Thank you so much for this request I LOVED the idea and really enjoyed writing it<33.

Tumblr media
“Amazing party klaus” Marcel smiled with his hand around Rebekah’s waist. He looked at her and squeezed throwing a smile her way. Her hand reached up to his chest and she returned the smile back at him. Finally happy klaus and him were getting along.
“Must you two flirt around me” he raised an eyebrow drinking from his delicate champagne glass. Rebekah turned around looking around at the crowed. “I don’t see y/n yet, is that why your salty?” She smirked at her brother.
“Salty? Me? Never, she’s simply outside with some of the other girls” he shrugged knowing exactly where she was. “We must have missed her” Marcel told her simply. “Indeed you did and so did I, we haven’t had the chance to speak yet” “why don’t you go and get her, the music will start soon I presume, you’ll want her near so you can ask her to dance” Rebekah tapped her brother on the chest.
He smiled at how well she knew him and she returned the knowing look. Klaus reached his head down to his sister’s cheek and kissed it softly. “Thank you sister”.
——
I was sitting on the benches outside with Hailey, Cami and Caroline sipping our drinks and talking about nothing in particular. The outside seating was quite clever actually as the hall was so crowded with random people and it heated up quite quickly. “I just think red is too bright for a car” Caroline shrugged sipping her drink sitting back on the bench. “My first car was red” I shrugged.
“What type of car was it” “Toyota, it did me a good service” I laughed remembering back to it. “I’m sure it did” hailey giggled catching onto what I was saying. It took a moment but the other two eventually realised and started bursting out laughing. “Was it your first time?” Cami questioned intrigued to know more. “If my first time was in a car I wouldn’t remove it from my memory” I shook my head.
“The cars way too small, my head was hitting the door the whole time” I whispered mid laugh. “Bet it steamed up loads too, must get stuffy” cami raised an eyebrow. “You’ve never done it in a car?” Caroline looked at cami shocked. Even hailey found it to be surprising. “No- and I wouldn’t want to” she laughed. “Who doesn’t want to do what?” Klaus voiced making us all jump out of our skin. He was walking over to us and stood next to where I was sitting. “You startled me klaus!” Cami winned.
“Girl talk klaus, we couldn’t reveal our secrets to you” Caroline put a finger to her lips raising her eyes flirtatiously up him. “You look great- the suit is fitting” cami told klaus bringing his attention to her. “It was on the house” “of course it was, that’s such a klaus thing” hailey spoke.
I watched as the girls tried getting his attention saying literally anything to make him look at them. I sat there in silence watching the show. The way they giggled when he addressed them. Made me feel sick.
His hand fell on my shoulder.
“The real reason I came over was to ask you to dance” he told me staring into my eyes with that famous klaus smile on his mouth. “You- want to dance with me?” I stuttered in shock he’d picked me out of all the girls here. Me and klaus had a complicated relationship. We’d slept together a few times and we’d stop and talk to each other if we bumped into one another but it was a casual thing. I didn’t think he’d choose to dance with me.
“Of course you can have me for a dance, I’m just going to find the restroom and then I’ll look for you” I nodded at him with a little smile on my face. “I’ll be waiting” he took my hand and planted a kiss softly before vamping off back into the party.
“He’s so fucking gorgeous” hailey threw her head back groaning. “Literally heaven sent- god took his time with that man” Caroline laughed. “I’m definitely going to cut in for a dance after” Haliey looked over at me.
She didn’t say it maliciously. It wasn’t condescending, she was just being genuine and letting me know her plans. “Mmm not if I get there first” cami wiggled her eyebrows. “The things I’d do to him if he’d let me”. The girls giggled to each other, making me wonder which one of them would get him. They were all attractive girls each having their own personality and opinions, he’d be a fool to not pick one of them.
“I’m off to the bathroom ladies” I smiled standing up. “Come on girl we aren’t going to let you go in your own” Caroline told me bouncing up from her seat. I tipped the last of drink down my throat before saying. “Great because I have no clue where it is and this house is massive” I laughed as we made our way inside. Us four climbed the stairs taking a left as a gut feeling. “It must be around here somewhere” cami shrugged looking at the mass of doors.
“Try this one” hailey opened one of the doors, but it was just a libary. Full of old books from the ceiling to the floor. “Boring” she slammed the door closed making us laugh. “What about this one” Caroline pulled open the door opposite to it. “Woah- it’s not the bathroom but…” she blinked looking inside. “What is it?” Hailey sped to the door looking inside. Her face became mesmerised and slowly she started walking in. The two girls followed, I felt a bit odd snooping around his house.
It felt wrong. But when I saw what was in the room it felt like privacy didn’t really matter to klaus as much as i thought it did. The room was full of art work, paintings on easels, on the walls, everywhere. They were all of the same thing. Me.
The girls looked at me and I gazed around the room, my eyes were wide in awe. There was portraits, some where I was standing in felids or other dimensions. They were so creative. The ones that caught my attention the most were the nude ones.
I remembered the set I had on in one of the paintings, he’d put me in a position lying me on the bed with a rose in my mouth. They were so creative so extraordinary. He’d only seen my body a few times yet he got it so spot on. The detail and time that had been put into it was incredible.
“Fuck” hailey whispered under her breath as reality sank in. Cami bit her lip looking around the room. Her eyes were sad almost. “Did you pose for him? Did you know he did these?” Caroline asked me quietly.
I shook my head still in shock. “I had no idea about any of these” “they are all of you- every single one of them- there must be over a hundred” cami whispered not even looking at me. “What does this mean?” Hailey turned to me with a raised eyebrow. “I’m going to go find out” I swallowed and before waiting for anyone to say something
I was out of the room and running down the stairs. My eyes scanned the room for him and eventually spotted him talking to a large group of vampires.
I ran towards him swerving past people left, right and centre. Klaus noticed me straight away and stopped his conversation. “Why are you running? What happened?” He quizzed with a worried gleam in his eyes. His hand fell to my arm. “Klaus- why’s there a room full of paintings of me?” I pannted under my breath. I asked him straight out not caring for him to judge me. He’d be a hypocrite to cuss me for breaking boundaries or privacy.
He just smiled before moving his hand to my face. “Because I want you y/n” he breathed out staring into my eyes. My heart skipped a beat. It punched me in my chest. My stomach flipped as those words filled my ears. “Me?” I blinked as my chest rose. “You have three beautiful girls pining for you and…” “and I want you” he cut me off shaking his head slightly. “All I want is you y/n”. In that moment I lept towards him, pushing my face onto his.
Our lips met in sync and the hand that was on my arm moved to my hip. Klaus pulled me closer to his body. Softly but passionately kissing me back. “Klaus” I whispered pulling only an inch away and leaning my forehead on his. “I want you”. “You’ve got me” he told me kissing my forehead before placing his back against mine.
His eyes wondered from me to the stair case where hailey, Caroline and cami stood watching us. I turned to look at them. They tried to hide the fact they weren’t happy about us being together but they didn’t do it incredibly well.
In that moment the music switched on. Klaus caught my eye again as people started getting ready for it. “May I take you for a dance m’lady” he smirked putting his arm out. “Of course you can handsome” I smiled linking arms with him. And with that we made our way to the face floor smitten with each other.

I never really know how to request things but I’m going to try bc I love your writing!
One of my favorite tropes of all time is touch starved best friends to lovers who are pretty much already in a relationship but are denying it to themselves and each other!!!
I would love to see something like that for Matt (who reader knows is Daredevil) where everyone (especially poor Foggy) is ready to hit them over the head with one of Matt’s batons.
As long as it has a happy ending I will adore it 💜💜💜💜
(Hopefully I did this right lol)
hii!! not to worry, you did it right!! and thank u smm<3 love love LOVE that trope too! thanks for requesting, hope you like it💌

Admitting the truth is hard, but even more so when it's to yourself. Knowing that one day you'd have to profess the feelings you've been containing, rather than the comfort of denial - pretending like your friendship with Matt hasn't progressed into something more romantic.
Developing a romantic interest in your best friend is uncharted territory - it's often unrequited and something most people tell you to avoid. You'd listen if you could, but you were far beyond that point now.
Over the last couple of months, you and Matt would unknowingly test the waters - hang out more by yourselves, leave a lingering touch on the small of each other's backs, or hug a little longer when saying goodbye. All these little things you'd usually do as friends, but now more elevated, like there was a new meaning behind each touch and smile.
But, it was like you were both holding back, keeping parts withdrawn, not wanting to be repudiated- as if you were scared of your feelings being unreciprocated, though you were clearly on the same page.
You and Matt would share these moments that were often difficult to convey to others - uneasy to share with his friends and your own. When you and Matt were together, it was like you were in a bubble - in your own safe, little world, and if you let others take a peek inside, you were scared they'd ruin it for you.
You thought you were keeping things inconspicuous - hidden, though you'd often hear Matt's friends making light remarks about your situation. Foggy saying about those times when he caught you dropping off lunch for Matt at work or Karen mentioning how you look at him. You'd repeatedly tell them that you were just friends, and it wasn't how they were thinking, though they'd never believe a word out of your mouth.
So one night, after deciding enough is enough, you let yourself into Matt's apartment while he was out on patrol, setting the table with Thai takeout you had picked up. You wanted to have an impromptu date night, your first official one as a couple. All you had to do now was ask him to be your boyfriend.

Favorite tmf ships?
I really enjoy these ones:
Drake: These toxic ahh boys are what hooked me into writing, i like their content & the absolutely massive selection of opportunities for them in fics has kept me quite busy outside of posting what i write on tumblr.
Milliott: Meathead x nerdy loser will always be a dynamic i adore. i love how they developed together over the course of the spinoff episode and would appreciate seeing more of them in proceeding episodes (spinoff or not)
Lander: I LOVE THE GAY CREATURES but fr tho they’re so healthy and zander’s just trying his best and luke is so supportive like DUDE I GO FERAL FOR THAT I LOVE HAPPY COUPLES RAHHHHH!!!!!!
Henriam: ok so like, how can they not be gay cuz every time they interact i always get the vibe they “practice kissing for when they meet real girls” whenever they have sleepovers. i could see them playing tons of games together and they most likely know the other like the back of their hand.
Driam: OKOK I REALLY LIKE THIS ONE TOO OK like i’m sorry but liam being a less-toxic jake and more as a “i want to help you and be there for you and i could never lie to you” cuz to be fair he didn’t lie to drew about zoey he just ✨withheld information for the greater good✨
Jailey: i’m sorry it’s like choosing vanilla in an ice cream store but watching jake redeem himself with the music club to have hailey see what he’s truly like and loving jake for himself and not whatever show he put on for the dromies is something that feels really reassuring, so i guess im not really sorry lol
those i’ve seen a good bit on and love the dynamics of them all. once again thanks @rosypenguins for the introduction to the fandom :3

Your body felt like it was on fire, it had already been two times that Steven had edged you. He was determined to get you to orgasm but only when he decided it. Both Marc and Jake decided to teach him a bit how to be dominant. And god, their tips were so useful.
Steven had your naked body on his lap moving you against his thigh, while whispering filthy things into your ear. "Keep your eyes on me, and let me hear those pretty noises you make dove." You opened your eyes slowly looking into Steven's dark brown eyes filled with need. His hands moved from your hips to your jaw to pill you into a messy but heated kiss. Tongues fighting for dominance, but he won, and you let yourself become louder with each sweet noise that came out of your mouth.
While Steven distracted you with his mouth pressed against yours, he let one hand slide down your body to your inner thigh, rubbing it slowly.
"Tell me what you need love. Come on, be a good girl and say it."
The ache in your core was getting so intense that just a few more rubs on your clit you would have had an orgasm. You grind your hips harder against his thigh which made a pathetic moan leave your mouth. You didn't care how needy and pathetic you looked right now, all you needed was to cum.
"I- I need to c-cum….so c-close p-please."
Something changed in Steven's dementor the moment your words left your mouth. "You’re quite eager, aren't you dove? You'll cum when I say so. Now get on your knees."
You did what he asked and you knew what Steven expected from you and you did just that. Steven couldn't hold back his moans of how skilled your mouth was around his cock.
Right when he was about to cum he pulled you away and he had to look away cause if not he would have came right there. Your face with dry tears on your cheeks, mascara smudged and you looked fucked.
Steven didn't even let you take a moment to calm down before he laid you on the bed and pushed his cock right inside your tight hole. Your eyes widen of how full he filled you up. It didn't matter the times Steven, Marc or Jake fucked you, you always needed a minute to get used to their size.
"S-Steven wait a c-condom". Even though you were on the pill and clean, you still worried about Steven not wearing protection.
"S-sorry love but I just got to feel y-you". Steven moved his hips slowly allowing you adjust to the feeling before making slow but hard thrust into you, making you become a mess. Whimpers and whines noises fill the bedroom. The shame and embarrassment left your body and mind the moment Steven started hitting your g-spot.
You were so close to your orgasm that you held onto Steven's bicep. "You like that? Love how I'm stretching you out, love?"
The only thing you were able to do was nod. You arched your back and the new angle Steven was hitting that spongy spot inside of you made you get messages from the stars.
Your vision went blank as you reached your orgasm and you opened your mouth to let out a moan but nothing came out. After a few more thrust Steven pulled out and came on your stomach leaving quite the mess on you.
Steven laid beside you and took your body to embrace whispering word of praises and admiration for you in your ear. Slowly the both of you falling asleep in each other's arms.

