number of songs have already advanced to the final round. 24 songs will contest this preliminary round in two groups - Group A and Group B. After three years of pandemic disruptions, the 2020s are finally making a significant mark on MOABOS, perhaps with a vengeance. Some of the highest-grossing films of both 2023 and 2022 are here to contend, as is a movie newly-minted as one of the highest-grossing anime films ever. But the defending decade, the 1980s (through Dolly Parton's title song for 1980's 9 to 5), has plenty of entries this year. It is the decade of pop culture I like least, but the 1980s have a decent shot at being the first decade to defend a MOABOS title.
Last year was regrettably a monolingual field of songs. Folks, multilingual MOABOS is back. This year, across both groups, English, French, Hindi (returning for the first time since 2020, or MOABOS VIII), Japanese (also returning after a three-year absence), Brazilian Portuguese, and Vietnamese will be represented. For their respective movies, they capture just a part of a nation's soul and filmmaking culture at a certain time. MOABOS, too, is its own sort of time capsule.
After a few years of slight decline, the preliminary round of MOABOS drew a record 36 people casting rankings. Might that record fall this year? That same preliminary saw a resounding rejection of American folk music (or spoofs of American folk, at least) and a decidedly mixed opinion of the style of Golden Age 20th Century Fox musicals (their plots might be silly and nonsensical, but at least they have no pretensions of being anything more than that!). No American folk this year, but 20th Century Fox has a few contenders this year.
1980s and contemporary pop have historically performed well in the preliminaries. With some formidable entries this year that receive regular radio play, does that hold up or are there upsets in the cards?
2019's MOABOS (MOABOS VII) preliminary remains the gold standard for sheer chaos. The miraculous comeback of "I Dug a Ditch" from Thousands Cheer (1943) in the prelim's final hour brought a song that seemed dead as a doorknob back to life. A song about digging a hole got out of its hole, if you will. No group since has ever matched that drama. Might this be a nailbiter of a result?

A notice on audio/video quality and colorization of black-and-white film: Because it is sometimes difficult to find clean recordings of much of this music, imperfections in audio and video quality may not be used against any song while you are drawing up your rankings - you're on the honor system on this one. In addition, in respect to personal and blog policy, I will not provide colorized videos of films that were originally in black-and-white. You can call this snobby all you want. But to yours truly, film colorization of B&W is disrespectful to the artisans who plied their craft and made decisions based on the fact the film was shot in black-and-white. It is essentially redirecting a movie without consent.

The top six songs in each group automatically advance to the final round. Unlike previous years, no at-large wild card picks outside the top six will advance to the final.
The deadline for submission is Wednesday, December 13 at 11 PM Pacific Time. That is 9 PM Hawaii/Aleutian Time. That deadline is also Thursday, December 14 at 1 AM Central Time / 2 AM Eastern Time / 7 AM GMT / 8 AM CET / 9 AM EET. This deadline - and some of you have joked with me that this is inevitable - will be pushed back if there are a large number of people who have not submitted in time. However, I very much do not wish to extend the deadline because the final round is more intensive and usually involves more participants. A small group of longtime MOABOS veterans will be asked to do both groups, if possible (but they are required to complete their assigned group first before moving on) - they are generally selected for their longevity of MOABOS participation and promptness. “Apartment for Sale”, music and lyrics by Cate Blanchett and Todd Field, Tár (2022)

After her cross-hall apartment neighbor dies, composer/conductor Lydia Tár (Blanchett; whose character is the first female music director of the Berlin Philharmonic) learns from the deceased's family that they think the classical music emanating from Tár's apartment is an unlistenable racket. They bluntly request Tár to stop playing music entirely when they meet with potential buyers. Moments after that encounter, this is her response. By this point in the film, Tár's rationality is very much in question. This is a drama about the hubris and manipulative ways for a person in power.
This is the shortest song ever to qualify for a MOABOS preliminary round.

Raj Kapoor was a major director/actor in the early decades of Bollywood. In one of his first directed movies, shortly after the Partition of India, we find Barsaat. This romance tells of two love stories of city men meeting women who live in Kashmir (a disputed region between India, Pakistan, and China). Later in the films, we will find Pran (Raj Kapoor) and Reshma (Nargis) quickly falling in love. But this song surrounds the womanizing Gopal (Prem Nath) and Neela (Nimmi), whose faithful love for Gopal goes largely unrequited. After much convincing from Neela, Gopal attends a local festival – and doesn't pay much attention to this Neela-led song-and-dance number.
In the reprise, Neela has died near the end of the film. Reformed, realizing too late how horrible he has been to Neela, Gopal carries her body to her funeral pyre as the monsoon rains – as hinted in this film's very title – finally arrive.

