freelance with a high score of 177 was like. comically bad (i've already complained about wallclinging but one of the later ones had someone run to a totally different wall away from the ideal spot and then cling there and this way at us. tbh we might as well have done it. would've ended the shift a lot sooner and gotten it over with)

tried joining someone's room on the salmon run discord server's pool, another player joined after me after a while, we went in with just 3 of us and it found a random fourth. this random player uh. used all of their specials immediately on wave 1 and squidbagged and kept jumping in the water. we threw because obviously that wasn't going anywhere, but then everyone else quit even though it was the random player who ruined it and they wouldn't be returning

so after that i tried for like an hour and finally got into a group in a text chat on that salmon run server. very first shift together we got 218. i was able to suggest we do some of the things i'd seen from players who got over 300 (primarily not luring on waves 3 and 5), and that seemed to help a bit, but overall we still didn't clear that first one we did together (and people kept having to leave and we'd have to find new players) and 218 ended up being the record until the end (we kept having bad mothership waves somehow. i was on n-zap which is my preferred one but im thinking maybe i could've tried it on tenta brella. i hate it but i also hate hydra and got 233 with it last time)

(we did get someone who seemed good but then they got d/c'd towards the end of the shift. and nintendo banned them for 10min which was a third of the time left so we tried to find someone new. tbh we probably would've been better off waiting that ban out. oh well)

218 is definitely silver (which is better than not getting silver in freelance), probably not gold (stat.ink estimates that at 233, and they're usually a bit low. that being said this one kind of sucked so i'd be surprised if it ended up being that high)

it was fun to play with a group though, even if i end up further away from gold than last time. eggstra work is conceptually a very fun way to play salmon run that i hadn't properly gotten to enjoy since it wasn't designed with freelance in mind (like you literally couldn't freelance the first one). but it was really nice to be like "hey here's what we could do differently next time" instead of just hoping that the other people who you can't communicate with will make the right observations and adjustments on their own

once upon a time i connected to someone on cherubplay and d/c'd right after they posted the starter. not just because our writing wasn't compatible but because we hadn't discussed names at all beyond it was just dave and john and dave's bro had just died. but they for some reason full-named all three of them during their entire starter. like straight up "David Elizabeth Strider"'d me. i hate the headcanon that his full name is David let alone their bizarre compulsion to call them david and johnathan. they came up with a name for bro for my character that i was playing. they did not ask.

this is so stupid because i literally got my adept achievement first try on bubba but ace d/c'd at the last second and it didn't count it so now i'm on a 5 game losing streak against increasingly high mmr toxic players while im bringing a trash killer with level 1 perks. it's like if you don't oneshoot the adept achievements they're impossible

the way that d/cs don't count towards adept killer achievements... sad!

same anon as before about the communication issues, i really do think that's the biggest problem. irl life getting in the way is often a problem but the communication errors really tie into it when sometimes people have irl life get in the way and then never send a "sorry i still want to rp but i've been swamped with work/personal matters" message. i just have also often been d/c'd on during the planning stages of a rp before a starter is ever sent because they didn't like an idea i talked about but didn't want to say they didn't like it, so instead of asking me "can we do something else?" it's all 👻👻👻 but my best working most long lasting rps have been filled with "sorry i've been sick as a dog would you still love me if i got back to you in 2 months" and "can we rework this idea so we can both do what we want to do" ooc messages and a lot of patience and communication