Jay Halstead x daughter
Heyyy this is my first time in a while writing a story and I feel like my writing isn’t as good as it used to be, that’s also why this one shot is so short <3
Words: 580
Warnings: not proof read, mentions of blood and hospitalization
Summary: Jay’s daughter has her first period and is a bit unsure of how to handle it, so he calls his brother Will for help.
Tumblr media
Raising a teenage daughter on your own wasn't always easy and Jay Halstead knew that better than anyone, cuz he had a 14 year old daughter named Emily. Despite all the ups and downs and sometimes quite heavy fights and disagreements, hear and Jay were close and Emily was also close to her uncle Will and few others from both Firehouse 51, Intelligence and Med.
It was an early morning in Chicago when Emily woke because of some stomach cramps. She rolled up on her side and curled into fetal position and just laid like that for a minutes until her dad came in to wake her up before he left for work. But concern spreader over Jay's face as he saw the distressed state his daughter was in, he gently approached her and sat down in the edge of her bed pulling some of her out of her face behind her ear as he caressed her arm lightly.
"What's wrong pumpkin?" He asked in a gentle tone as Emily could barely move due to the pain in her stomach who kept intensifying.
"It's my stomach. It really hurts. Can we call uncle Will?" Emily asked her brother curling up even more as Jay felt her forehead which was burning up a bit.
"Oh sweetie, you're burning up. Let's get you checked up" Jay said as he pulled the covers of Emily to carry her down to his truck when he saw the blood on the bed as he started panicking and took out his phone to call Will.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Will, it's Emily. She woke up with severe stomach pain and when I removed her covers there was a lot of blood on the sheets and she can barely move. She's just laying in her all curled up, I'm bringing her in"
"Okay, based on your description it sounds like experience her first period. I'll be ready for you when you get here"
"Okay thank you Will"
Jay said as he hung up the phone and went back over to his daughter as he gently he shamed her arm but she didn't react to it, he tried again a little harder this time as she slowly opened her eyes and immediately felt the pain again as Jay gently picked her up trying to not move her too much as he carried her down to his truck and got her buckled up as he wrapped her in her favorite blanket calling Hailey while driving off towards Med telling her he wouldn't be in today.
Arriving at Med Jay picked up Emily who was still wrapped in the blanket as she clung to her dad when Will came over with a gurney as Jay placed his daughter on it but she refused to let go of him.
“Come on, Ems. You gotta let go so Will can take a look at you just like you asked for earlier” Jay said in a calm tone as Emily loosened her grip on Jay and Will wheeled her into a treatment room.
“Emily” Will said calmly getting the attention of his niece as she was struggling to keep her eyes open.
“I’m gonna give you some pain relievers and April is gonna come in and give you some fluid. So now I suggest you get some rest princess and I’ll be back to check on later” Will said kissing the top of his nieces head as he went out and closed the door