In this stop-motion animated adaptation of Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio, director Guillermo del Toro injects the tale with his signature gothic touch – moving the narrative up in time to Fascist Italy and not shying away from the original book's grotesqueness and the title character's sociopathy. This song appears as part of a montage where Geppetto (David Bradley) goes in search of Pinocchio (Mann) after Count Volpe (Christoph Waltz) abducts the wooden son.

Lyrics in Portuguese (extremely rough translated lyrics... "Saravá ogum" is an Afro-Brazilian exclamation; I'm not sure what "Mandinga" means in the song's context, but it's an Afro-Brazilian word that either refers to an ethnic group or "magic")
In this film almost never screened outside Brazil, two separate romantic storylines – a white couple and a black couple – play out in a Rio de Janeiro favela. In the latter storyline, Antônio Pitanga plays a shoeshiner. One day, while setting up his shoeshining equipment along the beach, he sings this song – an optimistic number in hopes for a better tomorrow. Black Brazilian romance was and is rare in Brazilian cinema, and the inclusion of such a romance so prominently featured in this film makes it a landmark of the nation's film history.
From the song's humble origins and use in the film, Sérgio Ricardo turned it into bossa nova. That's the late composer/film director himself in the provided video (the older man furthest to the left). The lead singers are his daughters.

This song, with touches of '80s arena rock and torch songs, appears at the top of the end credits. It is not quoted in the film's score at any point in this equally jingoistic sequel to the original Top Gun.

This song's melody forms the backbone of the film's score throughout. In the opening minutes of this musical, we find the Phil Corey Orchestra (Glenn Miller and His Orchestra) rehearsing in preparation for a Christmas concert they will be headlining in the mountainous resort town of Sun Valley, Idaho. The first 48 seconds of the first video are an instrumental version of Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade".
The reprise occurs near the end of the film as Norwegian refugee/figure skating extraordinaire Karen Benson (Sonja Henie, a 3x Olympic gold medalist in figure skating) and pianist Ted Scott (John Payne) find themselves stuck in a mountainside cabin. Karen, who has fled Norway due to the Nazi takeover there, has been pursuing Ted for almost all of the film, and Ted finally succumbs to her charms here - to the outrage of his girlfriend (Lynn Bari). Suffice it to say nobody should watch 20th Century Fox musicals for the plot (but refreshingly, they're not pretending to be any more than what they are).

Adapted from Muriel Spark's novel of the same name and set in 1930s Edinburgh, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie stars Maggie Smith as Jean Brodie, a teacher at an all-girls school. Brodie, a woman with unorthodox teaching methods, has a cadre of favorite students nicknamed the "Brodie Set": Sandy (Pamela Franklin), Monica (Shirley Steedman), Jenny (Diane Grayson), and Mary (Jane Carr). Each of them are around twelve years old when the film begins. This film, an atypical "teacher movie", is about a breakdown of professionalism, betrayal of trust, loss of innocence, and hubris.
The melodic structure is inspired by the style of Scottish folk songs, and it forms the central spine of the film's score and plays throughout. The song itself is not performed with lyrics until the end credits. Due to the events in the film's closing act, the tone, placement, and lyrics of "Jean" become ironic. The lyrics are decidedly romantic but, in context, it's anything but.

Based on the book of the same name by Alice Walker, The Color Purple stars Whoopi Goldberg as Celie Harris in her breakthrough role. Celie, forcibly married off to Albert "Mister" Johnson (Danny Glover) as a teenager, has grown resigned after a lifetime of parental and spousal abuse. Mister has a mistress named Shug Avery (Margaret Avery), who works as a showgirl in Memphis. After one stormy evening, a sickly Shug appears at Mister's homestead for the first time and, over a few weeks, Celie nurses her back to health. The two grow attached and, as tribute, Shug performs this song at the local riverside juke joint.
In the book, the romantic relationship between Celie and Shug after this moment is more explicit. Director Steven Spielberg's greatest regret over this film was not making more of this romantic relationship. Given that the movie was released at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis and in an environment where LGBTQ+ themes were verboten to the major movie studios, I don't believe much more could've been done in 1985.

