i thunk that one anon asking about ancient reptilian brain's, uh, fuckabilty, for lack of a better term, was maybe thinking in the context of the other skills? in more general terms, does a.r.b and/or the limbic system have forms the other skills can interact with, in any capacity?

Distressing news in The Independent today:

“David Lynch has revealed he can no longer leave his house since being diagnosed with emphysema. The director of films including Eraserhead and Mulholland Drive, who created and starred in Twin Peaks, shared the revelation in a new interview about his career. Speaking to Sight & Sound magazine, Lynch, 78, said he was diagnosed with emphysema due to smoking throughout his life and said that, if he directs again, it will have to be remotely as he cannot “go out” due to fears he will get Covid. “I’ve gotten emphysema from smoking for so long and so I’m homebound whether I like it or not. It would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold,” he said, revealing that he “can only walk a short distance before” he’s “out of oxygen.” It’s because of this that Lynch says it is unlikely he will direct again, but if he does, he will be unable to do so in person. However, while saying “I would do it remotely if it comes to it”, he said: “I wouldn’t like that so much.””

For Lynch fans, this is obviously deeply saddening (and explains his low profile in recent years). If Inland Empire (2006) represents his last feature film and Twin Peaks: The Return (2017) his final artistic statement, Lynch’s career is ending on a creative high.

Update on this: Lynch has since posted this statement on Twitter. “Ladies and Gentlemen. Yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking. I have to say that I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco - the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them - but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema. I have now quit smoking for over two years. Recently I had many tests, and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire. I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern. Love, David.” It’s worth bearing in mind Lynch is a multimedia artist so even if he never directs a film again (which let's face it, is likely) he'll still paint (for example), and he DID just release a fascinating new album called Cellophane Memories.

what are you guys called? like, as a group? like how you can have a flock of birds or a school of fish. what's a group of skills called?

CONCEPTUALIZATION- We're all anthropomoprhpized aspects of thinking processes. Perhaps a "cluster", like a nerve cell cluster in the brain?

ENCYCLOPEDIA- That wouldn't be accurate. We aren't all representative of parts of the brain. Endurance is associated with the lower intestine. Pain Threshold correlates to all the nerve endings on the body...

DRAMA- How about a crew? Or a troupe?

PHYSICAL INSTRUMENT- We aren't a traveling circus, nancy.

CONCEPTUALIZATION- Ooh, maybe a colony. An independent micro-group.

AUTHORITY- What does that make Harry, then? Our territory?

SHIVERS- Our natural habitat.

LOGIC- Does the answer change depending on the skill family? I elect that intellect skills should be referred to as a "ponder". A ponder of intellect skills.

INLAND EMPIRE- A "sensation" of psyches? An impression?

PHYSICAL INSTRUMENT- Physique skills should be a "flex". Or an ice hockey or volleyball team, because there are six of us.

REACTION SPEED- Can motorics be a "whoosh"? Or a "swish". Or a "whizz"!

COMPOSURE- I don't want to be part of a "whizz".

CONCEPTUALIZATION- I'm starting a new thought project on this one. We have to come up with the right name for a group of skills. Otherwise, how will people refer to us?

THOUGHT GAINED: FLOCKS, HERDS, AND SCHOOLS

You know that a group of mallards is called a sord. A group of hawks is called a cask. A group of ravens is called an unkindness. Those are just birds- what do you call a group of bodily and mental functions given personality? It has to be exquisite, perfectly capturing the ephemeral and unknown nature of these furies. Categorize and label what they are, together. That will bring you a step closer to understanding them.