Hi
I just wanted to tell you that I love your writing so much!!!!
Also I was wondering if you could please write a Jay Helstead x little sister reader??
Like maybe Jay has had custody of her since she was a baby and now she starts asking questions about their parents. Like why it has only ever been Jay taking care of her and where is her mom? Maybe the reader is like 6, just started kindergarten and maybe this is what stems the question asking (other kids talking about their own parents and asking why the reader only ever talks about Jay)
Thank you for all that you do
this is 100% your choice and feel free to make any changes
Hi! Thanks for requesting! I hope you like it, it kind of went dark! I'm also enjoying playing around with writing time skips, so I hope you enjoy that (if not, sorry)
TW: mention of past abuse, mention of death during childbirth
Title: Why?
“Why” you asked while you sat down to eat your cereal.
Almost dropping the coffee pot, you watched as your brother Jay placed it back on the machine and sighed, “I thought we left this stage when you were 3”
“No, why” you tried again, beginning to whine when your brother didn’t understand your vague question.
Sitting across from you at the table, Jay placed his coffee down and asked, “why, what? I need more than just a word.”
You chewed your cereal bite and swallowed before you wiped your mouth with the back of your hand.
“Why is it just you and me and occasionally Will? What happened to mommy and daddy?”
Jay knew this day was coming. Though he was hoping it wouldn’t happen until you were at least out of elementary school. But he should have known better, 6yr olds are relentless if he remembered his time in school correctly.
“Uh, just because it was easier this way. Can I ask where this is coming from?”
***
“And where did she say it was coming from?” asked Hailey, while the two of them sat in the surveillance van watching the corner store for their suspect.
Continuing the look through the binoculars, Jay responded, “some of her friends were talking about how they were excited for some donuts and dads party their class is having in a few weeks.”
“Okay, follow up question, what did you tell her when she asked?” asked Hailey, putting a pin in the stupid class party that definitely is leaving kids who don’t have dads out.
Turning to face his partner, he wiped his hand down his face and sighed, “I panicked and told her it was easier this way.”
“Jay. You didn’t answer her question at all.”
“I know, but what was I supposed to say? Hey Y/N, you live with me because mom died during childbirth and dad went off the rails and abused you mentally for the first 3 yrs of your life and it wasn’t until I came home from the War that I realized how bad it had got and now dad is in jail and you have a restraining order against him where if he comes within 50 ft of you, I’m allowed to tackle him and call the police on him? Yea, I’ll pass”
Laughing slightly at her partner's bluntness, Hailey replied, “I’m not saying say all that to your 6yr old sister. But I do think she deserves some explanation”
When she notices her partner opening his mouth to protest, she adds,
“Age appropriate Jay. Age appropriate.”
**
You were sitting at the kitchen table coloring, while your babysitter for the evening, Stella, was putting together your after school snack.
“Okay munchkin, here is your snack” she said as she placed your apple slices and peanut butter beside you. Seeing your paper she asked curiously, “what ya coloring there?”
Not looking up you replied, “a picture duh”
“Okay sassy pants” was all Stella replied before walking away trying to process what you drew.
When Jay got home, he thanked Stella and walked her to the door.
“Thanks again, Eva was stuck studying for her final exams and I didn’t want her to be torn away every few minutes to deal with the monkey”
While shrugging on her coat, Stella smiled, “it’s no problem. I like hanging out with Y/N. Though, I don’t know what’s going on with her, but she was drawing some interesting pictures this afternoon”
That caught Jay’s attention, “interesting how?” he probed.
“Nothing bad, just she was drawing a shadowy figure outside the house, you, Will, and her were inside, but she was crying in her drawing.”
Sighing, Jay replied, “thanks”
And with that Stella left and he shut the door behind her and turned around.
“Now or never” he muttered.
Walking over to where you were eating dinner, Jay sat down.
“Do you want to hear about why it’s just you and me and occasionally Will?”
You looked up from your spaghetti, “Yes!” you just about screamed while nodding your head insistently.
“Okay, so when you were being born, mommy was not very well. The doctors had to make a decision. And I want you to know the decision that was made is not and will never be your fault.”
You felt tears prick your eyes, “mommy died?”
Jay felt his own eyes prick, “Yes, but I will tell you as many stories about her. Whenever you want. And I bet you, Will, will too , if you ask him nicely.”
You stared for a few moments taking everything in. “Okay, so that explains mommy. What about daddy?”
Jay didn’t really know how to appropriately tell you that your dad had abused you, so he went with a toddler age appropriate response and hoped you wouldn’t probe for more.
“So, when mommy died, I went away right”
“To fight a war!” you inserted!
Nodding, Jay kept going, “yes, to fight a war. So it was just you and dad. But dad was really sad about mom and he did some bad things. Will and I didn’t know what these bad things entailed until I came home and Will came back from school for the summer.”
“Bad things?” you inquired.
Mentally screaming fuck, Jay calmly replied, “he was hurting and took it out on others and was just not being a good dad. So he had to go away for a long time.”
“But why you? Why not Will or grandma or grandpa?” you probed.
“Will was still in school and wasn’t in a good spot to care for himself, go to school, and care for you. Grandma and Grandpa both have their own slew of health issues and we thought it would be better if they didn’t have to restart the parenting process. I had come home from the war for good by that time and it was decided I had the most stable housing and money coming in. So that’s how it was decided it would be me, you, and occasionally Will.”
You thought for a few minutes, taking in everything you just learned. When you finally slipped out of your chair, came around the table and hugged your brother exclaiming, “thank you” over and over again.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Masterlist
The words had caught both Jay and Hailey off guard, the revelation that she knew their secret caused the blood to drain from Jay's face as he was at a loss for words.
She knew.
She knew.
This whole time, she knew, and she never said a word. She let herself suffer quietly.
He looked at the tears that streamed down her face, her wide eyes and trembling hands - he broke her. There was no other way to put it, she seemed fearful of even breathing in his presence.
Perhaps that was the worst part - Aurora was not only angry or disappointed. No, she was also terrified of being hurt by him. Again.
The question came out before he could stop it, making himself seem like an even bigger fool as everyone in the bar sent pitying looks towards Aurora, he asked, "how?" How did she know? Did she see them? Hear a rumour? See their texts?
If he could take back the question, he would.
If he could take back his actions, he would.
Aurora simply shook her head, the action causing her tears to fall more vigorously as a strained laugh escaped her. She stumbled backwards, heading towards the exit before Jay could stop her once more. On her way out, her heart heavy with unease and agony, she whispered an apology to Brett. But it seemed Brett and her friends were more concerned for the girl than the interrupted party.
Hailey's hand was still on his back. The feeling of her palm against him began to burn, and he wrenched himself away from her touch, away from her side. And he went after Aurora.
He pushed through the crowd, ignoring the looks of betrayal on the faces of his teammates, the look of disappointment in the eyes of his friends, and most of all, the petulant voice of Hailey who called after him in indignation.
Jay had found Aurora at her car, hands fumbling with the keys as she struggled to see through her tears. He raced towards her, his heart on fire at the sound of her muffled sobs. He reached around her, a hand wrapping itself around one of her own and her set of keys.
"You can't drive like this, Aurora. Baby, it's not safe. Please."
The feeling was so familiar to Aurora, his warm embrace and loving touch - a sensation she had begun to crave when she first gave into her heart's desires and let Jay into her life. And for a moment, she lost herself in the nostalgia, in the feeling of him being so close to her after feeling nothing for so long.
But the sound of a disgruntled blonde had followed Jay out of Molly's, the woman thrown off by the glares and judgements handed down to her from friends and colleagues. Hailey had left the bar hoping to convince Jay to come back home with her, to let her lick his wounds as he did her's. To reassure him that they would get through this and be stronger as one, and in time, everyone would forget what had happened and accept them.
It just so happened that Jay had his own idea of how things should play out, and they did not include Hailey.
The sound of her voice calling out his name brought back the memories of that night, of her lover pressed up against another, lost in the pleasures of his own unforgiveable actions. And just like that, Jay's touch had lost all its warmth.
Because the Jay that stood in front of her, a pleading grip on her hands, was not the Jay she had said yes to all those months ago - no, she had lost her Jay. And not when he had decided to sleep with Hailey, she had lost her Jay the moment Hailey joined the Intelligence Department.
As ignorant as he may be to it, and despite all the denial his heart may be full of, Jay Halstead was intrigued by Hailey, he has been since the moments she climbed up those stairs and helped them on their first case.
Aurora couldn't compete with that. Can't compete with that.
She wishes she could. Wishes her eyes shone like Hailey's so Jay could lose himself in them, wishes her hair was brighter than Hailey's so she could stand out like her, wishes she wasn't so extraordinarily plain that Jay's betrayal to her was so easy.
Jay's words snapped her out of her thoughts, his voice pushing her to pull her hand out of his grasp, but his grip was relentless - "I'm so sorry, Rory."
Aurora couldn't help the strangled cry that escaped her at the sound of that name, a name he would whisper into the darkness, hidden behind his confessions of love and admiration. She shook her head, "no, you're not. You're sorry you got caught."
Her voice was raw and exhausted. She had worn herself out holding all these feelings inside of her and pretending everything was okay. And now that the truth was out, she felt herself full of dread and weariness.
Jay shook his head vehemently, ignoring the way Hailey shuffled to his side, hoping to interject, "no. No, no, no. It was a mistake. I love you. I'm so sorry, there's no excuse but it was one time and I regret it every day."
The confession had deflated every ounce of ego Hailey had previously held, "you regret it?"
Hailey's eyes were painted in disbelief, but Jay met her head-on, his eyes empty as he regarded her - "I wish I didn't touch you that night. I wish I didn't let you in."
Hailey could feel her eyes well with tears, taking a glance towards the bar her heart beat faster in mortification when she saw that the three of them had an audience.
She tried to scrape up any sense of decency she had left, no longer able to look Jay or Aurora in the eyes as she cleared her throat, her voice oddly quiet, "I'm going to go."
As she left, she couldn't help but throw glances over her shoulder, hoping one of them would meet Jay's and the sight of her in anguish would cause him to come running back.
That didn't seem to be the case, as Jay's eyes were glued to the Aurora, who's face twisted in defeat - "if you loved me, you wouldn't have fucked her."
She would repeat it a hundred times if she had to, Jay betrayed her. That wasn't love.
"It was a mistake. I was drunk and she came over, she told me she liked me- she kissed me and- she, I don't know."
"That's not an excuse," her voice broke as she raised it an octave, "Jay you have had weeks to distance yourself from her. You've had weeks to pick the woman you say you love over the woman you fucked. And still, you spent every waking minute with her."
"I was scared," it was a hesitant confession, "I didn't know if you were angry at me because you found out or because I did something wrong. I- I couldn't make sense of it, any of it. But it was wrong of me, I know. I'm so sorry."
"Stop saying that! You keep saying you're sorry, but you've had weeks to be sorry. Why now, Jay? Why apologise now? Why tell me you love me now? Why pick me now?"
Jay couldn't find the words to explain, truthfully he didn't have the words to explain. It was a mistake, but his mistake hurt her in unimaginable ways. And he hadn't made amends after, he didn't tell her the truth, he didn't stay away from Hailey. No, he got pissed off at Aurora instead. God, he was an idiot.
Aurora's eyes flickered between his, as though she was searching for something within them. Her frustration grew when she could not find her answer, and her frustration turned to heartache.
She reached up with her free hand, cradling Jay's face gently. The action prompted him to free her other hand, hopeful she would not run from him. Hopeful she understood and hopeful she had forgiven.
Both her hands came to hold his face, her skin soft against the planes of his jaw and cheeks, her thumbs gently tracing the angles and lines on his face. She pulled him down towards her, leaning up to place her forehead against his, Jay's eyes closed at the sensation as hope simmered in his chest.
"Jay..."
The quiet whisper prompted him to open his eyes, to lose himself in the eyes of the girl who held his heart. Her eyes were drowning, so consumed by emotions, they were red and tired, full of unshed tears as the next words came to her, "was I not enough?"
Jay's eyes shut again, this time in anguish. Try as he might to stop them, tears escaped from his eyes and a stifled cry escaped as he spoke, "you're more than enough, my love. I'm the idiot, I'm the one who's not enough. You're everything to me and more, baby."
"Then why did you hurt me?"
Jay had no answer. It was true, what he had been saying all this time, he had seen Hailey as a friend. That night she came to his apartment, she was upset and in need of support and Jay had one too many beers that he didn't realise she wasn't talking about needing a friend until her lips had pressed against his own.
He lost himself in the feeling of a warm body, lost himself in the feelings of his own desires.
The thoughts tormented him, eating at him and taunting him because he had no excuse. No plausible reason for him to choose Hailey over Aurora. Yet, he still had.
He pulled himself away from Aurora, head shaking forcefully as he tried to get rid of the mocking thoughts. He heard a sniffle behind him, before a shaky sigh was released.
Aurora took his behaviour as an answer in itself, his inability to answer her was more telling than anything else. She composed herself, wiping her tears and steadying her breaths. A grim smile pulled at her lips, "it's okay. I get it. I do."
Aurora wasn't enough.
She unlocked her car and sat inside, reaching out to pull the door shut. She took one final glance at Jay, his back turned towards her as his shoulders were hunched over. Aurora could see how his body wracked at the silent cries he tried to hold back, his guilt overwhelming him.
Goodbye Jay.
***
Jay can't remember how he got home last night. His last traces of those hours began with a firm hand placed on his shoulder, and a glance up confirmed that it was Kevin.
Kevin looked disappointed in Jay's actions, but he could see his friend was in need of support. He couldn't leave Jay to wallow.
Guilt ate at Kevin at the thought, knowing that he and his friends had been more than happy to leave Aurora to her thoughts, and let her be consumed by whatever was troubling her.
Still, he would not repeat his mistakes.
Kevin guided Jay back to Molly's, encouraging him to take a seat. The occupants of the bar stared at him, various glares of anger and disgust were sent his way as he began to drink - one after the other. If it were up to Jay, he would've sat at Molly's drinking until the bar had closed, and when it had he would've gone to find another.
Instead, he was back at his place, waking up to a pounding headache and aching back as he laid astrew on the couch.
Jay moved slow, purposefully ignoring the memories of the night before as they seared themselves into his mind, forcing him to relive the pain and agony he had endured what feels like only moments ago.
Jay walked into his room, getting ready for the day. All the while, he ignored the bed that sat neatly behind him knowing the last person he had there with him was Hailey, on the night he wanted to forget the most.
He had tainted his most revered place, had wiped away Aurora's scent and defiled the place they were most affectionate to each other. The extra space of the bed was supposed to be Aurora's, and he had taken that from her - alongside her heart, which he had broken and burnt.
Time ticked by sluggishly as he drove to the department. His heart skipped beats as he ignored his throbbing head, but his hands felt numb and his head was swimming with dreadful thoughts and possibilities of what would happen when he saw Aurora in only a few short minutes.
Would she look at him with pitiful eyes? Would she make snide remarks? Would she be angry at him? Or would she continue to ignore him, as though he never existed?
The idea of such things happening continued to plague him, his body moving on its own accord as he found himself walking up the stairs to the Intelligence Department. It seemed he was the first one there.
Jay looked towards Aurora's desk, suddenly feeling uneasy and alarmed.
Aurora's desk sat bare, picture frames and trinkets removed leaving the desktop bare. He stumbled his way to the desk, hands almost twitching as he threw open every draw only to find them empty.
His heart lodged itself in his throat, he could feel a familar burn sting at his eyes as he shook his head in denial, "no..."
He continued to mumble to himself as he looked around the office, only for his eyes to land on a small white box on his desk.
The box couldn't have been bigger than the palm of his hand, and worry brewed within him as he began to pull the box apart to reveal its contents.
Inside sat a necklace, it shone gold in the artificial light and as Jay held it up in front of him he could make out the word inscribed on it - Aurora.
Jay had bought it for her a few weeks into them working as partners. It didn't take long for the pair to divulge their secrets and fears, and one of the most memorable ones had been when Aurora had confessed that after all those years she had spent living lives that were not her own, she was troubled by the idea she would no longer remember her name. Her biggest fear was losing herself.
Jay had bought her the necklace the very next day, he had told her as long as she had him he wouldn't let her forget who she was, he wouldn't let her lose herself and Jay promised, as he placed the necklace around her neck, that he would travel to the ends of the world and back to find her, if he needed to.
His hands clenched around the necklace, his face falling as he brought it close to his chest, his knuckles blanching at the force he held them with - she had left her necklace behind, had taken all her stuff.
It only meant one thing.
Jay could feel the urge to look into Voight's office, and a part of him was terrified to face the truth.
But he had to know. He had to know if he lost her, if she was well and truly gone.
And a glance into Voight's office had confirmed exactly that.
***
When the rest of the team had gathered in the office, they had stood frozen by the stairs. They were already worried about the scene they would find when they made their way into the office, wondering how the odd dynamic between Aurora, Jay and Hailey would now work.
It seemed they didn't need to worry about Aurora though, because in Voight's office sat Jay. Alone.
Jay had a haunted look painted across his face, his eyes swollen and red as they looked down passively at the desk, his hands pressed firmly against his chest, as though he was holding something close to his heart.
As the team mads their way closer to Voight's office, their concern for Jay grew stronger. Jay's eyes never strayed from the objects that laid in front of him - her gun, badge and letter of resignation.
She was gone.
She had left.
And it was all Jay's fault.
He made her feel like she was not enough.
Goodbye Aurora.

Nelson & Murdock
With Karen away and Foggy at a wedding with Marci, it was only you and Matt this Friday—the Friday of the bar dinner, which Matt was taking you as his plus one.
All day, the two of you seemed to be strangely avoiding the topic. You’d drop off files at Matt’s desk and quietly walk away. He’d open his mouth to say something and then tell you never mind. Matt decided to skip lunch and get a head start on work for Monday, while you stepped out to grab a sandwich. It wasn’t awkward at the office—just more tense than usual. You weren’t even sure how you’d be getting there tonight—if Matt was picking you up with a driver or you were getting a taxi by yourself.
It was nearly two in the afternoon, and neither of you had brought it up yet. Even though it was tonight!
You sat at your desk with a pencil in hand and a brief in front of you. You mindlessly drew scribbles in the margins, thinking of all of this, when suddenly Matt came out of his office. His tie swayed gently in front of him as he reached out to feel for the doorway. His eyes were hidden behind his dark red glasses. When he stopped to talk to you, you smiled at him.
“Hey,” you said.
“Hey,” Matt replied. “I was uh, thinking—about tonight.”
“Oh yeah, me too,” you replied perhaps a little too quickly.
Matt gave an uncomfortable smile and scratched the back of his neck. “I was just on the phone with Foggy—he said it was alright if I got a driver for us on the firm card. Takes us there and back. That is if you don’t already have plans of getting there.”
“No, I don’t have plans,” you answered. “I figure it makes the most sense if we go together, right?”
“Right,” Matt affirmed. “Well then, I’ll call the company now. Maybe be ready by six? It’s pretty slow today, without Karen and Foggy. I was thinking we could close early so we can get ready.”
You perked at the mention of the office closing early. “That works for me. Sure, I’ll be ready by six.”
“Great, I’ll order the car then,” Matt was about to turn away, but you stopped him short.
“Don’t you need my address?”
Matt laughed uncomfortably, “Oh right, yes. What is it?”
“West 45th and 11th,” you told him. Matt nodded in response and went back to his office. After he made the call, Matt said you could go home to get ready.
“Do you need me to do anything before I go?” You asked Matt once more before heading out. He sat at his desk, laptop open and Orbit reader on. Matt shook his head.
“Just get home safely, that’s all. I’ll be at your apartment at six with the driver,” Matt smiled. You smiled, knocked on the wall of his office as a goodbye, and left for home.
You were thankful Matt let you go home early, because boy, did it take you a long time to get ready. You already had your dress laid out, but it was the decision of hairstyle and makeup that took you the longest.
After a long while of scrolling Pinterest for hair ideas and makeup looks, you finally decided that simplicity was best. You’d blow out your hair and curl the ends for an effortlessly natural look. For makeup, you decided on a very, very soft glam.
Never mind your hair and makeup—it was your dress that was the star of the show. When you picked it off the rack, you thought nothing of it. You loved its dark red color and leg slit, square neckline, and thin straps. But it wasn’t until you tried it on, with your hair and makeup done, that you really thought you made the right decision in choosing it.
The dress fit you flawlessly—it hugged every curve of your body, and it cascaded beautifully at your waist with the slit teasing a glimpse of your skin. You twisted from side to side to see it from each angle. And despite feeling beautiful in this dress, despite having an opportunity to meet other lawyers in the city, you couldn’t help but wonder what your savior would’ve thought if he saw you in this dress.
Immediately scrapping the thought away, you checked the time. It was a half hour to six—Matt would be here soon.