After narrator Helen Mirren describes to the audience Barbieland, we are introduced to Barbie (Margot Robbie), just awakening from a good night's sleep, with the initial version of "Pink". At the end of that day at the nightly dance party, Barbie asks her fellow Barbies if they ever think about death – a Barbie faux pas. Barbie corrects herself, but remains haunted by her question when she goes to bed that evening. We hear the reprise as Barbie awakens the next morning after barely sleeping, and everything that can go wrong does go wrong.

Appears in the opening credits and final minutes of this comedy. That Darn Cat! marked the end of an era and the start of another. This was Hayley Mills' final of six films for Disney (a run that included the title character in 1960's Pollyanna and in her dual role in the original Parent Trap) and Dean Jones' first for Disney. The provided version includes audio from the opening credits, extracted directly from the film itself (a stipulation in Darin's contract means that the original soundtrack version is nowhere to be found online).

For those of you who despised this song's placement in those Shirley Temple DVD infomercials, I have no apologies to offer you.

Played over the opening credits (not provided, because they are extremely NSFW) in which the title character (Jane Fonda) slowly undresses herself in zero gravity. Based on a controversially racy and heavily sexualized comic book series in France (even for the French!), Barbarella is a campy sci-fi movie that obliterated Fonda's homespun image in cinema. The movie was and is far more popular in Europe than it was in the U.S. (where it never became anything more than a cult classic).
In the years since, Fonda, a noted liberal activist, has essentially pleaded no contest to accusations that the film was anything but feminist.

Appears in part during a celebratory night at a pub in the film's opening act. Full appearance at the top of the end credits. This is a sea shanty celebrating the legendary monster hunter Captain Crow (Jared Harris). The melody is seldom quoted in the film's score. In The Sea Beast, an unnamed country has waged a centuries-long campaign to kill sea beasts, in defense of humanity. Similar to American Westerns, the film and this song plays with ideas of how popular narratives or mythoi are spun.

The Kens of Barbieland have just taken over power from the Barbies. In response, the Barbies, Allan, and Mattel employee Gloria and her daughter Sasha have manipulated the Kens into fighting each other while they attempt to reestablish control. According to director Greta Gerwig, the dance segment seen here was influenced by "Lullaby of Broadway" from Gold Diggers of 1935 (1935; see the warm-up playlist I sent to many of you) and "The Broadway Melody" from Singin' in the Rain (1952).

This song appears at the top of the end credits of this sequel to 2012's Ernest & Celestine, which was nominated (against the odds) for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The original was, as I wrote back in 2014, "cinematic friendship at its most rewarding and profoundly beautiful." In this sequel for our dynamic mouse and bear duo, Celestine (the mouse) accidentally breaks Ernest's (the bear) precious Stradibearius violin. It leads the unlikely friends to search for an old violin maker acquaintance of Ernest's back in his homeland of Gibberitia ("Charabïe" in the original title, a name derived from "charabia", the French word for "gibberish").

The eleventh of Elvis' 31 movies (if MOABOS returns for future editions, let's just say there's a lot more Elvis to come) and the second shot in Hawai'i after 1961's Blue Hawaii, Girls! Girls! Girls! is a misnomer as there are only two girls vying for Elvis' affections (it would be an appropriate title for many other Elvis movies). My sister thinks this film should've been titled Girls? Girls. Girls!
Here, Ross Carpenter (Elvis) is a fisherman who spends his evenings as a nightclub singer. Fellow nightclub singer Robin Gantner (Stella Stevens) and the secretly wealthy Laurel Dodge (Laurel Goodwin) are very much attracted to him. This number occurs after Ross starts seeing Laurel, inflaming Robin's suspicions, and resulting in a spat at the bar that immediately preceded the song.
“Something He Can Feel”, music and lyrics by Curtis Mayfield, Sparkle (1976)