Your friends were getting ready for their own night out in the city and they wouldn’t let you leave until you took one tequila shot with them. Hannah was the one who suckered you into doing it—she said you needed to loosen up before schmoozing with the big shots. You took one small shot of tequila, enough to calm your nerves for the evening.
Then, your phone vibrated in your purse. Matt Murdock.
“Hello?” You shushed your friends as they began to laugh.
“I’m here with the driver,” Matt said on the line, “are you ready?”
“As I’ll ever be,” you slipped on your black heels and waved goodbye to your friends. “I’ll be right out.”
After you entered the elevator, you glanced at yourself in the dainty mirror. You normally felt a rush in your chest when you went out with your friends, but this time, the rush was different. You weren’t going out with your friends, so you were absent of that familiar feeling. It was a rush that reminded you of the times you’d meet your savior on your roof. A feeling you’ve missed over the past few weeks. No time for thinking of that.
When you stepped out of the lobby, you were surprised to see Matt through the doors of your apartment building, standing in a tuxedo against the door of the car. He had his cane in his hands in front of him, and his head was tilted down toward the pavement. When he heard you open the door of the building and the bell chimed, he looked up behind his dark red glasses and stood up more straight. Matt smiled, and you weren’t going to lie—he looked quite handsome in his tuxedo, so much that his smile could’ve made you melt right there.
“Thanks for getting me,” you said, breaking a small silence. “You look really nice, Matt.”
Matt seemed taken aback by your compliment. He stammered with his thank you and smiled again.
“Thank you,” he finally said. “Let me get the door for you.” He turned around and opened the car door, letting you inside. You walked carefully in your heels—it’s been a while since you’ve worn them—and you almost slipped on a pebble, had Matt not quickly grabbed your waist and steadied you. His hands felt warm and strong through the thin fabric of your dress. You gasped as you grabbed onto his arm to pull yourself together.
“Sorry,” you breathed.
“It’s okay,” Matt said softly. “I’ve got you.”
You stepped into the large black car and settled in the seat. You smiled at the driver who smiled at you in return through the rearview window.
“Well, don’t you look awfully pretty,” the older man said. Matt climbed into the car on the opposite side and smiled. “Doesn’t she look—“ and when the driver remembered Matt’s disability, he shut his mouth. Matt chuckled in response and told him it was okay.
“I’m sure he’s right,” Matt said after some time and you were on your way to the dinner.
“Hm?” You hummed in response, caught off guard.
“That you look pretty,” Matt explained, cane folded and resting in his lap. He fiddled with the strap at the top. “I’m sure you look very pretty.”
Your heart grew in your chest at this, the sweetness of Matt’s words and tenderness in his voice, almost shy. You smiled to yourself.
“Oh, it’s okay,” you argued gently. You didn’t want him to feel compelled to compliment you—you weren’t fishing for compliments. “You don’t—you don’t have to—“
“I mean it,” Matt interrupted you. “I—well, what kind of dress are you wearing? What color is it? I can… paint a picture in my mind.”
You paused for a moment, letting his words sink in. It probably meant a lot to him, to describe little things like this. And he seemed genuinely interested. Who were you to refuse?
“Well, my dress is long. It has a slit on one side. It has a square neckline with thin straps. It’s a dark red color. Almost maroon. I love this color,” you said the last part aloud, not meaning to.
“I’m sure the color looks beautiful on you,” Matt said.
“Thank you,” you blushed. “I love it.” You started to wonder… and you remember Matt mentioning an accident in the past, but had he always been blind? And as if he read your mind, Matt spoke up again.
“I haven’t always been blind,” he spoke quietly. “It was an accident from when I was a kid. So, I know maroon. If you’re wondering.”
“I was,” you said honestly. He hummed in response.
After a few more lights and a couple more blocks, the driver finally pulled up to the venue of the bar dinner. You looked at the stunning building in amazement behind the tinted windows of the car.
“Are we here?” Matt asked.
You nodded your head. “I believe so.”

The Bar Dinner
Walking up the steps to the venue was half the battle. It was like nearly every attorney and law firm in New York City was at this event—crowds of people lined the steps, people coming in and out to have a smoke on the terrace or meet colleagues. You and Matt finally managed to make it past security and joined more guests inside.
You were hit with an immediate mix of colognes and perfumes—men dressed in fancy suits and women dressed in extravagant gowns. You were relieved to see their gowns—you were afraid your dress was too much—but clearly, it wasn’t enough. These people all seemed to know each other, whether they were colleagues from law school or opposing counsels—it seemed they left their differences in the courtroom. It was apparent that you stood out like a sore thumb, being one of the youngest people at the event. Many of them were older folks or Matt’s age.
You quickly scanned the crowd and found no one as young as you—fresh out of college and only studying to get into law school. You felt your heart rate pick up and suddenly felt very self-conscious. You felt Matt’s hand touch your elbow for guidance.
“Should we get a drink?”
“Yes,” you said, almost too quickly. There was an opening at the bar, and you guided yourself and Matt to it. All the bartenders wore the same thing: white button-downs and black vests. Men had their hair slicked back and women had their hair in a bun.
You approached the bar and ordered yourself an espresso martini, while Matt opted for Macallan 18, neat. It was apparent both of you were ditching your normal orders from Josie’s, and for good reason: neither of you would be spending a dime tonight.
Matt leaned on his elbow at the bar and faced you.
“So,” he said, “What do you think so far?”
“I think I feel really out of place,” you confessed. “There are so many people here and they all look so…”
“Pretentious?”
“That sounds about right,” you giggled. “Yeah.”
The bartender placed your drinks at the bar, and Matt reached into his back pocket to leave a tip. Suddenly, you both heard someone call Matt’s name.
“Mr. Murdock,” a light, feminine voice called. From behind you came a tall woman, older, with a pixie cut and black hair. She wore a simple yet elegant black dress that had an open back, as opposed to the full coverage it gave up to her collarbone. To pair, she wore oval gold earrings and gold bracelets to match. “What a pleasure,” she said. She placed a soft hand on Matt’s shoulder and squeezed a bit before returning it to her side.
“Geri Hogarth,” Matt instantly recognized her voice with a smile. Your eyes widened at the name of Hogarth and you nervously sipped your martini.
“How’s Franklin?” She asked Matt as she sipped her own drink. You were curious what a prestige attorney chose as a beverage—it actually didn’t look like alcohol at all. Maybe a Diet Coke?
“Foggy’s doin’ well. I think he’s happier being back in the streets,” Matt chuckled.
“He was so good for us, but I know that’s where he belongs. With you,” Geri added with a warm smile. She spoke so eloquently like she took her time to speak every syllable of a word. And when her dark brown eyes fell on you, you found yourself standing a bit taller, with your shoulders back. “I’m sorry, I don’t think we’ve met.” She stated.
“This is __,” Matt introduced you to Geri. “Our new legal assistant.”
“Ah,” Geri smiled at you and held out her delicate, freshly manicured hand. “It’s a pleasure. You’re in good hands at Nelson & Murdock, __.”
“Oh, I know it,” you agreed, beaming at her. “I really love it. I’ve learned so much from Matt, Foggy and Karen.”
“And are you thinking of law school?”
“I’m studying for the LSAT now,” you told Geri proudly. She held your gaze so carefully—you couldn’t break the eye contact.
She laughed and looked at Matt. “I sure don’t miss studying for that test.”
“I agree,” Matt smiled. “But __ is very smart. She’ll do better than us. She’s really impressed us all.”
“Really,” Geri raised her eyebrows, interested. “Well, Ms. __, if you ever choose to leave Nelson & Murdock and you’re interested in something different, let me know.” Geri reached into her small silver purse and pulled out a business card for you. You took it gratefully and immediately tucked it into your own bag.
“Stealing my legal assistant, are you?” Matt joked. “She’s ours.”
The way Matt said this made your heart skip in your chest. You played it off cooly and laughed. You smiled at Geri.
“Wow, definitely. Thank you, Ms. Hogarth,” you said amazed.
“Call me Geri,” she said. “It was lovely to meet you. I’m sure I will see you around.” With one last squeeze of Matt’s arm, Geri went off into the crowd. You looked at Matt in disbelief.
“I can’t believe I just met Geri freakin’ Hogarth!” You said excitedly. Matt chuckled and took a sip of his Macallan.
“She’s a great woman, great attorney,” Matt nodded. “It’s nice having a connection like that. All thanks to Foggy, though. Before we started our firm again, he was there for a while.”
“I had no idea,” you shook your head, “and she calls him Franklin?”
“That’s his real name,” Matt smiled. “We know him as Foggy, of course.”
“Listen, Matt—I’m not leaving yet, but rest assured I’m keeping Geri’s card for the future.”
“By all means,” Matt raised his hands in surrender, “but don’t leave us yet. We need you.”
“Oh, please.”
“It’s true,” Matt nodded.
“Well, you guys came at the right time in my life, too.”
Matt finished the rest of his drink. With his senses, he picked up that you were almost done with your martini. He gestured in your direction.
“Another espresso martini?”
“Please,” you said softly.
Matt ordered another round of drinks for you both and cheered with you.
“Do you want to schmooze with more pretentious lawyers of Manhattan?” Matt asked.
“I thought you’d never ask.”
⠋⠁⠊⠞⠓
Schmoozing was so easy—comical, but easy. Many, if not all, of the groups of men you and Matt decided to join, were drunk and on their fifth or sixth drink of night. And the dinner was only an hour in. Matt put his grievances with you in a box in his mind and tucked it far away to be able to enjoy this charade with you. He laughed behind his whiskey glass as you gassed up the drunken men who bragged about their mediocre wins in court. These men just loved to talk, and you loved to pretend you loved to listen.
Matt listened carefully to your heart beat—it was beating faster than normal, probably because of the loud setting and alcohol, but from the way you spoke with airiness in your tone, and your laugh, he knew you were happy right now. Happy to be at this event. Perhaps even happy with him.
You seemed to notice Matt listening carefully. He stood with his hand on his cane, the other holding his nearly empty third glass of Macallan. You boldly strutted over to him and grabbed Matt by his forearm, leading him away from the group of men without saying goodbye.
“What’s wrong?” Was Matt’s first question to ask on instinct. You were pulling him away, and he was too focused on you to pick up on if anything was going wrong.
“Nothing,” you giggled softly. “I just got bored. Let’s bother the next group.”
Matt laughed and nodded, finishing the last of his Macallan. You finished your martini as well.
“Actually, before then, let me get us some drinks,” you suggested, feeling the alcohol swish in your system. “I’ll be right back. Stay here.”
When you took the glass from Matt’s hands, your fingertips brushed against him, and an undeniable feeling of connection spread across both your palms. He wanted to ignore it, but he couldn’t, your touch was so distinguishable. It reminded him of how depraved of it he was.
“Okay,” Matt said, a serious demeanor falling over his entire body. For a moment, he was reminded of all he put you through. He was reminded of that dreadful night on your rooftop when he yelled at you, all because you wanted to know the truth. And here you were, with no idea that it was him. What would you even say?
It didn’t matter. You were on your way to the bar, pushing past people and politely smiling your way through. It was no doubt so many of the people would love you. You were charming, one of the younger attendees of the crowd, and so ambitious. Matt waited patiently and listened to your heartbeat so he knew you arrived at the bar safely, even if it was only a few feet away. He closed his eyes behind his dark red glasses and listened as you ordered both your drinks.
Even from here, he could smell your perfume. It was new, he noticed. With notes of pomegranate, musk, and magnolia. It was enticing. It stirred something in Matt, something he had to seriously stop thinking about immediately.
And then suddenly, like a dark stormy cloud quickly rolling over fields, a stronger scent of cologne overtook your scent from Matt’s senses. It was a disgustingly overwhelming cologne with notes of amber, woody, and lavender. Nauseating. Overbearing. It completely covered your scent from his senses. And when he heard that oh-so-familiar pompous voice over the crowd, speaking to you, Matt froze in place.
Oh, no.
“What is a beautiful young lady like you doing at an event with a bunch of old head lawyers?” The pompous, masculine voice said. Matt hadn’t heard that annoying voice in years, not since he and Foggy left their job at Landman & Zack. God, Matt couldn’t stand his presence, his obnoxious attitude, and his greed. He was Matt’s age, son of a partner, son of thee Zack, an ungrateful, conniving person. It was Zachary Zack. Yes, that really was his name.
“A beautiful young lady like me is trying to order drinks,” Matt heard you say in return. He wanted to smile at your quickness but he couldn’t. He stood in place, listening from afar.
“I see you’ve got two drinks there,” Zach said. “Are you here…alone?”
“If you read the invitation carefully, it said two representatives from each law firm were invited. So no, I’m not alone.”
“I don’t assume you date your boss, do you?” Zach joked. Matt’s grip on his cane was so tight, he was sure he broke open his cuts again.
“No,” you answered curtly. “I don’t assume you date coworkers, do you?”
Zach let out a laugh, placed a hand on his chest. You took a good look at the young lawyer and raised a suspicious eyebrow. He had tan skin—he seemed like the type to spend summers in the Hamptons—and sandy blonde hair. He was wearing a three-piece suit and a giant gold watch on his left wrist. You hated that you found him attractive.
“Smart girl,” he smiled a bright white, dazzling smile. “Thank God you’re not a coworker.”
And to Matt’s dismay—no, his fear—you smiled in return. He didn’t have to see it to know you were smiling, he knew it by the way your heart picked up and you let out a laugh through your nose. It was telling, it was happening, and there was nothing he could do about it. Unless…
Matt started to make his way to the bar, tapping his cane in front of him, ignoring the shoulders he pushed through and elbows he dodged. When he finally reached where you stood, he could sense every muscle in Zach’s body tightened as he too recognized Matt Murdock after all these years.
“Murdock,” Zach announced like he was a game show host, “never thought I’d see you at one of these fancy events. Never seemed your style!” It was a poor attempt at friendly conversation, and Matt knew his true intentions. Still, Matt smiled in return and held out his hand.
“Is that—Zachary Zack?” Matt pretended to guess, to be shocked he was running into a former colleague. And of course, it worked.
“Sure is, buddy,” Zach said through gritted teeth. He shook Matt’s hand and gave it an aggressive squeeze. Matt pulled his hand back and gripped his cane.
“__,” Matt said your name, “This is Zachary Zack. From—“
“Landman & Zack. Come on buddy, I can introduce myself—wait, Murdock is your boss?” Zach said in disbelief. You smiled, amused at this interaction.
“Yeah, he is,” you said. “How do you guys know each other?”
“We uh, used to work together at Landman & Zack,” Matt explained. Zach nodded and caught your eyes—his eyes were so blue. He seemed goofy, in a strange way. You couldn’t tell if he was a douchebag or just a really loud man. Regardless, his energy did something to you—intrigued you.
“Until Murdock and his buddy—what, Foggy?—decided to start from the ground up and build their own firm. Gotta say it was pretty respectable to leave a big firm like that. To take a risk,” Zach seemed to calm his demeanor when Matt came over, something Matt picked up on immediately. He was trying to impress upon you. Matt didn’t like that. And his fake compliment was really him saying he and Foggy were idiots for deciding to start their own firm, but the joke is on him.
“Oh, you know, we learned a lot from you guys. What to do and what not to do,” Matt mustered a smile.
“Hmm. So, your name is __?” Zach returned his attention to you. You grabbed Matt’s hand and gave him his glass of Macallan.
“It is,” you said, meeting his eyes. “Nice to meet you, Zach.”
“Tell me, are you in law school? Studying?”
“I just graduated with my pre-law degree from New York University.”
“Impressive,” Zach smiled. You liked this calmer demeanor from him, it was more friendly and seemed genuine. “Are you thinking of law school?”
“Of course,” you nodded. “I’m studying for the LSAT now.”
“Ah, the LSAT,” Zach said wistfully. Matt clenched his jaw. “I remember those days. Hey, if you ever need help with it, I know some people on the Board who write the questions. I’d love to have you come to the office one day and I can show you some tips. I, uh, kind of scored a 173 on the test.”
Matt rolled his eyes behind his dark red glasses. I scored a 175.
“Really?” Your interest was piqued, by not only his offer of help but also an invitation to another big law firm in the city. “I’d love that.”
“Here’s my card,” Zach reached into his pocket and handed you his business card. It was thicker than Geri’s and had silver font. “Actually,” he interrupted and pulled out a pen, “here’s my personal number.”
You raised an eyebrow and squinted your eyes. Zach raised his arms in defense, “I just want to help. Seriously.”
“Alright, Mr. Zack. Thank you,” you smiled. Zach smiled in return. “It was lovely meeting you, Ms. __. I hope you do call me.” His attention fell on Matt again, and his expression turned hard.
“Well, it was nice seein’ you Matt—you’re not offended when I say that, right? Ha, just kidding buddy,” Zach playfully punched Matt’s shoulder, but Matt stood as still as a statue. He conjured a smile as best he could and loosened his grip on his cane once he knew Zach was far enough away.
Matt exhaled a breath he didn’t know he was holding. You flipped Zach’s card in your fingers and read, and re-read his name. He was a partner at Landman & Zack. And he invited you to reach out to him.
⠋⠁⠊⠞⠓
In the car ride home, Matt was awfully quiet. Maybe the alcohol had finally settled in him, maybe he was tired. You kept fiddling with Zach’s card in your hand, reading his numbers written out just for you. You looked over at Matt whose gaze was out the window.
“Did you have fun?” You asked him softly, feeling the liquor settle in you.
“Yeah,” Matt said—he pressed his lips together in an attempt to smile. You couldn’t help but shake the feeling that something was wrong.
“Did you?” He asked after a bit.
“I did,” you looked at Zach’s card in your fingers. Your savior came to mind out of nowhere. His smile under his black mask, his voice low in your ear, his fingers caressing your body…most of all, his words that promised so much, his words that gave you so much faith. The more you looked at Zach’s name, the less faith you had in your love for your savior. It was like watching a home you used to live in slowly fade into the distance. You couldn’t help but keep watching as it got smaller and smaller until it was completely out of your sight.
It was time to move on.