Loosely based on the history of the Supremes, the musical Sparkle is the story of the three Williams sisters (the late Cara as lead singer Sparkle, McKee as Sister, and Smith as Dolores). They decide, along with two of their boyfriends, to take their church singing experience and turn into a semi-professional group called the Hearts.
This song appears midway through the film, as the boys have dropped out to become the group's managers. The Williams sisters have renamed the group Sister and the Sisters (I would've kept the original name). The performance of this number is intercut with glimpses of Sister's troubled personal life – the film's Rubicon crossing, setting up the conclusion of her storyline.
The film's original soundtrack does not contain any of the original performances. Instead, Aretha Franklin sings all the songs from the film in the soundtrack.
“Suzume”, music and lyrics by RADWIMPS, Suzume (2022, Japan)

This song's melody (especially the eighteen-note vocalized motif) appears throughout the film. But this version, with lyrics, only appears as the second song in the end credits. In this film, 17-year-old Suzume and a young man named Souta must journey across Japan to close a series of mystical doors. Mysterious phenomena are passing through these once-locked into our world, and are causing natural disasters.
Makoto Shinkai's latest, unadjusted for inflation, is the fourth-highest grossing Japanese film of all time. MOABOS regulars will recall previous entries from Your Name (2016) and Weathering with You (2019) – all RADWIMPS compositions. Suzume directly addresses a trauma that Your Name and Weathering with You danced around: the 3/11/11 earthquake, tsunami, and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.

This song plays during romantic dialogue between Maverick (Tom Cruise) and Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood (Kelly McGillis). Top Gun never plays the entire song. In its inexplicable four appearances in the film in a 20-minute span, the song itself is played muted underneath the dialogue, its lyrics barely discernible in those respective scenes.

“We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)”, music and lyrics by Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985)

This song plays at the top of the end credits of the Mad Max series' third entry. In this movie, the late Tina Turner herself plays the antagonist (but neither true villain or antihero) Aunty Entity - who leads a post-apocalyptic trading post called Bartertown. "Thunderdome" refers to a gladiatorial arena in Bartertown in which conflicts are settled in a battle to the death (an aside: awkward as "Thunderdome" sounds as a lyric, it makes more sense than "Thunderball" from the 007 movie of the same name).

Alright here's some new OCs plus a bonus one that conceptualized as I was writing these out whoops (and I'm gonna tag @daughter-of-melpomene since Dolly knew about a little about Aimee and gave me literally all 4 FCs for the 911/911 Lone Star ocs)
OUAT
Aimee Grimard (Charithra Chandran FC), Gabriella Lang ship. Known as Elisabeth Barbot in the Enchanted Forest, her father was a merchant that angered the Evil Queen and her home was burned down and his ship was lost at seat. They had to move to the countryside and work on a farm, where she explored in the woods and found a deserted castle where she met Suzanna. In Storybrooke, she lives and works on the docks, helps out at Granny's and does storytime sometimes for Mary Margaret. When the curse is broken, she remembers Gabriella but Gabriella doesn't remember her

Rowan Buckley (Jake Borelli FC), Josh Russo ship. A cousin to Maddie born a year after Daniel, he also wasn't a bone marrow match. So when his parents died and his aunt and uncle took him in just after Daniel passed, he was also sworn to secrecy to never talk about him. He and Buck weren't very close when they were young as their parents focused more on Rowan as the replacement son for Daniel and Rowan was always very unsure how to be around his cousin, Maddie was pretty much their in between. When he was 18, he left home to go to college for pre-med (inspired by everything that happened with Daniel) and moved to Los Angeles, only really talking to his parents and occasionally Maddie until those talks stopped too. Then when he transfers hospitals, he meets Firefighter Buckley for the first time in years.

Kaeden Duan (Harry Shum Jr. FC), Evan Buckley & Eddie Diaz ship. Born and raised in San Francisco, he spent most of his childhood raising his little sister since their parents weren't around like, at all. She lived with him as soon as he was 18 though he was training to be an EMT at the time. Then Alyssa got into college in LA and he moved with her, which leads to him meeting the 118

Mariana Diaz (Jaina Lee Ortiz FC), Marjan Marwani ship. Though her brother Eddie was always her hero and she missed him while he was in Afghanistan, she knew he was having problems. Especially after Shannon left him and Christopher. So, she encouraged him to leave Texas. Screw their parents. And Mariana, she threw herself into her work after that. Fighting fires, that's what she was good at. And then Owen Strand calls her. Her captain knew him and when he was looking to rebuild the 126, he recommended her transfer. So she accepted.