Relationships Can Kill
Tumblr media
Well I have no motivation or ideas to write part three and i also started school last Wednesday so I've been busy, this is gonna be a short one since i had the urge to write something. I finally got to watching the episode where will leaves and that episode was so chaotic and i cried a little. This is also based off before Jay resigns and leaves. While doing this i was researching best universities to study medicine. Even though I'm only a sophomore in high school. (This is old i started school like a month ago)
Summary: You and your older brother Nate get into a heated argument over rumors, but did he know that his last words to you would be so brutal?
Word Count: 1.3k
Warnings: Angst, Arguing, Fighting Drinking/Hungover, and death (My bad for this)
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You walked off the bus excited because Jay let you doordash tonight and it was friday AND Jay and Will were coming home from their brother bonding trip. You punched the numbers into the keypad and closed the door behind you. You were very thankful that Jay and Hailey had gotten a house and let both you and your brother move in with them.
“Hey Nate, wanna go play hockey with me on the lake” Nate could basically do everything but the thing he did the most was hockey, he promised to teach you so both you and him could compete against each other during the winter.
“No, I'm busy,” Nate said quickly. “Okay, do you want anything from Panda Jay let me doordash some tonight” You said “No i wouldn't wanna mess up your date with my girlfriend” Nate Spat.
“Girlfriend? I dont even like your girlfriend and i'm pretty sure she hates me so why on earth would i-” Nate cut you off and started yelling.
“I WOULD BELIEVE HER ANY DAY OVER YOU, now get outta my way, i hate you so much” Nate slammed the front door and you just stood there shocked. Instead of crying or running after him you pulled your phone from your pocket and ordered your food.
After eating dinner and getting your homework done you went ahead and texted the family group chat but only one with Will,Jay, and Hailey.
The Cops and Doctors
Y/n- When will you guys be home?
Hails <3- Soon, i have to finish this case. Do i need to bring home food
Y/n - No, Jay gave me money for Doordash
Hails <3 - Alright, I'll see you later.
Y/n - Bye Hailey
Hails <3 Bye Hailey.
You closed your messages app and decided to watch some tik tok since you would probably be bored until everyone got home.
Crash, you whipped your head to see 4 men dressed in all black standing in your room…Now you wished Nate was here.
***
Hailey walked in and the house was sortta quiet, the tv and the lights were still on but otherwise that's it. “Y/N? NATE?” Hailey shouted, nothing. Maybe they're sleeping or they're in the shower, she thought.
When Hailey peaked through Nate's door he wasn't there, Hailey knocked on your door “Y/n are you decent” Again nothing. “Y/n?.... Y/n i'm coming in” Hailey said as she was turning the doorknob.
When Hailey opened the door any happiness she had went outside the window. “Shit shit shit, NATE! NATE”
No response. Hailey didn't have time to worry about him; you were dying on the floor and you were her biggest priority.
“Y/n Halstead you do not get to do this to me, your brothers and everyone, you can't, cmon, cmon” Hailey screamed as she continued CPR.
“Hails, Y/n, Nate I’m home” Jay screamed. He waited for you to come screaming and running to him like you always did but this time you didn't, this time all jay could here was screaming and sobbing.
Jay pulled out his gun and slowly walked up the stairs of the house and walked to your room where the screaming came from. What he saw next made him freeze for about ten seconds before dropping the gun to the ground and immediately sliding over to and hailey.
“What happened?” Jay sobbed, “I-I don't know I came home and just found her like this.” Hailey replied as she CPR. Jay looked around your room and it was completely ransacked. Your dresser drawers were open and clothes either hanging from them or out of them, papers on the floor, and all your electronics were gone. Your tv, Computer, Phone, and they even somehow found your burner phone you could use to call someone in case of an emergency where you didnt have your phone because you were grounded.
“Hailey let me take over, you're getting tired.” Nothing, hailey didn't even look up from you. Jay pushed her off of you, not really a push but kinda scooted her away and continued CPR. Hailey ran to get her phone and punched in the numbers to call 9-1-1.
***
“Any sign of him?” Will asked. Nobody knew where Nate was, and his friends weren't telling anybody anything. “No, they have Adam outside the house just in case he turns up at the house” Even though the family used Life360, Nate turned his phone off. Typical of him.
Just then Connor walked into the waiting room. Will knew that face he had on very well, he knew it all too well because he would be the one to deliver the news sometimes.
“How is she?” Jay asked whistl standing up from the chair. Connor shook his head. “She didn't make it, I'm so sorry” “Bu-but you found a pulse you-you said that she was gonna make it” Jay said whilst holding back his tears.
“One of her rooms puntcered the carotid artery. I'll explain it to you when you're ready or whenever both of you are ready. Will can explain but otherwise wise i'm so sorry i couldn't have done more.” You could hear by voice that he wanted to cry but he had to hold it together for Will and Jay.
“Can we see her?.” Jays voice quiet. Connor led the brothers to the room you were in. “Oh y/n, we're so sorry” Will choked as he stroked your bruised Knuckles. Jay stood there, not moving, not reacting, not talking. His sister, his little sister, his only sister was gone, and you were never coming back.
***
6am, 6 fucking am is when your brother came back, hungover af. He looked like he drank like there was no tomorrow.
Jay nor Will was in the house. Both of them couldn't stay in that house with what happened, plus Will didn't trust Jay to be by himself so they were both at Will's apartment.
“Where have you been?” Hailey said. The whole team was doing an investigation along with another team as well. “I was out on a run” His words slurred. “Drinking? You think I don't know the signs of someone being hungover. Nate, your sister is in the hospital.” Hailey was holding back on saying you were gone. “What why?” Nate froze “Because whilst you were gone someone broke in and stabbed her to death.” Hailey cried.
“What? It was only supposed to be a joke” He mumbled. “What?” Hailey stopped fidgeting with her fingers. “It was supposed to be a joke, pay back, they were only supposed to scare her and pretend to take her stuff, they weren't supposed to kill her.” Nate said.
“Hey Adam and Kev, downstairs now, we've got him” Hailey said into her radio. “Nathanyal Halstead you're being arrested for the murder of y/n Halstead, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do can be used against you in the court of law” Adam said as he arrested the teen. “She was a good sister and she was your only sister, now you're gonna suffer the consequences of a Practical joke” She whispered into his ear.
Hailey wanted to be the one who broke the news to will and jay. They did do an autopsy and it did show that you put up a fight. did Nathanyal say who was also involved in your murder for his sentence to go down. 50 years in prison without chance of parole. During your funeral you were named a Hero and an amazing person to all. Even though you didn't get to be a future doctor they put up a Memorial outside med and that was their way of honoring your Dream.
The fact is i'm also learning about the human body sometimes while I'm writing chapters because i like my information to be somewhat correct.

Best Years but Not in the Same Way (30)
Calum Hood x Reader
Previous Part
I’m sorry it took me 3 years to continue this story. i hope someone still wants to read this story. enjoy!
Masterlist
-
After all these Long Distances drama, finally he came home to LA. But you didn’t immediately meet him because you were busy at studio, helping Justin again with his song called Forever. You know Calum didn’t really like it but you did it anyway, because it was your work and you like to help friend.
It’s 10 p.m. and you texted Calum.
Tumblr media
You said goodbye to the people on the studio, and also Justin. You just waved at him and left the building. Second time you met him still awkward, at least for you.
-
You checked your schedule at your laptop and today was the day you had a video meeting with Andrew Watt. He invited you to help him and his friends to write a song. He didn’t mention who his friends was but you guessed one of them is Ali Tamposi.
You waited for him to call you and you also eat your breakfast. Not long enough he finally called you. You answered his calls and his face was on your screen alongside with Ali, your guessed was right, Ryan Tedder and also you saw someone very familiar. It was Luke.
“Aye Palvin.” Andrew greeted you. You smiled and waved to the camera. “I asked her to help us writing because… i didn’t know anyone else.” He laughed and we also laughed.
You furrowed your eyebrows. “Luke hi!? Why are you here?” You asked him. “Is Luke going solo?” Then you asked the rest of them hoping they would answer.
“No I’m not. It’s 5sos’ project.” Luke gave you a smile and you returned it.
“Cool!” you said. “So, thank you so much for letting me be the part of this project.”
They’re all happy seeing you joining this meeting.
“So i have wrote the lyric and i want to share with you all.” Ryan began to play chords on his guitar and sang the lyric. After he finished, he continued to explain. “The concept is where you hurt someone and you’re kind of making them a promise that although i’ve hurt you and there’s like this dark cloud over us right now, I’m gonna give you the best years of my life.”
You nodded.
“Wow i think it’s a beautiful romantic promise and statement to make.” Luke nodded also.
After hours and hours passed by, we finished the verses, the pre chorus. And then Andrew started played the guitar to match the lyrics. “This is so beautiful. Guys thank you so much for helping. I’ll take it from here.” Meeting is over and it was 6 P.M. right now. You called Calum right away.
“Hello?” Said Calum from the other side. He sounded different.
“Hello Cal,” you greeted him happily even though he didn’t respond the same. “Where are you? I just finished meeting with Andrew.”
“Oh. I’m outside. I’m meeting my friends.” He answered as short as he could.
You sighed slowly. His attitude became like this since he knew you’ve been working with Justin for his upcoming album. Almost a month since early august. On one side you glad you fixed the friendship you had with Justin. Because deep down you just want to live in peace and had no more hate feeling to him. And also you felt a strong connection with Justin when you wrote songs together. Not in a romantic way. But the other side, it tore Calum apart. You knew the consequences of having Justin again in your life and you still took it anyway. And now look what you have done. Slowly you and Calum distance to each other.
“Oh, okay. How’s the Teeth promo doing?” You asked him again try to reduce your ego.
“Great, it was great.”
You tried to hold your tears. “Alright, have fun Cali.” You decided to end the conversation because you couldn’t handle his bitterness.
“Bye.”
You ended up crying on your bed without him knowing your hearts hurt so bad.
-
Today is September 1st and you got an email from Justin. It was an invitation to his wedding day with Hailey on September 30. You sighed as you saw this digital invitation shown so beautifully on your laptop screen. Suddenly you mind did a flashback to the sick old memory. But it dispersed when you got a video call from Michael.
“Hey hey miss B,” Michael greeted. “What you doing girl.”
You grinned confusely. “Hey dude, just sit on my couch doing nothing. What’s up Mike?” When you asked him, out from nowhere, Calum joined the video call.
“Hey Cal.” Mike waved his hand to Calum.
Calum frowned. “What’s with this meeting, dude?” He sounded almost pissed with Michael because he had been avoided any video call or meeting with you directly.
“Stop it both of you.” Michael snapped. “I knew you two had been avoiding each other for over a month. I love you two and i don’t want anything bad happened to you guys. Cal you better make it up or i will be so mad at you. Alright, I’m out. Bye.” He left the call and it leave you only with Calum.
You gulped. You could see his faced were so pissed. You were so ready if he said he wanted to break up.
“Cal…,” you paused. “What happened to us? We haven’t seen each other for a month.”
“I’m busy with the promo. We’ve been doing this for years, Saara. I’m busy with my band and you’re busy at the studio, that’s it.” He avoided any eye contact with you.
You wiped your tears. “Don’t you Saara me, Cal.” Your heart shattered when he called you by name. “I knew we’ve been doing this for years, but we communicated through calls, video calls, we talked.” “If you have something to talk to me please tell me now.”
His face turned into sad. “Fine. I still can’t accept the fact you still involved with Justin. After all this years he hurted you, i waited for you to heal your feelings from him, just for you to go back with him?”
“I’m not going to back to him. I’m with you now, Cal. Please. It was just an album work i swear to God. I’m returning favors to Poo Bear. I owe him so much until i am today, that’s why i accepted his request to be part of Justin’s album. That’s it.” You explained to him hardly because you were crying.
“I’m outside.”
You left the laptop and opened the door immediately. You saw him stood there with his phone on his left hand and a bucket of roses on his right hand. You hugged him immediately and cried on his chest. “Please don’t leave me.” You said it while sobbing.
“If i leave you i wouldn’t give you this flowers.” You pulled the hug and you took the flowers. “I love you so much that i don’t want to lose you again. and I’m sorry this situation went too far.”
You nodded and kisses him.

I understand the transmasc Jake headcanon and I think it's very neat but have you ever considered...
Transfem Jake?
Not enough people talk about the idea of transfem Jake, honestly.
(Though, with most characters in the TMF fandom, when people headcanon them as trans they usually headcanon them as transitioning to the canon gender they are in the show originally—Ex. Headcanoning Zander to be FtM/Headcanoning Daisy to be MtF)
It has so much potential !!! Here, I'll give a few ideas:
Ex. 1. Jake trying to figure out whether or not she (I'm just gonna use she/her for talking about transfem jake) has a crush on Daisy, or if she wants to be Daisy and is simply getting extreme gender envy from her. (Spoiler alert: It's probably both.)
Ex. 2. Jake comes out to her friend group and they're all supportive and whatnot and all that good stuff. Henry thinks he finally has a chance with Lia. nope. Lia is still in love with Jake either way. (Pansexual Lia... hell yeah.)
Ex. 3. Lia and Zoey help Jake with her transition. Helping her figure out how to put on makeup, helping her pick out reasonable stylish outfits, taking her out on girl's nights with them, defending her with their lives. I know Zoey despises Jake... buuuuut I'm gonna ignore that for the sake of fluff. Maybe they just develop a frenemy kind of bond. (Ignore canon.)
Ex. 4. Jake comes out to the music club and Hailey is extremely proud of the fact that they gained one more female club member. (Milly is jumping up and down and celebrating this.)
Ex. 5. Jake comes out to her family. Milo still doubts her ability to get girls, whether identifying as a boy or girl. Jake is extremely offended.
Ex. 6. In freshman year of highschool, Daisy is the first person Jake confides in about her gender struggles.
Ex. 7. Jake loses a bet with her friends and puts on a dress. Refusing to admit it, she actually feels extremely confident in it. She secretly buys the dress, keeping it in her closet, hoping for the day she could wear it in public.
Ex. 8. Oh wow, Angst. - The angst potential is STRONG. I know how much this fandom loves angst.
Jake is in an all guy friend group—well, atleast her closest friends are guys. She might feel extremely out of place, like she didn't belong, even with her group of friends. The emotions from her past of being friendless and out of place strike back to her as she realizes she feels nothing like all her other friends, and even her own body makes her feel out of place now. She ends up starting to slowly drift way from Drew, Henry, and Liam, refusing to admit what's wrong.
Ex. 9. (Still angst) - Middle school Jake would often stay up late at night, occasionally accidentally pulling all nighters, looking at herself in the mirror, trying to figure out what was so wrong with her that she felt this way.
Ex. 10.
Jake: *is coming out as transfem and stuff and stuff yknow*
Zander: *rests hand on Jake's shoulder* Don't worry, this doesn't change how I feel about you in the slighest.
Jake: Aw, thanks-
Zander: I still think you are a cocky asshole.
Jake:
These are just some things I made up on the spot. Some might not be that interesting, i know. I have many great transfem jake ideas but they all just fucking left me when i decided to write this. Curse you stupid brain. If my good ideas come back I'll be sure to add more on to it in a reblog.
In all honesty, the most accurate depiction of transfem Jake would probably just be...
Jake thinking—"Heh, I'm such a ladies man," to "Oh shit.. maybe I'M a lady!"