Melody Lau (Melissa O'Neil FC), Paul Strickland ship. Ever since she was young, Melody knew she wanted to help people. But her family couldn't afford to send her to college so, she looked to the police academy. She passed with flying colors, her only issue was getting employment. Melody started applying anywhere she could, and Austin was the only one that accepted with enough time for her to move. She quickly became friends with Carlos Reyes, and soon meets the 126

The Bright Sessions
Lucas Bramwell (Cody Christian FC), Caleb Michaels ship. A Class B, Level 6 Atypical, he has the ability to control plants. He's been with Dr. Bright for about six months now after being recommended by Agent Green, he does go to school with Caleb but neither have realized the other is an atypical or a patient of Dr. Bright's as he typically stays away from sports and they only share a couple of classes. After he meets Chloe when he's touring her college, he slowly gets more involved in what the AM is really doing and with Caleb

Aurora Decker (Danielle Campbell FC), Samantha Barnes & Mark Bryant ship. A Class C, Level 8 Atypical, she has the ability to turn invisible. She's a recent patient of Dr. Bright's after she saw her ad, Aurora has always had a hard time controlling her ability which has caused her to have problems in her job. She meets Sam with Dr. Bright's plan to sneak into the AM and they grow closer while on the road trip to look for Mark.

Billie Foster (Alexandra Daddario FC), Robert Gorham Damien ship. A Class A, Level 5 Atypical, she has the ability of clairvoyance. An older patient of Dr. Bright's, she's helped her get her level down a lot and while Billie probably could get away with stopping her sessions, she's almost afraid to for reasons she doesn't say. She meets Damien when he's waiting around after her session to see Dr. Bright and though Billie didn't like him at first, he kept finding her and talking to her

Laurence Mercer (Tyler Hoechlin FC), Robert Gorham Damien ship. A non-atypical that works for the AM under the name Agent Poirot, he gets moved from DC to Boston to work with Agent Green and through that he unintentionally meets Dr. Bright. But it's through an accidental meeting with Chloe at a coffee shop that he ends up meeting Damien, who initially dislikes him and Laurence tries to keep a distance, but it doesn't quite work for the two of them

this album is literally . everything omg like i've literally been going crazy over this album and it's not even been a week yet and i apologise for the babbling but i need to get some things off my chest or i will actually lose it so !!!! gonna yap about every single track now !!!!!! (some coherent thoughts, and some not so coherent thoughts) :