Emo RD Rambles 3: Patient Playlist
Welcome back to Emo Cannot Write For Shit So You All Get His Rambles. With an additional thing at the end winkwink. This is really really long so let's get cracking.
Today's concept: Ian and Ada approach the idea of creating a Patient Radio - a playlist made of the long term patient's favourites songs to 'maximise comfort'.
As a beta for the Radio, they leave a sheet of paper in the connecting hallway for patients to list suggestions of their preferred music, around three or four songs maximum. Some already have ideas in mind, while others struggle.
This is just a silly idea I had when wondering what type of music the main RD cast listens to; excluding the songs they're actually involved in. This also created some funny writing prompts that I may use for a small comedic anthology. For example:
Hailey is the first person to write anything down: and she's pretty basic (sorry). Her style is very mainstream, involving those pop songs you'd hear on the radio. From there, a few folks follow, with varying genres and tastes. The next day, however, more folks have added some ideas, including Logan. You can tell Logan has visited - because there is now a messy heart drawn next to Hailey's suggestions.
Also, Logan suggests similar stuff to Hailey, with the addition of maybe an anime opening or two.
Cole... suggests his own music. For the sake of both his ego, and the declining state of the patients, he's given a stern 'no'. Of course, it's Cole, so he angrily scribbles out his suggestions and leaves the paper be. He's surprised when 'Unreachable' comes on via the Patient Radio - and, sure enough, someone's written it down past his scribbling. More specifically, Samurai. He even signed it! (By that, I mean the writing is just "Unreachable- Cole Brew (SAMURAI)". All of Samurai's suggestions are signed this way.)
Insomniac writes down only one suggestion: a traditional Japanese folk song (or 'hōgaku'). This would be fine - if he wrote the song's title in Romaji. Instead, the song is written in pure, specific kanji characters.
Ada returns to Ian come the night with a new version of the paper: "Hey, so, uh- I got the paper back today and there's some new stuff from the swordsmen. Any idea what this is?" Ian turns, "Hah?" before seeing the kanji. There's a slight pause before he just casually goes, "Oh! This is (insert Japanese title here)! That's easy, I'll type it up." Ada learns that Ian learnt how to read kanji entirely just for the songs he listens to that are in Japanese.
Oh yeah: the moment this song plays on the radio, the Insomniac falls asleep. Hell, he sleeps like a baby. Unfortunately, they can't play it on loop, but now they know he appreciates a lil' lullaby.
Speaking of Ian and Ada, they decide to add some of their own songs to the mix (Ian mostly - he felt it was a little unfair that the patients get to listen to banger tunes). Ian adds quite a variety, but we cannot ignore the fact he adds maybe one or two vocaloid songs.
Ada, unfortunately, is a little embarrassed of her status as a former theatre kid, still musical lover. She, instead, uses a few common songs from the radio to add to the list. Ian convinces her, after a little while, to add a really popular song from her favourite musical. I do not know what musical this is.
There's a surprising amount of patients that add jazz to the radio, or at least music from the 1950 to 1980's era. For one, the Stevensons' accidentally add the same song to the list twice, given Mr. Stevenson can't read his wife's handwriting that well anymore (I'll elaborate on why later). This also just so happens to be a song that played in their wedding. They have a ball dancing to it.
Additionally, the Miner also includes a bit of Rock 'n' Roll or otherwise jazz into his suggestions. They're very old for the 30-something nut, but it adds up. He also, thanks to Cole, includes a little chiptune.
Hugh somehow adds the tutorial theme. You know, the tutorial song from Rhythm Doctor. Nobody recognises the title, or the artist, but everyone in the ward has a mutual moment of "I swear I've heard this before". Hugh doesn't comment.
There's a slight cultural shift once Insomniac includes his traditional tune. It's not the only Non-English hit, and Ian/Logan do add a couple of Japanese songs to the pile.
In Nicole's case, she ends up not sure what to suggest, but still wanting to take part. So, she ends up adding a Chinese pop song, quote: "I don't know any Chinese myself, but my mom would put this on a lot, and I didn't have anything else that'd be good for a hospital radio."
Lucky adds two jazz, and a rock song to the radio. The biggest issue is that he originally aimed to add a Spanish song from his childhood, but got caught in his own head, scribbling it out halfway. The good thing? Miner is able to read bits and pieces, writing what he could make out - angering Lucky into writing the full title. He jumps when it plays on the radio days later.
I believe that's everything I had listed. Thanks to RDL for allowing me to compile all of my thoughts before adding them here, as these are now far more conjoined.
Oh, right! The bonus thing! Considering the song suggestions were taken on a piece of lined paper, I thought it would be fun to visualise what I believe the main casts' handwriting would look like:

If you have any thoughts/additions you want to make, you have full reign to send me asks/reblog this with whatever you like. Have a good one, lads - EMO

— he looks forward to autumn for the whole year bc he knows how happy the season makes you !!
— the first week of autumn, he books off work (I know that may not canonically be correct, but for the sake of this just go with it. also he doesn't go on patrol, so he can have more time with you, shush it's fiction, it's okay)
— so during the first week, you both do a bunch of shopping to get ready for the season ahead!! stopping past all the 'bargain' shops to fill your baskets: wreaths, pumpkins, warm-tone throws, anything and everything you want. matt obvs can't see, so he's easy, adding whatever you want to the basket to make your shared home to your liking
— (if you could, you'd start in july!! but matt persuades you to at least wait until the end of august)
— you kinda splurge a lot, getting some, albeit unnecessary items. things no one ever needs!! maybe some pumpkin cookie cutters, orange garlands, or just things that will never be used. stuff that lies around in a cabinet all year round until found again in easter
— after you shop, you get a little pick-me-up from a coffee store. revitalise yourselves a bit before the next stop. while you enjoy your drinks, you chat, talk about where everything will go when you get home, talking excitedly !! almost gushing as you peek at your items through the bag handles
— matt loves to hear you talk:(( he loves hearing your heart beat just that bit faster when you talk about things you enjoy, and it makes his feel warm to be able to listen to you- that he's special enough to enjoy your interests !!
— he loves the way your breathing quickens and how you need to take more breaths and pauses as you're talking so much and so fast. HE JUST LOVES IT !!
— when you get home, you're both very tired, so you save the decorating until tomorrow. but you throw the blankets and pillow covers in the wash so that they're ready for the next day
— you each take a shower and change into comfy pjs. you both sit on the couch as you eat your soup (you were too tired to make some, so you bought a premade one and heated it up while matt was washing- so it would be ready at the same time as him) you both dip some fresh buttered bread (you picked it up from a bakery on the way back home)
— to wind down for the night, you and matt snuggle on the sofa as you watch a comforting autumn/ halloween movie. he listens to it and imagines or falls asleep to your steady heartbeat and breathing <3
— next day, you decorate. but he has to take away your debit/credit/bank card, to stop you from ordering MORE stuff online. it's no use, bc you know all the details by heart
— a few days later, more stuff arrives and matt answers the door, turning back at you with an amused smile. you smile back, shrugging. "there was a sale."

I’ll show you mine - Part 1
Tumblr media
Summary - He didn’t fit. His clothes were too nice, his hair too neat, he was raising all the red flags for Hailey. She didn’t think he was part of the crew she was trying to take down, but why else would he be in such an establishment on a random Tuesday night? But then he muttered the words into her ear that she had least expected - ‘I’m police’.
Chapters - 1/3
Notes - I’ve wanted to write an undercover Upstead first meet fic for ages so here it is! It spiralled into more than a oneshot so it’s split into three parts, happy reading! ❤️ AO3 Link
Hailey lifted her glass to her mouth but the liquid only brushed against the seam of her lips before she placed it down again. No one was watching her close enough to see that the whiskey in her glass hadn’t decreased in the past hour. She was on the clock and whiskey was not conducive to remaining alert.
Her eyes scanned across the room again making mental notes as she did so. In the far corner was a black haired man in his 40’s nursing a beer whilst playing with a wedding band. The table opposite the jukebox was home to a couple whose drinks had remained untouched for the past twenty minutes, their mouths preoccupied with devouring each other. Other patrons were scattered around the room, the standard haunts for a drinking establishment on a Tuesday night.
‘Another for you Kelly?’ The barkeep said, knowing the answer would be no like it had been every other time he had asked.
‘Not for me Sam, but thanks,’ she said with a wink. He must have been only just over 21 himself, probably in his first job. Little did he know that the man who ran the payroll, was running cocaine cut with battery acid throughout the South Side and Hailey was trying to gather enough evidence to bring him down. There were already too many bodies they could tie to this guy.
It had been slow going. She had been coming to this bar every night for the past week, getting on first name basis with Sam until she learnt that he knew nothing. His poor attempts at flirting was all she had gotten out of him. They knew from previous recon that the owner of the bar, River Harrison, did show up on occasion and the team's plan was to either get something on the wire to incriminate him or Hailey was going to turn on the charm and they were going to go black ops and load him into the back of a van with some jumped up charges when she lured him outside.
But since she had started frequenting the bar, they hadn’t seen sight nor sound of him. She was starting to wonder if they, or more specifically she, had been made.
Just as she was thinking of wrapping it up for the night, the door behind her opened. Glancing at a strategically placed mirror on the bar, she saw who had entered. He was tall, closely cut hair - ex-army if Hailey had to guess. She watched as his green eyes scanned the bar before clearly settling on her. She kept her eyes straight forward - Kelly wasn’t interested in chatting anyone up or being chatted up.
‘This seat taken?’ The man asked, his voice silky smooth with a born and bred Chicago accent.
Hailey glanced round and shrugged, he seemed a little out of place for an establishment like this, although his outfit was casual enough, the blue jeans and black t-shirt with a khaki green button down. He had an air of confidence about him that those who drink alone on a week night don’t normally possess.
‘I shall take that as a no then,’ he smirked and settled down on the stool next to hers.
‘Free country,’ she said nonchalantly, turning her attention back to the television screen above the bar.
‘I could buy you a drink,’ he suggested.
‘You could but considering I haven’t finished this one, it’s likely to go to waste,’ she said cooly, her eyes flicking down to the mirror and immediately back up to the television when she was met with his emerald eyes shining directly back at hers in its reflection.
‘Well if you decide to finish it, you let me know,’ he said with a grin. He proceeded to order a beer and when he picked it up to drink, Hailey noticed another thing. His nails were perfectly clean and trimmed, also unusual. This bar didn’t usually house the most neatly manicured of men. She hoped her button cam was picking up enough of an image that she could run it at the district, he was raising all the red flags with her.
Having someone sit directly next to you when you were trying to run surveillance wasn’t the easiest, especially when he seemed intent on trying to engage her in conversation even as Hailey continued to shrug off his advances.
‘So come here often?’ He said on the third attempt, all his previous attempts had fallen flat with her being able to provide a yes or a no answer that allowed the conversation to stall.
Hailey scoffed, ‘that’s the line you’re going with?’
‘Well it got more of an answer out of you than any of my other ones did,’ he smirked again. The kind of smirk that you either wanted to slap off of a guy's face, or grab it with both hands and smash your lips into theirs. Hailey wasn’t sure which one of those she wanted to do although neither were professional when she was on the clock. Unfortunately.
‘Touché’ Hailey said, raising her glass to his and tipping the amber liquid against her lips again. His eyes were fixed on her as she did so and she saw something flash across his eyes as she lowered her glass again. She definitely needed to get back to the district and run this guy through the system.
‘I’m Ryan, not that you asked,’ he smirked again, lifting his own drink to his mouth. Mirroring her however, he didn’t appear to drink a single drop. The liquid line remained where it had been previously when he rested it against the bar top.
‘Kelly,’ she said simply. Ryan. She didn’t think there was a Ryan on River’s payroll, they knew all of his major lieutenants but maybe they had missed someone. This guy was giving off all the indications that he was here for a reason and she didn’t think that reason was the beer he clearly wasn’t drinking.
‘Kelly,’ he repeated as if he was testing her name on his tongue. ‘Pleasure.’
She hummed in response.
‘So you didn’t answer my question Kelly,’ Ryan persisted. She had to give him points for trying anyway.
‘And what question would that be,’ she said, finally relenting and turning to face him, resting her chin on her fist as her elbow lent atop the counter. She’d probably regret it later when her white sweater was stained with years of spilt drinks.
‘Do you come here often?’
‘On occasion,’ she said.
‘And is tonight any specific occasion?’ He asked, his smirk still firmly fixed to his face as he tilted his head slightly to the side.
‘Just a Tuesday that needed some whiskey,’ Hailey shrugged. She couldn’t work out what information he was trying to get out of her. If he was one of River’s men and they had the bar under surveillance then he would already know she had been in every night. But when he had walked in, he had not seemed prepared to see her at the bar or else he wouldn’t have scanned the room first.
‘And a chat from a handsome man,’ he winked at her and although a strange man winking at her in a bar would normally make her skin crawl, this made her cheeks redden.
‘If you find one, send him my way would you,’ she sassed back, raising an eyebrow and pulling her own lips into a smirk.
‘You wound me Kelly,’ Ryan said, feigning pain and clutching at his heart with his hand that remained free from the bottle of beer he still hadn’t taken a single sip from.
‘Let me know if you need me to call you an ambulance,’ she had to stop herself from chuckling at her own words. Serves the guy right for trying to flirt with her when she was busy.
——————————————————————————
When Hailey exited the bathroom with the intent of heading back to her seat, she was pulled to the side into the shadows of the bathroom corridor. A firm body was pressed against hers into the wall and she tensed herself to fight back. The body was definitely larger than hers, broader, but she’d taken down bigger men, she doubted this one would be a problem.
‘Don’t shout, I’m police.’ It was the dulcet tones of Ryan and those were the last words she expected him to whisper into her ear.
‘I’ll show you mine if you show me yours,’ she responded and she felt him take her hand and slide it under his shirt. To anyone walking past it would look like two intoxicated strangers fumbling with each other in the hallway. In reality, Hailey felt her fingers graze against his warm skin and then come into contact with a wire.
Shit.
He was police.
Well at least her instincts that he didn’t fit in at the bar had been correct.
She took his own hand and slid it under her shirt and up to the wire that was taped between her breasts.
‘So Kelly, are we getting out of here?’ He said, his mouth only an inch away from her ear.
‘I think that’s probably the most sensible thing you’ve said all evening,’ she whispered back, retracting his hand from her chest but then firmly linking his fingers with his. They didn’t know if there was a camera at this position in the bar but he had instigated their rendezvous and they needed to continue the act until they were certain they weren’t being watched.
She tugged him back into the bar and waved flirtily to Sam.
‘See you tomorrow Sam,’ she winked at him.
‘Bye Kelly,’ he said, his tone slightly disappointed to see her walking out of the bar that was someone that wasn’t him.
She giggled, she hated playing the giggly drunk but it seemed appropriate now, and she felt Ryan pull her into his side.
‘Yes bye Sam,’ he said over his shoulder and Hailey could only imagine the look on the young bartender's face.
When they had left the bar, it was her turn to push him against the wall. Under the guise of attaching her lips to his neck, which did look very tempting, she whispered against his lightly freckled skin.
‘Is your team near?’
She felt him nod and his hand buried itself in her hair, pulling her head up and bringing her ear nearer to his own lips.
‘Parked a block away, yours?’
She shook her head and pulled herself away from him, ‘your place or mine?’ She asked with a wink.
‘Mine,’ Ryan said, tugging on their still linked hands and leading her towards a blacked out panel van. It hadn’t been parked outside the bar when she had arrived or she would have noticed it, she had noted every car parked within a 100 foot radius of the bar.
‘After you,’ he said with a smirk and pulled open the door so she could climb in.
She was met with the perplexed looks of two officers, a young woman who she guessed was about her own age and an elderly cop who Hailey imagined was edging closer to retirement as every minute passed.
She heard the door shut behind her and turned to face Ryan.
‘Okay, so debrief now?’ Ryan asked.
‘Probably for the best,’ she agreed, ‘you can start.’
‘Okay,’ Ryan said, taking a seat on the small bench at the side of the van leaving Hailey to take up residence on the only remaining stool. With 4 grown adults in the back of the van it was quite a tight squeeze. ‘Detective Jay Halstead,’ he said with a smile. It wasn’t the same smirk he had given her at the bar, this was genuine, his white teeth shining and his emerald eyes glistening under the fluorescent lights. ‘This is Officer Burgess and Detective Olinsky,’ he gestured at his van mates in turn. ‘The Intelligence Unit got intel that the owner of the bar isn’t just in the liquor business so we decided to come and stake it out. You didn’t fit, too clean, too put together for a bar like that so I thought you might have been a member of his crew. We knew he had a couple of key lieutenants but hadn’t been able to dig in any further to be able to rule you out. I took a shot,’ Jay chuckled. ‘Sorry for the corridor,’ he added and she brushed it off, choosing to ignore how her heart had quickened as his hand had skimmed under her shirt and across her skin.
‘You’re fine. Okay so I’m Detective Upton, Hailey, with the Narcotics Unit. We had a similar piece of intel and it’s worse than just pushing the stuff, it’s being cut with battery acid and we’ve already had confirmed fatalities linked to it. So I’ve been staking out the place for the past week. We know Harrison drops in on occasion though we don’t have any evidence that the bar is used as a front to move product, more as a legitimate business to run the money through.’ This seemed to be news to the other occupants of the van so the female officer, Burgess, scribbled the notes down. ‘Technically I’m off book tonight, nothing has happened in the past week and my officers were tired so I gave them the night off and came anyway. Before you lecture, I was purely on an observation mission.’ She looked over at Jay, ‘I also thought you didn’t fit but hadn’t planned to drag you into a darkened corner to find out,’ she chuckled. ‘I was just going to run you through the system tomorrow.’
‘Fair enough,’ Jay said calmly, his eyes still sparkling as he looked at her, ‘so the bartender, Sam?’ He asked.
‘Is just a bartender,’ Hailey shrugged. ‘I thought he was in on it at the start, but he’s just a kid trying to earn money for his mother’s medical bills.’ Sam had admitted as much to her on only her second night in the bar, she felt sorry for him but apart from tipping him well, there was nothing she could do currently.
‘So the plan?’ Olinksy asked, ‘because no offence to the pair of you but listening to you flirt on the wire was painful.’ Hailey felt the blush creep up her cheeks and watched Jay smack him across the shoulders.
‘Well we’ve already left for the night now so it would be weird for us to go back in on the off chance that this Harrison shows up,’ Jay said and Hailey agreed with a nod.
‘So we can regroup in the morning and join up?’ She suggested.
‘Your Sargeant will go for that?’ Jay said, he seemed shocked that she had suggested a collaborative effort for some reason.
‘If it gets the case solved quicker than yeah, why will yours not be?’ She questioned and heard Olinksy scoff from behind her.
‘I’ll handle him,’ Jay said firmly, his eyes flicking between hers and Olinksy. ‘We are based out of the 21st, see you at 8?’
‘See you then,’ she said and made a move to open the door back onto the street.
‘Do you want a lift?’ Jay asked quickly.
‘My car is parked on the next block,’ she said with a smile. ‘See you at the 21st.’ And with that she opened the door and headed back into the brisk Chicago night but somehow the cold didn’t bother her like it had earlier.

top 9 books
tagged by @rosieposiepuddingnpie - thank you and curse you, this is my least favorite/favorite thing to do!
The Starless Sea, Erin Morgenstern (a book about the love of books and story-telling, another great example of this is Cloud Cuckoo Land, by Anthony Doerr but this edges it out just a little in my all time faves. Also consider this a stand-in for Erin Morgenstern's other gem: The Night Circus.)
The Secret History, by Donna Tartt (I always waffle between the dark academia vibes of this or the snowy Amsterdam/dry Las Vegas heat of The Goldfinch - they're both absolute perfection and have gay undertones so they bounce back and forth depending on the day.)
Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides (you know how people use 'sweeping tale' to describe certain books? That's this one. It just whisks you away. I know everything there is to know about the Stephanides clan and I'm a better person for it.)
The Bedlam Stacks, by Natasha Pulley (Honestly, also consider this a stand-in for every Natasha Pulley book there is. Sometimes my favorite is The Half Life of Valery K, sometimes it's The Watchmaker of Filigree Street series, sometimes it's The Kingdoms; it's really whose yearning I'm vibing with the most that day: Valery and Shenkov? Thaniel and Mori? Merrick and Raphael? Joe and Kite? It varies.)
The Stand, by Stephen King (I also really want to put Holly in that spot, I just finished it and I haven't loved a Stephen King book like that since The Stand - the only reason I didn't is because Holly is, at least for now, the last book in a series that is a spin-off of a series and every other book in those series don't hit the level of Holly, at all.)
Anxious People, by Fredrik Backman (this can also act as a stand-in for A Man Called Ove as well since I love them both for the exact same reason - they believe in the best in people. They make you feel better about humanity in general.)
The House in the Cerulean Sea, by TJ Klune (I will also point out that I have yet to read a TJ Klune book I haven't loved and that is not an insignificant amount now. This one is an older queer love story with the added bonus of found family. It's magical and heart-full and kind)
Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir (Also a big lover of The Martian but this has something extra special for me - the alien was unique and I cared so much about every character that even glanced across the pages.)
Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers, by Jesse Q. Sutanto (I laughed, I loved, I goggled at Vera's incredible ability to bring people together - a more motley crew of people there is not and yet somehow Vera not only makes it work, she makes them family <3)
Special shoutout to Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus, I read this semi-recently (within the last year) so I don't know if my gaga-ness with it will fade or not but right now I'm like: this should absolutely be on this list, I just don't know if that's gonna hold or not. The writing is absolutely gorgeous and the plot is perfect, I just don't know if it's top ten nine perfect, y'know? Also to S.A. Cosby - Razorblade Tears is literally hanging off the end of this list by its fingernails (also read everything else by him because it's all good!).
Ongoing series - that either aren't finished or that I haven't finished so they're not cemented yet (aka Maddie cheats so she can have more spots): The Thursday Murder Club series, by Richard Osman (it's up to four books now and they are absolute perfection - it's a series that believes the best in people, even its villains, no one is allowed to be one note and you never know who it's going to pick up and keep forever), The Monk & Robot series, by Becky Chambers (it's just such a quiet, peaceful little sci-fi series that loves its characters and tea), Empire of the Vampire, by Jay Kristoff (absolutely no notes on the first book, I was stressed out and ravenous), The Infernal War Saga, by Hailey Turner (pitch perfect first two books, I'm obsessed with everyone and, like, borderline too into Honovi and Blaine??), Legends & Lattes, by Travis Baldree (this book is kind and it's found family and it's Cozy High Fantasy, like, who even knew how badly I needed that?! - a prequel is due out next month!), The Expanse series, by James S.A. Corey (okay, I know this is done but I am only through book six, though so far absolutely every one has been perfect), The Amina al-Sirafi Series, by S.A. Chakraborty (the first book is so good, which I am zero percent surprised by because I five-starred my way all the way through The Daevabad Trilogy as well!), and the Susan Ryeland series, by Anthony Horowitz (these mysteries are absolutely right up my alley - because who's investigating them? An editor of the first book's murdered author. I hope he can manage to keep these going because they are so damn good!)
tagged: @andavs, @maichan808, @callunavulgari, @midnightisquiet, @bleep0bleep, @petals42, @emeraldawn, @melowdeee, @alocalband, also anyone else who wants to do this - i love seeing people's literature tastes!!

Uggg I love Kloe💜💜 so I drew her again with my oc blue 😼
they have a few things in common, like their both botanist!!( Blue doesn’t have an actual degree to legally be seen as botanist,so ya) they don’t like fires, and they are just silly gals :3
i feel like they would have meet in a forest with blue just sleeping on the ground?? I mean blue isn’t (usually) violent, she’s pessimistic in an.. optimistic way?? (“Oh hey we-more like you-are going die :p”) she likes yapping a lot too, since Kloe likes to read maybe Kloe would read to Blue? (blue can’t read or write, knows only basic math 😭) Blue is an eco-anarchist so alot of yapping about that
also is there anything really important in Kloe’s past? That maybe still affects her now?
I can’t say how much I LOVE your art 😭🩷 It’s so adorable and I love your oc! I’m so thankful for you drawing my oc🥹 I do think Kloe would Read to Blue and maybe how to teach her to read and write. About Kloe’s past, yes there is a lot that affects her now.
Kloe’s family was originally from a volcanic island that erupted while Kloe’s mom (Cathy) was pregnant with Kloe and her twin Kia, the Koala’s that were on the island evacuated to another Island closer to mainland Australia. After Kloe and her brother was born, after say about 4 years there was a wild fire and unfortunately she lost her father. The island wasn’t burned fully so they still lived there. Also, when Kloe was about 16 she was in a surfing competition against another girl (Hailey.) However the weather got really bad after they were too far out in the water a storm came, Pushing Hailey off of her surfboard and knocking her out. Everyone on land saw and was panicking as the waters were too dangerous for anyone to be on. Kloe being the hero as she is, she searched for Hailey and dived into the water to try and save her, she managed to get Hailey. The waves kept them from returning to the surface, and if they did get there they would only get a little bit of air. They were knocked around CONSTANTLY into rocks and got severally injured. Kloe heroically got herself and Hailey to the beach where everyone was watching and rushed to aid them. Hailey lost her right leg and Kloe broke her arm and got some injuries. They both lived and Kloe was seen as a hero. It was a while till anyone went out on the water. Hailey is working on her ability to surf again and Kloe surfs in her free time. They are both really close friends and share lots of memories together.
Kloe does have a fear of fires and sometimes she can’t get sick from rough waters. But she dosnt let that stop her from being an Octonaut! 🤍🩵