AMERIICAN REQUIREM - (im obsessed with all of the stylisation ii in the album titles bc its act ii) this song is basically a thesis statement for the whooooole album the main lyrical part is : 'used to say i spoke "too country" / and the rejection came, said / "i wasn't country enough" / said i wouldn't saddle up, but / if that ain't country, tell me what is? ' and obviously it goes without saying that the vocals on this track are PERFECT and angelic because, this is beyoncé she could never underdeliver. ive heard so many people say that the layering reminds them of bohemian rhapsody and I AGREEEE
after ameriican requirem, this section of the next fourish tracks reminded me of self titled (2014) in the sense that it explores the different aspects of beyoncé as a person (being a black woman, career, motherhood, self love etc) LOOKA DER LOOKA DER LALALALALALALALALALALAAAAAAAAA. THIS INTRO IS EVERYTHING TO ME ITS SO CINEMATIC AND BIG AND ★BEYONCÉ★
BLACKBIIRD - second song on here is a cover of blackbird by the beatles, featuring tanner adell, brittney spencer, tiera kennedy, and reyna roberts (all up and coming black country artists!!!!). i didn't know this until like, the day the album dropped and i was looking into it but blackbird was written by paul mccartney about black women in the 60s experiencing struggles with the american civil rights movement. and in england 'bird' is kinda slang for girl, so 'black bird' = 'black girl'. and that song was intended to bring hope, such a perfect track for this album , specially with the features beyoncé included 🤞🏽
16 CARRIAGES - my favourite out of the 2 pre release singles. its about her entering the music industry at 15 and the struggles due to that and growing up so fast, whenever this comes on i will NEVER EVER SKIP ITS TOOOOO GOOOD
PROTECTOR  - i love how this is featuring rumi🥹 whenever beyonce talks about motherhood, or writes a song for her kids (like here, blue, bigger, brown skin girl etc) it always gets me tearing up on first listen. first of all i LOVEEEE a voice memo intro, and this whole lullaby is just <333333
MY ROSE - ive seen a lot of people saying that they dont like how this album is so long, but me personally, i love that there are so many tracks, even short ones like this that add depth or a vibe. also i love any song that says lalalalalalalalaaaa so that got me
SMOKE HOUR ★ WILLIE NELSON - IM OBSESSED W THIS INTERLUUUDEEEEEE the feel of changing the channel on a radio is so cool and adds a really fun atmosphere and really works well for themes here
TEXAS HOLD ‘EM - everyone hates this song BUT I DONTTTTT its a real life boogie and a real life hoe down frfr
BODYGUARD - this ones so fun and lighthearted, aside from the parts where shes like ‘i dont like the way shes looking at you 😒😒😒 someone better hold me back’ and that line leads so well into the next tracks:
DOLLY P / JOLENE - HAAHAHAHAHAHA THE DOLLY P INTERLUDE TOOK ME OUTTT WITH THE BECKY WITH THE GOOD HAIR REFERENCE😭 and the lyric changes on jolene with her warning becky instead of begging,, iktr !!!!!!! and ‘you a bird go on and sing your song jolene’ 😩 i really like that beyonce brought in dolly because shes like. THE country star. and its kinda wild that people are still dissing beyoncé for releasing country music and saying she doesn’t belong when the literal dolly parton is advocating for her
DAUGHTER - one of my faves on here, it feels so cinematic and i will always appreciate an i killed my husband country song. the whole vibe of this song is really sinister im obsessed and the visuals are already there in my mind like,, ‘your body laid out on these filthy floors / your bloodstains on my custom coutures’, ‘so let's travel to white chapels and sing hymns /
hold rosaries, and sing in stained glass symphonies’ , ‘i sashayed my dress / did my best impression of a damsel in distress’ , etc etc etc. i would literally quote this entire song if i could i think its lyrically the best one. my favourite part is the refrain about her father and choir boys and the titanic its so real. SPAGHETTI - as soon as i saw this title i knew this song was gonna be fun like first of all, the intro talking about genres being restricting, and then the song going straight into that instrumental???????? AND SHES RAPPING ?????????????? THANOS ????????? CUNTY COUNTRY PETTY !!!!!!!!!! YALL BEEN PLAYED BY THE PLAGARISTIC WHEWWWW NO SAUCE NO SAUCE

overall, i think that this is simply the greatest thing to ever grace my ears. i dont think ive ever seen an album with so much thought, care and research put into it, and beyoncé is truly an albums artist and i really really really admire the work she puts into this. since i was really young i really loved her and watching her music videos (watching the self titled music videos at 8 years old is such a core memory for me LOLLL) so every album release is so special to me, and i feel so well fed w this album and i am so intrigued about what’s coming for act iii!!!!!! sorry again for all this talking, this was the cut down version of my thoughts ☠️

So Floral Challenge: A So Flora Mini Challenge
A mini sims legacy challenge inspired by the not so berry legacy challenge. All themed around flowers. Have fun!
Sunflower: You make tons of cards and paintings a kid thinking you'll send then to your parent while they're at university. You miss them tons, but you adore your grandparents and they think you are the best artist in all the world. You dream of moving to the city with your parent once they graduate and becoming a famous painter. After living it up in the city you realize you need to center yourself and enjoy the simpler things. But you don't do anything halfway. You build your very own zen community right in Newcrest and start fresh.

Have a bubble blower in your apartment

Work as the Living Statue for tips

oooh thanks for asking!!! depending on the character it's gonna be a mix of real and fictional people. in some cases, both.
Baxter's idol would be Dr Sydnee McElroy- she's smart, she's funny, she has a himbo husband who is commited to the bit but also knows when to be serious and let her talk about the things she knows? Baxter wishes they were her. They love Sawbones.
Reigan probably has a few lawyers that really inspired him to become a lawyer himself, the biggest one being Sadie Mcgraw. He's stopped idolizing people.
Avalon also has stopped idolizing people, ever since he moved to LA and realized that a lot of the entertainment industry is full of creep assholes. but like, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton.
Simon kind of idolizes his uncle, Thomas :) he's just the coolest, and he helped Simon figure out his gender stuff, mostly by listening and giving him resources when he decided what he wanted to do
Dev loves Invader Zim and JtHM and wants to write comics after they graduate, so of course she kind of idolizes Jhonen Vasquez.
